NME's Cool List Is Full Of OAPs

NME’s annual list of the world’s 50 coolest people is its oldest ever.

Forty-somethings dominate the music mag’s rankings — with the total age a grand 1,389.

The list includes former Stone Roses singer Ian Brown, 44, Prince, 49, and Oasis star Noel Gallagher and Radiohead's Thom Yorke, both 40.

Rolling Stones legend Keith Richards, 63, rose 16 places to 10 after confessing to snorting his dad’s ashes.

Brit punk singer Frank Carter, 23, topped the list while Amy Winehouse, 24, was eighth for keeping her “beehive in place” in a drug-ravaged year.

Liam Gallagher Party's With Kate Moss And Friends Until 4.30am

The Primrose Hill lot were out in force on Monday night, presumably staying ahead of the pack by trying to make it their new Saturday.

It all started with those high-living stalwarts Kate Moss, 33, and Davina Taylor at the Clifton pub near Abbey Road in north London.

There they were joined by Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher, 35, no doubt drawn in by the famous Beatles landmark - but left ahead of him to head back to 29-year-old Davina's gaff.

He followed and when Kate's new fella, Jamie Hinch, 39, arrived with a guitar a party was born.

Liam Gallagher stayed at the party until 4.30am

Noel Gallagher is a new entry at number 16 in this years chart.

16 - Noel Gallagher, Oasis

Not that we should have to qualify his position in the list: It's Noel Gallagher.

The Top 10

09 - Beth Ditto, The Gossip
08 - Amy Winehouse
07 - Kate Nash

Oasis - Lord Don't Slow Me Down Single Review

Oasis

Lord Don't Slow Me Down
Single Review

The Gallagher's have seemingly jumped on the band wagon in the shape of a "Download Single" OR the official story that Lord Don't Slow Me Down has been released to promote their DVD. So here is the real truth behind the track (or is it?) Lord Don't Slow Me Down was didn't fit within the last album, so naturally as soon as there was an opportunity to release it in some shape or form this seemed the ideal time.

The new Single to come from Oasis Lord Don't Slow Me Down is a Noel singing track so little brother Liam is just waving his tambourine around just so he feels part of the track. The one thing that does stand out is that it would have fitted in with the last album. Everything about it has that feel to it. This could of even been one of those tracks they would play to give Liam a breather and shine the limelight onto the rest of the band members.

There is always one thing about Oasis and that is once the first chord is played you recognise that it is them straight away. What ever the reasoning behind the latest release (Don't forget though there is a new edition in Noel's household) it is still Oasis showing that they are still around and have no intention of slowing down.

'Who Art You' takes the viewer through The Who's trademark bullseye, and the Mod and Pop Art movements, as The Who's 1960s journey to become a band as visual as they were musical is explored. 'Who's Back', the sixth part, shows The Who when they returned to the studio in 2003 to record 'Real Good Looking Boy'.

Today Oasis release 'Lord Don't Slow Me Down' on DVD.

What happens when a film maker follows one of the world’s biggest bands on a year long world tour? What happens when the film maker is granted unique access to that band, is present for the ups and downs, the moments of greatness and the periods of the same interview in 10 different languages in as many days? What happens when that band is Oasis, travelling across 26 countries on their biggest world tour to date playing to a total of over 2 million people?

The answer is ‘Lord Don’t Slow Me Down’, a double DVD set that not only gives you the definitive feature length documentary seen in selected cinemas last year, but also the option of voice over commentaries from the band, a Noel Gallagher Q & A session with fans from New York City, out takes from the film, and a second 90 minute bonus disc capturing the band’s homecoming show at the City of Manchester Stadium together with footage sent in by fans from around the world who attended that show. If you wanted to know what the members of Oasis make of their lives on tour and their audience, then the answers are on these two discs.

Directed by Baillie Walsh who has previously worked with Massive Attack (he made ‘Safe From Harm’), Spiritualised, New Order and Kylie’s Slow, and is now working on a film with Daniel Craig, this DVD set is a compendium of Oasis entertainment par excellence.

