Russell Brand And Noel Gallagher Team Up For New Project

Russell Brand is making his radio comeback hosting a football show with pal Noel Gallagher.

It will be Russell’s return to the airwaves since quitting his BBC Radio 2 show in October after making prank calls to Fawlty Towers star Andrew Sachs.

His mate Noel will co-host the show on national chat station TalkSport so they can trade football banter, gags and insults.

A pal of Russell revealed yesterday: “TalkSport showed an interest pretty soon after Russell left his BBC show.

Movie

“He has now agreed but the exact details are yet to be confirmed.

It will be a one-off in the first instance but will become a regular show if it is a success.

“Obviously it will need to be fitted around Russell’s movie commitments in Hollywood.

“The fact he comes with Noel Gallagher is the icing on the cake.”

Swordsman Russell apologised and fell on his, erm, sword after the Sachsgate scandal where he and Jonathan ross left messages on Andrew’s answerphone about his fling with the actor’s granddaughter Georgina Baillie.

But I reckon he has served his time and personally I am pleased to hear his unique style back on the wireless.

His BBC show — on which Noel was a regular guest — was the best thing on the radio.

And for a man with silly hair who dedicates his life to his quest for my Bizarre Shagger Of The Year gong, West Ham fan Russell knows a fair bit about the beautiful game too.

And with Manchester City supporter Noel by his side the terrace banter will be much funnier than a season in the life of either of their beloved clubs.

It’s definitely a big coup for TalkSport which is fast gaining a reputation as the best place for witty radio chat.

Risks

Russell’s pal added: “It’s not about the money for Russell.

“He just loves talking football on the radio — especially with Noel.

“TalkSport is a good place for him too. The station will be prepared to work around his schedule and he will be able to take a few risks too.”

But I’m sure any granddaughter gags will be off limits.

On This Day In Oasis History...

Standing on the Shoulder of Giants is the fourth studio album by the English rock band Oasis, released on February 28, 2000. In 1999, the year preceding the final release of this album, Oasis had lost two founding members (Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs and Paul "Guigsy" McGuigan) and hired a new producer (Mark "Spike" Stent). As a result of these changes, the album's tone was more experimental, with electronica and psychedelic influences. The darker feeling and psychedelic tone of this album is a departure from earlier Britpop-influenced Oasis records.

Songs such as the Indian-influenced "Who Feels Love?", the progressive "Gas Panic!" and the electronica "Go Let It Out" depart from Oasis' old Britpop style. The album was the sixth fastest selling album in UK chart history, selling over 310,000 copies in its first week. Despite becoming their fourth number one album in the UK, it is one of the band's lowest-selling albums, selling only 3 million copies worldwide.

Trivia

The album's title was taken from the words of Sir Isaac Newton: "If I can see further than anyone else, it is only because I am standing on the shoulders of giants". Noel Gallagher saw the quote on the side of a £2 coin whilst in a pub and liked it so much he thought it would be a suitable name for Oasis' new album. He then wrote the name on the side of a cigarette packet whilst drunk. When he awoke in the morning, he realised he had written "Standing on the Shoulder of Giants — A Bum Title".

Due to the departure of Bonehead and Guigsy from the band whilst the album was in production, their parts had to be re-recorded, for legal reasons. Thus, the album only features the Gallagher brothers and Alan White. The sleeve of the album also features them.

The first track, "Fuckin' in the Bushes", is featured on the soundtrack for the film Snatch, and is regularly used in introductions for high-tempo events, due to its quick tempo and loud volume.

In the April 2006 issue of Q magazine, the album was the only Oasis record to feature in a countdown of the "50 worst albums of all time". It was placed at number 46 and described as "the low point of their fallow years", despite the fact that the album had been favourably reviewed in the magazine at its time of release and featured in the magazine's "50 Best Albums of 2000" list. In response to the Q feature, Noel has said, "Even though it wasn't our finest hour, it's a good album born through tough times. I worked harder on that album than anything before and anything since."

A notable B-Side was Lets All Make Believe. This song was on the Go Let It Out single and is said to be one of the bands finest songs. Q Magazine declared it the greatest ever "lost" track in the February 2007 issue and said that if it was on the album it would have carried "an extra star" on the review. Q gave this album 4 Stars back in 2000, meaning an extra star would be 5 stars. So with Lets All Make Believe on the album, according to Q magazine's logic, SOTSOG would have been a 5 star classic.

