The Boy's Don Good, Noel

Allow me to introduce Donavon Rory MacDonald Gallagher.

The little lad left London’s Portland Hospital on Monday, with dad Noel and mum Sara MacDonald.

And my exclusive snaps show he may have inherited his mum’s gorgeous looks.

The legend’s beloved Man City have already moved to add another Gallagher fan, with a gift pack of junior membership, a baby City kit and a Baby Blue On Board car sign.

A club source said: “We wouldn’t want him becoming a United, Arsenal or Chelsea fan – I’m sure his old man agrees.”

Noel's guitar made by Artist Pete Mckee, can be found here.

Description:
Acrylic and emulsion paints on fiberglass, signed by Noel Gallagher.
3100 mm by 1070 mm

The emotional impact of McKee's work cannot be underestimated - like a faded photograph found at the back of a drawer - the artist's work brings to life people, places and characters that time has all but erased. Mods, rockers, British seaside holidays, chopper bikes, working men's clubs, factory girls and teddy boys are just some of the subjects that live on in the world of Pete Mckee. Since his first exhibition in a Sheffield pub in 2005 Pete has had over ten solo exhibitions, showing in New York, London, Dublin, Brighton and Saltaire.- www.petemckee.com
Of the process the artist says:

"It was great to Have Noels direct involvement with the guitar and he was very keen to make sure all the records and bands he chose reflected his influences as a lad learning to play guitar, to the point that underneath a couple of the sleeves lie rejected choices only he and I know about."

Gibson GuitarTown London is a community art project aimed at bringing the community of London together through art, music and charitable giving. Through The Gibson Foundation, the proceeds from ticket sales to the event on Thursday, November 8th, and the sale of the guitars at auction will benefit three non-profit organizations. The benefiting organizations are: The Prince's Trust, Teenage Cancer Trust and Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy. Thank you for your generous support of these organizations by participating in the auction and attending the event.

Oasis To Release New Single In Three Weeks

The Gallaghers embrace the digital age with 'Lord Don't Slow Me Down'

Oasis have broken their vow to have a year off and will release a new single in three weeks' time.

The Noel Gallagher fronted track from their first ever digital-only release on October 21.

The song will be available from the band's website www.oasisinet.com, and comes bundled with two live songs from their City Of Manchester Stadium gigs in 2005. A video for the song will appear on YouTube from October 1, the same day the song debuts on radio.

Noel explained he felt the song was good enough to go on a album, but included it in the documentary instead. "It's good and rocking - just 12 bar blues really," he said. "It's got left off the last album as it was the same verse all the way through, but it's kind of locked into that now as it appears at the end of the film."

The song's bluesy feel reflects the Oasis leader's current listening tastes. "I probably listen to Neil Young and Bob Dylan more than any other artists," he explained before revealing how his songwriting process works these days.

"One day you hit a chord - let's say A minor, the saddest chord of all and it won't mean f**k all. The next day you're in a different head space and it will sound completely different," he said. "Usually I start with a chord on the guitar and if the first line pops into your head you realise you're going to make a fortune soon!"

Meanwhile, the DVD of Lord Don't Slow Me Down will be out on October 29. Noel explained that the documentary was an accident, as Oasis had only intended to make one video with director Baillie Walsh.

"Baillie started making a video for 'Let There Be Love' and he thought the stuff was so great he convinced us to let him come on the road for nine months, " stated Noel. "I was concerned because the years of kissing the sky and drinking champagne out of cowboy boots at 10am are gone. He just said he'd tell it like it is - and this is it!"

Noel added that a film of the 'Be Here Now' tour would have been very different. "That's the greatest thing I've ever been involved in with the band, "he declared.

"We toured the globe as the biggest band in the world and everything you could possibly want you got two of!"

Noel Gallagher Wore Leathers During Birth

Noel Gallagher reveals that he wore his leather jacket throughout his wife's childbirth at the weekend.

The Oasis guitarist told Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles that he just stood nearby and nodded while his wife was in labour with their son Donovan.

Gallagher commented: "I was there. It was all right for me but my missus was giving me a bit of stick afterwards, saying, 'You never took your jacket off all the way through!'

