Bono And Edge Enjoy Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds Concert In Dublin

Rock royalty descended on the capital this week as Noel Gallagher and his High Flying Birds took to the stage at Dublin's 3arena.

The Oasis legend packed the house on Wednesday night, but it wasn't only Britpop fans who were on hand to welcome Gallagher back to his ancestral homeland.

Fellow rock stars Bono, the Edge and their pal Guggi were also spotted among the revellers.

The U2 lads were seen enjoying the gig as Gallagher blasted out new tunes and Oasis classics.

Noel, whose parents were born in Ireland, was spotted out and about in town after the gig with The Edge. The pair were seen at new hotspot Sophie's, located in the swanky Dean Hotel.

The guitarists reportedly spent hours chatting in a private cornered off section of the trendy bar and restaurant.

It was the second night of Gallagher's UK and Ireland tour promoting his second High Flying Birds album Chasing Yesterday.

But despite the controversy Bono's best pal Guggi says the show was "fantastic".

"I really enjoyed it. It's the first time that I have seen him since he went solo," he told the Herald.

Noel Gallagher Competing With Bono And Chris Martin To Write ‘Greatest Song Ever’

Rock star Noel Gallagher has revealed how he is vying with Bono and Chris Martin to write the greatest song of all time.

He opened up about his friendship with the Irish singer in a new Rolling Stone interview and disclosed how he has dubbed him, Father Bono.

The Oasis legend, who has just released his latest album, said he loves socialising with the U2 frontman.

He said: “Of all the people I know, he’s the most fun to hang out with, for sure. He’s a funny fucker, and he can drink.”

He also revealed he is in competition with the U2 frontman and Chris Martin to pen the ultimate song.

“I still think tomorrow might be the day that I write the greatest song of all time. It’s like going fishing.

“The guitar is your fishing rod, and if I’m not fishing for that song, Bono will get it, and if he’s not, Chris Martin will.

“And fuck those two guys, because they’ve got enough. We’re all fishing in the same river, and its cut throat”, he told the music bible.

He is amazed at the interest the U2 frontman takes in the making of his albums for his new band, the High Flying Birds.

“He’s got big ideas — for his band and for my music as well, which is astonishing. He’s always giving me titles for songs and albums. I call him Father Bono.”

The outspoken British singer said he liked U2’s new album but named Joshua Tree as one of his favourite albums of all time.

“I like (Songs of Innocence).

“Some of the greatest moments of my musical life have involved U2. Anybody who doesn’t like The Joshua Tree is a c****ucker, for a start.

“And anybody who went to see the Zoo TV tour and didn’t think it was the greatest of all time at that time is also an idiot.”

He doesn’t have the same praise for Ed Sheeran who walked off with the gong for album of the year at the Brit awards.

But he explained a recent comment, stating he didn’t want to live in a world where Ed Sheeran was headlining Wembley Stadium, had been said in good humour.

“He’s all right, Ed. He took it with good humour which is how it was meant.

“I was bemoaning the fact the biggest rock bands in England can’t even sell out Wembley, and yet pop music can. Modern pop music is bland nonsense. There isn’t even a word yet that’s capable of describing it. If it was a colour, it would be beige.”

He also likes superstar band One Direction but he doesn’t understand why they collaborate with songwriters for the hits on their albums.

“I know Harry Styles. We’ve hung out a couple of times. They’re lovely lads.

“But I’ve got to say, I have difficulties with people who don’t write their own songs, who’ve got a team of songwriters who work for your record label.”

Noel Gallagher On His Bromance With Bono

Singer Noel Gallagher has opened up about his bromance with Bono.

The U2 frontman and the Oasis singer have been friends for years, and Noel has revealed the pair love to get drunk together.

“What do we do? We get roaring drunk,” Noel admitted.

“I was on holiday with him this summer down in France, we hung out in a Casino. I won €2,000 but then we went to a nightclub he knew and a round was like €4,000.

“His house was enormous, and so it should be,” he added.

Speaking to Brendan O’Connor on The Saturday Night Show, Noel admitted he and his wife spent a week with Bono and wife Ali and partied the entire time.

“My wife and I were there for five nights, she can only remember going to bed one of the nights. We had a lot of tequila,” he explained.

“I party with my wife most of the time, I don’t really do crazy lads night out. My favourite person to hang out with, sadly enough is my wife,” he added.

Noel Gallagher On Bono, Kanye West, Beck, Taylor Swift And One Direction

Taylor Swift's parents are the only ones who think she's a good songwriter, according to Noel Gallagher.