Track listing

01: "Fuckin' In The Bushes"
02: "Go Let It Out"
03: "Who Feels Love?"
04: "Put Yer Money Where Yer Mouth Is"
05: "Little James"
06: "Gas Panic!"
07: "Where Did It All Go Wrong?"
08: "Sunday Morning Call"
09: "I Can See A Liar"
10: "Roll It Over"

Demos

A bootleg of demo sessions recorded for this album was leaked onto the internet in January 2000. Most of these songs were recorded by Noel Gallagher with the help of a couple of friends in his home studio at Supernova Heights and at Oasis' own Wheeler End Studios complex. All of the songs, apart from "Little James", were sung by Noel.

The tracklisting of the demo bootleg is:

"Carry Us All"
"Who Feels Love?"
"Fuckin' in the Bushes"
"Little James"
"Gas Panic!
"Put Yer Money Where Yer Mouth Is"
"Sunday Morning Call"
"I Can See a Liar"
"Go Let It Out"
"Roll It Over"
"Revolution Song"
"Where Did It All Go Wrong?"
"(As Long As They've Got) Cigarettes in Hell"
"Just Getting Older"
"Let There Be Love"

At the time of the leak, four songs ("Carry Us All", "Revolution Song", "Just Getting Older" and "Let There Be Love") were not scheduled for release on either the album or as B-sides on the new single "Go Let It Out". These songs were also completely undocumented, apart from "Revolution Song", which had been mentioned by author Paolo Hewitt in his 1999 book Forever the People — Six Months on the Road with Oasis. As such, these four songs had made-up titles based on commonly-repeated phrases mentioned in the songs. Whilst "Carry Us All" and "Just Getting Older" were correctly guessed, the other two tracks were given titles which, in time, would prove to be incorrect. "Revolution Song" was given the title "Solve My Mystery" and "Let There Be Love" was given the title "It's a Crime". "Let There Be Love" was released on Don't Believe the Truth. Because Noel mentioned in a February 23, 2000 interview with Melody Maker magazine that "Revolution Song" had been demoed — but not released because Blur had recently released a similar sounding song — it can be assumed that these titles are correct.

Currently, only one song ("Revolution Song") remains commercially unreleased.

Liam Gallagher: 'I'm More Special Than Jose Mourinho'

Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher has claimed he is more “special” than Inter Milan manager Jose Mourinho, who is nicknamed 'The Special One'.

Gallagher told Portuguese TV station Top+ that he was a fan of the former Chelsea manager, but doubted his 'special' abilities.

The singer also said he expected the band to begin work on their next album shortly after the conclusion of their world tour.

"He's a dude and I like him," Gallagher said when asked about Mourinho. "He's cool man. And he's got passion. But he's not as special as me though."

Speaking about the band's next album, Gallagher said he believed the group would be able to complete half of the project if they entered the studio now.

He added: "Personally, after the tour I think we should have a couple of months off - not too long, maybe six months.

“Then I think we should go back in the studio, make another album. But it's not down to me, you know what I mean, because I'm not a solo artist."

Oasis' world tour will call in the UK this summer for a series of stadium shows.

Well, well, well - so these little text messages have now become "award-winning", eh? Oh, the irony! Irie Nancy finds the whole thing rather amusing, considering that I've yet to go within 10 feet of a computer let alone own one of the blasted things.

The Best Dressed Award was not to be and I guess Mr. Obama was arguably more deserving of Hero status. But all in all, a tidy little haul, I think.

Thanks again if you voted.

In a bit.

Taken from Noel's awarding winning tour Diary for oasisinet...

So. Where have we been then? Been to Bolzano, which is in Italy, but it used to be part of Austria and everyone speaks German!! Wonder if that causes problems during the World Cup?

Been doing a lot of Asian interviews of late. On the phone. I hate speaking on the phone, never mind being interviewed on the bloody thing. Saying that, I did impress a lady from Hong Kong with my knowledge of the 60s Hong Kong music scene - there actually was one! Teddy Robin And The Playboys - a tune called "Magic Colours" - amazing! I plan to cover it one day and turn it into a smash hit.

A Chinese journalist asked me did I have a message for "Chinese fan" ahead of our up-coming Chinese tour?

