Aisle Seats For Liam And Nicole

Lovebirds Liam Gallagher and Nicole Appleton jetted to the States with relatives yesterday – sparking rumours of a secret wedding.

The couple’s six-year-old son Gene and the OASIS frontman’s other lad Lennon, nine, were on the Orlando flight from Gatwick with members of Nic’s family.

Nicole, 32, said recently she wanted to tie the knot with Liam, 35. It is believed several possible venues have been organised for a low-key US bash.

Shack On Noel Gallagher

We met a few times before, mainly at Coral gigs I think, we must both have good taste. We chatted and I told him about doing work on "The Corner of Miles and Gil" album and he asked us to sign to his label, Sourmash, as well as supporting Oasis at Finsbury Park, which was a hell of a gig.

Being signed to Sourmash is really good for us; we have artistic freedom whilst still having the stability in working within a sensible budget and I think it showed on "Miles and Gil", as it was our most focused collection to date.

Oasis Join Digital Revolution

Rock band Oasis have joined the digital revolution in the music industry by releasing their first download-only single.

Noel Gallagher sings the vocals on the new single.

Following Radiohead’s digital album release last week, the Manchester group have made “Lord Don’t Slow Me Down” exclusively available from their website Oasisinet.com, either as a single track or as a package with two live performances - Don't Look Back In Anger and The Meaning Of Soul.

However, unlike Radiohead’s In Rainbows, they are charging a fixed price, with the single costing 99p and the three-track bundle £1.50.

The single shares its name with a documentary film of their 2005/6 world tour, which is scheduled to be released on DVD at the end of October.

Despite their ongoing popularity, critics of the band argue that in the last few years, Oasis have failed to hit the creative heights of their early albums. So what do reviewers make of their new venture into cyberspace?

John Murphy at MusicOMH.com thinks the single is a return to form, describing it as a “cracking little tune” and even though he feels it is “nothing radical”, when it is “cranked to full volume it sounds superb”.

Mark Wilkins at ClickMusic.com agrees. ”It’s three minutes of pure out-and-out rock and roll” he enthuses, adding “It's what we love them for, it's why we still care”.

However, Amir at the BBC.co.uk collective is not so convinced. “It sounds exactly the same as every 'heavy' single Oasis have released since Go Let It Out” he complains.

Personally, I like “Lord Don’t Slow Me Down” a lot. It has none of the clinical, slightly cynical edge their more recent work has displayed, instead turning out a brash sound that is far more raw and emotive. And for a first download-only single, it is pleasingly, amusingly low-fi.

For me, I have always felt that Oasis never quite reached the foot-stomping, head-shaking delirium of Blur (Where is their Song 2, for example?), yet this goes some way to showing they still have the capability.

Liam Gallagher's Weddy To Get Hitched

Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher is set to wed Nicole Appleton this week.

It was rumoured the couple had already got hitched in secret over the weekend.

But he filed for the wedding in Camden on October 10 and, under law, he must wait 15 days to marry in case anyone objects.

The lairy Manc has been with Nicole since 2000 and they have a 6-year-old son together, Gene.
Liam was previously married to Patsy Kensit.

Let's hope no one objects to the marriage, ahem, Robbie Williams...

Rhys Ifans' New Band 'Peth' Leaves Noel Gallagher Quaking In His Boots

Rhys Ifans meanwhile revealed that he's been making music of his own. He's formed a band called the Peth (it's Welsh for 'thing', apparently) with Super Furry Animals drummer Dafydd Ieuan, and together they've prepared a 15-track album for release.

'I played it to Noel Gallagher last night and the boy's quaking in his boots,' he said. 'It's wild rock music and I do the singing. I play a bit of guitar, too, but I'm not very good. Just good enough to get laid from a distance.'

Eight Venues And Seven Different Dates . . . Liam Gallagher's Way Of Keeping His Wedding Secret

Oasis star Liam Gallagher has given eight different locations and seven possible dates to keep his wedding to girlfriend Nicole Appleton a secret.

The couple posted their wedding banns at Camden Register Office in London, but a source said: "They have not even told friends and family of where they plan to get married or even when.

"They want to have a totally private affair with no photographers and they have registered all these different locations and dates to throw the paparazzi off the scent."

The possible venues named in the banns include the five-star Claridges hotel in Mayfair, Nunsmere Hotel Hall, a country house surrounded by its own lake in Cheshire, Camden Register Office and Marylebone Town Hall.

