It seems Liverpool is capital of celebration for this rock’n’roll star.
Noel Gallagher spent the weekend in the city celebrating his 41st birthday in style.
The Oasis guitarist brought a posse of mates from London to stay at the Hope Street Hotel and eat at the London Carriage Works and pal Jamie Carragher’s Cafe Sports England, before going for a stroll down Mathew Street.
“The Beatles were better than we'll ever be,” says the mono-browed Mancunian. “I think they were a far more innovative band than we'll ever be. The Beatles are still my heroes.”
Noel has always been a fan of the city’s music scene. He snapped up Shack for his Sour Mash record label, championed Howie Payne and donated his recording studio for free so The Coral could make their last album.
And he’s not averse to playing a surprise gig or two in town, having played a small concert at the Zanzibar as a favour to friends The Bandits.
It just goes to show – who needs Manchester when you’ve got Liverpool?
