Noel Gallagher On The Stone Roses

Timing is everything in music; The Stone Roses album came out bang on midday on the right day in right year in the right decade- unbelievable timing. When it came out I just thought "at last!" We used to go and see them all the time and I thought "I want that set list recorded as a record so I can play it at home". So it was kind of a relief- it was so long in the making - we'd been waiting five years for it!

Obviously it's their finest ever moment. If I only recorded two albums and one of them was this debut album, I would be fucking pleased with that.

The whole album is so well executed. It's the exact expression of what that group was about. It was so fucking on the money that it could have been recorded tomorrow morning.

If you want to know what British pop music sounded like in 1989 then put that album on and if you want to know what great classic British pop music is all about in the bigger picture, you should put it on as well- it's an amazing feat to capture the time of the late 80s and then 20 years later you can still put it on and it still sounds right. It still says what's great about British music.

Musically its painting pictures from a time, and I don't just mean 1989- it also harks back to the 60's that I am obsessed with, yet still without being retro.

They could have only come from Manchester. The attitude and the swagger is one thing, the clothes is another, but to make music that is so of its fucking time, but that is also timeless could only happen in Manchester - it just doesn't really happen anywhere else. This album, and the band, have achieved mythical status. They inspired us.

If you’re going to reissue “the greatest album of all time” (NME), you might as well do it in style. The Stone Roses debut album is re-released on August 10th in 4 deluxe formats to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of its release. Prior to that, their Silvertone singles will be reissued - one a week - on 7” vinyl and digitally with their original sleeve artwork. Starting with ‘Elephant Stone’ on the 6th July, the set culminates with the bands first top 5 hit, the epic ‘One Love’, and due to demand Sony will also release ‘Fools Gold’ on CD.

With the Roses being such a seminal act, there is no end to the content that could appear in the chart and is a perfect way for fans to re-live the memories of the band.

Each iTunes bundle will also feature previously unheard recordings from the band.

Oasis And The Saturdays Joins A Host Of Big Names At Free, Month-Long iTunes Festival

Oasis, The Saturdays and Paolo Nutini are among the varied line-up at this year's iTunes festival.

The month-long event will see live music performances for free every night of July at the Roundhouse in Camden, north London.

It kicks off tonight with gigs from Jamie T and Slow Club.

It is the third anniversary of the festival, which has moved from the nearby venue Koko and now features more bands and a longer run than in the past.

Bloc Party, Mika, Snow Patrol, Flo Rida and Kasabian are also on the bill, which boasts more than 60 acts.

Continuing the trend for tours from bands that were hits in the Eighties, rock group Simple Minds and Norwegian pop sensations A-Ha will perform.

La Roux, currently at number one in the UK charts with single Bulletproof, will fly the flag for up and coming acts.

Tickets cannot be purchased, but can be won for free.

Those who want to attend one of the gigs should register with iTunes, find the band they want to see and hit the 'win tickets' button.

Each performance will be recorded and available for download on the iTunes site, and there will be live audio broadcasts on Facebook.

This year could be the time to shine for The Saturdays, who are performing at the festival on Monday, July 27, as fellow girl group Girls Aloud take a year's hiatus to pursue solo projects.

The girl band are making plans already, with Sarah Harding and Nadine Coyle hoping for acting careers.

Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts are bidding to become businesswomen, and X Factor star Cheryl Cole hoping for solo success.

On This Day In Oasis History

Heathen Chemistry is the fifth studio album by English rock band Oasis, first released on July 1st 2002. It sold over 1 million copies in the UK, ending up in the top ten best selling albums of 2002, and about 4 million worldwide as of 2005.

Heathen Chemistry was received more warmly than the previous Oasis album, Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, by both fans and critics alike. It spawned four singles, each of which made the top three in the UK charts: "The Hindu Times", their sixth number one single in the UK, "Stop Crying Your Heart Out", a song made famous as it was played on the BBC when the English football team were knocked out of the World Cup, the Double A-Side, sung by Noel — "Little By Little/She Is Love" — and "Songbird", the first single written by Liam.

This album was the last one to feature the band's longtime drummer, Alan White, who left in early 2004, with Noel Gallagher claiming White's commitment to the band wasn't up to scratch. He was effectively replaced with Ringo Starr's son, Zak Starkey.

Album History

The title of the album, according to Noel, came from a t-shirt he bought in Ibiza which featured a logo reading, "The Society of Heathen Chemists". Similarly, the name of the first single, "The Hindu Times", originated from a logo on a t-shirt that read the same thing, which Noel saw during a photo shoot for GQ's 100 Greatest Guitarists edition. The name was given to the track when it was just an instrumental, as all the instrumentals of this album were given actual titles as opposed to "Instrumental 1", etc., and the name stuck once the track was finished.

