Oasis: A Year On The Road Photography By Paul Slattery

February 1995 saw the band in what photographer Paul Slattery calls "cowboy country, where people drive around with shotguns on racks in the back of their pick-up trucks, and road signs are peppered with bullet holes".

This shot was taken onstage at the Academy in New York during the safer second leg of the North American tour, on March 8.

Get a sneak peak at Paul Slattery's behind the scenes shots as he toured with super stars Oasis here.

Tales From the Middle Of Nowhere

Just waking up in Monterey. What a day! The sun has go his hat on. Beautiful sunrise.

Nervously waiting on this very phone for updates on the score of the Manchester derby. Can't see us getting anything today. 0-0 would be perfectly acceptable.

Done a photo shoot yesterday in some shady neighbourhood. Wot's-iz-name shit himself from start to finish. He doesn't seem to like being out on the streets even if we're surrounded by 6 armed guards.

BOLLOCKS!! Little Spongebob Rooney's just scored. Typical clown-ish behaviour in the box apparently.

Now here's a thing. In Mexico right, the hombres who flog the bootleg t-shirts etc. have been selling Man Utd shirts with their shit badge and the Oasis logo side by side on the front and GALLAGHER and a big no. 10 on the back?! MAN UTD SHIRTS!!!! That's out-fuckin'-rageous.

The gig was great - give or take the odd freestyle cock up.

Half time. Shit-cunts - 1. City - 0.

Flying back to LA today. Gonna be based there for a week. Cue torrential rain, no doubt. Gotta go via Dallas international airport. Immigration officials haven't taken too kindly to me the last couple of times I've been in transit there - what with me being an evil genius'n'all. I'm steeling myself for a game of cat and mouse with whoever they send to deal with me this time.

My missus is waiting for me in California with my boy so it'll all be worthwhile.

Adios Mexico.

Hasta luego, and all that.

GD.

PS - The match finished 1-0 to the squares.

Weezer To Tour With Oasis

On the heels of the release of the second volume of Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo's home recordings, the group is now taking a look back into its own vaults.

Cuomo tells Billboard he has "no idea" when the tentatively titled "Odds and Ends" will be released, but describes it as "just another fun project to do. They're great songs, but for some reason they didn't make the final cut for [a] record. They span a vast period of time from the very beginning of our career in the early '90s right up to the present day."

Meanwhile, Cuomo says Weezer may tour next spring with Oasis, and is hoping to enlist Spike Jonze to direct a video for the song "The Greatest Man Who Ever Lived" from its recent "The Red Album."

And while the next Weezer studio album appears to be a ways off, the group recently recorded six Christmas carols that will be downloadable for the iPhone game "Tap Tap Revenge," including "Oh Holy Night." Says Cuomo, "They're the classics."

In addition, Cuomo recently wrote a song with sibling pop duo Aly & AJ, although it's unclear when it may see the light of day. "It was such a blast to remember how teenagers approach songwriting," he says of the experience. "Their minds just work so fast and they have no fear and no ego."

Cuomo's "Alone II: The Home Recordings" was released earlier this week by DGC/Interscope. The first installment came out in December 2007.

For an extensive Q&A with Rivers Cuomo, visit Billboard.com later today.

Noel Gallagher's Back With Anger

You don’t slag off the Gallagher brothers and get away with it — as Mick Hucknall, Kaiser Chiefs and many more have found out over the years.

I told you on Saturday how Status Quo frontman Ffrancis Rossi accused the Mancs of not knowing the meaning of rock ‘n’ roll.

Francis reckoned Liam was miserable and looked “bored s***less” when on stage.

And now unimpressed Noel has responded with a few choice words of his own.

The Oasis axe lord said: “Normally I wouldn’t give a rat’s a******e what Status Quo have got to say about anything.

“But tell those ****s from me that when I go on stage at Wembley next summer, I won’t be wondering about what the poster boys for Help The Aged think.”

I reckon that’s 1-1.

Over to you, Francis.

Britney Spears Is Most Searched For Subject By British Web Users, Yahoo! Claims

Britney Spears is the UK's most searched-for subject on the internet, Yahoo! claims.

Interest in the troubled pop star propelled her to first place in the website's list of the top 10 searches for 2008.

Her profile seems only to have grown even as she became known more for her turbulent private life than her music.

She is now attempting a comeback as she releases her sixth studio album, called Circus.

