Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere

Taken from Noel's tour diary from oasisinet.com

Aberdeen? Bloody hell! Them kids was crazy!! A pleasure to have been there, etc.

Where are we? Glasgow, that's where.

Spent the day in my adopted 2nd city yesterday, Edinburgh. Went to see the in-laws. My boy's up there visiting with his mam. God, it's peaceful in that city. Haven't been up there since New Year's Eve. If you haven't done NYE in Edinburgh, then you haven't done NYE. It's some piss-up let me tell you.

It's all about that American election today. I guess we'd all like Obama to win, no? The other fella's rhetoric is just laughable (not that it's any of our business).

I'm going shopping. I need some dancing shoes.

See you at the S.E.C.C., if you're coming.

In a bit.

GD.

Oasis Doesn’t Care What People Say About Album

British rock superstars Oasis are finding renewed commercial and critical success with their latest album ``Dig Out Your Soul.'' But Oasis is not concerned about what the people say about their music.

``It's interesting to see what people say but at the end of the day I don't care. We're so far beyond people making a difference with a review. So it doesn't really matter to me what people think about it,'' Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher told The Korea Times in an email interview.

Oasis returned with their seventh album ``Dig Out Your Soul,'' which many critics say is the best Oasis album in a long time. Noel and his younger brother Liam have written songs that show a more mature side of Oasis. Most of the songs still show strong influences from The Beatles, something Oasis is always known for.

Gallagher describes the music as ``driving, pounding, acid rock, added with much more groove.'' He wrote the first single ``The Shock of the Lightning," which was released last month.

``We don't really like setting out ground rules about how we're going to approach a record. I'm sick of bands that are always telling you the concept. We just go in and record the songs that we think are the best and the rest of it will look after itself,'' Gallagher said.

When asked about the album's enigmatic title, which was taken from a lyric on guitarist Gem Archer's song, Gallagher just said, ``You know what? Titles become themselves.''

Oasis shot to stardom with their first album ``Definitely Maybe'' in 1994, quickly followed by an even more successful album ``(What's the Story) Morning Glory?'' in 1995.

Gallagher and his younger brother and Oasis vocalist Liam sold millions of albums, and racked up number one hits and music awards, but they also gained a reputation as the ``bad boys'' of British rock.

Their third album ``Be Here Now'' became the fastest-selling album in U.K. chart history in 1997. Through the years, they've released albums ``Standing on the Shoulder of Giants'' (2000) ``Heathen Chemistry'' (2002) and ``Don't Believe the Truth.''

Oasis kicked off their current world tour in Seattle in August.

However, several tour dates were cancelled after Gallagher was injured at a music festival in Toronto in September. A drunken fan went on stage and attacked Gallagher, who suffered three broken ribs.

Now, Oasis is back on their world tour, which Gallagher promises is Oasis' ``biggest'' and ``boldest.'' ``The tour is bigger than anything we've done before and the tour will be our boldest yet,'' he said.

Unfortunately for fans in Korea, there's no word on an Oasis concert in Seoul.

Oasis Roll With It For Another Night Of Glory

It may have been the day before Bonfire Night but Oasis certainly delivered some fireworks as they swaggered into the SECC last night.

And although the mouthy Manchester rock gods have been going for 14 years now, they still had the sold-out crowd in the palm of their hands from the opening blast of Rock N Roll Star, a song that was once a statement of intent but is now simply a matter of fact.

The Gallagher brothers didn't let the pace slack early on, with a raucous sing-a-long Lyla, before the classic guitar intro of Cigarettes And Alcohol saw the entire building shake.

Liam was his usual self, casually moving about the stage with a confident, cocky air. He didn't say much, but did find time to direct a sarcastic, foul-mouthed dedication before one number to Lorraine Kelly!

His brother Noel was quiet too, preferring to let the music do the talking.

The one hour and 40-minute set mixed in old classics, new material and a few rarities, with a storming Morning Glory highlighting the drumming prowess of new sticksman Chris Sharrock, while The Masterplan offered a nice change of pace.

Of the material from new album Dig Out Your Soul, the psychedelic tinged To Be Where There's Life fared best, letting Liam's famed full-throated roar shine. Unfortunately, the same couldn't be said of Ain't Got Nothin'.

But a superb Wonderwall and Supersonic had plenty of punch, before the encore was highlighted by an acoustic run-through of Don't Look Back In Anger and the inevitable closing cover of I Am The Walrus.

Oasis return to the SECC tonight, but the gig's sold-out.

Brit Gay Mens Most Desirable Date

OUR Kid won’t like this! Bad boy rocker Liam Gallagher has been voted a top pin-up by Britain’s gay men.

The Oasis frontman, 36, has been named as one of the most “lovable rogues”.

