Noel Gallagher : Blues News Unbelievable

Oasis star Noel Gallagher has offered to play a gig for the prospective new owners of Manchester City.

The "staggered" Blues fan heard about the takeover while in Canada at the start of his band's world tour.

And he says he's stunned by the millions Arab businessman Dr Sulaiman Al-Fahim is prepared to pay to bring players to the club.

"Well, can I just throw my hat in the ring here and tell him that I'm available for any after-show parties he wants me to play at, if he's throwing that kind of money around," said Noel.

He told BBC Radio Five Live: "It'll be nice to know that every gallon of petrol a Man Utd fan buys will be going into City's transfer kitty."

Speaking from Ottawa, where Oasis play tomorrow, the lifelong City fan said he woke up earlier this week to discover 19 text messages.

"I was kind of laughing at first. I still really can't believe it. And to top it all off, just before we went on stage, they signed Robinho, which is just staggering.

"It's unbelievable. I can only assume they must have offered him a fortune.

"But I'm also quite made up that we managed to swindle United out of a few million as well by their having to pay over the odds for Berbatov."

Asked about Dr Al Fahim's plans to bid £120m for United's Cristiano Ronaldo, Noel replied: "The one place in the world Ronaldo won't be going is to our place. He's going to Real Madrid."

The Burnage-born singer celebrated news of the takeover by buying champagne all round.

"What a day. It was unbelievable, going from a cult football club that all black cab drivers in London, all like, they patronise you - to being the richest club in the world in a matter of hours. It's staggering."

Noel's Mad Fer Obama

Just one day after Liam Gallagher admitted he plans to quit London for New York in a few years time - brother Noel has been getting excited about the American elections.

The Oasis lord — currently in Canada on tour — has been mesmerised by US Democrat presidential candidate Barack Obama.

And he admits he was bowled over by his recent acceptance speech.

He documented on Oasisinet.com: “I managed to catch that Barack Obama's speech to the Democratic rally, impressive stuff. Spellbinding in fact. Wish he was one of ours.

“Why do Americans believe they’re electing the president of the world, though?”

Noel’s also been chatting on his site about how he’s been able to track down proper fish and chips while on tour so we don’t need to worry about him getting carried away by all things American.

There could be a vacancy at the top here soon.

Liam Sparks Oasis Revival

The new Oasis album is being hailed as their finest in years, but Liam Gallagher is still struggling to get to grips with the title.

Dig Out Your Soul finds the Manchester legends in ­psychedelic mode, but Liam isn’t reading too much into the cryptic title.

The straight-talking frontman said: “It means f***-all to me. It’s only a lyric. If you use ‘dig’ and ‘soul’ you can’t go wrong.”

Oasis chief songwriter Noel Gallagher believes allowing his brother to write more tunes for them over the years has saved the band from imploding.

Noel, 41, explained: “I told him, ‘You’re gonna have to put your money where your mouth is now and see how you like it when people are f***ing slagging you off.’

“It saved the band in a way. I don’t think I could do it any more – write 12 songs for an album, six B-sides or extra tracks. I didn’t want to drive it any more.”

Now the lads can see Oasis lasting the distance. Well Liam can, at least.

The mouthy singer, 35, said: “I am Oasis. Not saying the others aren’t, but I live it and breathe it every day.
“I’ll do it for ever, the way the Rolling Stones have.”

Over the years, slating the latest Oasis record has become a national pastime and it’s made Liam more sensitive.

He admitted: “It hurts when people say we don’t change or we’re boring.”

At least Noel is as self confident as ever.

He told this month’s Q magazine: “I don’t give a f*** what spotty, divvy little indie bands think about me.

“I don’t give a f*** what some c***sucker from The Wombats thinks of Oasis, or anyone from The Last Shadow Puppets.

“I’m not arsed about any of them. They’re so beneath me it’s unbelieveable.”

Dig Out Your Soul hits the high street on October 6.

Bad Boys Do Good

Bickering Gallaghers on their best behaviour at MTS Centre

It's been almost 15 years since they first "arrived" in North America, riding the same wave of critical adulation that accompanied our short-lived love affair with Britpop.

But despite the passage of time -- and the infamous sibling rivalry that's always threatening to overshadow their music, if not sink them outright -- the Manchester-born members of Oasis are still going strong.

Though they've long since put their more controversy-courting antics to rest, bickering brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher still have quite the reputations as two of rock's most prominent bad boys.

But the sibs were on their best behaviour last night at MTS Centre, delivering a no-nonsense set that doubled as a tutorial on how best to survive genre fads and fickle-fan backlashes. Opener Rock & Roll Star -- from the band's 1994 debut Definitely Maybe -- found frontman Liam striking a familiar, cocksure pose, hip jutted out ever so slightly and mono-browed eyes trained menacingly on the crowd.