The UK's other interests over the past year have been similarly showbiz-focused, with all top five positions filled by pop culture phenomena: the TV shows Big Brother and X Factor, the rock band Oasis, and Disney's multimedia hit High School Musical 3.

The enthusiasm for entertainment left the only news story in the top 10, the US election, in sixth place.

The real-life dramas of Amy Winehouse and Kate Moss also captured the public's imagination, but just one male celebrity featured in the list - the actor Heath Ledger, who died suddenly in January.

Oasis' inclusion in the list may be explained by the loyalty of their fans who spent much of this year looking forward to their seventh studio album, Dig Out Your Soul.

Kristof Fahy of Yahoo! Europe said: "It is fascinating to look back over the last year and see the stories, personalities and subjects that have captured our imagination, some of which are almost distant memories now, and some of which continue to be the hot topics of today."

Liam Gallagher's Coldplay Hate

Liam Gallagher doesn't "give a s**t" about Coldplay.

Despite the worldwide popularity of Chris Martin's group, the rocker insists Oasis are still the best band on the planet and wipe the floor with their rivals.

He fumed: "I don't give a s**t about Coldplay. We are the coolest band and we are the best f***ing band. We are the most important band. We may not be the biggest band in America but who would want that?"

Liam admits he is confused as to why Oasis are not bigger in the US, because their Stateside tours sell-out in record time.

He added to Loaded magazine: "We aren't as big as we could be in America because of our attitudes. We're miserable. The main reason is they obviously don't like us. But a lot of people over there do like us. We sold out Madison Square Garden in a minute and we tour there for a long time. But they don't buy our records. But America is not the be all and end all for Oasis. America is a country in a f***ing very big world, so if they don't like us, somewhere else will."

Oasis' latest album, 'Dig Out Your Soul', reached number 5 on the US Billboard 200 albums chart when it was released in October.

The Best Thing I've Heard All Year

The stars pick their best tracks of 2008

Noel & Liam Gallagher

Noel: The MGMT album, Oracular Spectacular. The video for 'Time To Pretend' was great. All the stuff about moving to Paris to shag supermodels and do heroin - not to condone heroin - it's like they want to own a Boeing 747 and be Led Zeppelin. Not plant trees at the local rabbit sanctuary. The Verve's single 'Love Is Noise', is the best thing they've ever done.

And Weller's album 22 Dreams! He takes such pride in what he does. He means it from the moment he gets up - it's scary. I was in the studio when some of it was recorded, and musically he does stuff I don't understand. It was mental. he and Steve Cradock talk in catchphrases. The only way anything makes sense is to get absolutely f**king arseholed.

Liam: The last album I bought was Duffy's Rockferry. That song 'Mercy', was alright. I like the Weller one; 'Push It Along' is a great tune.

I like The Last Shadow Puppets' album but it feels a bit grown-up.They're two young lads, but they look like little old men in Polo necks playing guitar, staring into each other's eyes like a couple of old farts. F*ck Off! I thought you were both in bands, anyway. Some of the tunes are all right.

Taken from Noel's tour diary for oasisinet.com

What happened there then? Seem to have missed a couple of days! That'll teach me to try keeping up with Ricky Hatton (safe journey home, lad - it's been a fuckin' pleasure!).

Been in Guadalajara for the last 48 hours (or is it 24? Fuck knows, I can't remember).

Met a woman at Mexico airport who asked me could I get her son any tickets for last night's gig.

"Tickets? Not my bag, love. I can put him on the guest list though?

"Tell him to bring i.d." I said. "Just in case there's any problemos".

"I.d.?" says the woman. "He has no i.d.. He's only 6!!"

SIX!!?

City won away in Europe. Wonders never cease, etc. Fuck that "orange" kit though. Actually, its official title is "Blaze"! Either way, it's horrible. Get rid.

Couldn't tell you what the show was like last night. The crowd were so loud I couldn't hear much of anything else. They seemed to enjoy it so it's all good, I expect.

Incidentally, I may have tasted the greatest can of Guinness of all time last night. Quite unbelievable.

Just about to fly to Monterey. Not the one where they had that festival in the 60s (that's in California), but the real one about 5 hours from here.

Gotta plane to catch.

Hasta luego.

GD.

Rock's Biggest Egos

It's time to admit the truth. You will never be a rock star. You care too much about what people think. Yeah, you make outlandish comments from time to time, but you do it under some pseudonym on a comment board to make it easy. You wouldn't go on national TV and say stuff like, "I'm the voice of this generation." That's the difference between your ego and a rock star ego. Your ego has a lowercase "e." People like Kanye West have E-G-O-S.

