Noel Gallagher
Oasis
There's a lot that can be said about the sound and gear of Noel Gallagher. From Oasis through his work with his High Flying Birds — who announced a new album, Who Built the Moon?, this morning — Noel's music has provided the backdrop to a generation of rock fans, all propelled by an always evolving collection of guitars, amps, and studio pieces.
Next week, the statesman of British tone is teaming up with MJQ Ltd. to bring The Noel Gallagher Collection to the pages of Reverb. MJQ Ltd. is the same London-based studio equipment brokerage firm that helped secure $1.8mm for the EMI TG 1234 MKIV console used on Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon" through Bonhams Auction House.
This sale will include amps and other pieces direct from Noel's personal collection used at different points of his recording and touring career.
"When you’ve been playing as long as I have, you tend to amass a huge amount of gear, and it’s not doing me or anyone else any good if it’s just sitting around," Gallagher told us. "These pieces have a lot history, but they’re still very playable — I’d love to get them into the hands of someone who will put them to good use."
It's an impressive showing with scores of VOX, Fender, HiWatt, Orange, and Marshall amps taking center stage. There are rare vintage tape echo units and one-off prototypes like an Orange Custom Shop NG140 built specifically for Gallagher by noted amp guru Adrian Emsley.
Other highlights from the collection include:
A 1960s Epiphone Professional guitar and amp set played by Gallagher on tour and in the studio.
A Vox Foundation bass head an Supreme cabinet that comes with a printed setlist from the Oasis rehearsal held just prior to the band’s last unofficial gig.
A Laney Top Mount Supergroup Head with 4x12 Bass 100 Cabinet used predominantly in the studio by Gallagher. These under-the-radar vintage Laney amplifiers from the late-'60s and early-'70s are best known for fueling Black Sabbath’s sound.
A late-1990s Mellotron Mk VI — an instrument that Oasis used all over their recordings. Gallagher has owned several and this one comes from that studio collection.
An Orange OR120 Overdrive with 4x12 and Head that was used on tour with Oasis.
And that's just a small sample of the over 50 items included in this sale.
The Noel Gallagher Collection is set to go live on October 2nd.

Bono
Noel Gallagher
U2
Noel Gallagher had lunch with Irish President Michael Higgins while he was still nursing a hangover.
The 50-year-old star was on tour with rock icons U2 in July when Bono, the band's lead vocalist, arranged for Noel to meet with the Irish politician in Dublin straight after a heavy night of boozing.
Recalling one of the more surreal incidents during The Joshua Tree Tour, Noel said: "We do the gig in Dublin and we go the after show. I'm staying at his house and we leave at half five in the morning.
"The next thing I remember is my phone going and I'm in this place I don't know. It's him on the phone, and he says 'Oh you're alive, where are you?' and I was like, 'Well I'm supposed to be in your house, but I don't recognise, where am I?' I was in a guest house at the bottom of his garden right.
"So he says, 'Oh you're alive anyway, come on, everybody's here waiting for you' and I was kind of going 'What for?' He said, 'For the lunch I'm throwing in your honour, there's 75 guests have arrived'."
The former Oasis star admitted he wasn't in a fit state to attend the bash, which was also attended by the Irish President.
What's more, Noel couldn't believe how relentless the fun-loving band, and Bono in particular, were in their partying ways throughout their tour.
Speaking to Christian O'Connell on the Absolute Radio Breakfast Show, Noel recalled: "I said 'I've only just got out of bed'. He said 'Look the President of Ireland's just arrived and you're sitting next to him, so hurry up'. So I had to get showered, get up there 'whey, ey' and all that.
"The lunch started at three. Do you know what time it finished? Ten past four in the morning."
Noel also admitted Bono is more resilient to the effects of alcohol these days, despite being seven years older than he is.
Remembering another of their shows in Paris that followed a boozy night out, he said: "I'm sweating pure lager, and he gets up and sings like a 24 year old."