He traded spiky, assured vocals with Noel on the more recent hit Lyla and drew cheers for The Shock of Lightning -- the lead single from the band's pending new disc Dig Out Your Soul -- before ceding lead vocals to Noel for The Masterplan, first released as a B-side from the mid-'90s.

Guitar-heavy tracks like Slide Away and What's the Story Morning Glory fared slightly better than jangle-pop numbers like Songbird, though fans had to wait for the latter half of the show (which we missed, on account of an early deadline) for singalong anthems like Wonderwall, Don't Look Back In Anger and Champagne Supernova.

Now in theory, opening act Ryan Adams & the Cardinals -- with their alt-country stylings and folksy jam band tendencies -- might seem the antithesis of Oasis' grizzled arena rock.

But as fans know, the two acts share many a hard-edged musical parallel, plus no less an expert than Noel has said he "never got his head around" Wonderwall until he heard Adams' cover version.

The former Whiskeytown frontman wisely chose not to try to beat the Gallaghers at their own game yesterday, but he and the Cardinals did deliver an hour-long set that found them deftly straddling the line between country and rock.

In between mumbled bits of banter, the hyper-prolific troubadour led his band through tunes culled mostly from the last four years, weaving from the haunting, strobe light-enhanced Off Broadway to the nakedly plaintive Please Do Not Let Me Go; from steel pedal-infused country numbers like Let It Ride and Mockingbird, to borderline rockers like Come Pick Me Up and Everybody Knows.

Prior to Adams' set, fellow opener Matt Costa proved he harbours no ill will against Winnipeg, despite the fact some $25,000 worth of his equipment was stolen the last time he played here back in February.

Perhaps hoping to safeguard against another heist, the indie-rocker performed with just a guitarist and a drummer this time, turning in a coffeehouse-appropriate half-hour set.

Oasis Record Demos With GarageBand

Prior to the release of Dig Out Your Soul, Noel Gallagher has spoken to MusicRadar about the band's new demo-recording process. Following the "four and a half year" struggle to record Don't Believe The Truth, the Oasis guitarist reveals how he's ditched his elaborate home studio in favour of Gem's bedroom and his "little GarageBand computer".

"I had my own fully functioning recording studio with an EMI II desk and a really cool Neve desk. But I kind of got sick of it because the demos were starting to sound better than the records," Noel told MusicRadar's US Editor Joe Bosso. "We actually do our demos now in Gem's bedroom on his little GarageBand computer".

"We fell into this trap of recording a load of demos for a record, then going to America to make the record, preferring the demos and trying to marry the two. That's why Don't Believe The Truth took about four and a half years – it was a struggle".

We can definitely see where Noel's coming from with this complaint. Large parts of the Gas Panic demo, among others, ended up making the cut in the final Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants album mix.

Liam To Ditch UK For The Big Apple

Landlords in North London will be weeping over their beer barrels.

Paparazzi, meanwhile, will be breathing a sigh of relief. Liam Gallagher is leaving the UK.

The hard-drinking, snapper-slapping Oasis frontman plans to emigrate to New York.

But, he’ll be in Blighty for a few years yet.

He will leave the UK behind only when his kids have finished school.

And considering son Gene, youngest of his three children, is only seven, it could be more than a decade before he makes his way to the Big Apple.

Liam said: “I love that city, I love the buzz off it.”

His Canadian-born wife Nicole Appleton lived there for five years, he said, adding: “That’s the next step for me.

“And no, I’m not going to do acting or any of that s***.

“I’ve been offered a few things but it’s not me. I’m just going to a place where I can be me.”

The band are currently in the middle of a tour of Canada — but Manchester City fans Liam and brother NOEL will be itching to come back and get a taste of their team’s latest revolution.

Their eagerly awaited UK dates kick off at Cornwall’s Eden Project on September 27.

Oasis In Q Awards Shortlist

Coldplay have crowned their comeback by leading the field in the shortlist for this year’s Q Awards as the nominees were announced today.

Among their haul of four nominations in the annual celebration of the year’s greatest music is a chance of winning the title of Best Act In The World Today, a prize they last won in 2005 as they basked in the glory of X&Y. To land the trophy in 2008 they face competition from Oasis, Muse, Metallica and Kings of Leon.

Coldplay also compete in the prized Best Album category for their global chart-topping album Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends. The band’s fourth release lines up against self-titled albums by Fleet Foxes and Vampire Weekend as well as The Age Of The Understatement by The Last Shadow Puppets and Dig!!! Lazarus, Dig!!! by Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds.

