City Oasis For Top Pop Superstar Noel Gallagher

It seems Liverpool is capital of celebration for this rock’n’roll star.

Noel Gallagher spent the weekend in the city celebrating his 41st birthday in style.

The Oasis guitarist brought a posse of mates from London to stay at the Hope Street Hotel and eat at the London Carriage Works and pal Jamie Carragher’s Cafe Sports England, before going for a stroll down Mathew Street.

“The Beatles were better than we'll ever be,” says the mono-browed Mancunian. “I think they were a far more innovative band than we'll ever be. The Beatles are still my heroes.”

Noel has always been a fan of the city’s music scene. He snapped up Shack for his Sour Mash record label, championed Howie Payne and donated his recording studio for free so The Coral could make their last album.

And he’s not averse to playing a surprise gig or two in town, having played a small concert at the Zanzibar as a favour to friends The Bandits.

It just goes to show – who needs Manchester when you’ve got Liverpool?

Coldplay Follow Oasis' Lead With Thursday Album Release Today

Is 'Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends' the new 'Be Here Now'?

Coldplay's fourth studio album 'Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends' is out today (June 12).

This Thursday release of the Brian Eno-produced record, the follow-up to the band's 2005 multi-platinum selling album 'X & Y', echoes Oasis, who also went for a midweek release for their third album 'Be Here Now'.

Released in August 1997, the Oasis album, much like Coldplay's current record, was highly anticipated by both music fans and critics.

Similar to 'Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends', the Oasis record had a considerable pre-release build-up, which saw the band selling 420,000 copies on the first day.

Coldplay's new album has broken the iTunes pre-sale record - with pre-sales earlier this week outnumbering the rest of the Top 40 combined.

Oasis Singer Toilet Rolls With It

He might have a few quid but Liam Gallagher has an eye for a bargain.

The Oasis frontman, pictured outside his north London home with wife Nicole Appleton, got a great deal on toilet rolls at his local supermarket – picking up three for free.

It’s amazing what kids and a loyal lass can do for a rock ’n’ roll hellraiser.

Kaiser Chiefs Say They're Not Trying To Replace Oasis

Bandmate sticks up for Ricky Wilson

Kaiser Chiefs have said that a story printed in the Sun about them is not entirely true.

As previously reported, Ricky Wilson was quoted by the paper saying that Oasis were out of touch and Kaiser Chiefs were ready to replace them.

However, speaking on the band's blog, drummer Nick Hodgson has suggested the story is not correct.

Hodgson explained: "The way I see it is Ricky was out, started talking to some guy. He didn't know he was a journalist (he didn't have a voice recorder or a notepad - which explains why the quotes from Ricky didn't sound like him at all)."

The drummer then added that Wilson may have said that Oasis have disappeared up their own asses, but he definitely didn't say the Kaiser Chiefs were going to replace them.

"He [Wilson] said that Oasis had disappeared....., which is fair enough conversation material on a late-night boozy do," wrote Hodgson. "But the rest sounds like a load of made up in the morning journalistic interpretation. All the stuff about music fans seeing us as Oasis' successors - and how Ricky thinks the vocals are really shaping up. Crazy talk. The vocals are awful, only joking, they're lovely."

What is The Greatest Album Ever?

What is the greatest ever album, the best film or the most loved novel?

The old arguments that have forever raged in pubs and round dinner tables will be settled once and for all with the launch of a ground-breaking website www.pollthepeople.com - the first evolving global poll of albums, films and books.

Everyone can have their say and make their opinion count, as well as finding other users with similar choices. Titles can be purchased at the touch of a key.

It’s the brainchild of digital music mogul Glenn Cooper, who says: “Poll the People was borne out of frustration with the endless stream of magazine, TV and online polls where results were based on a very limited survey.”

“We saw an opportunity to combine the global obsession with polls and Top 5 list-making with the increasingly popular world of online communities to create a truly definitive survey based wholly on public opinion.” The public can also vote for the new polls they would like to see on the site - eg greatest footballers, hotels, restaurants, gadgets and even beauty products.

There are also discussions about creating an innovative television show format and putting “Poll The People Top 50 Rated” stickers on all albums, DVDs and books that YOU decide are among the very best.

To celebrate the launch, Nick Hornby, the godfather of Top 5s who popularised the concept in his bestselling novel Hi-Fidelity, has contributed his Top 5 albums, films and books to the Celebrity Top 5s section, alongside the likes of Snow Patrol, Keane, Michael Eavis and Newton Faulkner. visit www.pollthepeople.com for more info.

Liam Gallagher Has Some F-Words For Gordon Ramsay

Rocker Liam Gallagher leaves Gordon Ramsay boiling mad when he sneers: “Me missus is a better effing cook than you!”

The Oasis wildman is less than impressed with the dishes served up by fiery Scot Gordon on his F Word show tonight.

And gobby Liam couldn’t resist sticking the knife in, telling him: “Your cooking is bobbins.”

The word is Manchester rhyming slang for lousy, as in bobbins o’ cotton ... rotten.

Liam is one of 50 dining guests on tonight’s show. And he loyally sticks up for the culinary skills of his wife, All Saints babe Nicole Appleton, 33, when she takes on Gordon.

She rustles up a starter of pasta and clams, followed by spiced pork chops with sweet potatoes and apple tart. And Liam tells Nicole she has beaten Gordon easily. After tucking in, he tells Ramsay, 41: “Me missus does a better sweet potato than you do.”

Liam, 35, sporting a new haircut himself, also takes a swipe at Gordon’s barnet. He says: “You look like you’ve been electrocuted or struck by lightning!”

Later Liam admits that he isn’t as wild as he used to be because the hangovers last longer as he gets older. He says: “It takes me longer to recover from nights out.”

Ramsay’s spokesman said: “Gordon thought Liam’s comments were hilarious.”

Also on the show is former Home Secretary David Blunkett, 60. He reveals that PM Gordon Brown, 57, “doesn’t have time for food” and lives on takeaways.

* The F Word is on Channel 4 tonight, 9pm (UK Only)

Chris Martin Lays Into Noel Gallagher And More

Chris Martin says Coldplay's duet with Kylie Minogue was axed from their new album because the Australian songbird made them 'too sexy' – something his band aren't ready to be.

Comeback Chris also says the pop princess took control of writing the collaboration, while the band were challenged with the task of designing the singer's outfits.

Asked why the band didn't include her duet on new album 'Viva La Vida', Martin tells the new Q Radio station, 'Well it's just too sexy, at this point we cannot be that sexy…'

Despite excluding the work, Martin, heaped praise on 40-something Kylie, saying, 'It's a song called 'Lunar' and Kylie is particularly brilliant on it'.

Joking about their work dynamic Martin said, 'She writes most of our stuff and we design most of her outfits'.

Martin insists Kylie's efforts will one day hit the airwaves, saying, ''It will 100% see the light of day and I'm going to tell you exclusively that it will be on a record that we will put out at the end of next year.'

Meanwhile, the singer has waded into the Jay-Z Glastonbury row sparked by Noel Gallagher, calling him and others 'idiots'.

'It's just proof that a great portion of the world are idiots. I don't even know where the controversy started, it probably started from two people on a computer who don't really know what they're talking about.'

You can hear the interview on Q Radio station at 6.30pm available on DAB.