"Erm..not really"
"Nothing? Nothing you want to say?"
"Just tell 'em to watch out - Oasis are coming"
"Ok", she says. "I tell Chinese fan to wash it out!"

Left Italy behind last night in Florence. Before the show I overheard a frankly bizarre conversation between Tall Scratch and The Shroud, which went as follows:

T.S. - "I'm thinking of 'going commando' for the gig tonight."
Sh. - "Really? Why?"
T.S. - "Just to see what it feels like."
Me - (?!?!?!?!?)

Now, I'm all for a bit of bohemia, etc., but doing a gig with no underpants on?! Come on!? Is that what it's come to? That kinda shit leads to "other things" and it's a bit Carl Barat, to say the least..(more of that later).

For those of you who listened to the gig on the radio, I apologise. Think it sounded like a bit of a mess. Shame to end the Italian bit with a whimper. Still, them Italian kids fuckin' rule. See you at Wembley, if you're coming. FORZA ITALIA!!

It's the NME awards today. We got the award for the best band. Thanks very much if you voted for that. Best dressed man is the one I really wanted though. If only to annoy Romeo.

Today I am mostly in Vienna, Austria. Night off tonight. Gonna go to an Irish bar with the crew and hopefully watch Liverpool get put in their place by Real Madrid.

Now, it turns out the Scratch wasn't talking about his undies, he was talking about his.... EAR PLUGS!! He wears ear plugs and he was taking THEM out for the gig! Phewee! For a minute there I thought..well, actually, now I think about it, I don't know what's worse; the thought of someone doing the gig sans underwear or the fact that there are actually EAR PLUGS being worn onstage!

In a-fukin'-bit.

Liam Gallagher 'I Don't Want To Go On Stage Sounding Like A Fookin Idiot'

'Why do you think I don't like journalists?" asks a mystified Liam Gallager when I tell him that my intention is to make our telephonic interview as painless as possible.

"Young man, I have followed your career since the beginning," I reply. "And, besides, its no secret."

He is quick to respond: "I don't hate all journalists. I'm just not into talking, so I say it once, then it's over. It's hard."

Looking back over the years, the media circus that is Oasis, particularly back in the '90s, was certainly created by the lead singer of the band and his temperamental brother, Noel.

From fisticuffs between the two to cocaine parties and hot models, the Gallagher brothers were probably more famous for their lifestyles than their music. They publicly dissed each other. They publicly dissed Blur as well as the US grunge movement and, more recently, they refused to be on the same bill as Coldplay.

Last year, Noel also had a dig at the organisers of the Glastsonbury Festival for booking rapper Jay-Z as a headline act. "Glastonbury has a tradition of guitar music. I'm not having hip-hop at Glastonbury. It's wrong," he said.

Jay-Z in return had a dig at Noel on his latest album, Blueprint 3: "That bloke from Oasis says I can't play guitar. Somebody should have told him I'm a f***ing rock star," before breaking into a line from the Oasis hit, Wonderwall: "Today is gonna be the day that I throw it all back to you."

At best, the Gallagher brothers' behaviour can be described as laddish. At worst, they were rude yobs who had scant respect for anyone and when the pressure became too much they viciously turned on the media, which in turn created more paparazzi fodder.

Liam, in particular, developed a nasty reputation - kinda like the Wayne Rooney of Britpop.

So, obviously I approached the interview with some trepidation. But to my surprise, the man was honest, funny, at times self- deprecating and spontaneous.

Many world-famous musicians are guarded and give record- company-trained responses. Clearly, these training methods did not work on Liam. I speculate he probably told the little record company's PR poppie to get knotted in not-so-polite language.

The interview became more of a banter than anything else.

"I'm in Marseilles, in France," Liam says in his thick Manchester accent. "We're playing a gig tonight."

"So, have you guys ever been to South Africa?"

"No, but my dentist is South African. He says it's great. He's actually coming to watch us when we play there."

Oh cool, I guess.

"Do you know, I have never met a South African girl before. You're the first. I'm fookin' serious. This is history."

"So you'll never forget me, Liam."

"No, I won't."

My heart skips a beat.

"Aside from playing the fest what are you planning to do in SA, cage diving with the sharks?

"I can't swim, but I think we're staying on in Cape Town for about three days after the tour."

"What can fans expect from Oasis in concert?"

"The coolest rock 'n roll band in the world. We gonna be banging it out. But we don't jump around. There's no pirate sex or anything. We just do the tunes."

