Noel Gallagher And Damon Albarn To Play Together This Weekend?

Noel Gallagher and Damon Albarn are at it again. No, not falling out – making music together.

The pair put aside their Britpop rivalry two years ago and made music history by joining together on stage for charity.

And fans who thought such a miracle was just a one-off could not be more wrong.

I’m told that the Oasis and Blur pair are teaming up again this weekend for a special performance at one of 2015’s biggest rock ’n’ roll parties. Damon has invited Noel to join him on stage for Clash bassist Paul Simon's 60th birthday bash.

You can only imagine how that is going to end once they’ve hit the free bar.

A music insider said: “Damon and Noel get on really well these days and have put all their differences behind them. Noel loves playing no matter where it is and it was an easy yes when Damon asked if he wanted to play guitar with him this weekend. There’s a whole load of rock stars invited, so no doubt a bunch of the other guests will end up on stage, too.” Noel and Damon were arch enemies back in the Nineties when Oasis and Blur went head to head in the charts.

But they performed together for the first time at a gig for the Teenage Cancer Trust in 2013 alongside Graham Coxen and Paul Weller.

And I told this summer how the pair are even planning to get into the studio for a joint session.

It’s no fun when everyone gets on together.

Damon Albarn Says Noel Gallagher Is 'Hilarious'

Damon Albarn has quashed the BritPop rivalry between Oasis and Blur by admitting he hangs out with Noel Gallagher and thinks he's "hilarious".

The blur frontman had a vicious rivalry with the Oasis rocker and his bandmates during the 1990s but relations between the pair have now thawed and they now enjoy spending time with each other.

Asked if they hang out, he said: "Yeah, occasionally. I always enjoy his company. He's hilarious."

Gallagher Brothers' Relationship 'Was Achilles Heel For Oasis'

Cast away on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs, Noel Gallagher is to reveal the secret of his relationship with his brother, Liam, and to mount a sturdy defence of the 1990s, the era of BritPop and New Labour.

He will also comment on his use of drugs and on his status as a songwriter, explaining ruefully: “Put it this way, I am not as revered by the press as Thom Yorke or Damon Albarn. That is just a fact.”
Assessing the impact of Oasis, the band he set up with his brother, he says: “On our day we were great. People are there now at my concerts that weren’t even born then and they are crying at Oasis songs. All all over the world people are still in massively in love with that band – and none more so than me.”

On the subject of the rows with Liam that eventually caused the breakup of the band, Gallagher, 48, explains: “The way it worked was, when were not slagging each other off, that’s when were telling each other that we loved each other. That’s it. Clearly there was a point where he was the greatest singer in the world and it was great. It just so happens that the two of us we like to call a spade a spade. But it was very sarcastic mud-slinging.”

Gallagher tells presenter Kirsty Young that the pair had got on well as children in Burnage, Manchester. “He was an irritant though, because we shared a bedroom. When you are 10 and your brother is five it is a lifetime away and so I never hung out with any of his friends, but, yeah, we got on.” In the band, their sibling status was a mixed blessing, he adds. “You can gain some strength from being in a band with your brother when everyone else is a stranger, but as time goes on it becomes your achilles heel because you know how to push each other’s buttons.”

Gallagher, who has played solo and with his band High Flying Birds since 2009, confesses that in 1998 he realised the last three Oasis albums had all been created “on drugs”. “Not all of Oasis were on drugs though. Just effectively me and Liam,” he says. A move out to the country was followed by “a moment of clarity” when he found a stranger in his kitchen the morning after a party and decided to give up drugs.

“I have good willpower. It was one of the greatest things I have ever done,” he says, explaining he met his second wife, Sarah MacDonald, shortly after this.

Choosing the music of many of his heroes, such as David Bowie and the Smiths, to take to the desert island, Gallagher says he still regards the Beatles as “the greatest thing in music that ever was”.
Contrasting his heyday in the 1990s with the “gloomy, dark, fractured times” of the 70s and 80s, before the arrival of the “modern man”, Gallagher tells Young that people “have to admit” the Britpop era was great.

“What people are refusing to accept is that the 90s were brilliant. Think about that time, with Thatcher being ushered out and New Labour coming in. And Oasis, Blur and Pulp all those bands in the top five all the time. They were great days.”

He selects Jack Kerouac’s On the Road as his Desert Island Book, explaining it is the only book he has ever read..