"I was in my leather jacket, nodding 'You’ll be all right - just get it out before Soccer AM finishes.' I think the worst thing is that you don’t have any specific role. You just stand there and nod."

Noel Gallagher Reveals The Story Behind 'Lord Don't Slow Me Down'

Noel Gallagher has told NME.COM the history behind the band's forthcoming single 'Lord Don't Slow Me Down'.

As reported yesterday (September 24), Oasis are set to release their first ever digital-only single. The track will be released on October 21.

Speaking to NME.COM, Oasis leader Noel Gallagher declared that the track is not simply a throwaway song he had hanging around, but one that he was considering for an album before it got linked to the band's tour documentary of the same name.

"That got left off the last album because it was the same verse all the way until the end," he explained, "but it's kind of locked into that (the documentary) now because it appears at the end of the film."

Gallagher added that he was particularly pleased with the direction the song was taking the band.

"It's quite rocking," he declared. "It's just 12 bar blues really, but it's good."

Meanwhile the film 'Lord Don't Slow Me Down' is released on DVD on October 29.

Noel Gallagher Is The Nodfather

Noel Gallagher has talked the nation through childbirth — rock star style.

The Oasis lord has told how he just stood there nodding as girlfriend Sara MacDonold gave birth to tot Donovan on Saturday morning.

He, er, bared his soul about the experience in a Radio 1 chinwag with DJ CHRIS MOYLES.

After Chris congratulated him, the footie-mad rocker joked: “What? for being third in the league?” — a reference to Sven Goran Eriksson working miracles at Noel’s beloved Manchester City.

Speaking about the birth, at London’s private Portland Hospital, Noel added: “I was there. It was all right for me but my missus was giving me a bit of stick afterwards, saying, ‘You never took your jacket off all the way through!’

“I was in my leather jacket, nodding ‘You’ll be all right — just get it out before Soccer AM finishes.’ I think the worst thing is that you don’t have any specific role. You just stand there and nod.”

Noel, who also has seven-year-old Anais by ex Meg Mathews, added: “The baby’s called Donovan. Sounds like a man who means business.”

Noel Gallagher: 'Somewhat Predictably Our New Single Is Brilliant'

Noel Gallagher has spoken following news that Oasis will be releasing a brand new single in October.

Appearing this morning (September 24) on Radio 1 with DJ Chris Moyles, the guitarist spoke about the new release, quipping that "it's coming out on that internet".

Sharing the band's inspiration for the online release, he explained: "You know there's a DVD coming out for Christmas... somewhat predictably. The title track was so brilliant that the powers that be said 'lets just put it out'. And I'm like, 'well we're not ready to do that yet'. So, it was decided it would be a nice thing to put it out for those people who have computers."

Joking about his lack of technological prowess, he stated: "I'm not one of those people, so it's a good job I get my own copy of it, because I wouldn't get it otherwise. I've got an iPod, but Gem sorts all that out for me. That's filth, y'know?"

Meanwhile the Oasis leader also spoke about the birth of his second child, a son, at the weekend (September 22).

After Moyles congratulated him, Gallagher joked: "What? for being third in the league?" - referring to the impressive start to the season his football team Manchester City have made - before explaining he was there for the birth.

"I was there," he explained. "It was alright for me, my missus was giving me a bit of stick afterwards, saying, 'you never took your jacket off all the way through!' I was just in my leather jacket, nodding 'you'll be alright, just get it out before Soccer AM finishes'. I think the worst thing is that you don't have any specific role [as a father at the birth]. You just stand there and nod."

He added that he had named the boy Donovan Rory Gallagher after "his granddad Rory".

Gallagher added: "He's called Donovan. Sounds like a man who means business already."

Noel Gallagher: My Boy Will Be A Legend

He must be the coolest newborn on the ward.

The tot was just hours old when dad Noel Gallagher hailed his son Donovan as a legend.

No pressure then, young man.

The Oasis star sent friends and family a text on Saturday afternoon to announce his baby news.

It read: “He shall go by the name of Donovan Rory MacDonald Gallagher and he will be a legend. Give thanks and praise.”