The awards take place at the Grosvenor House Hotel, in Park Lane, London on October 6 and will, as always, draw an array of glittering names from the world of Q.

White fake leather sofas you can’t actually sit on as much as slouch about 4 inches off the floor AND a little Buddha surrounded by little fake flowers in a little fake fountain that makes you just want to go for a little fake piss. Ooh, Ta, Cantona

He has been described as a visionary but I doubt even Manchester United legend Eric Cantona could see this coming.

Back in 1993 he was handed a cassette by a scruffy Manchester City fan washing cars near Old Trafford to make ends meet while trying to get a band off the ground with his brother.

Fast forward to 2008 and Eric has auctioned the Definitely Maybe demo copy given to him by Liam Gallagher and raised £1,500 for disadvantaged kids at a Unicef do.

OASIS’ first album is one of the best rock records ever and if you want to bag a rare demo I know two other places to look.

Because when working at the Formula One Car Valet Service, a young Liam also gave copies to Eric’s teammates Brain McClair and Lee Sharpe.

And for any City fans, including brother Noel, disappointed by Liam working for their deadly rivals – do not despair.

He was fired after a hate campaign against United – he scratched Cantona’s car, rubbed wire wool on Paul Ince's BMW and lobbed a bucket of water over Ryan Giggs.

Fortunately, Liam’s singing career has lasted a lot longer.

Ryan Adams On Touring With Oasis

OASIS are the nicest people...plus amazing.i have to say that i just have never been treated with such respect by any band before including their crew. and this is OASIS folks. they don’t have to be this way. they wrote the rock’n’roll year-book of my youth and my middle years. wow. they are so nice about letting you watch from the control booth, or side stage, or even how the super friendly way cool two guys, like the wizard in the wizard of oz, behind the stage controlling those massive badass lazer screens (“Champagne SuperNova”- my god those effects- and the BLADE RUNNER LIGHT SHOW LIGHT RIG SPIDER ARMS- wow….fuck…)…..or how sometimes i am playing and i look over and OASIS are watching us. man, that is fucking something. they watch neal though- marsha marsha marsha…just jkng (but not cmon i play guitar too- i just dont know what im doing- so what…..)

I was looking for a seat at lunch the other day and there was a space open next to Gem and Andy and Noel. It was crowded at catering and I saw a space open at their table. sounds like high school cafeteria right? So I sat and had the most pleasant lunch with them.

Noel and I talked about gear, but he asks me stuff, so do the other guys like “how did you guys do that thing that sounded like a robot dying- or whats the song with that three part just singing bit”….CAN U IMAGINE???? how cool…..

Noel had an interview and excused himself from the table after a bit, total gentleman, and Ian came round. He had been out for a walk and had a fascinating story about all the weddings he had seen. He’s very personalable and engaging to everyone. and very funny. they both are, that suttle english humor, which i love so much, about english culture- that sluggish grey tough - tomorrow-will-be-better- type shrug off one liners. they’re the stuff of dylan thomas and a thousand great poets before them. total culture imbedding. love it.

The funny thing is- they are OASIS and they “ASK” people questions….me, others, how they are- what is new, and aren’t kind of pretending to be interested- i see them interact with their crew, with local crew and others- and they are so generous.

It means the world to me to be on this tour and I am learning so much.

I really like to watch from front of house so I try and change clothes and fit in and just hang back, some people get weird with me, usually if they have been drinking alcohol or something maybe they can get weird.

And I see all those beautiful girls out there too. Wow. I wish I were a scumbag then maybe it would be cool to go out hunting for some suck-face. But I am not like that. I live my dreams through the girls I love, and you just don’t meet them often.

besides- I am dating jam’s. (btw- Jambase/Relix- “Jams” means “songs” i learned that from thurston interviews- i liked how he called them jams. I love that band so much. Sonic Youth. my god. its why i am out here right now- because of how much i liked all that good music.

so I am dating my bunk and my comics. which is cool.

ill get some suck-face for i turn into bones.

anyway- i was depressed before tour- and this tour- and OASIS and my friends, and all this- i just feel better.

I play guitar- you know- and just write stuff and read and make art and STAY BUSY- like my grabndmothers rosebushes ( my Lord- she loves them- they’re seeded wild so they grow all year- “i like to keep busy- keeps me young” she say’s-

my rosebushes are typewriters- tours- drawing- making hotel rock/ vids- gettin mad crushes ( i had the feist crust i admit it- who didn’t right…)

I like to keep it simple and really I know no matter how amazing someone is, you can’y get to know them in a night, esp in a few words over the blasting of that amazing band on stage- so it sucks some when i am just finished my set and want to be in the audience. i am no celebrity. just ryan.