Alex James Hopes Oasis Get Back Together So They Can Support Blur

Blur's Alex James has spoken about the band’s rivalry with Oasis in a new interview, suggesting that the former adversaries could play a gig together in the future.

Last month, Liam Gallagher named Blur's 'Lonesome Street' the "song of the year". Now, Blur’s bassist has said that Damon Albarn and Noel are "quite good friends", adding that he hopes the Gallaghers reunite and tour.

Speaking about the thawing in the two bands' relationship, James said: "Liam's come out and said ‘Lonesome Street’ is his favourite song of the year, God bless him. And Damon and Noel are quite good friends now. So, I think, let's focus on the positives. It's lovely that it's got a happy ending. I hope they get back together. They can support us."

Noel Gallagher On Being The Last True Rock Star And More

On Friday, Noel Gallagher was the latest musician to take plunge and participate in a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything). The outspoken Oasis guitarist delivered with a number of spectacular quotes, including a declaration regarding his place within rock and roll’s hierarchy.

Asked how he feels being “one of the last true rock stars,” Gallagher responded, “It feels good to be one of the last rockstars,” adding, “In fact, that’s what I am.”

In a related question, Gallagher was asked whether a rock band in 2015 can reach the popularity of Oasis, to which he replied, “I think that the days of a rock band explodin’ out of a council estate in the north of England and going on to connect with so many people in so many countries around the world… I think the chances of that happenin’ again are very, very slim.” But he added, “We live in a world of hope.”

He also believes “rock n’ roll has turned into – or been turned into – a thing that is now referred to as ‘modern rock,'” adding, “I just think that the attitude, and the spirit, that we had is definitely disappearing.”

Elsewhere in the AMA, Gallagher declared Oasis’ third studio album Be Here Now “shit .. And I’m allowed to say that because I fucking wrote it.” Despite that, there will be a reissue of Be Here Now in the near future, which will include “The Mustique Demos.”

As for an Oasis reunion, while Gallagher didn’t address it specifically, it definitely seems like it won’t be happening anytime soon. Gallagher told fans he expects to tour with the High Flying Birds well into 2016.

Also unlikely is a collaboration album with Damon Albarn. Despite previously suggesting a joint album was a realistic possibility, Gallagher isn’t so sure now. “The thing with Damon was a flippant comment as casually thrown around as ‘We should go for a drink.’ As for makin’ an album, I would be amazed if either of us ever had the time to make that work.”

Noel Gallagher On Alex Turner, Damon Albarn And Bastille

Noel Gallagher has reiterated that he finds Alex Turner boring and said that nobody he criticises should take offence as he never makes things personal.

Gallagher recently stated that he would "rather drink petrol from the nozzle" than listen to the Arctic Monkeys frontman give another interview. Speaking in the new issue of NME, which is on newsstands now and available digitally, Noel explains his thinking about the outspoken comments he makes about other musicians.

"What is there to be offended about?, Gallagher said. "I never say anything about their persona. I don't diss anybody’s character. Alex Turner wouldn't be offended by that, why should he be? I guess he could be by the headlines, because they’re like 'Noel Calls Queen A Cunt', but I was just talking about rock star interviews in general. Alex is a fucking top dude in a fucking top band, and a very attractive man. His interviews, on the other hand, are lacklustre."

"It’s even worse for solo artists," he argued. "But if someone says fucking 'Noel Gallagher's shit', they're not saying I'm shit, they're saying my music's shit. And you can't be a fan of everybody’s music, can you? I stand by everything I've ever said. Apart from Damon [in 1995, Noel said he hoped the Blur singer and bandmate Alex James would 'catch Aids and die']. I'd have found that offensive."

"I find it odd when bands say 'it's such an honour to be a bunch of cunts'. I read something in a magazine where a guy from Bastille said that it was such a fantastic honour that I'd said in an interview that in the '90s I would've taken him out after one interview. I just thought, 'You fucking dick'.”

Noel Gallagher On Oasis, Liam, Blur, Mick Jagger, Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian And More

Noel Gallagher is putting his past behind him, releasing a new solo album, ruling out a reunion with his brother Liam and even being nice about one-time arch-rivals Blur.

Oasis split five years ago after nearly two decades of fractious sibling rivalry between guitarist Noel and his younger brother Liam, the band’s frontman.

“I haven’t seen him for about five months but we text quite a lot. It’s usually him insulting me,” laughs Gallagher, during an interview with AFP in London.

Liam’s post-Oasis band Beady Eye recently broke up as well but he is quick to dismiss any suggestion of a reunion with his 42-year-old brother. “The answer is no,” he says.