I assume little Donovan is named after the Sixties Mellow Yellow singer rather than former Neighbours star Jason or LA Galaxy striker Landon.

But the lad was almost handed a more unusual name.

Noel has been joking for weeks he was going to call the kid Sven.

The songwriting hero has become a big fan of the name since Sven Goran Eriksson turned around the fortunes of his beloved Man City.

But his lovely missus Sara MacDonald put a stop to that idea. A pal said:

“During the pregnancy Noel was calling the bump Little Sven. He said he wanted to name the lad after the City boss. Luckily he’s ended up as Donovan.”

Sara’s first baby was born at 11.15am on Saturday at London’s Portland Hospital after a seven-hour labour. He weighed in at 7lb 5oz and Sara insisted on a natural birth.

Noel — who has a seven-year-old daughter, Anais, with ex wife Meg Mathews — is delighted to have a little lad to take to watch City.

And Donovan was born just a day after uncle Liam’s birthday.

Meanwhile, Oasis have signed a new deal with Universal Music Group.

The band control domestic releases through their own Big Brother label but previously Sony took care of international distribution.

Universal now have that role, starting with next month’s DVD release of Lord Don’t Slow Me Down.

After a short paternity leave Noel will be back in the studio to work on the new Oasis album. The lads have been working on the record in London’s Abbey Road Studios.

Noel — who fronts a Radio 1 Legends show at 9pm tonight as part of their 40th birthday celebrations — has described the new tracks as “heavy”.

And the album — expected early next year — will no doubt provide a fine soundtrack for his son’s early life.

It's A Boy For Rocker Noel And Scots Girlfriend Sara

Rocker Noel Gallagher was celebrating with his Scots girlfriend Sara MacDonald yesterday after she had a baby boy.

Sara, of Edinburgh, gave birth at 11.15am at a London hospital.

A spokesman said the baby, weighing 7lb 5oz, has been named Donovan Rory MacDonald Gallagher and he and his mum are doing well.

Noel's new son is named after folk singer Donovan and Sara's dad Rory.

The Oasis star was with Sara at the birth. They have been together for seven years.

It is the first child for the couple but the second for Gallagher, who has a seven-year-old daughter Anais by ex-wife Meg Mathews.

Earlier, Noel had admitted he could not wait to be a father again.

He said: "I'm looking forward to seeing a cross between me and my missus because she is gorgeous and I'm a genius - God help ya."

And he even admitted the birth could hold up Oasis's long-awaited next album.

He said: "As Sara is making a baby, that kind of puts most of this year out, I would have thought."

Sara's parents Rory, 72, and Isobel, 64, live in Murrayfield, Edinburgh. Last night, proud gran Isobel said: "Noel phoned this morning to tell us.

"He was at the birth and is feeling fantastic. We're planning to go down to see Donovan but we don't know when until I can arrange time off.

"One of the baby's middle names is Rory after my husband and he's absolutely thrilled."

Noel Is A Dad With Donovan

Noel Gallagher was last night celebrating becoming a dad for the second time.

The Oasis star, 40, was with girlfriend Sara MacDonald as she gave birth to a 7.5lb baby boy - her first child - at 11.15am yesterday.

The couple, who have been together for seven years, have named their son Donovan Rory MacDonald Gallagher.

Noel told pals they called him Donovan after the 60s singer who had hits with Mellow Yellow and Sunshine Superman - and Rory because it's a "traditional Irish name".

Sara, 35, said of her new son: "He is truly beautiful."

It was a natural birth following seven hours of labour. Noel's spokeswoman added: "They are both overjoyed and delighted."

Noel has a seven-year-old daughter Anais by his ex-wife, showbiz party planner Meg Mathews.

Little by Little" is a song by British rock band Oasis, first released as the sixth track on their fifth studio album Heathen Chemistry. On September 23 2002, it was released with "She Is Love" as the first (and only) double A-sided single by the band, peaking at #2 in the UK Singles Chart (see 2002 in British music). Noel Gallagher provides lead vocals on the track.

"Little by Little" was perhaps the most controversial song on the album, receiving mixed reviews from those who felt it was a classic example of an upbeat Oasis anthem and those who felt it was a twee, patronising, sycophantic melody. Regardless of this, the song managed to peak at number two in the UK charts based largely on the publicity garnered by the song.