The results of a survey by dating website Gay-Parship.co.uk will come as a surprise to many, especially after Liam’s well publicised “gay-bashing” of footballers and fellow singers.

In the past the singer has labelled the England football team “gay boys” and told rival music star Robbie Williams, 34, he is a “f***ing drama queen”.

But now it seems his wild ways have struck a chord with gay men in Britain.

Or could it be because the former hellraiser has tamed his wild ways and is said to be opting for a more “metrosexual” lifestyle.

Earlier this year Liam was reported to have enjoyed a day of pampering in LA’s Four Seasons Hotel, including eyebrow and chest waxing.

And last month he admitted people were calling him gay after he calmed his behaviour.

It came after the singer chose to call it a night at 10.30pm and head home to bed with his wife Nicole Appleton, 33, following his gig at London’s Electric Proms.

Meanwhile older brother Noel, 41, boozed until 4.30am on a massive bender in Camden.

Liam said: “People who’ve got any soul will realise there’s a day when you go home, put your feet up and cuddle your kids.

“But when you do show a bit of caring, they call you a poof.”

Oasis Star's Fundraiser Speech

Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher dropped his hardman image to help raise cash for a cancer charity.

And bosses said their new hero was "a lovely young man".

Liam, 36, was spotted in a bar at Aberdeen's exclusive Marcliffe at Pitfodels hotel on Friday, the night before the band's gig in the city.

A dinner for charity Clan was being held in the hotel.

Organisers spotted the star and decided to chance their arm and ask him to appear as a special guest at the dinner.

Clan's managing director Debbie Thomson said yesterday: "We started with a drinks reception downstairs before going up for the charity dinner.

"We happened to notice Liam in the bar and wondered if he would join us.

"Forbes Shand, of manufacturing company RB Farquhar, went over and chatted to him and, fortunately, Liam agreed to come up and say a few words.

"It was fantastic.

He wished Clan well with our fund-raising.

"He knew a bout the necessity for support because of a recent cancerrelated death in the family.

"His best wishes for our fundraising was greatly appreciated particularly as our cause is so close to his heart.

"He came across as a lovely young man. It had a wonderful affect on the audience.

"It really was a wonderful ending to a fantastic event.

"An appearance from someone like Liam Gallagher was just the icing on the cake."

The dinner raised more than £40,000 towards Clan's target of £3million for a new cancer support centre.

In September, he donated a signed guitar to a silent auction to raise money for Breast Cancer Care.

The crowd-surfing singer beat the likes of Jay-Z, Arctic Monkeys' Alex Turner and MIA to the top spot.

Liam Makes Surprise Charity Appearance

Rock superstar Liam Gallagher made a surprise appearance at a north-east charity event before his band Oasis played two nights in Aberdeen.

The band played at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre on Saturday and Sunday, but they stayed at the Marcliffe at Pitfodels hotel last Friday, where a dinner was being held for north-east cancer charity Clan.

Mr Gallagher talked to guests, and made a speech adding his support.

Clan’s managing director Debbie Thomson said: “Mr Gallagher’s impromptu visit really enthused the audience. The event as a whole was a great success with some fantastic entertainment, and an appearance from someone with as high a profile as Liam Gallagher was just the icing on the cake.

“His best wishes for our fundraising were also greatly appreciated, particularly as our cause is so close to his heart after a cancer-related death in his family.”

The dinner – hosted by Aberdeenshire-based company RB Farquhar – raised more than £40,000 towards Clan’s target of £3million for a new centre and also included entertainment from comedian David Copperfield.

Oasis Fan In Stage Invasion

Oasis almost had deja vu in Aberdeen when a Scots fan took to the stage.

Noel and Liam Gallagher had played their final song when the fan invaded the stage at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre.

The fan had to be wrestled off as Liam and Noel departed - in a move which echoed Oasis's onstage onslaught in Toronto, Canada, in September.

A spokesman for the venue said: "A fan got on the stage at the weekend at the very end of the set.

"The band were making their way off the stage and the fan was caught before they could do anything."

Grampian Police say no one has been charged over the incident.

Exclusive Noel And Liam In Separate Hotels After Bust-Up

Oasis brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher checked into different hotels last night after a rumoured spat.

The brothers had played Aberdeen's Exhibition and Conference Centre over the weekend before heading to Glasgow one day in advance of their two sell-out gigs at the city's SECC.

The brothers were both initially booked at a plush west end hotel, but decided to change plans at the last minute.

Noel chose to keep to the original arrangement and arrived shortly before 8pm at his exclusive hotel.

But Liam opted to stay outwith the city boundaries, in a stately home where he could roam free in the private grounds. Later, he had a boozy night out at an Indian restaurant in Glasgow city centre.

