Brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher of the British super group Oasis have landed at OR Tambo International Airport.

The band is in South Africa to play at the Coca-Cola Zero Fest in Johannesburg on Friday April 10, and in Cape Town on Monday, April 13.

News24 user Debbie Yazbek witnessed the group land on Thursday morning, and said they were whisked off to a Sandton Hotel in a fleet of cars with their Specialised Services Group (SSG) security detail minutes later.

Reporters could not get close to the band and Oasis have, according to concert organisers BIG Concerts, declined interview requests.

Liam Gallagher 'It's Oasis Till The Day I Die'

Despite a strained relationship with brother Noel, Liam Gallagher says he will never go solo

When it comes to the Gallaghers of Brit rock band Oasis, it could very well be that dysfunctional family dynamics work best for them.

But according to lead vocalist Liam Gallagher, he just 'doesn't know any better way to rock it out' than with his older brother Noel.

'I'm sure it definitely beats being in the same band as your sister,' he added in his trademark swaggering, nonchalant fashion.

The 36-year-old was speaking to the local media in a round-table interview last Sunday, before the band took to the stage for its concert at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

It was the band's second full-house gig here - the guys played at the same venue in 2006.

One of Britain's most successful rock acts with more than 50 million albums sold worldwide since their inception in 1991, Liam's publicly strained relationship with his guitarist brother Noel, 41, has always been the focus of much attention.

Last month, in an interview with Leeds-based music webzine Contact Music, Liam said: 'He (Noel) does his thing, and I do my thing.

'The only time we sort of bump into each other, and that's rarely, is on stage.'

He went on to elaborate: 'There're things he doesn't like about me and there're things I don't like about him. He can't change me, I wouldn't wanna change him.'

In September last year, following the release of the band's latest album Dig Out Your Soul, Liam didn't hold back either, when he outrightly criticised his brother's singing.

'I don't like Noel's voice' he reportedly blabbed to the English papers.

Disputes aside, it is essentially the music and the brothers' commitment to Oasis that have kept them going over the past 18 years, delivering rousing, melodic sing-a-long rock song after song for their passionate fans.

Besides Liam and Noel, Oasis also comprises bassist Andy Bell, 38; rhythm guitarist Gem Archer, 42; and drummer Chris Sharrock, 44.

When he was asked if the thought of going solo has ever crossed his mind, it was an affirmative 'no' from Liam with barely a hint of hesitation.

'It's Oasis till the day I die,' he said.

Liam said sometimes during the band's concerts, audience members would start chanting and stoking the brothers to fight onstage.

But he said he's generally not bothered by the taunts at all. 'We're too busy concentrating on our music,' he said with yet another shrug.

Nonchalance and candidness is in Liam's blood, evident not only on the topic of his brother.

Autographs

He scoffs at signing autographs, saying 'they freak him out'.

'I mean, what can you do with that piece of paper I've signed? It's just a piece of paper,' he said with a look of genuine incredulity on his face.

That same laidback attitude even translates to Pretty Green, the new clothing range he founded and designed for men. It is named after a song by UK punk band The Jam.

When asked about it, Liam said it was just something he did 'to keep his mind occupied', so that during the days when he's not making music, he 'won't be sitting around doing nothing'.

'Music and clothes are both important to me; no use being a great musician if you look like an idiot,' he said.

'But it's the same with my music, buy (my clothes) if you like it. If you don't fancy it, then don't. I'm not forcing it upon you.'

Thriller Named Greatest Album Ever

Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' has been named the Greatest Album Ever.

The pop superstar's landmark 1982 LP - which is the world's best-selling album - dominated a poll of MTV viewers, securing almost a third of the total vote.

Speaking about 'Thriller' - which was produced by Quincy Jones and features some of Jackson's best known hits, including 'Billie Jean', 'Beat It' and 'The Girl Is Mine' - MTV Base presenter Trevor Nelson said: 'I don't think there'll ever be another album like it in the history of music.

'There will never be a marriage of producer and artist, or songwriting and pop sensibility like that again. Due to the way people buy records now, there'll never be an album that sells as many copies.'

The list was compiled by music industry experts, artists, and bosses from the network's three UK channels - MTV2, VH1 and MTV Base.

More than 40,000 votes were cast by fans asked to choose their favourite album since 1981 from a shortlist of 26 LPs.

In a shock result, British R'n'B artist Craig David's debut effort 'Born To Do It' finished second with 12 per cent of the vote, beating Guns N' Roses' 1987 album 'Appetite For Destruction' into third place.

Craig, who received more votes than some of the world's biggest rap and R'n'B stars including Jay-Z and Kanye West, was overwhelmed by the result.

The '7 Days' singer said: 'I am very grateful to the viewers of MTV who have voted 'Born To Do It' as the second best album of all time - not only am I incredibly proud, it is an amazing achievement especially when I look at all the other albums in the top 100!'

British alternative rock band Radiohead secured fourth place with 'OK Computer', while the late Kurt Cobain's band Nirvana rounded off the top five with 'Nevermind'.

Oasis had two albums in the top ten - '(What's The Story) Morning Glory?' came sixth, while their 1994 debut 'Definitely Maybe' was seventh.

Following Noel and Liam Gallagher's records are U2's 'The Joshua Tree', the Arctic Monkeys' debut 'Whatever People say I Am, That's What I'm Not' and Amy Winehouse's 'Back to Black'.

MTV's 'Greatest Album Ever: The Results' will be broadcast on MTV1, MTV2, MTV Base and VH1 on April 11 at 9pm.

Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere

Taken from Noel's tour diary for oasisinet.com

Arrived in Hong Kong last night. Amazing place. You get access to the UK media here. It's really bad, man. In one sitting watching Sky News the doom and gloom is outrageous. Recession, recession, stabbings, corruption, murder, desolation, despair. What's happening? They actually have a debt counter on screen constantly monitoring "The Debt". Who's debt? Yours? Mine? You know it's bad when the fifth horseman of the apocalypse - Kay Burley - is interviewing pensioners on the deserted streets of Britain. Not all bad news though. Production of war materials is up. And paradoxically sales of chocolate are up!!! WAR AND CHOCOLATE?! It would seem our government have an iron fist and our people have a sweet tooth. I don't know what that means but it must mean something?

Have you seen the new Q Magazine? I assume it's the new one. The one with the "WORLD EXCLUSIVE" Green Day piece? Under the picture of the Green Day is a quote that says, "We are fire, chaos and revolution". Really? Which one's which then? I thought at least one of 'em was called Billy-Bob?!

In a bit.

Gnarls Barkley To Work With Oasis?

Gnarls Barkley star Cee-Lo is hoping the duo will be able to inject more rock into their music - by teaming up with British band Oasis.

The Crazy hitmakers are more famous for their funk/dance sound, but the vocalist is convinced a collaboration with the Wonderwall group would be major hit.

He says, "I've been checking out the new Oasis album and it's hot. When I was in London I got to hang out with Noel (Gallagher) and we had a big laugh. I'd like to do something iconic with them."

Gem Archer & Andy Bell Interview Coming Soon

Friend of the site Kenny had the opportunity to interview Gem and Andy on a wide range of subjects.

The interview was filmed we will be having a full transcript of it in a few days.

Meanwhile here is a little bit from the interview.

They are really looking forward to be doing the massive summer gigs, and there will be no new EP's or a 4th from Dig Out Your Soul. "But you never know", said Andy.

Unreleased song 'I Wanna Live In A Dream (In My Record Machine)' is still not done "right" and probably won't see the light of day anytime soon.

They admitted that they were disappointed with this albums single sales but it's the way the music industry is changing rapidly. Gem added that a few years ago DVD singles were all the rage, but now the rules of the game changed again.

Andy, Gem & Liam think it's important to have b-sides on singles, and that's why Noel put 'Swollen Hands' on the Falling Down single.

During the sound check for the Hong Kong show (Today) Noel sung 'Stop The Clocks' and one other unnamed track that did not have the same lyrics as the one recorded in Taipei City.

Thanks To Kenny: As soon as I receive the interview I will post it.

Hrmph. So City lost (again!). No surprise there. We were woeful though. What's happened to Robinho?

It properly pissed down here yesterday. Yer'actual tropical thunder storm. Beautiful.

Gig was splendid. Hot and sticky. It was 86 degrees at 11 o'clock at night. Nice. Does kind of mean that there tends to be a lot of flip-flops around!

Lot of British people out here which I'm always suspicious of. Don't know why. What are they doing here? Buying cheap handbags for fat birds back home? Dunno.

Talking of back home - what's going on, anything exciting? Haven't seen a paper for weeks. No bad thing. Is it true that Madonna is trying to buy Shaun-Wright Phillips from Man City? Say it ain't so!

I'm on the way to Hong Kong.

In a bit.

Kaiser Chiefs Have No Time For Noel Gallagher

No time for 'the bitter old man'

Kaiser Chiefs can't be bothered by Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher's slagging

CALL it an unwelcome coincidence. Tomorrow, Kaiser Chiefs will play its first gig in Singapore, following last night's concert by fellow British band Oasis.

But don't count on them to high five and get all chummy with one another.

There's not a chance of that happening, said guitarist Andrew 'Whitey' White, 34, to The New Paper over the phone from the band's hometown in Leeds.

'We have no time for him at all,' White said curtly. The 'him' refers to Noel Gallagher, Oasis' abrasive, outspoken lead guitarist.

'Music is an art, but unfortunately, he doesn't appreciate music for what it is.'

White was responding to Gallagher's remarks about his band.

In an interview last year on BBC programme Newsbeat, Gallagher shot his mouth off and blurted, 'The Monkees haven't split up, they're just going under the name of the Kaiser Chiefs.'

The Monkees are a pop-singing quartet formed in the 1960s, known for its cheery, sing-a-long tunes.

To make things worse, it's not the first time Oasis slammed Kaiser Chiefs in public.

In 2005, in an interview with popular music magazine NME, Oasis vocalist Liam Gallagher called the band 'a bad Blur' - in reference to acclaimed alternative rockers and former chart rivals Blur.
According to White, he used to 'really respect the Gallagher brothers as musicians'.

However, in light of the recent name-calling, he called the whole episode 'nasty'.

'He (Noel Gallagher) started it out of the blue and it's really unfair, because we haven't said anything at all,' said White. 'It just shows what a bitter old man he has become.'

Music lovers were charmed with Kaiser Chief's unpretentious, fun blend of punk, disco and funk, a throwback to the new wave movement of the 1970s.

The band's second studio album, Yours Truly, Angry Mob, released in 2007, gave the guys further accolades - their first UK No1 single Ruby, as well as a No1 standing on the UK album charts.

However, following Kaiser Chiefs' latest offering, Off With Their Heads, the five lads from Leeds have been making headlines for the wrong reasons.

It was reported earlier in UK tabloid Daily Star, that it was 'planning to go on a hiatus' because the band members were 'disappointed by the poor performance of their new single, as well as the album'.

White scoffed at the claims.

'It's funny how one particular publication spins a story, and all the other media promptly pick it up. Our new album's doing amazingly well...'

He has the statistics to back him up - Off With Their Heads peaked at No2 on the UK album charts.

Putting negative news aside, the band is looking forward to its upcoming gig in Singapore, said White.

'We are a fantastic live band and it's going to be one of the best rock 'n' roll shows you'd ever experience,' he promised, sounding robust with confidence.