‘Lord Don’t Slow Me Down’ contents:

Last week Noel Gallagher talked to 6 Music about progress on the next album.

The band are heading back to Abbey Road studios on 05 November (today) to get stuck in to album number seven:

"We done a few tracks in Abbey Road about - seems like an age ago now - about six weeks ago. And then we've taken six weeks off for me to get acquainted with my new son: the future of British music.

"And then we start back in Abbey Road a week on Monday, (05 Nov) if anyone's interested, and then we'll probably work through a couple of months there, have Christmas off, then go and mix it and see where we're at."

Apathy In Politics Is A Pox Threatening The Future Of Our Proud Country. The Solution? Noel Gallagher In No 10...

ON TONY BLAIR "It was a big deal, the landslide and all that, and everybody got carried away. We thought it was going to be John F Kennedy and for a year or two it was. Unfortunately for this Labour Government, they are going to be saddled with the Iraq war and nobody can get around that."

ON LABOUR "Politics is like football for me. Labour is my team and even if you don't like a striker you don't give up supporting the whole team."

ON THE US "Whenever there is a conservative, Bible-waving half-wit ruling in the White House - whether it's Bush, his father or Reagan - there is war."

ON BARONESS THATCHER "It annoys me that the biggest political icon from the last 30 years has been Margaret Thatcher, someone who tried to destroy the working class... it freaks me out you know."

ON DAVID CAMERON "It's like a songwriter who's eternally ripping off someone else's song and just changing the odd line a little."

ON PETE DOHERTY "Pete's always been an absolute gentleman to me and my missus. He's incredibly well-read and he's got a good soul. I tell you what, he needs to wash his hands more, but that's about it."

ON FAME "When we started off, we wanted the girls, the cocaine, the fur coats. It wasn't like it was an act; it was almost like working-class people winning the pools. We went bananas."

ON STALKERS "Next year I hope to get a stalker or two because I don't believe you've arrived until you get a stalker."

ON DRUGS "I liked drugs, I was good at them."

ON GIVING THEM UP "After you make the decision it is quite easy. And I am quite proud of the fact that I didn't have to check into one of those dodgy clinics."

ON 1993-1998 "I can hardly remember a thing."

ON PLAYING THE GUITAR "I've never considered myself a very good guitarist. I always end up playing the same guitar solo over different songs, and hoping no one will notice."

ON RELIGION "I hope we mean more to people than putting money in a church basket. Has God played Knebworth lately?"

ON FAME IN AMERICA "I could walk out the hotel and probably stand in the middle of Broadway naked and everyone would go, 'Ah, who's he'?"

ON MONEY "I've got everything I want. I could go and buy two of everything now - that just gets boring."

ON HAPPINESS "Listen, I've got £87m in the bank. I've got a Rolls Royce. I've got three stalkers. I'm about to go on the board at Manchester City. I'm part of the greatest band in the world. Am I happy with that? No I'm not! I want more!"

ON OASIS "We just believe we're the best band in the world. We're not arrogant, that's just a fact."

ON LIAM "He is Abbott to my Costello, he is Cannon to my Ball, he is Little to my Large."

ON ROBBIE WILLIAMS "He's a fuckin' circus monkey!"

ON HIMSELF "I'm not like John Lennon, who thought he was the great Almighty. I just think I'm John Lennon.

ON BOOZE "I know I've got Irish blood because I wake up every day with a fuckin' hangover.

ON FATHER CHRISTMAS "I was on the verge of saying to my daughter, 'There is no Father Christmas' - I'm looking forward to breaking the news in about two years."

ON FATHERHOOD "I'm kind of like most dads. I love kids, but I struggle with the responsibility."

ON PHILOSOPHY "Progression is going forwards. Going backwards is regression. Going sideways is just aggression."

ON RECEIVING A GONG "It is hard to be modest at times like these so I won't even try... you are all shite."

ON PAUL McCARTNEY "Paul McCartney, one of the best songwriters of all time, has only produced manure for the past 25 years."