His new album “Chasing Yesterday”, his second since the band split, is released on March 2 and features his signature combination of layered guitars and elliptical lyrics.

The star is full of enthusiasm for the life of a solo artist, perhaps recalling the arguments and dramas which accompanied Oasis’s global success, selling 60 million albums and scoring hits like “Wonderwall” and “Don’t Look Back In Anger”.

“It’s more rewarding, it’s more fulfilling. I like being in charge of everything,” he says. “I just write songs and I collect the songs together and I make an album out of them.”

Best singers are ‘wild animals’

Gallagher is now a 47-year-old family man with three children who is more likely to be found watching his beloved Manchester City than indulging a rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle.

His legendary bile towards musicians whose work he does not rate has not diminished with age.

“Beyonce, not for me. My wife loves her but she’s got no taste. Katy Perry? Even my daughter hates her and she’s 15. Sam Smith? Not for me,” he says.

“Traditional rock stars are like wild animals Mick Jagger or my brother,” he adds.

“They don’t give a fuck. Modern rock stars, Alex Turner (of Arctic Monkeys) or Serge from Kasabian, they do give a fuck, they care about their hair style, they care about what they think.”

He is more forgiving towards Oasis’s old Britpop rivals Blur, who this month announced their first new album in 12 years, “The Magic Whip”.

“I think it will probably be very good if it in any way represents what Damon (Albarn, Blur’s frontman) has been doing recently,” Gallagher says.

“Old groups are great but what really lets old groups down, they don’t fucking write good songs any more.”

He does not even rule out working with Albarn in future.

“I would like to. We’re both gonna be busy boys for the next couple of years. But you never know,” he says.

Gary Barlow: Take That And Robbie Williams Chart Battle Is Like Blur And Oasis

Gary Barlow has joked Take That's current chart battle with Robbie Williams is similar to the feud between Britpop bands Oasis and Blur.

The 43-year-old singer-songwriter has spoken out following the news his band Take That's first album since the departure of both Jason Orange and previously Robbie, 'III', will go up against their bandmates surprise new record 'Under the Radar'.

Referring to the famous Britpop battle between Damon Albarn's Blur and Liam and Noel Gallagher's Oasis, Gary said: ''It's like Blur versus Oasis all over again.''

However, the former 'X Factor' judge revealed Robbie - who first left Take That in 1995 before rejoining in 2010 and quitting again in 2012 - had told him and his remaining bandmates Mark Owen and Howard Donald about his new album, but failed to mention it would be released on the same day as theirs.

Gary told The Sun newspaper: ''I only found out about that on Sunday (30.11.14).

''It's funny, because we have obviously spent a lot of time in the studio with Rob.

''About two years ago he said, 'I've got all these songs and I don't know what to do with them so I'm going to put them on an album one day'.

''So it's not a surprise he's doing it, but it is a surprise it's out this week.

''He played us most of them and there are some cracking songs because whatever Rob writes is good.''

Meanwhile, the 'These Days' hitmaker claims both Robbie and Jason will be returning to the band in the future.

He said: ''Take That is five people. Exactly when they come back is up to them. That will keep it interesting.''

Russell Brand To Record Oasis' 'Roll With It' With Noel Gallagher

Russell Brand has said he will record an Oasis song in response to people who have been likening his recent rants to Blur's Parklife lyrics.

The comedian's tweets containing his thoughts on society have been bombarded by users writing simply "Parklife".

Brand claimed he was not offended by the tweets, but said he was planning to team up with Noel Gallagher to record a version of the Oasis hit Roll With It.

Oasis were famously Blur's chart rivals and had a high-profile battle to top the charts 19 years ago.

In an interview with radio station Magic, Brand said: "I'm a comedian, and I make all my living out of mucking around and talking, and I've certainly tormented people in the past. So yeah, I don't mind that, I think - unless it's malicious."

He pointed out that his sidekick from his old Radio 2 show, Matt Morgan, had similarly said "Parklife" many years ago when he launched into a rant.

Brand went on: "I don't know Damon Albarn particularly, but I've spoken to Noel Gallagher and we plan to respond with a Roll With It single. I'll say 'Roll with it' after every seven words."

The Parklife trend started after the star tweeted: "This attitude of churlish indifference seems like nerdish deference contrasted with the belligerent antipathy of the indigenous farm folk, who regard the hippie-dippie interlopers, the denizens of the shimmering *** temples, as one fey step away from transvestites."