Conor McGregor
Floyd Mayweather
Noel Gallagher
Oasis
Conor McGregor has added former Oasis star Noel Gallagher to his lengthy list of admirers.
The Irishman's stock has risen astronomically since his cross-code bout with boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather, which has helped him gain fans across the globe.
McGregor's garish costumes and trash talking only served to add to the hype of the mega-bout — and even became a sideshow in itself.
And Gallagher, a devout Manchester City fan, is the latest star to reveal his love for the UFC megastar.
'The trash talking, oh I love him,' Gallagher said on Absolute Radio on Monday morning.
'He's a dude. An absolute dude. He makes me cry laughing when he's going on about Floyd Mayweather's baldy little head.
'Charisma will get you a long way. If you're talented and you've got charisma, the world is your oyster — and that guy has got it.
'It's like "wow, what planet have you come from?" — he's unbelievable. I'd love to meet him.'
McGregor displayed charisma in abundance during the build up to the fight but was eventually bested by one of the greatest boxers the sport has ever seen.
The 29-year-old has not ruled out a return to the ring, but coach John Kavanagh has said his next appearance is more likely to be in the octagon.
Should he return to the UFC, a mouthwatering trilogy against Nate Diaz next year would be the preferred option — with UFC chief Dana White shooting down reports of a December fight.

Sara Gallagher
Noel Gallagher has praised Morrissey as ‘the funniest guy ever’ – after the pair shared a night out together and The Smiths legend took a shine to his wife.
Today saw Gallagher announce his return with his upcoming new High Flying Birds Album ‘Who Built The Moon?’, along with details of a huge UK and Ireland arena tour. To mark the occasion, the Oasis turned solo star gave an interview with Christian O’Connell on the Absolute Radio Breakfast Show this morning – where he revealed details of his evening with Moz and wife Sara MacDonald.
“I love that guy, he’s unbelievable,” said Gallagher. “I had a night out with him a few years back in LA, and he was just, he kills me, he was just the funniest guy ever.
“I bumped into him in a hotel and me and Sara were out one night. We were sat in a different bar, and I went to the toilet. And I said ‘Oh can I get my wife to come and meet you?’ He went ‘Oh I don’t know, is she nice?’ And I said ‘Yeah, she’s gorgeous’.
“She came and he kind of looked at her and he went ‘ooh’. I was like ‘Wow, what a dude’. Yeah he’s unbelievable, funny.”

And it's a very different record - more experimental more loop based and a long way from Oasis - as he tells Matt Everitt.

Who Built The Moon? has vocalists and guest musicians from around the world appearing across the 11 tracks, which were recorded in Belfast and London. Influences include French psychedelic pop, classic electro, soul, rock, disco and dance.
Gallagher has written the album entirely in the studio for the first time, and there are contributions from Paul Weller (who plays organ on Holy Mountain) and Johnny Marr (taking guitar and harmonica on If Love Is The Law).
The track The Man Who Built The Moon demonstrates some of the working methods, Gallagher and Holmes employed, as Noel reveals: “We took a keyboard riff we liked from an unused track and added chords. A year later we came to deal with it as a song and when we got to the chorus, David kept asking me to write a new one…. again and again and again.
“I was ready to strangle him. The one that you hear is the eighth attempt and, you know what? The annoying thing is he was right.”
Holy Mountain was kick-started by an obscure sample as Noel explains: “David played me the sample, so I worked out the chords and we demoed just a few, short minutes of it, taking it away on tour and playing with it.
“When it became a song back in Belfast it was so joyous, I just had to do it justice. What’s more joyous than being in love, baby? So, I wrote a song about love and it’s one of the best things that I’ve ever done.”

Tom Ogden
Blossoms were in their element after they met both Noel and Liam Gallagher.
But the lads made sure not to tell the feuding brothers they had talked to the other! Frontman Tom Ogden told me that speaking to Liam at Leeds Festival was not just something to tick off the bucket list, as it resulted in the Oasis legend offering to work with the band.
“He told me to write a tune for him and he was up for singing anything,” Tom said.
“He joked that he ‘could polish a turd!’ I’m gonna do it, I’d be mad not to.”
A couple of weeks later, the band found themselves in a dressing room with Noel at the We Are Manchester show on for the official reopening of Manchester Arena after the terror attack in May.
Rick Astley and Pep Guardiola, the Manchester City manager were there,” Tom says.
“That was insane. Noel’s a City fan so he invited Pep over and he was like: ‘Come to my dressing room.’”
Drummer Joe Donovan added: “We didn’t tell the Gallaghers about each other. We can retire happy now we’ve met our heroes.
“If I was the person to get them back together that would be amazing!”