"Did you ever think you'd still be doing Oasis after everything that has happened in your career?"

"Yeah, I did, but I thought we'd be a lot bigger. People are just being stubborn. Fookin' arbs. It's like, c'mon man!"

Somewhere in the back of my mind I think, well maybe if you hadn't shoved so much marching powder up your nose and maybe if you and Noel hadn't … nah …

"Liam, on your latest album, Dig Out Your Soul, you wrote most of the music. Have the dynamics in the band changed?"

"I don't trust myself as a song- writer, I'm definitely the singer. But everything in the band is still the same. I'm much more worried about my voice. For years I never warmed up before a concert. I'd just stand around smoking and stuff.

"But people spend lots of money to see us and I respect that. I don't want to go on stage sounding like a fookin' idiot. Now I drink herbal drinks and shit."

"And honey?"

"Yeah, honey. I fookin' hate it."

"You don't party so hard now?"

"We still have a laugh and party, but we've slowed down."

"Do you know who's performing with you in South Africa?"

"I don't care, but I suppose you're gonna tell me anyway."

"Liam, Do you want to know or not?"

"Yeah, go on, tell me."

"Panic at the Disco."

"Ah, they're fookin' rubbish."

"Snow Patrol?"

"Ooh, I like them. Some of them are my mates.

"I can't remember the names of the others."

"That's because they're probably fookin' rubbish."

Liam, do you enjoy your job?

"I fookin' love it. I wake up and piss around all day and then I go on stage at 9pm. I wouldn't have a clue what to do outside of this. I think we're important as a band.

"Okay, now that the bullshit is out the way, it's purely financial reasons. So the lads can go on holiday, or buy a new house. But I'm the biggest fan of the band."

Wow, methinks somewhere between the fame and the fights, Liam has grown up.

The Coca Cola Fest takes place on April 10 at New Market Racecourse, Johannesburg, and in Cape Town on April 13 at The Ostrich Farm. Book at Computicket.

Early next week we will be posting an exclusive Q&A with Noel Gallagher on a range of different subjects.

I was lucky enough to be allowed to do an email interview with Noel and asked him numerous questions covering the band now and when I first saw them in 1994, the lack of B-sides on the first two singles from Dig Out Your Soul, Russell Brand, Ricky Hatton, Dizzee Rascal and about changing the set-list for the upcoming UK stadium tour and much more.

Check back early next week for the exclusive interview...

Taken from Noel's tour diary for oasisinet.com

Spent the day in bed yesterday nursing a bad head. For some reason I watched MTV’s European Top 10. Fuck me, it was painful. Leona Lewis doing Snow Patrol? Ouch! Kings Of Leon doing U2? Ouch! The Killers doing fancy dress? Ouch! Lady Gaga? (I may be showing my age here but who’s Lady Gaga?). It made my teeth hurt! MY TEETH!!

That interview with The Sunday Times fella was great. He was good fun. Not often you can say that about a journalist.

Still in Venice. Leaving shortly. I genuinely have no idea where I’m going. Are we staying in Italy? I hope so. These kids make for amazing gigs.

Wonder how “the shoes” are getting on? I’ll find out soon enough.

In a bit.

Falling Down - All The Details..

Oasis have confirmed the formats and extra tracks on their forthcoming single ‘Falling Down’.

The brand new Noel Gallagher-penned song 'Those Swollen Hand Blues' features in addition to various remixes of the single.

The Prodigy have twisted the track into new sonic forms whilst Marilyn Manson bassist Twiggy and Dave Sardy, who previously collaborated on a remix of 'I'm Outta Time', have created a new dance-floor filler!

Readers of Noel's 'Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere' will also be aware of the remix by Amorphous Androgynous who have delivered a 22 minute epic version of ‘Falling Down’. In a recent entry, Noel described it as, ‘A staggering piece of music. Monumental even. All superlatives will apply”.

The single is released in the UK on Monday 9th March (8th March digitally) and is taken from the band's number one album, 'Dig Out Your Soul'.

Liam Gallagher's Black Mood

Noel Gallagher says his brother Liam is like the "blackest winter ever".

The Oasis rocker believes he is far more optimistic than his sibling bandmate, and claims Liam - who he has repeatedly clashed with over the years - often has a gloomy effect on people.