The banns mean the first date the pair can legally get married is next Saturday.

But the source added: "They have arranged six other dates as well as the different locations to make doubly sure they don't get rumbled."

There had been speculation that Liam and All Saints singer Nicole were tying the knot yesterday.

But when the Oasis frontman – dressed in combat trousers and a black beanie-style woollen hat – was approached at their £3million home in Primrose Hill, North London, he said: "Do I look like I have just got married, mate?"

Asked about the banns, he smiled and added: "It's not me – you must have some other fella."

A Camden Council spokesperson said: "They specified a date in the next two weeks and will get married at one of the locations. All councils have a regional list of registers and it is public record and by law all names are on a list."

A spokesman for Claridges said he would 'neither confirm nor deny' that the hotel was the venue for the wedding.

And a spokesman for Nunsmere Hall said there were no weddings taking place at the hotel on Saturday.

Liam married his first wife, actress Patsy Kensit, at Marylebone Register Office in April 1997, but they split up three years later.

Oasis Frontman To Wed On Saturday?

Oasis star Liam Gallagher will exchange vows with All Saints singer Nicole Appleton in a surprise ceremony on Saturday (20Oct07), according to British tabloid reports. The couple announced their intentions to wed earlier this month (Oct07) after a seven-year romance.

But newspaper the Daily Mirror claims the wedding will take place on Saturday - one week before their originally planned date of 26 October (07).

Earlier this week (ends19Oct07), an exited Appleton hinted at her plans for a low-key ceremony, saying: "It's important to me and I love the idea of being married. A few of my friends are getting married and it's such a stress. It becomes like a circus and people don't dare mention the w-word."

It will be the first marriage for Appleton, who is mother to the rocker's six-year-old son Gene. Gallagher divorced actress Patsy Kensit in 2000.

Oasis - Lord Don't Slow Me Down Track Review (Big Brother)

Hard to believe that it's over a decade now that Oasis have been in our lives. General consensus runs that they've never reached the heights of their first two albums, and of course, general consensus is spot on. Yet occasionally, they can knock off a cracking little tune like this one.

Lord Don't Slow Me Down is Oasis' first ever download-only single, but they've certainly not gone all Radiohead on us. Weirdly, this sounds more like the White Stripes than anything, stomping bar-room blues with Noel taking lead vocals. It's nothing radical, but cranked up to full volume it sounds superb.

With even Noel himself admitting the song's somewhat throwaway (it was originally meant to be on the band's last album, but was dropped at the last minute), it also means that it come as a pleasant surprise to most fans, having no ridiculously high expectations to live up. The forthcoming DVD of the same name should be the usual riotously entertaining stuff.

Oasis Star To Marry

Liam Gallagher is marrying his long-term All Saints girlfriend Nicole Appleton today.

The showbiz couple, who have been together for nearly eight years, were keen to keep the wedding quiet.

Liam's brother Noel will be at the small gathering, as well as Nicole's sister Natalie and her husband Liam Howlett of the Prodigy.

Speaking exclusively to the Mirror, Nicole, 32, said: "It's important to me and I love the idea of being married."

"A few of my friends are getting married and it's such a stress.

"It becomes like a circus and people don't dare mention the w-word."

Nicole has been credited with taming the Oasis wildman.

She said: "When I see him strutting on to the stage I don't recognise him."

"He's like a lion tamer and with a crack of the whip he controls the fans.

"He can't do that to me. At home, I'm the lion tamer. Definitely."

There is every chance of a brother or sister for the couple's son Gene, six.

Nicole, who had an abortion when she was engaged to Robbie Williams in the late 90s, told the Mirror: "I'd like to have more kids but we haven't got any immediate plans.

"I love being a mum and I'm very happy with my little boy.

"I don't want to take any time or attention away from him."

With Nicole by his side, it seems Liam has put his party days behind him and prefers to watch reality TV at their North London home.

She said: "He loves X Factor and really got into Hell's Kitchen. We love those kind of shows - Big Brother, Strictly Come Dancing, Jeremy Kyle."

Liam, 35, divorced Emmerdale and Holby star Patsy Kensit, the mother of his son Lennon, eight, in 2000.

He also has a daughter, Molly, nine, with singer Lisa Moorish.