The former Oasis star is one of the most outspoken people in the music industry and has taken potshots at some of the biggest pop stars around in a new interview.

He slams the genre for being "f**king awful" and "bland nonsense", claiming if it was a colour it would be beige. And he's also not a fan of Taylor.

"Who says that? Her parents?" he told Rolling Stone magazine, after the interviewer commented that people believe the 25-year-old singer is a talented songwriter. "Name those people. That's bulls**t. You're f**king lying. She seems like a nice girl, but no one has ever said those words, and you know it."

Next in the firing line were British boyband One Direction. They are one of the biggest groups in the world at the moment, but Noel just finds that depressing.

"I know Harry Styles. We've hung out a couple of times. They're lovely lads. But I've got to say, I have difficulties with people who don't write their own songs, who've got a team of songwriters who work for your record label," he said, after which he was reminded that many Motown stars operated in this way too.

"If you're trying to insinuate that what's going on now is akin to what was going on at Motown - what, were you out late eating magic mushrooms? Not equivalent. Not in the slightest."

It wasn't all doom and gloom though, with the star also discussing some people he admires. Top of the list is Irish rocker Bono, who often gets a hard time as he's seen as a bit worthy. This isn't Noel's experience though, and he even has a nickname for the U2 musician.

"Of all the people I know, he's the most fun to hang out with, for sure. He's a funny f**ker, and he can drink. And he's got big ideas - for his band and for my music as well, which is astonishing. He's always giving me titles for songs and albums. I call him Father Bono," he said.

Everyone has an opinion on Kanye West at the moment, and unsurprisingly Noel was happy to air his. Kanye has just apologised for claiming Beck didn't deserve his best album Grammy this year, and Noel appears to back that.

"He's a character, I'll give him that. And I love his track Black Skinhead. But somebody needs to buy that dumbass a dictionary so he can look up the word 'artistry'. Beck can play the banjo, for f**k's sake. Nobody plays the banjo!" he laughed.

Noel Gallagher On Touring, Oasis And Making His New Album With A Huge Hangover

Noel Gallagher on...

Johnny Marr: "He's a competent guitarist and I'm sure he has a bright future ahead of him."

Ed Sheeran: "He runs around all over the stage when he's playing, on podiums, everywhere. Far too much like hard work. But then he is very young."

U2: "I nearly melted Bono's face when I told him I have all the songs written for my albums before I go into the studio. U2 go in without a single note, and have meetings for six months before writing anything."

Paul Weller: "If Oasis ever got back together, he would put my windows in. It's highly unlikely anyway, but he's dead against it."

His hair: "While I've still got this haircut, I'll be making music. The barnet sort of dictates that I carry on."

Noel Gallagher On Bono, "Tax Dodgers" Arctic Monkeys And How He'd Love To Work With Damon Albarn

Noel Gallagher Shocked Bono By Producing His Own Album

Noel Gallagher claims Bono was stunned to learn he had produced his latest album himself.

Bono's face "nearly melted" when Noel Gallagher told him he'd produced his own album.

The 47-year-old singer left the U2 frontman shocked when he revealed he had taken matters into his own hands on his second Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds studio album, 'Chasing Yesterday', and he doesn't think the 54-year-old star's group would ever dream of doing something similar.

He said: "I told Bono this one afternoon, and his face nearly melted. Cos U2 take five years and six producers before they work out what their album even means."

Noel took the reins of his album when producer Dave Sardy was unavailable and the former Oasis star - who regularly clashed with his brother Liam Gallagher during his times in the indie group - enjoyed having creative control of the record.

He added to Q magazine: "I refused to over-think it. I understand making records by committee when there's five lads in a band.

"But I'm a solo artist on my own record label.

"So I said, 'I won't take any discussion about this. We will go in and record the album and then let the people decide whether it's good enough.' "

Noel Gallagher Says No One's Actually Said If U2's Album Is A Sh*t Record Or A Great Record

Noel Gallagher has been speaking to Q Magazine about U2's album 'Songs Of Innocence' that was automatically downloaded into people's iTunes for free last year.

He said "No one's actually said the U2 album is a shit record or a great record. All they've talked about is the delivery. I think it's one of their better albums, and Every Breaking Wave - what a tune. But the way it was delivered is not something I'd ever do. For me albums are all about the anticipation. Personally, I don't want to live in a world where, 'Bang! There it is. Done.'"

He added "Me and Bono have talked about this endlessly and agreed to disagree. I don't agree with free music. I'd be quite happy to put an extra pound on my new album. U2 can turn around now and say that 750 million people or whatever it is - have their new album. But I would rather 750 people had my album in their hearts. To me that's fundamentally more important."