When asked what season he is most like, Noel said: "I am eternally spring. But my brother Liam is like the blackest winter ever."

The guitarist went on to analyse people who compare themselves to other seasons, saying: "Anyone who chooses autumn must be a geography teacher. People who chose summer are not to be trusted. I chose spring because that is when my birthday is."

The 41-year-old musician also revealed his 17-month-old son Donovan, whose mother is Noel's long-term partner Sara MacDonald, already has a strong personality.

He added: "He is the greatest human being I have ever met in my life. He really is just laugh a minute."

Noel - who also has an eight-year-old daughter, Anais, with ex-wife Meg Mathews - revealed Donovan is trying to get to grips with what his rock star dad does for a job.

He explained: "He doesn't really understand my job. All he sees is that one minute I am there and the next minute I am gone."

FORZA ROMA!! What a gig. Up there with best so far. Loud, loud, loud!!

Woke up in Venice this morning. 6.45 am. Had to get a boat to our hotel. Sailed through the "streets" then across the river just as the sun was rising up like a fuzzy tennis ball in the haze. What a beautiful way to start the day.

Being interviewed by The Sunday Times today. Wonder how long it'll take the geezer to mention Tony Blair? 30 mins, I reckon.

Got a day off here tomorrow. Should be interesting getting on that boat drunk later. Wonder if Mohamed al-Fayed's shoes will get wet? I'll let you know.

In a bit.

Ciao.

We're in Rome. It's great to be back. I forget how much I love this town. Very pleasing to the eye. Noisy though. Was everyone born tooting a fuckin' horn here, or what?

Watched Man City last night. Fuckin' blew it in the last minute. Feel sorry for Sparky. Some of our players are dopey. Still, 2-2 away from home's not bad.

They had Sky News at the hotel. I kept seeing re-runs of The Brits. My God, you could smell the cheese from the Colosseum.

Bang-up for this gig tonight. If memory serves me correctly we smashed it here last time. There may have been a small riot!

I have to go. A pair of Mohamed al-Fayed's shoes have just arrived.

In a bit.

You Gotta Row With It Liam Gallagher

Some Might Say rowdy Liam Gallagher bit off more than he could chew when he had a one-to-one with a giant snapper.

The Oasis star got set to square up after he was caught on camera chatting to a blonde in a restaurant.

Furious Liam – who has a history of scuffling with photographers – charged out, apparently spoiling for a fight.

But things changed when he discovered the awesome size of his opponent.

The cameraman, six inches taller than the singer and about twice his weight, towered over him.

Liam, 36, waved his arms around and swapped a few choice words – then went in for a hug instead and got a friendly pat and a smile from his would-be rival. The snapper had upset the star when he took a picture as Liam relaxed with pals after a gig in Rome.

“The whole scene was really funny,” said an onlooker. “Liam was chatting to a girl who was in his group of pals and was furious when he thought their picture had been taken.

“He came hurtling out to take on the photographer but was dwarfed as soon as he stood next to him.

“It seemed like he’d had a few drinks and there was a bit of a confrontation, but he quickly thought better of it.

“Liam even showed his softer side by making up with the man. He has this image of a hardman but perhaps he is more interested in a cuddle nowadays.”

Oasis - Falling Down Single Review

A remix of this tune has already been released as a B-Side from 'The Shock Of The Lightning' but that doesn't concern the likes of Noel Gallagher, and lets face it two singles have come off 'Dig Out Your Soul' and Noel has not been lead vocals on either. It seems that single number three will be a Noel sung track, and what better song than 'Falling Down'.

Normally Mr Gallagher senior does like a sing a long tune that everyone can bellow along too after nine, ten or eleven pints, but this time he has really hit the nail on the head with a glorious track. With The Chemical Brothers remix 'Falling Down' is a superb track, without the remix it is just as strong and you find yourself arguing with yourself on which version is better, because you don't dislike either.

In reality love or hate this band it will be a sad day in British music when these guys decide to call it a day, Oasis are the real deal and although they have a lot to answer for, for many s**t bands forming because of them, they are still legendary.

8/10

Visitors to Oasisinet.com are currently being redirected to the band's myspace page. A statement posted there explains that the site's host Trinity Street unexpectedly ceased trading last week. Trinity was also running the band's official online merchandising store. The problems are currently being worked on and both the online store and website should have a new home soon the post concluded.