The promo video to the song featured a guest role by Robert Carlyle. The cover art for the single is an homage to Robert Indiana's LOVE artwork.

On This Day In Oasis History...

"Stand by Me" is a song by British rock group Oasis, written by lead guitarist, Noel Gallagher. It was the second single to be released from the band's third album, Be Here Now, and peaked at number 2 in the UK charts in when realesed on September 22 1997. It was kept from the top-spot by the record breaking Elton John single "Candle in the Wind," re-recorded and released in memory of Princess Diana, who had died in August of that year. Despite this, it still went Gold in the UK.

Though overall, Be Here Now received a cold reception from music critics, "Stand by Me" was acknowledged as one of the stand-out tracks on the album. A critically acclaimed acoustic version of "Stand by Me" was shown on television the night before the release of Be Here Now as part of a BBC1 documentary, featuring Noel, Liam Gallagher and drummer Alan White sitting by the side of a swimming pool, with Liam on vocals, Noel on acoustic guitar and White holding a tambourine.

However, due to Noel Gallagher's general dislike of Be Here Now, "Stand by Me" is rarely played live by the band at their concerts, as it is Noel who generally decides the song listings for Oasis' tours. A live version of the song from this tour can be found on the double-CD version of Familiar to Millions.

Noel Gallagher claims to have written the song whilst suffering from food poisoning when he first moved to London. His mother Peggy would phone him to check on him and repeatedly told him to ensure he was eating properly. This spurred Gallagher to cook himself a proper English Sunday dinner, which resulted in a bout of food poisoning. Gallagher claims that the song's first line - "Made a meal and threw it up on Sunday/I've got a lot of things to learn" - came to him as he lay on the floor and it was then that he began to pen the lyrics to the song.

The title for the song probably comes from the song "Stand By Me", which was covered by the Gallagher's idol John Lennon.

Sister Lovers, a group that invited Oasis to a May 1993 gig at King Tut's Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow, Scotland, where they were spotted by Creation Records chief Alan McGee, who reportedly offered Oasis a recording contract on the spot after the gig.

"Going Nowhere" - apparently Noel's attempt at a Burt Bacharach style song - can be found on The Masterplan, a collection of Oasis B-sides. It is one of only two B-sides from the Be Here Now era to be included on the album. Although it was not released until 1997, the song was written in 1990, before Noel even joined Oasis, let alone before they were signed. Despite this, it shows an uncanny level of perceptiveness from Noel with lines like I'm gonna get me a motor car/Maybe a Jaguar/Maybe a plane/Or a day of fame/I'm gonna be a millionaire.

Oasis To Open Virtual World Online Space

Well you can wait for the mainstream press to tell you all about it on Monday or you can read it right here and at www.live4ever.us

Press Dispensary - UK rock band Oasis is opening its official online space in the virtual world Second Life (SL) this Monday, September 24, and is kicking off with a preview of its latest release, a feature-length-plus, limited edition double DVD entitled ‘Lord Don’t Slow Me Down’. The facility – built for Oasis in Second Life’s ‘New Horizon’ business park – is a joint venture between SL developer New Business Horizons (NBH – http://www.nbhorizons.com ) and SL media producer Phoenix Film & Television (http://www.phoenixmedia.co.uk ).

From Monday, visitors can watch the DVD’s trailer as they browse around the space, pick up free goodies such as a virtual t-shirt and coffee table book, have a look at stills from the production and pre-order the double DVD itself for real world delivery by Amazon. The real world release of ‘Lord Don’t Slow Me Down’ is scheduled for October 29, 2007 by Big Brother Recordings in the UK and Big Brother Recordings/Universal internationally.

Shown at a handful of screenings during 2006, ‘Lord Don’t Slow Me Down’ is a feature-length, full-on ‘definitive’ documentary in which film-maker Baillie Walsh follows the Gallagher brothers on a year-long world tour of 26 different countries, playing to more than two million people. For the DVD release, the feature also offers the option of voice-overs from the band, a Noel Gallagher Q & A session with fans from New York City and outtakes from the film. The limited edition version contains a second disc with a 90 minute live DVD capturing the band’s homecoming show at the City of Manchester Stadium in July 2005, together with footage sent in by fans.