Q Magazine goes on sale on Tuesday.

Noel Gallagher On Being A Frontman And Playing With U2, David Bowie, Paul McCartney, Coldplay And More

Taken from a interview with Dutch magazine 'OOR' that is on sale now, thanks to General Dread for the translation.

If you live outside the Netherlands you can buy the magazine from here.

Interviewer: Frontman or second fiddle?

Noel: Second man. All day. When the first High Flying Bird record was released, it was the first thing I was anxious of: me, in the spotlights, the one person that carries all the weight. Playing guitar all night, it’s all I know. Singing the whole night: that's pushing it. But standing in the spotlight that’s not where I feel comfortable. I knew that back then I know it now. I eased my mind by thinking, oh well, we’ll play some theatres and maybe some bigger venues, that will be manageable. But no, the thing grew and grew and in the end I was playing in a full 02 arena. Totally unexpected. Great of course that the tunes we’re liked, but it was never my intention. It’s the only thing that I'm not looking forward to now that I’ll be starting with chapter two: I know how big it could get and I just like being in the centre of the stage. I dare to say that I've grown accustomed to it, I know exactly what to do. But if it was an option I’d put a step to the side right now for a great frontman.

Interviewer: Name a frontman with who you’d feel comfortable?

Noel: Bono, U2. They already have The Edge but I wouldn't have a problem with playing second guitar for them. I’d fit right in. As long as you don’t pass him by. And there are others: David Bowie, even though he works so little that I wouldn't make anything of it. Neil Young, if a positions frees up in Crazy Horse he should call me. Bob Dylan. Paul McCartney. You know, I’d even dare to say Coldplay if I’d only have to play guitar.

Interviewer: Sometimes solutions are closer than you’d think…

Noel: From your view maybe. I see it more likely that I’d play with Coldplay or U2 then any other comparable band.

U2’s Bono On Noel Gallagher's New Album 'Chasing Yesterday'

U2’s frontman Bono posted a lengthy and forthright note on the band’s website, which he titled 'A Little Book of a Big Year: Bono’s A to Z of 2014.'

He said this about 'Chasing Yesterday' that is released in March "I've heard his new album, this is one of the truly great British songsters. But of course like a lot of them he's Irish. Ha".

Noel Gallagher On Why He Doesn't Put "100 Percent" Effort Into His Records Or Live Shows

Noel Gallagher says he doesn't ever put "100 percent" effort into his records or live shows because he has to save some energy back.

Noel Gallagher "didn't put that much effort" into his new album.

The 47-year-old rocker recently completed his album 'Chasing Yesterday' - which comes out next March - but claims he only put about "75 percent" of his total effort into the LP because he got distracted.

He said: "This time I did the record in London, I mean crikey it's difficult to focus and make it. I didn't put that much effort into the album, I can only give it 75 percent at one time.

"People say, 'I gave it 100 percent,', and I'm always only giving it 75 percent. People ask me, 'Why do you say that?' And I say I have to keep a bit for the after show. I can't be leaving it all on stage."

The former Oasis star also revealed he and his wife Sara MacDonald's sons Donovan, seven, and Sonny, four, prefer to listen to U2 rather than his.

Speaking on 'The Christian O'Connell Breakfast Show' on Absolute Radio, the 'In the Heat of the Moment' singer explained: "Donovan and Sonny are massive U2 fans. It's a recent thing ... Donovan is a very good friend of Bono. It's a long story. But when that album came out with all the furore surrounding it, Donovan said, 'Lend me your iPod. Let me run my ears over this album.'

"And he's become a super-fan. Him and his mate Bono are having a bit of a loving across the ocean. It's fun to watch. I actually thought that I would be the one to turn him on to stuff like that but it's like he's bored of me now."

Noel Gallagher And U2's Bono Head For The Same London Nightspot

It seems to be a popular venue for the A-list in London currently – and celebrity rockers Noel Gallagher, 46, and Bono, 53, are the latest in a string of stars to spend the night at The Firehouse.

The pair were spotted arriving, albeit separately, at the exclusive nightspot on Friday evening – with Bono bringing his wife Ali Hewson.

Noel looked cool, calm and collected as he arrived in a faux leather jacket and jeans, with a casual polo top beneath.

Not blinking an eye at the sea of flashbulbs he approached, the Don’t Look Back In Anger rocker nearly smiled as he cut his way through the crowds to the main entrance.

Noel Gallagher's Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere (Vol.2) Part Sixty Seven

From Noel Gallagher's 'Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere' tour diary.

So . . . now then . . . yes comrades!!

