Originally built in 1967 by Jaguar as a four-door saloon car, this vehicle underwent a transformation in the late nineties. At the height of the “Cool Britannia” era Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher decided it was about time he got himself a car.
He came across a firm of coachbuilders called Vicarage who were able to fit modern running gear into a Jaguar Mk2, as well as carrying out a drophead conversion which also meant removing the rear doors and extending the front doors.
Noel had just one obstacle to overcome, that of learning to drive. Given that the build time of the car was expected to be two years Noel thought that he could “easily learn to drive” in that time.
After two years the car was delivered to Noel, who had not only forgotten that he had even purchased the car, but he had done nothing about learning to drive.
Fast-forward twenty years and the car was removed from long-term storage and sent back to Vicarage for recommissioning.
The car was then used in the music video for Noel’s band High Flying Bird’s single “Flying On The Ground”, which also featured Dr Who star Matt Smith.
The car was acquired by Jaguar Land Rover Classic during 2022 and had its latest celebrity encounter during Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations where it was used to drive sixties icon and supermodel Twiggy to Buckingham Palace.