West claims he's the voice of his generation. He compares himself to Michael Jordan. He bitches loudly and publicly when he doesn't win awards. He's not afraid to use his real name. Whether or not he is his generation’s defining voice, it’s clear that he definitely has its biggest ego.

But should it be any other way? Of course not. Rock ’n’ roll is not about modesty. It's about being the loudest one in the room. If some stupid stuff gets said along the way, well, that's just the price of admission. Shoot the mouth off first, explain yourself later. Or don't. That's even better. Rock stars don't need to give any explanations.

Here are the five biggest egos in rock history. Why are they the biggest? Because I say so. I don't need to explain myself. I am the blogger of this generation.

The Top Five Biggest Egos:

BONO
Any dude who can meet with world leaders one weekend and then have two 19-year olds sit on his lap the next has a BIG ego. Bono's life is dedicated to bigness. He sings big anthems, not songs. He's out to save rock ’n’ roll and the world. He's not just a rock star; he’s a messiah, at least to himself. And, yes, I'm a little jealous.

JOHN LENNON
How huge was John Lennon's ego? He said his band was bigger than Jesus. What more proof do you need? Even Kanye hasn’t gone that far. By the way, this week the Vatican finally forgave Lennon for his 1966 dis. Those guys can hold a grudge.

NOEL & LIAM GALLAGHER
Oasis' brothers spent most of the '90s claiming they were the best band in the world and boasting how they saved British rock from ruin. They also spent a lot of time writing songs "inspired" by a lot of other British rock. It takes a big ego to remake Beatles songs and call them your own.

MADONNA
Madonna's ego is so big she believes that she can actually stop time. The Material Girl is on a never-ending quest to be forever twenty-something. Her bionic limbs are the first step toward immortality. Her insistence on pretending to be the teen pop star of the moment is the second step. The third? It probably will have something to do with her next boy toy.

TERENCE TRENT D'ARBY
You might not remember this late-'80s nouveau R&B artist. He made a debut album in 1987 that many thought was brilliant, especially him. D'Arby liked it so much he announced that he was going to be bigger than the Beatles. That's why you don't remember him. The Beatles saying they're bigger than Jesus? OK. Emerging R&B star saying he's bigger than the Beatles? Not OK.

Big Egos Honorable Mention:

ROBBIE WILLIAMS
He named his album The Ego Has Landed. In reality, Williams’ ego — and career — has landed everywhere but the U.S., where he remains largely a cult figure.

GENE SIMMONS
Is there anything Simmons won't slap a KISS logo on?

AXL ROSE
Two words: Chinese Democracy.

MICHAEL JACKSON
He dubbed himself "The King of Pop.” He made an album called Invincible. Both claims may still ring true in Bahrain, where Jacko recently lived. Go where the ego can stay big.

Exclusive Oasis Rehearsal Gig Video

I have a real treat in store for Oasis fans.

Here is an exclusive sneak peak of Manc legends Liam and Noel Gallagher at a rehearsal gig in London earlier this year.

The brothers - well known for their prickly relationship - belt out smash hit single Cigarettes And Alcohol in front of just 100 people.

It's rare to see the boys perform in such an intimate environment.

But they shine like the true pros that they are.

Oasis' new single I'm Outta Time goes on sale on Monday December 1.

Pop Quiz: Noel Gallagher

You may not have noticed, but Oasis returned a few months ago with its first decent album in ages, "Dig Out Your Soul." After getting burned so many times, it's understandable that the mouthy British rock band's fans have thinned out since its mid-'90s heyday. But the Gallagher brothers can still deliver killer quotes and make a nice racket in big venues, which makes them as valuable as ever. We spoke with guitarist Noel Gallagher, 41, shortly after he was attacked onstage in Canada. He couldn't comment on the incident but was happy to talk about the reception that the new album is getting. Oasis plays Wednesday at Oakland's Oracle Arena.

Q: Did you read the reviews of "Dig Out Your Soul" or is that something you generally avoid?

A: Oh, no, I don't avoid them. But by the same rule, I don't go out of my way to read them all. I've seen a few.

Q: They were cautiously optimistic.

A: They're just the same Oasis reviews to me: "Some songs are good, the s- ones are s-, why are they still f- making music?"

Q: It probably goes back to your third album, "Be Here Now." Critics gave it such great reviews before realizing that maybe the music wasn't actually all that great.