I've been having so much fun that I've forgotten to send one of these things for ages. Sorry 'bout that but you know how it is (or maybe you don't?)!

Anyway let's see what I can remember eh? So, if my memory serves me correct I was in Stuttgart, in Germany, with a dirty little cold worrying over whether to pull the following night’s gig or not? Is that right? You tell me? I think so. Got dosed up on hot whiskey and Lemsip (the blackcurrant ones!) and sleeping tablets (to be taken responsibly young 'uns . . . just saying). Woke up the next afternoon in a very damp bed, freezing cold. It did the trick though. Felt well enough to get up and get down (so to speak!) and lo and behold the gig was fucking mega! The wiggers had done the trick!! Onwards to Hamburg feeling much better. Another day on the hot wiggers and Lemsip and ANOTHER top show! Who'd’ve thought? Not me that's for sure.

Think we had three gigs in a row which is unusual (for me anyway) and the next one was a big one . . . that Isle of Wight Festival. Reports on the news made it sound like some kind of recreation of a 1st World War battlefield. Now, I've never been to the Isle of Wight, so I was looking forward to it very much. Woke up in the New Forest and yes!!! The sun was out! It was actually sunny!! So much so that me and Nancy went for a lovely little middle-class walk amongst the flowers and the bushes and the trees and the horses . . . actually that might have been the day after . . . not sure, but I do remember walking amongst the flowers and the bushes and the trees and the horses.

You have to get a ferry to the Isle of Wight and I'll tell you something comrades, it was most pleasant. We even went up on deck and took photos . . . of what I'm not quite sure but photos were taken all the same. We had ANOTHER great show . . . the third great show in a row, which is unusual (for me anyway). This drinking whiskey malarkey is fucking MEGA!! Great crowd although some young 'uns did get a bit excited and lighted up a few flares and one did get lobbed on stage but no damage done and it added a bit of chaos to the proceedings which is no bad thing. That fella "the Boss" approved 'cause he was watching from the side of the stage and was laughing his little head off!!

So then we had a day off in the New Forest. The hangover wasn't too bad. More than manageable. Flew into the great city of Dublin that night for a gig the next day with them Red Hot Chilli Peppers and guess what? ANOTHER GREAT SHOW!!! That must be some kind of record? It must be. I can't ever remember doing 4 GREAT gigs in a row? Considering 5 days prior to that I was gonna call the doctor out for I sick-note, I'm pretty fucking impressed!!!

The singer from that band U2 came to see us with that fella Danger Mouse. It was great to see 'em. We had to leg it early though, back to London for an all too brief visit to see Bunny Dread and the Mighty I . . . that was yesterday . . . and today I'm in the very wet city of Oslo in Norway.

And that comrades . . . is that! You can consider yourself up to speed.

No doubt tonight's gig will be shite.

I will let you know.

ONWARDS.

GD.

Liam Gallagher Admits Roger Daltory Gave Him The Best Career Advice And Bono Gave Him The Worst

Liam Gallagher has said in an interview that The Who frontman Roger Daltery gave him the best career advice.

In an interview for the new edition of Q, he explained: “I remember having a chat with Roger Daltery. He was going, "Oh you should warm up (your voice)." And I'm like "f*ck that!" I was young and I was like. "I'm not doing any of that nonsense" But you know as the years go by. I've had to bite my tongue a bit and go, "Yeah you've got to warm up." But I don't do any of that la-la-la nonsense. I just sit with a guitar half a hour before you go on. It's just like getting your dick cut off when you've got a fu*king cancel a gig cause your voice goes. It's like the heaviest thing in the world. But warm up man. That's the best bit of advice I've ever had."

In the same interview, the Beady Eye frontman said that U2's frontman Bono had given him the worst piece of career advice.

He said "Warm up (laughs) Bono might have tried to give me advice, but I was probably not listening. I do my own thing man!"

U2 Pay Tribute To Oasis At Wembley Stadium

It's tricky not to drop names when you've been to a U2 gig in an enclosure for the bands' pals.

Noel Gallagher, Richard Curtis, Roman Abramovich, Will Champion from Coldplay, Brian Eno and Lars Ulrich from Metallica stood shoulder to shoulder at the 360 Tour's opening night at Wembley - with a Scotsman from The Sun in the middle.

U2 proved they are the best stadium act in the world last night with a note-perfect performance.

Bono paid tribute to Oasis with a few lines of Acquiesce which was greeted with rapturous applause.

Other highlights included Elevation, City Of Blinding Lights, Walk On, Streets Have No Name and the climax, With Or Without You.