The trailer for the product – which gives a fascinating insight into Oasis experiencing the ups and downs of the road, and what they make of their lives – is being shown only in Second Life and on MySpace.

Alan Haymes (SL avatar: Doctor Hickman) of NBH explains: “The Oasis space mirrors everything you’d expect in the real world, but with the added advantage that it’s accessible to visitors from all over Second Life at the touch of a simple teleport button.”

Emma Fulford of Universal Music adds: “Oasis fans can be found in all corners of the ‘real’ world and we wanted to make sure that their Second Life counterparts also enjoy what promises to be one of the decade’s greatest rock documentaries and live concerts.”

The Oasis SL store can be found at SLURL Blue Horizon/81/153/26

Want to get into a Kaiser Chief's head? Ricky and Nick let loose in the weird space between their ears.

Nick Hodgson: Success has made me a lot less precocious. Not that I was terribely precocious before, but I did have a certain level of precociousness.

When I was a teenager, 18 or whatever, I think I used to be a bit of a dick. I used to think I was better than Oasis. And I wasn't. Am I now? Back catalogue-wise, no.

Happy Birthday Liam Gallagher

Happy Birthday, 35 today

William John Paul Gallagher (born September 21, 1972, Longsight, Manchester) is the lead vocalist for the band Oasis. He is famous for his erratic behaviour, distinctive singing style and abrasive attitude. Although his brother Noel Gallagher writes the majority of the band's songs, in recent years Liam has increasingly developed himself as a songwriter, and has contributed songs for the most recent albums of the band.

Despite differing opinions on his antics, Liam was one of the figureheads of the britpop movement in the 1990s and remains one of the most recognisable and charismatic characters in modern British music.

Lead Singer

Liam is well known for his original style of singing, and his voice on Oasis tracks is instantly recognisable. Liam once compared his vocal style to a blend of John Lennon and John Lydon. Noel has hinted that he uses certain words regularly in his songs because of the way Liam pronounces them when he sings. For example, Noel has included the word 'shine' in several songs because Liam famously sings it as 'Sheee-yienn-ah' (probably influenced in part by John Lennon's protracted, nasal phrasing on words such as "shiiiine" in the Beatles song "Rain" and John Lennon's song "Instant Karma") "We all shiiiiine on" Noel jokes that Liam now does this all the time, imitating Liam phoning him up and asking "D'yer wanna go for a piiiiiint-ah?"
The UK based music magazine NME have regularly proclaimed Liam as the "greatest British vocalist of the past 25 years."

Liam's stage presence has been both praised and derided. He is famed for going against rock and roll tradition by rarely touching the microphone or its stand. Instead, he stands, hands behind back or in his pockets, with a bent knee and sideways bend at the waist, his neck bent upwards towards an angled-down microphone. This recognisable singing pose has been suggested by some as a contributing factor to his distinctive vocals.

But many years of singing in that pose, along with years of heavy smoking and drinking may have taken their toll, with many fans feeling Gallagher's voice may now lack the range and power he exhibited in his youth. Although it is a subject regularly debated and argued about by Oasis fans, neither Liam or Noel Gallagher have made much public comment about it, although in a BBC interview on June 2002, Liam admitted he couldn't sing certain older songs live "because I'm not 21 these days", and in December 2005 Noel expressed frustration at the lack of variation in live setlists because "We draw up a list of songs we'd like to play, Liam crosses them all off, and then he draws up a list of songs that he's capable of singing, and then we kind of look at it and go 'but that's the fucking same as last time'."

Songwriting

Liam's first known dabbles into songwriting came in the early days of Oasis, before Noel Gallagher joined. Liam and Bonehead co-wrote a handful of songs, Liam writing the words and Bonehead writing the music, including "Take Me" and "Life In Vain" (both available on bootlegs). Of these songs, only "Take Me" met the Noel Gallagher seal of approval, with his wish to re-record and release it being turned down by the writers.