Arriving at his hotel in a blackedout limo and laden with shopping bags, Noel said: "My brother is not here with me tonight. He's chosen to stay at a different hotel."

When asked why, he shrugged and refused to explain.

But an insider said: "Noel and Liam have had their differences in the past and this time they made it clear that they didn't want to stay in the same hotel. They've had some sort of argument and plans had to be changed as Liam requested a hotel miles away from his brother.

"It seems typical of Oasis's fiery relationship."

Noel seemed relaxed on his arrival and said he was excited about performing his shows at the SECC.

Although he had taken a private jet home in between his two Aberdeen gigs, Noel spent most of yesterday in Edinburgh with his fiancee Sara MacDonald.

Noel, who was wearing a long stripey scarf, a brown leather bomber and jeans, told the Record: "I've spent the day in Edinburgh visiting my in-laws and I've been shopping.

"It was very nice and has put me in agreat mood for my gigs in Scotland.

I always enjoy playing here."

Meanwhile, singer Liam revelled with seven friends, including his manager and drummer, at Glasgow's Cafe India.

Liam ordered a chicken korma with extra coconut and drank a number of double vodka and lemonades.

He even popped outside for a quick smoke.

Fellow diner and Record columnist Tam Cowan was startled to spot Liam and his party.

Tam said: "Liam was stoating about with his band and roadies, and was in a very genial mood."

Babyshambles Cover Strokes And Oasis At Halloween Party

Pete Doherty played a raucous Halloween gig in an east London flat last Friday (October 31).

The gig, which was advertised on internet forums, saw Doherty return to the tiny Whitechapel flat he had played at last Monday (October 27).

Taking to the makeshift stage wearing a black cat mask, and with a cigarette poking out from behind his ear, Doherty launched straight into a slowed-down version of The Strokes' 2001 single 'The Modern Age'.

To watch fan footage of Doherty performing the song, click below.

The rest of Doherty's set was made up of his own songs, including Babyshambles' 'Fuck Forever', The Libertines' 'Never Never' and unreleased track '1939 Returning'.

Rumours that Amy Winehouse would also sing at the gig proved to be false, although Doherty's Babyshambles bandmate Mik Whitnall did perform a solo set, taking requests from the crowd.

Whitnall's set included covers of The Libertines 'I Get Along' and Oasis' 'Cigarettes And Alcohol'.

As NME.COM previously reported, Pete Doherty is set to play a solo gig at the Monarch in Camden this Thursday (November 6).

Gallagher Brothers Return To North-East To Wow Fans

Rock’n’Roll superstars Oasis returned to the north-east for the first time in three years at the weekend to blow away two capacity crowds at the Press and Journal Arena.

However, the Gallagher brothers’ Aberdeen gigs were almost marred by an attempted stage invasion on Saturday when a fan had to be wrestled off the stage as Liam and Noel departed.

The Manchester legends last performed before a sellout crowd in the Granite City back in December 2005 – and probably could have sold out the AECC 10 times over for their long-awaited return.

In a financial climate where even the world’s biggest banks are having to borrow money, the admission price of nearly £40 was fairly steep.

But with the Gallagher brothers in such impressive form, it did not seem to matter.

Rousing
They burst on to the stage with a searing version of Rock’n’Roll Star, followed by Lyla and current single Shock of the Lightning.

There were the obvious highlights such as rousing renditions of 1990s favourites Slide Away, Wonderwall and Don’t Look Back in Anger – but there were also some gems from the new album, Dig Out Your Soul.

I’m Outta Time, written by Liam, was followed by Falling Down, Waiting For The Rapture and To be Where There’s Light.

They finished off the 90-minute set in traditional fashion, with Champagne Supernova and Beatles cover I Am the Walrus.

They left to deafening applause.

However, the night was almost spoiled by a man trying to evade security and run on to the stage.

He managed to scale the barrier at the front of the arena and jumped on to the edge of the stage as the band were heading off.

The incident comes just weeks after the band had to cancel dates when Noel Gallagher failed to recover from injuries received during a stage invasion in Canada.

The 41-year-old needed hospital treatment after being knocked over when a man stormed on stage during the V Festival in Toronto in September.

Grampian Police said no one had been charged with any offence over the Aberdeen incident.

Dire Straits And Oasis Legends Play The Thatch

Former members of the legendary Dire Straits and English group Oasis will be dropping into the Thatch in Rahan this week.

John Illsley (Dire Straits) and Greg Pearle plays The Thatch next Monday, November 10, while Oasis legend Bonehead and singer-songwriter Pete Macleod take to this stage this Friday, November 7.

John Illsley was the bass player with the legendary 120 million album selling Dire Straits and contributing vocalist to their Communiqué, Making Movies and Brothers in Arms albums until the group dissolved in 1995. John also released two albums of his own, Never Told A Soul in 1984 and Glass in 1988.