ON KYLIE "Kylie Minogue is just a demonic little idiot as far as I'm concerned. She gets cool dance producers to work with her for some bizarre reason, I don't know why. She doesn't even have a good name. It's a stupid name, Kylie, I just don't get it."

ON GEORGE MICHAEL "He's now trying to make social comment, this is the guy who hid who he actually was from the public for 20 years. Now, all of a sudden, he's got something to say about the way of the world. I find it laughable. That's even before you get to the song, which is diabolical."

ON MICHAEL JACKSON "I respected him when he was proper artist before he started getting into all this cosmetic surgery shit. When he was in the Jackson Five, he was a genius. Now he's just a fuckin' freak, man."

ON HIP HOP "I despise hip hop. Loathe it. Eminem is an idiot and I find 50 Cent the most distasteful character I have ever crossed in my life. I just don't like the dragging women around on dog leads and all that stuff. I'm not fucking having that."

ON BRITNEY SPEARS"'Hit Me Baby One More Time' is a classic tune, but she didn't write it, she just mimed it on telly a few times. I don't get the Britney thing."

ON LIVE8 Correct me if I am wrong, but are they hoping that one of these guys from the G8 is on a quick 15-minute break at Gleneagles and sees Annie Lennox singing 'Sweet Dreams' and thinks, 'Fuck me, she might have a point there, you know'. It's not going to fucking happen, is it?"

ON HIS OWN WORK "'Wonderwall' - that's virtually every bird between the ages of 30 and 36's favourite fucking song... 'Live Forever', in 1994. That changed everything. Before that everything sounded indie."

ON THE POSSIBILITY OF LIFE ON OTHER PLANETS "If I saw an alien, I'd tell it to fuck right off because whatever planet he came from they wouldn't have the Beatles or any decent fucking music... I ain't going nowhere with them."

Now that is a manifesto. Noel Gallagher - a living legend. We salute you.

On This Day In Oasis History...

The Masterplan is a compilation album by English rock band Oasis, comprising B-sides which never made it onto an album. It was first released on November 2 1998. The Masterplan reached #2 in the UK where it went platinum, and #51 in the United States. However, it did gain top spot in various charts around the world, going on to sell in excess of 2 million copies. Four songs from the album appear on compilation album Stop the Clocks.

The album was originally meant to be only released in areas such as the United States, where it was only possible to find the tracks on European import singles which can be very expensive.

01: Acquiesce
02: Underneath The Sky
03: Talk Tonight
04: Going Nowhere
05: Fade Away
06: Swamp Song
07: I Am The Walrus [Live]
08: Listen Up
09: Rockin' Chair
10: Half The World Away
11: It's Good To Be Free
12: Stay Young
13: Headshrinker
14: The Masterplan

The versions of "Listen Up" and "I Am the Walrus" are edits of their original releases on the "Cigarettes & Alcohol" single. "Listen Up" has 8 bars edited out during the guitar solo (4:3–4:39). "I Am the Walrus", with a fade-out, finishes at 6:25, whereas the original runs fully to a natural conclusion at 8:14.

"I Am the Walrus" was given its correct recording location and date on the sleevenotes. On its original release on the "Cigarettes & Alcohol" single, the location listed was the Glasgow Cathouse, in June 1994. However, in promotional interviews for The Masterplan, Noel revealed that it was actually recorded at the soundcheck for a gig at a Sony Music seminar at Gleneagles, Scotland, in February 1994. He said the credit was changed because he thought "recorded at a Sony seminar" would "look shit".

Chris Griffiths was given a co-writing credit for "Rockin' Chair". On its original release on the "Roll with It" single in 1995, Noel Gallagher was credited as the sole songwriter.

"Acquiesce" was released as a radio single in the United States, and a promotional video was created for this purpose. It consisted of a live performance of the song from Manchester's G-MEX, recorded on 14 December 1997, and various bits of behind-the-scenes footage of the band on tour. For the video, both Liam's and Noel's vocal tracks were overdubbed over the originals recorded live in Manchester.

All of the B-sides from the "Cigarettes & Alcohol", "Whatever" and "Some Might Say" singles appear on this album.