Liam also co-wrote a song (titled "Love Me and Leave Me") with former Stone Roses guitarist and songwriter John Squire for The Seahorses' debut album in 1997.

With 2000's Standing on the Shoulder of Giants came a slight relaxation in Noel's songwriting monopoly. Liam's first successful attempt to produce a song adequate for an Oasis album was "Little James", written about his stepson James. The song was ridiculed by a lot of fans and critics who mocked it's childlike rhyme scheme and heavy Beatles influence.

This more democratic approach to songwriting, save Liam further chances to showcase his abilities in this particular area, with three songs being included on 2002's Heathen Chemistry; a "deep-thinking" rocking ballad, "Born on a Different Cloud", the sneering rocker "Better Man" and the mellow, acoustic "Songbird", written for his fiancée Nicole Appleton. Noel claimed that his brother had written five songs for the Heathen Chemistry sessions and from these they took the best three. His tunes, along with the record, received a much warmer reception from fans and high sales, despite receiving bad reviews from critics again.

The latest Oasis album, 2005's Don't Believe the Truth, features a further three of Liam's songs - "The Meaning of Soul", "Love Like A Bomb" and "Guess God Thinks I'm Abel". The second is described by Noel as "Songbird's bigger brother" and a "song for the ladies", while the latter - as a song in the vein of "Born On A Different Cloud", but without the guitars. Another Liam song is the acoustic ballad "Won't Let You Down" - also inspired by Lennon's "Give Peace a Chance" - which appeared on the single "Lyla". Noel stressed that most of the batch of 70 tunes written for the turbulent Don't Believe the Truth sessions were written single-handedly by Liam. Another new Liam-written song was released as a b-side to the single, "The Importance Of Being Idle". The song, entitled "Pass Me Down The Wine", features an acoustic-led melody in the vein of "Songbird".

However, in an interview following the release of Don't Believe the Truth, Liam stated that he doesn't believe he is improving as a songwriter and often needs guitarist Gem Archer's assistance. As a consequence, Gem is credited as co-writer of "Love Like A Bomb" on the new album. He commented "Gem helps me out a lot, I struggle with lyrics sometimes... I can't find the words. The words I find hard 'cos I'm fucking thick."

A new Liam song "The Boy With The Blues" was planned for a stand-alone single release in Summer 2006, but the planned recording sessions for the song didn't take place.

Rock N' Roll's Greatest Brawlers

“Doorman you got an attitude” seems the perfect phrase to use as Stereophonics frontman Kelly Jones sustained a nasty injury after a post award show brawl last night (September 19).

The Welsh singer was thrown out of London bar Amika after reportedly being found in the ladies toilets and refused to go quietly.

After pleading with the bouncers that he was only checking on his girlfriend, Jones was shown the door - as he left he hurled his arms into a set of glasses causing the horrific gash to his arm.

The events did not stop there as once outside the venue Jones and stand-in guitarist Adam Zindani scrapped with a drunken clubber after he hurled abuse at the Stereophonics man.

The band had performed earlier in the evening at The Vodafone Live Music Awards and something tells me when Jones sings ‘Doorman’ next time there will be an added bitterness.

Check out Kelly, Liam Gallagher and many more in our Rock n' Roll Brawlers gallery here.

Track Of The Day

Venezuela-raised, LA-based, psych-folk longhair Devendra Banhart is something a loose cannon. Catch him live on the right night and you’ll be transfixed by his quivering, whispered vocals and otherworldly stage presence. See him a week later and you’ll find your patience tested by interminable, shapeless, instrumental “freakouts”.

Certainly, Banhart’s wilfully avant-garde twist on 60s folk is an acquired taste – just check out his bat-crazy cover of Oasis’ Don’t Look Back In Anger - though, admittedly, his image as a free-wheeling flower-child took a knock when his song Little Yellow Spider was used in a ubiquitous, and maddeningly twee, Orange ad.

Banhart’s new album Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon is out 25 September, and finds the beardy 26-year-old in no hurry to tone down his idiosyncrasies for mass acceptance. You can preview the whole album, including delicate stand-out track Cristobel, on his Myspace page here.