OASIS bring the tone man. TONE not volume. TONE. and that is what matters really….because all the new songs, to me, are pointing in this GOLDEN ERA man, this beautiful zone….and when the hits roll….my fucking arms are in the air with everybody else- and u know em- riff comes- crowd explodes- my eyes water…..

AND YOU CANT HELP BUT SING ALONG- THESE ARE OUR GENERATIONS ANTHEMS- they are OUR Beatles.

I never cared much for the Beatles really( i know- i know- it just was already out there so hard when i got into recods i wanted Husker Du singles and shit)- which is odd, because Oasis were MY Beatles- and I guess my Rolling Stones were The Smiths, with Morrissey as Oscar Wilde but wounded and Johnny Marr making girl group chords sound like they were from some war torn era in an english novel or other dimension….(AND OF COURSE- I see the Rolling Stones when I can….) so they’re themselves too.

but OASIS kind of write songs for HERE. for, you know, the moment. very zen.

I always thought the stones would mellow into creepiness-blues-country-rock-hybrids- the same flow that gimme-shelter came from …….i wish the Stones could go see OASIS- like as a whole band- like pal’s and stand side stage- and look at all that- all that new and old- all working forward……wise men tell new tales because they keep looking…..

still,

OASIS have taught me this since I have been out here with my friends and our lovely crew.

1. Play the HITS. not ALL of them, but give those people their ticket promise…even if you have a lot of records- hit at least three bases ( like in american baseball) and make the last song a slide into Home-Base (even if it is a live favorite)

Encores should be footnotes. the SET should be mind-blowing.

2. Don’t get scared- get connected. (LIAM stares into the masses- he embraces it like a yogi- like a wrestler- like a mythological hero. I love watching him sing so hard- give so much- he makes his own self mad and comments, in a quip to himself in the parts where he doesn’t sing- and he SONGS SO HARD HE FALLS AWAY from the MIC.

3. trust your band- even if your voice is failing or the concert is going crap- just trust always that someone to sing for is right there. My REAL brother does not mind if i say this, but Noel and Liam are REAL brothers, and mine are the CARDINALS.

4. Brad is funny as fuck and needs some upgrades on his computer-

so we are going for a walk.

like liam. liam telling me about taking a walk- then seeing him and his brother and two TWO hero’s of mine, gem and andy and their AMAZING new drummer chris- tear it down as that sweet laid back guy i had some lunch with- stood there as “What’s the Story Morning Glory” ripped into my chest on EVERY night-

it’s nice to just get out.

it’s nice to finally be mellowing-

i guess i just needed a reminder of what i do and who i am- and how all of that comes with learning and listening-

what an honor. CARDINALS will take so much from learning how to fuse an hour set. It can only open door to more tunes when it’s back to our TWO SET rule.

Chris Sharrock - The New Oasis Drummer

Born on the Wirral in 1964, Chris Sharrock cut his percussive teeth with '80s Scouse combo The Icicle Works, before beating the skins for The La's,World Party and, for the last 12 years Robbie Williams's backing band. Then Noel called...again.

This is the second time you've been offered the job of drummer in Oasis, isn't it? Noel says you were the original choice in 2004 before Zak Starkey joined...

Yeah. Noel phoned me four years ago and said "What do you think [about joining Oasis]?" and I was like "Yeah, interested, ring us back on Friday." And I waited four years for him to phone me back, basically. This time he phoned up and I was in bed watching Bargain Hunt. I hadn't done anything for 15 months. It was a bit of an uneventful time, so it was great to get a call.

Have you always been an Oasis fan?

Oh yeah. I've loved Oasis since they kicked off. I'm a fan, course. They're f***ing great, aren't they? Best rock'n'roll band in the world in my opinion.

Talk us through your drumming history...

The Icicle Works were my first real band. Everyone talks about me being in The La's but I was only there for about eight months. I left after the Mike Hedges session [the original 1990 version of the band's sole album] was scrapped and I ended up in the practice room on the Monday, just me playing drums and Lee [Mavers] reading a book on African drumming. I just didn't turn up the next day. I went straight from that to World Party. That was weird,cos it was like going from early Beatles with The La's to the White Album. And now I've joined the mid-period Beatles.

Have Liam or Noel ever taken the piss because you'd played with Robbie Williams for 12 years?

No! It's weird, no one's mentioned it. No one's taken the piss. Yet.

As a drummer you're quite a showman, throwing the sticks around...

Well I won't be doing any of that. When you've got Liam standing in front of you, it doesn't seem appropriate. I'm just clinging onto the sticks for dear life at the moment, never mind tossing them around. I'm just trying to get the drums as strong as possible. All 20 songs in the set are classics.

How will you cope if there are any rucks?

[Laughs] I dunno. I'll probably go and polish me drums or something.
