Oasis watch as band pack out the Astoria

The Coral made their live London return last night, packing out the Astoria and treating them to a concoction of previous hits and new songs.

Watched by the whole of Oasis, James Skelly bounded on stage brandishing his maracas, before simply introducing the band with "Hello, we're The Coral."

The band dived headfirst into tunes from their debut self-titled album, including 'Spanish Main', 'Simon Diamond' and 'Goodbye'.

The band also played tracks from 2003's chart-topping 'Magic And Medicine', including the singles 'Don't Think You're The First' and 'Pass It On'.

New songs from the forthcoming 'Roots And Echoes' album were simply introduced and rapturously received by the swelling crowd, and included new single 'Who's Gonna Find Me' in addition to 'Jacqueline' and 'In The Rain'.

Briefly addressing the rising temperature of the venue, Skelly exclaimed "It's fucking hot!" before rewarding fans with 'Dreaming Of You' and 'In The Morning'.

The band quickly returned to the stage, the encore consisting of 'I Remember When' and 'Bill McCai'.

Support came in the form of Kate Nash, who graced the stage earlier on in the evening.

Radio 2 Celebrates Sgt Pepper's 40th With A Little Help From...Oasis

To mark Radio 2’s 40th anniversary of the Beatles’ seminal album “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” Oasis have recorded a version of the George Harrison penned classic “Within You, Without You”.

The track’s producer is Geoff Emerick, engineer on the original album. He used the same four-track mixing desk and tape machine to record the track in Abbey Road’s Studio 2, where the original song was also recorded. A Radio 2 documentary on the re-recording of all tracks from Sgt. Pepper’s is available on the BBC website link below. Oasis are just one of the acts contributing towards the re-recordings from the album, along with Stereophonics, Libertines, Razorlight, Zutons and others.

Hooky Still Needs A Singer

Manchester supergroup Freebase are considering drastic action to find a new lead singer

The group, made up of legendary bassists Andy Rourke, ex of The Smiths, Mani, ex of The Stone Roses and Peter Hook, now ex of New Order, had been joined on vocals by a guy called "Rich" from Wigan - but he has parted company with the band.

And while the bassists have recruited a raft of celebrity big hitters for their planned album to sing - including The Charlatans' Tim Burgess, Primal Scream's Bobby Gillespie and Oasis' Liam Gallagher, they still need a full time vocalist.

Hooky says: "I might have to do one of those Pop Idol things - Indie Idol, where the hopefuls would have to be obnoxious, drunk, fall out of clubs, be a complete reprobate - that's what I'm looking for, I don't care whether they can sing or not - it's all about image."

He laughs: "I don't think it'd be very good for the kids though. Maybe I won't put that idea forward to Granada."

Noel In Album Talks With Spidey's Super-Producer

Noel Gallagher will meet top producer Dave Sardy in London on Friday to discuss the next Oasis album.

I can reveal the LA-based knob-twiddler is flying in from the US especially to talk with the Oasis axeman.

Noel, 40, was top draw at Monday's Mojo Awards at The Brewery in London.

While many of the attendees were closer to collecting their buss pass than a gong, Noel looked every inch the rock legend he is.

Speaking about the new Oasis music he revealed: "We start talking about the new album on Friday.

"I've got 17 songs ready everybody else has three or four each f**k knows when it'll be out - 2010. Don't hold your breath."

However the follow-up to 2005's Don't Believe The Truth looks set to come sooner rather then later because of this meeting.

Sardy produced the immense return to form collection last time around and has stayed in close contact with Noel.

Since then he has crafted the Spiderman 3 and Casino Royale soundtracks, plus studio collections from Wolfmother and Jet - who play Hard Rock's Hyde Park Calling in London this weekend. If both sides were to team up again I reckon it'd be a record entirely worth waiting for.

Noel partied at the Mojo's aftershow with his stunning pregnant girlfriend Sara MacDonald, 31.

She was glowing with the first flushes of pre-motherhood.

Jesting Noel said the pair have been discussing names for the baby.

And he claimed:"I'm thinking of Genghis, Ghandi or Goliath for the kid.

"Something with a G has got a ring to it."

I think he was joking.

One topic the Manc guitarist did admit to pulling a leg over was buying his beloved football team Manchester City.

Noel declared: "That was a joke. If I did have 90million quid I'd buy myself an aeroplane."

Top Man.

Truckin Mad Fer It

Boozed-up Noel Gallagher showed he's still mad fer it as he climbed on a clamping truck after the Mojo Awards do.

The merry 40-year-old Oasis star then waved peace signs to smiling passers-by. Earlier he downed free drinks at the music mag's bash in East London's Brewery venue where he presented the Les Paul award to Fleetwood Mac guitar legend Peter Green.

Rocker Noel Is On The Wagon

Noel Gallagher may be a legendary caner but he was quick to try to jump on this wagon at 4am yesterday after a booze-up with Kasabian's Serge Pizzorno.

The Oasis star began at the Mojo awards in London, took in Coral gig and ended at Soho House via the Groucho Club.

Shame he missed the Mojo afterparty, Amy Winehouse and Bjork became best pals after challenging each other to a game of pool. Now that’s what I call rock ’n’ roll.