A: They've never forgiven us for that. I'm quite proud of that. Yeah, so, I've read a few. They still do that thing where they slag you off for your lyrics, yet they print the wrong lyrics. It's like, hang on a minute, you're printing your f- lyrics, you're not printing mine. That's not what it says on the f- song, you doofus.

Q: Does it really make a difference?

A: No, it doesn't. I'm not sure what the overall goal is of a review. What is its point? Is it to guide people through the quagmire for them to say you should really be listening to this kind of music? If one has four stars and one has got three, does that mean if you're cursed with a choice in a record store you should buy the one with four and not the one with three? Is that what it is?

Q: Have you ever bought a record based on a review?

A: I've bought one or two, and I'm at pain to say this, but they were all f- great.

Q: There you go.

A: No, the reviews weren't great, but the albums were great. I read a review, and if it mentions anything about the Beatles or the Stones or the Stooges or the Kinks, I'm like, "Well, I'm f- buying that." The albums I bought were American albums, funny enough.

Q: How about your live shows? People moan that you just stand there. Have you ever suggested to your brother Liam that he make a little bit more effort onstage, maybe watch a few old Rolling Stones videos?

A: God, have you seen that film "Shine a Light"? Well, Mick Jagger takes it to the next level, man. It's f- ludicrous. But, no, Liam's turned the standing-still thing into a bit of an art form. We can't all be jumping around like f- Jumping Jack Flash, can we? Would it work if Liam was like Mick Jagger? No, it f- wouldn't.

Francis Rossi: Oasis Aren't Rock 'N Roll Stars

What have Oasis done to rattle the golden oldies?

A string of rock veterans have been queuing up to pick a fight with the Gallagher brothers recently.

Last week I told you how Simply Red frontman Mick Hucknall said he blamed Noel and Liam for giving t’North a bad name.

Now it is Status Quo's turn. They say although Oasis may sing a song called Rock ’N’ Roll Star they don’t know how to rock.

Francis Rossi reckons the Gallaghers are not a patch on him and fellow Quo legend Rick Parfitt.

Francis rants: “We’re from a generation of acts that are very physical, we put physicality into it.

“But some of the younger bands don’t want to put that physical commitment in, either because it’s not cool at the moment or whatever.

“What always comes to mind is Oasis. They call themselves a rock band and they stand there looking at the floor. Bored s***less they look.I’m not saying they’re a bad band, but that to me isn’t rock ’n’ roll.”

Perhaps Francis should get his stonewashed denims along to an Oasis gig — I’ve never witnessed much boredom on show.

Francis, who with Rick has a new single It’s Christmas Time out next Monday, singled out Liam for most of the criticism, accusing him of being a one-trick pony.

He fumed: “That fella is still trying to pretend he’s 20 and he’s angry and really annoyed with his brother apparently.
Grumpy

“And he has got a really grumpy face and he has to stand there with the f*****g hump.

“Now, I don’t believe that anymore. I may have believed it some years ago but not still.”

Oasis have been nicknamed “Quoasis” in the past for ripping off Francis and Rick’s three chord hit formula.

So Liam will already be well armed with a few words of his own about Francis and his dodgy ponytail when he finds out.

In the same interview Francis claims Muse and Snow Patrol are his favourite bands.

Accusing Oasis of being dull but then loving Snow Patrol? Hmmm.

I think Francis is a cracking character but Liam will have a field day with this one.

Taken from Noel's tour diary for oasisinet.com

Well, Ricky turned up. Sven didn't. Mexico have lost a couple of games and apparently he's not flavour of the month. He thought it would be best if he didn't play out. He sends his regards though. Shame. I loved that man.

Gig wasn't all that, to be honest. We haven't played for 2 weeks and it felt like it.

Nursing a sore head today. Sat up most of the night drinking with Ricky. Feeling it now though. Good job we've got a day off. Not in any fit shape to do anything other than stay in bed and watch TV, which is exactly what I'm doing.

Flying to Guadalajara tonight. Gonna get me some room service now, so...hasta luego.

Scotland's biggest music mogul confirmed he is stepping down from management after 25 years in the industry to spend more time with his little girl.

Creation founder Alan McGee, 48, who discovered Oasis and tipped Glasvegas for stardom, confirmed the rumours yesterday.

Appearing on the Simon Mayo show on Radio Five Live, he said: "I used to travel up for Rangers' European games but my little girl's eight and I promised I would spend more time with her."