Capturing City's Rock Icons

Photographer Ian Tilton has captured some world-famous images in his time.

From iconic shots of rocker Iggy Pop almost kicking the camera out of his hands to Morrissey having his shirt torn to shreds, his stills take a proud place in rock history.

And now the Northern Quarter's Stroon gallery is showcasing shots from the 43-year-old's rich portfolio.

They include images from his vast archive of Manchester's influential quartet The Stone Roses and never-seen-before shots of a fresh-faced Oasis.

The Roses are fondly remembered as one of Manchester's most influential and exciting bands.

They were for a long time hailed in hushed tones as the saviours of British music before it ended in tears when the band imploded in 1996.

But Tilton's shots capture a sullen, boyish-looking outfit at the start of their careers.

"My job is all about getting the atmosphere across and I think they do that. They capture the fashions of the time," he said.

"And the band were great - they would always come to me with ideas - they always wanted to do things differently."

The shots appear alongside images of a similarly youthful Oasis at the Thomas Street exhibition.

They capture Liam, Noel, Bonehead and Guigsy performing at a city centre bar in 1993 - months before they exploded into the mainstream.

"It was at a place I think called the Canal Bar just down the road from the Hacienda," said Ian.

"There were about 30 people there and lots of room. I think they show that Liam always had the swagger if not the fashion sense.

There's even a shot of him coming off stage with spit on the front of his jumper!"

But the display stretches further a field than Manchester.

Also on show will be shots of American band Nirvana. The early 90s outfit are credited with being the fathers of the grunge movement and sold over 50 million albums. Their run ended in tragedy in 1994 when frontman Kurt Cobain committed suicide.

And one of Tilton's more powerful shots on display, voted the sixth best rock image of all-time in a top music magazine, captures the troubled icon in tears with his head in his hands after a high-energy performance.

Moyles Mocks Vodafone Awards No-Shows

Radio 1 star Chris Moyles mocked the lack of celebrities at the Vodafone Live Music Awards during last night's ceremony.

The breakfast show DJ was presenting the show held at Brompton Hall, West London and he openly joked about the fact that many musicians had chosen to attend the MOBO Awards, which were also taking place yesterday, instead.

After Oasis failed to turn up to collect their Best DVD gong, Moyles said: "They're not here, they'll be at the f****** MOBOs."

The Greatest Britpop Band Revealed

Thousands of you voted and the results are in now for your top 20 Britpop bands of all time.

At first it looked as though Shed Seven were going to steal it thanks to their hardcore fanbase, but in the end two giants of the era took their lead in the battle for number one.

There’s plenty of surprises in there too – a certain Sheffield band are a bit further down the list than many would have hoped, while another Mod outfit have been propelled into the top five.

20: Kula Shaker
19: Echobelly
18: Cast
17: Sleeper
16: Gene
15: Northern Uproar
14: Menswear
13: The Bluetones
12: Dodgy
11: The Boo Radleys
10: Elastica
09: The Charlatans
08: James
07: Suede
06: Supergrass
05: Pulp
04: Ocean Colour Scene
03: Shed Seven
02: Blur
01: Oasis - Oasis provided the rock, the roll, the cocaine, the women, the booze, the countless tabloid column inches – and are rightfully the fans’ choice for number one. They may have lost out to Blur in the battle for number one in the summer of 1995, but with the phenomenally huge ‘What’s The Story (Morning Glory)?’, the Gallaghers were the ultimate winners.

Noel Gallagher Has Hit The Studio

The radio station that is....

With the band working on their seventh studio album with producer Dave Sardy, the Oasis leader has turned his hand to DJing and recently recorded an hour-long show for Radio 1's 40th birthday and NME has heard a sneak preview.

"Radio 1 is 40 years old, as am I," said Noel. "If you think about it. I'm a visual representation on how the station would look."

He added that he was surprised how much things had changed since Oasis' first visit "Jo Whiley had Doc Martens on and I remember thinking, 'the bird's in Doc Martens' - she's anything but a Doc Marten-wearer now!"

Noel's show is broadcast on September 24 between 9-10pm.

Arctic Monkeys (26) and Paul Weller (20) among the other guest DJs.