Noel Gallagher Slams Lack Of Guitar Heroes

Noel Gallagher is dissatisfied with the dearth of good current guitarists.

Before presenting Peter Green with the Les Paul guitarists' prize at Mojo Honours, Gallagher told Teletext: "My favourite recent guitarist would be any of the ones in The Coral, especially Bill Ryder-Jones. He's brilliant.

"But there's not many to choose from. The age of the guitar hero has been dead for a while, you know?"

Soap Star Would Love To Play Liam Gallagher In Biopic

Rob James-Collier would love to play Liam Gallagher in a biopic film of his life.

The 'Coronation Street' star - who plays Underworld factory boss Liam Connor - is a huge Oasis fan and thinks he looks similar to his hero.

Rob told Britain's Soaplife magazine: "Before I come on Corrie some people though I was a bit like Liam so if there's a film of him I'd love to do it.

I love early Oasis."

But the 28-year-old may have trouble getting into character as he does not share the 'Mad Fer It' Manchunian's two greatest skills - singing and fighting.

Rob said: "I can't sing and I can't dance. Just the thought of it scares me.

"And I'm the softest lad you'll ever meet!

"When it comes to fights I'm a runner. When in doubt - get out!"

The sexy soap star - who scooped the Sexiest Male Award at this year's British Soap Awards - is currently dating a fashion designer, but has promised to keep her identity a secret.

He said: "She says she doesn't want jealous girls coming looking for her!

"I think she's bigging me up a bit there!"

A Reminder For Oasis Fans Going To Glastonbury

Lucky Oasis fans at Glastonbury Festival will be amongst the first to have a chance to see the full-length (94 minute) version of the band’s documentary tour film, “Lord Don’t Slow Me Down”, when it is screened at 2am on Sunday 24th June on the massive outdoor screen on the festival site.

“Lord Don’t Slow Me Down” was directed by renowned promo director Baillie Walsh, and compiled from a year’s filming with the band on their mammoth “Don’t Believe The Truth” world tour 2005/6. It follows one of the world’s greatest rock ‘n’ roll bands behind the scenes and in front of the fans, across the globe. With unique access to the band throughout the tour, “Lord Don’t Slow Me Down” is the ultimate Oasis documentary and a must see for fans.

This will be one of the only opportunities this year to see the film prior to its release later this year on dvd, and the next best thing to having the band play live at the festival.

Oasis Prepare To Enter The Studio

But warn fans not to hold their breath…

Oasis have revealed that they will begin work on their new album next month.

According to the band’s guitarist, Noel Gallagher, the Manchester band will enter the studio on July 3rd.

Gallagher has warned fans, however, that the follow-up to 2005’s, ‘Don’t Believe The Truth,’ might not hit the shelves for a while.

He told the BBC: “The songs are written... but don't hold your breath because the last album took three-and-half-years and three goes.”

"It would be great if it was done by the end of the year and we could get out on the road by next summer, but that's insane wishful thinking."

Fiancee Sara MacDonald is due to give birth in September and Oasis legend Noel, 40, told us: "We don't know what we're having. I don't see the point in finding out. It ruins the surprise.

"I've got a daughter Anais, seven, so while another girl would be nice a boy would be great.

"I'd love him to be a musician like his dad."

On This Day In Oasis History

"Stop Crying Your Heart Out" is a song by British rock band Oasis. It was released as the second single from Heathen Chemistry on 17 June 2002, peaking at number two in the UK charts. It went silver in the UK.

The song is an "epic weepy" anthem in the spirit of "Don't Look Back in Anger", reassuringly advising that in times of hardship, simply get over it and get on with your life. Noel Gallagher explained the song saying "A friend of mine was going through a pretty bad time with his kids and I sort of wrote it with him in mind.".

Noel Gallagher had high expectations for the song, saying "I hope it does for us what 'Don't Look Back In Anger' did... I didn't want it as a single because I thought we'd done all that before, but everyone's going, 'You're fucking mad.'" It appears Gallagher's hopes were well founded, as the song received a warm response from the critics. NME said, with regards to the album " 'Stop Crying Your Heart Out' [is where] you really start rolling out the red carpet. A return to the long lost humanism of 'Don't Look Back In Anger', it's a reminder of Noel's uncanny knack of cheering up his audience just when they need it most." Q magazine held up the song as proof that "genius never completely left Oasis".

"Stop Crying Your Heart Out" was one of the songs played during the end credits of the movie, The Butterfly Effect, starring Ashton Kutcher and Amy Smart. The song also appeared after England's defeats in the 2002 Football World Cup and the 2006-07 Ashes. Noel Gallagher dedicated it to the English football team before playing it at the 2004 Glastonbury Festival.

McCartney's Prank On Gallagher

Sir Paul McCartney tried to get rock pal Noel Gallagher arrested for shoplifting when he spotted the Oasis star browsing in the same London department store recently.

Songwriter Gallagher was shocked to bump into the rock legend, and grateful security staff didn't take the former Beatle seriously.

He says, "I bumped into Paul in Selfridges. I was in the menswear department and I heard someone say quite loud 'watch him, shoplifter'.

I looked round and it was MCCartney. I hadn't seen him for a while and we had a chat."