Nicole said: "Liam is the best daddy in the world.

"He does the school run every day and would do anything for the kids."

Meanwhile Nicole is busy with her new role for ITV Mobile.

She joins fellow All Saints member Mel Blatt, Emma Griffiths and Dave Berry travelling the country with The Hot Desk interviewing celebs from the world of music, film, TV and sport.

Mobile phone users can download the service free and access a bank of in-depth interviews with stars.

Nicole said: "It's going to be great to be the interviewer for a change."

She also revealed Liam and Noel are getting on better these days after years of bickering.

Nicole said: "Everything's great between them. Noel's new baby Donovan is gorgeous.

"His cousins adore him. It's one big happy family."

Oasis Find The "Lord" On New Single, Documentary DVD

It's been a minute since last we heard from those exemplars of reserve Oasis. Of course, isn't that always the case? Every few years, they throw some big hooks and swirling choruses down on wax, collect the requisite "best record since Be Here Now" pullquotes, slag off whoever's big at the moment (I can hear it now: "That Kanye kook's a real wanker, innit?"), tour a bit, punch a dude, and step off for a few more years. Hey, whatever works.

Annnnd Oasis are back! With a new single and a new(ish) DVD that share a title! They're both called Lord Don't Slow Me Down, and we shall discuss the previously Forkcasted single first. You'll be able to have and to hold that sweet "Lord" October 21, though only via digital outlets. So goes the Beatles goes Oasis, I suppose.

Then there's the Universal-issued DVD: it's a tour documentary that screened in select theaters last year, it features a commentary track from Liam, Noel, Andy, and Gem, and for a limited time, it'll come with a bonus disc with 16 tracks culled from a July 2005 show at City of Manchester Stadium. That thing'll drop November 6.

As for those always-tentative future plans? No tour as such, but a full-length is planned for next year. Word on the street is, it's the best one since Don't Believe the Truth.

Blender Pulps Worst Rock Lyricists

Sting has topped a compilation of 40 artists and been labelled the Worst Rock Lyricist in US magazine Blender.

The Police front man was awarded the title for what the magazine described as his "mountainous pomposity, cloying spirituality (and) ham-handed metaphors".

Slammed for Shakespeare references, name-dropping and quoting a Volvo bumper sticker (If you love someone set them free), according to the magazine Sting's songwriting talent has also been marred by his Cold War reference.

NOVA 100 program director Todd Campbell said he couldn't argue with Sting's No 1 rating.

"I realised when I ran for the dictionary one time after hearing Sting sing about Mephistopheles that they're probably right," he said.

FOX FM music director Scott Baker-Smith said while the Police were a great band, their lyrics were often questionable.

"He's in between that really corny, lovey-dovey stuff, and then he's trying to be completely whimsical on the other end," he said.

Canadian soft-rock king Bryan Adams narrowly made it on to the list at spot 37, described by Blender as a generic singer who was overloaded with metaphors, citing lyrics "She's black coffee, little bit of cream/ Sweet brown sugar, my midnight dream/ Black pearl, my kinda girl/ Just the kinda thing to rock my world."

Noel Gallagher's placement at No 4 was controversial for both Oasis lovers and haters.

Campbell said Gallagher didn't deserve to be on the list -- especially only three spots away from Sting.

But Baker-Smith disagreed.

"Musically he was never original," he said.

"I love Oasis and I think their unoriginality is probably their strong suit but I get a really strong sense that their words just have to fit with the music."

Other controversial rankings were Jim Morrison at No 10 for The Unknown Soldier lyrics, and Larry Henley and Jeff Silbar at No 11 for their Wind Beneath My Wings lyrics.

Jon Bon Jovi was ranked at No 22 with "My heart is like an open highway/Like Frankie said, I did it my way" and the Red Hot Chili Pepper's Anthony Kiedis came in at No 40 for his lyrics "Intercourse with a porpoise/Is a dream for me."

Q&A: Tom Clarke Of The Enemy

Tom Clarke, lead singer with The Enemy, talks to Ed Power about reaching number one, meeting The Stones and that feud with DJ Alex Zane

How did you come to work with Oasis producer Owen Morris?

"We're massive Oasis fans. If you think about it, they're the last great rock 'n' roll band. The only ones to have since come even close are Kasabian and Muse. But that had nothing to do with it -- Owen's wife was really into us, which is how we got in contact."