Until recently, John had retired from music and moved to rural Hampshire with his family to focus on his other passion, painting. He bought a local pub, the East End Arms, and The George Hotel on the Isle of Wight, and began exhibiting his art around the world.

Everything changed when he met the Irish rock group Cunla in a pub in Leicestershire. This was in March 2005, when Greg Pearle was their singer, and the vibe was so intense that John took to the stage for the first time since 1993, joining the band to play a couple of Dire Straits' numbers.

John recalls: 'I was asked to play a few tunes with them. I liked their attitude and the fact that despite the large quantities of Guinness that had been consumed they could all play very well.'

To coincide with an exhibition of his art in Les Baux de Provence, John was asked to perform some Dire Straits songs.
"The Mayor of the town asked me and it's not done in France to refuse the Mayor. I asked Cunla if they could learn some Dire Straits songs and it turned out that Greg was a big fan and knew a lot of the songs already," said John.

John and Cunla played at the Festival des Alpilles, performing to 1300 people in the Cathedral D'Image in Les Baux de Provence. The show was recorded and John was 'pleasantly surprised' by the results. 'I initially wanted the band to have a record of their French experience but several people heard it and encouraged us to release it.'

John and Greg became friends and John discovered that Greg was a songwriter. "We spent some time knocking his songs into shape then began recording them in Mark Knopfler's fabulous studio in Hammersmith. Wait 'til you hear them. Greg writes brilliant songs and has an amazing voice," he said.

John and Greg will play the Thatch Rahan on Monday November 10.

Meanwhile acclaimed singer-songwriter Pete Macleod and Oasis legend Bonehead are touring together this autumn.
Pete Macleod and Bonehead have come together to create a special one-off acoustic tour. This is the first time that Pete Macleod has toured the UK and is one of Bonehead's rare appearances since leaving Oasis. Bonehead's Myspace attracted 1000 + friends within the first hour of going 'live'.

LA based Glaswegian Pete has caught the attention of Q Magazine, Alan McGee and radio playlisters on both sides of the Atlantic. Voted one of the top 50 downloads by Q, and with a heavily downloaded album 'This Is Modern Soul'.
Pete's vision has been clear from the start, to create an album that has "great songs with a big sound to back it up".

Now touring the UK for the first time with Oasis' founder member Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs, fans will get a chance to hear the songs live, and also see the much-missed Oasis guitarist playing live again.

Pete's powerful vocals & captivating lyrics combined with Bonehead's legendary and exemplary guitar playing will create a tremendous gig, not to be missed!
Expect hits from 'Definitely Maybe' and 'Whats The Story Morning Glory'

Catch them at the Thatch Rahan on Friday November 7. Tickets for both gigs are available from Heartbeat City and for more information log onto www.myspace.com/ thethatchrahan

No Cigarettes Or Alcohol As Oasis Jet Home

One-time wild boys Oasis went home to their loved ones after their opening night in Scotland.

The Gallagher brothers snubbed the Northern Lights of Aberdeen after Saturday's gig despite having to be back for last night's second show.

Manchester boys Noel and Liam had a private plane waiting at the city's airport to whisk them home to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon with their families.

Within minutes of their barnstorming performance at Aberdeen's Exhibition and Conference Centre ending the pair were chauffeurdriven to the airport and were heading back south.

The rest of the band and road crew stayed behind and enjoyed a few beers at a plush hotel near Aberdeen.

A source told the Razz: "Noel and Liam can still party with the best of them, but they don't see the point of staying in hotels when they can be home in a couple of hours.

"Noel and Liam wanted to go home and it isn't a problem to fly back when they're not due on stage until 9pm the next night."

The brothers more than earned their Sunday at home after another sell-out set in the Granite City.

Oasis had the Aberdeen crowd going from the off with hits such as Morning Glory, The Importance Of Being Idle and Wonderwall.

The band are back on top with a great new album and a back catalogue fit to blow their contemporaries away.

They play Glasgow's SECC tomorrow and Wednesday.

Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere

Taken from Noel's tour diary from Oasisinet.com

Arright. What to say? Not a lot happening at the minute. The boys are on their way to Aberdeen. I'm on my way to Dublin. Got some interviews to attend to. Which pretty much amounts to being asked some very heavily loaded questions about U2/Bono. We've all been in Belfast the last couple of days. Somewhat predictably the gigs were great.

I went to see that Giant's Causeway thing and I can report that it's still there!

Can't believe that non-story involving Russell and Jonathan is STILL rumbling on. How is it that a talented handsome devil loses his job because of The Daily Mail and a “Satanic Slut” gets rich because of The Tabloids? That's the English and its media for you, I suppose.

And yes, my bags did eventually turn up.

In a bit.

GD.