Journalist Dan Barker's response prompted thousands of tweets: "Russell Brand's writing feels like someone is about to shout 'PARKLIFE!' at the end of every sentence."

Blur's song famously features lyrics about getting woken up by dustmen and feeding the pigeons.

Brand said his old pal Gallagher would not be attending his live show at the Royal Albert Hall in London next week.

"I've not invited him, because he's not been supportive enough lately, " he said.

"If he's seen anywhere near the vicinity, I'm going to have someone grab him by the eyebrow, tie a kite to it, and send him off into the ether."

Damon Albarn Says Blur's 'Country House' And Oasis' 'Roll With It' Were 'Both Shit'

Damon Albarn has revealed he thinks that Blur's 'Country House' and Oasis' 'Roll With It' were "both shit".

The two tracks went head-to-head in the UK Official Singles Chart in August 1995 – in a chart battle which has now become a symbol of the two bands' rivalry in the Britpop years. Blur ultimately hit the Number One spot.

Writing in a RedditAMA for Dazed Digital, Albarn revealed that he now thinks that both tracks were not any good.

Albarn recently told NME that making an album with Noel Gallagher is a "distinct possibility" in future.

"I still see Noel from time to time. We text a bit," Albarn said. When asked if the pair would be making a record together, he replied, "I can imagine that being a very distinct possibility at some point in the future. But, as yet we haven't really talked about it, although…"

Albarn continued: "OK we have a little bit. We're talking. It's not anything to get excited about yet. I mean, he's doing his thing. He's finishing a new record. I've got my record coming out, but the principle of us making music together is something…you know, it would be fair to say, we have discussed it at least once."

Damon Albarn released his debut solo album 'Everyday Robots' yesterday (April 28).

Damon Albarn will play a string of live dates to mark the album's release. Damon Albarn will play:

Damon Albarn On Oasis: "I Was Never Gonna Beat Noel In A War Of Words"

Blur frontman describes class rivalry between the two bands as "insane".

Damon Albarn has said that while Oasis and Blur were always rivals during their Britpop heyday, Noel Gallagher held the upper hand in the press.

He also discussed the division that many fans saw between northern, working class Oasis and southern, middle class Blur.

Speaking in an interview with The Guardian, the Blur frontman said: "The whole class thing was just insane," says Albarn, growing suddenly animated even after all these years. "But we were young and we let ourselves get caught up in it. And the competitiveness was ridiculous for a while, but, you know, I was never gonna beat Noel in a war of words."

The pair have recently become friends and collaborators, and Albarn recently told NME that making an album with Gallagher is a "distinct possibility" in future.

"I still see Noel from time to time. We text a bit," Albarn said. When asked if the pair would be making a record together, he replied, "I can imagine that being a very distinct possibility at some point in the future. But, as yet we haven't really talked about it, although…"

Blur bassist discusses Noel and Damon Albarn's newfound bromance

Alex James described Noel Gallagher and Damon Albarn as "best buddies" while appearing on XFM Breakfast with Jon Holmes this morning (April 10).

Holmes told the Blur bassist-turned-cheese-maker that he had introduced the pair onstage the night they played together at the Royal Albert Hall, leading James to reveal: "They've been, like, best buddies ever since."

Asked what he made of their friendship, James added: "I think it's a lovely, lovely ending. They have got quite a lot in common, and they obviously enjoy each others company. It's a nice way to end. I think I still annoy him a bit, but I really try not to!"

In this week's NME, on newsstands now and available digitally, Albarn reveals that making an album with Noel Gallagher is a "distinct possibility" in future.

Damon Albarn On Collaborating With Noel Gallagher

Damon Albarn has told NME he and Noel Gallagher have ‘discussed’ the possibility of collaborating together in the future.

The former rivals publicly rubber-stamped their reconciliation at the 2013 Teenage Cancer Trust concerts when Gallagher, acting as curator last year, joined Albarn and his Blur chum Graham Coxon onstage for a rendition of ‘Tender‘.

Since then, rumours have been rife of a studio hook-up between the pair and Albarn, who has his first solo record ‘Everyday Robots‘ out at the end of this month, has now admitted that is a possibility in the future.

“I can imagine that being a very distinct possibility at some point in the future,” he said of a collaboration. “But, as yet we haven’t really talked about it. OK, we have a little bit. We’re talking. It’s not anything to get excited about yet. I mean, he’s doing his thing.”