The album was recorded during 2001–early 2002, and was the first studio album written and recorded with the two new members, bassist Andy Bell and rhythm guitarist Gem Archer. Bell and Archer wrote one track each, and Liam Gallagher contributed three, thus the album signalled the end of Noel Gallagher songs dominating Oasis albums (though Liam had contributed "Little James" to Standing on the Shoulder of Giants).

The release of the album was overshadowed by an internet leak of all 11 tracks almost three months prior to release. However, listeners of the commercially released album heard slight differences to two tracks, "Little By Little" and "Better Man".

Glasvegas Guitarist Rab Allen Had To Restrain His Mum From Flirting With Liam Gallagher

Glasvegas guitarist Rab Allen had to restrain his mum when she flirted with Liam Gallagher, 36.

The Scottish rockers have been supporting Oasis and took their mums to watch them.

Rab told me: “My mum put on lipstick specially. It was a little embarrassing as she sat backstage flirting while queues of people waited to talk to Liam.”

Meanwhile, frontman James Allen, 29, reckons he can learn something from the Manc brothers.

He said: “They waited in the corridor for us to go on. I wouldn’t do that for any band.”

Bogus Oasis Shirts Go To Charity

Hundreds of unofficial Oasis T-shirts which were sold outside the band's Manchester gigs are being donated to an international aid project.

Trading standards officers at the city council seized more than 1,300 counterfeit tops from illegal traders during the three gigs this month.

The council said they are being sent to International Aid Trust charity.

The charity removes logos before sending them to needy people in Eastern Europe, Africa and India.

A further 654 counterfeit posters will also be recycled.

The city council's trading standards officers have seized more than 56,000 counterfeit items since April, with many recycled.

CDS and DVDs are wiped and re-used and bottles with counterfeit vodka are recycled.

The Oasis concerts were the biggest events at Heaton Park since the Pope's visit in 1982.

BBH New York Wins A Titanium Lion For 'Oasis Dig Out Your Soul'

Innovative album launch wins big at the Cannes Lion International Advertising Festival.

New York is thrilled to announce that their integrated campaign, "Oasis Dig Out Your Soul," took home one of the top prizes at the Cannes Lion International Advertising Festival when it was awarded the Titanium Lion.

"Oasis Dig Out Your Soul" was an integrated campaign that resulted from a partnership with Warner Bros. Music and BBH New York client, NYC & Company. BBH New York was approached by Warner Bros. Music and asked to help launch a new album by the legendary rock band Oasis.

The agency conceived of the idea of a reverse album launch and they arranged for Oasis to teach over twenty New York City street musicians the unreleased songs from their new album, "Dig Out Your Soul."

After learning the new songs, the musicians - all members of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Music Under New York Program - then took to the streets of New York to perform the songs while the acclaimed directors, The Malloys, documented the entire event.

The campaign fundamentally re-invented the album launch so that new music started out on city streets by design, rather than winding up there by happenstance.

"Winning a Titanium Lion takes me back to the first moment I heard this idea, and it confirms exactly why I was so excited by it," said Kevin Roddy, CCO of BBH New York. "Our NYC & Company client and Warner Bros. Music were incredibly brave to go forward with us on this idea and I am thrilled that their bravery was rewarded."

The "Oasis Dig Out Your Soul" campaign has had an amazing award season and the Cannes Titanium Lion joins The Grandy award, the Next Award from the AICP and a gold pencil from the One Show. The campaign won another major prize earlier in the festival when it was awarded a Gold Lion in the Outdoor category and a Silver Film Lion.

The success of "Oasis Dig Out Your Soul" is a result of the totally integrated nature of the campaign and the innovative use of social media and on-line tools.

Oasis fans were able to find the live performances of the street musicians thanks to a special page on the NYC & Company website that used Google Maps and Earth to track where the performances were happening in the city.

Fans were encouraged to film the street musicians using their own recording devices and to post the user generated content on a unique You Tube channel dedicated to the Oasis album launch.

The campaign was a huge success and helped the Oasis album debut at number one in the UK and number five in the US, making "Dig Out Your Soul" Oasis' first top 10 album in ten years.

"Oasis Dig Out Your Soul in the Streets" was the first HD documentary to debut on MySpace Video. The full documentary can be viewed at the following MySpace Video here:
