Serge Pizzorno Believes Rock And Roll Is Dying Out

Kasabian rocker Serge Pizzorno believes rock and roll is dying out and his band and the Arctic Monkeys are the only real rock bands left in the country.

The Kasabian rocker bemoaned the state of the British music industry, insisting his group and the Arctic Monkeys are the only "proper" rock bands left after the split of Oasis earlier this year.

He said: "We never actually said we were the biggest band in the UK but what we did say is that now, with Oasis splitting up, there aren't many proper rock n roll bands left. Can you name one?

"There are only us and the Arctic Monkeys. All the rest of them have released s**t albums or didn't care enough in the first place."

The 'Fire' hitmakers are currently on their biggest UK tour to date but Serge insists they aren't intimidated by the size of the crowds.

He added: "I'm not scared at all about playing arenas but it's a difficult thing - you've got to be careful. They're big buildings so you've got to put on a show but also keep the vibe going.

"I think it gives us more of a chance to do everything bigger - make it a real psychedelic trip. It will be a beautiful show."

Ricky Hatton Admits He Chinned Liam Gallagher

At the weekend Hatton - who's said to be worth £40million - attended the launch of his mate Liam Gallagher's new clothing line in London. But he admits he chinned the Oasis frontman for ripping off his own fashion range.

Ricky laughs: "I couldn't believe how similar Liam's stuff was to mine. It's all typical Mancunian clothes with floppy hats and the likes. Liam calls me his fashion rival - but he's not in my class."

Rihanna's 'Umbrella' Voted Decade's Best Song

R&B singer Rihanna has beaten off competition from stars like Madonna and Britney Spears after her track 'Umbrella' has been voted the best of the decade in a new survey.

The 21-year-old has admitted she's wracked with nerves as she prepares for a show in London next week which will be her first solo concert since the violent bust-up with ex-boyfriend Chris Brown in February this year, Contactmusic reported.

But the pop star will be pleased to know that her British fans have picked her song and music video for 'Umbrella' as the best of the last 10 years, according to a survey by BT media.

Second on the list was 'All The Things She Said' by Russian duo t.A.T.u followed by Avril Lavigne's 'Sk8er Boi'.

Pop princess Spears was placed fourth for her hit single 'Everytime' while rock band Oasis bagged the fifth position for their track 'The Importance Of Being Idle'.

British songwriter, actor Will Young was ranked sixth for 'Leave Right Now' followed by 'Hot and cold' by Katy Perry.

Troubled star Amy Winehouse raced ahead of Madonna as she bagged the eight position for her song 'Back To Black' while Material Girl's 'Hung up' ranked ninth. The tenth on the list was Kylie Minogue and her song 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head'.

‘Bonehead’ On Life With The Vortex And The Demise Of Oasis

He spent eight years in Britain’s biggest band – but Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs is going back to basics with his new outfit.

The former Oasis guitarist even drove the tour bus when The Vortex recently toured Europe.

“It was us against Europe,” grins the 44-year-old who quit Oasis in 1999. “We spent a couple of weeks in Germany and Holland, and it was brilliant. It was more of a feeler for the band, letting them see how it is to be in each other’s pockets 24/7 in a different land.”

Bonehead joined The Vortex full time in January after a string of guest appearances with the band.

“I got to know the bass player when I was co-presenting a radio show for BBC Manchester,” he recalls. “I went to see them play and really liked what I saw and heard.

“They asked me to play a couple of songs with them when they performed in Manchester and it became a regular thing. At the end of last year they asked me to join full time and I jumped at it.”

Bonehead’s eight years in Oasis means he has a wealth of experience to share with the younger members of The Vortex.

“I’m the old man of the band, the others are in their early 30s,” he laughs. “I’ve been giving them advice, simple things like booking a hotel for days off and getting a van. It’s always ‘leave it to Bonehead’. But I’ve added a dimension soundwise as well. It’s now more polished and bigger.”
After building up a following in Manchester and London, where they had a residency at Alan McGee’s Death Disco club, The Vortex are undertaking a UK tour.

Bonehead says that for him there’s an element of deja vu about the band whose line-up is completed by singer Mike Price, guitarist Maz Behdjet, bassist Nick Repton, backing singer Jaxx and beats man Sean O’Donnell.

“People say we’ve got a Manchester sound, whatever that is, but it was their attitude I was attracted to. It reminded me of the feeling I had in 1993 with Oasis. There’s a real gang mentality, a real passion.”

He says there is no parallel between him joining The Vortex and Noel Gallagher joining, and taking over, his band, Oasis.

“When Noel came into Oasis, me and Liam had three songs written between us. Noel came in with Live Forever, Round Our Way, Cigarettes & Alcohol and Rock & Roll Star all written. With The Vortex I walked into a band that was already armed with songs. There’s only one song in the set that’s mine.”

And his verdict on Oasis’s demise?

“I’m just sad it came to an end with a fight. I wish they could have gone out with a bow – ‘Thank you, goodnight. We were Oasis’.”

Ricky Hatton’s Feeling Pretty Green After Night Out With Liam Gallagher

I can guess who was feeling Pretty Green yesterday - Ricky Hatton.

The Hitman rocked up at the official launch of Oasis star Liam Gallagher's clothing line on Saturday night.

And the boxer spent most of the night wobbling about on the dancefloor at the London bash.

One party-goer said: "Ricky owned the dance floor all night. He was the star of the show. Sometimes he just stood there on his own. It was funny but a bit tragic. He was off his face."

It was an odd mix of folk at the Gore Hotel, in Kensington. I was shocked to see This Morning's seemingly-sweet host Holly Willoughby chatting to Liam's missus Nicole Appleton and on a tear-up with Kasabian and Richard Ashcroft.

Another surprise guest was Sugababe Heidi Range, there with her bloke Dave Berry.

One person noticeable by his absence though was, of course, Liam's brother NOEL.

Liam spent most of the night chatting to Miles Kane from The Last Shadow Puppets. There's talk he's trying to persuade Miles to form a band with him.

A source said: "Liam was being really passionate. It looked like he was recruiting."

Pretty Green designer Liam also paid a backhanded compliment to Kasabian's Serge Pizzorno.

He said: "He knows how to put an outfit together. He's got some style but he still needs a few tips from me."

Seemed like a top night. Liam even mixed his own tequila cocktail for the party.

It was probably too many of those which did for Ricky.

Last I heard they were all still at it in Liam's penthouse room at 8am yesterday.

It seems the rocker is showing no signs of slowing down.

Twisted Wheel On Oasis And Living The Dream

There’s no secret to the rise of Twisted Wheel, “We just make good honest rock ’n’ roll music that people clock on to,” says bassist Richard Lee, who prefers to be known as Ricky.

Only his mum calls him Richard. And hasn’t Mrs Lee’s son done his mum proud?

The Mancunian three-piece, Lee, drummer Adam Clarke and front man Jonny Brown, are on a headline tour off the back of a summer where they made their name.

Their support slot on what would turn out to be Oasis’ last hurrah will go down in history.

In some ways it could Twisted Wheel’s claim to fame but they’re determined to make their own name in this business. Doing that hasn’t been easy.

They headlined The Masque in Liverpool on Friday night as part of the city’s fantastic music week.

Their happy to be in the city but the band’s Manchester roots lead to an inevitable comparison with Oasis.

“To us Oasis were the reason we started playing music and why we got into it.

“When they came along you could identify with it because it was lads from Manchester who dress normal and are proper rock and roll stars.”

A dream come true then to support them over the summer but Lee doesn’t remember seeing any signs that a split was on the cards.

“You couldn't really sense anything but then we hadn't seen it five years before so we didn't have anything to compare it to. But it’s a big loss.”

Twisted Wheel's sound has inevitably drawn comparisons with Oasis but has been described perhaps more accurately as a “confrontational, folk inflected brand of garage rock”.

Comparisons to The Jam and The Clash have also been mentioned in reviews. It’s an honour no doubt but Lee doesn’t have much time for stuff like this. They’re just a people’s band.

Liam Gallagher Turns Out For Local Football Team

A football side poses with a surprise new signing - rocker Liam Gallagher.

Liam, 37, was secretly asked to play for bankrupt Berkhamsted FC in a fund-raising game.

And 200 fans saw the Manchester City supporter star in a 5-2 win over The Arcadia Group at his side's Hertfordshire ground.

Paul Smith, boss of club sponsor Stoneforce, said: "We recently refurbished Liam's house and I asked him to play. It was great to see everyone's faces when he came.

"He raced up and down the wing and came close to scoring a few times. He's pretty fit. Then he stayed until 1am drinking and telling stories.

"He even played the lads new songs. He had a great time.

Noel Gallagher Says No To Going Solo

Noel Gallagher has ditched plans for a solo album now Oasis are no more.

It is more then six months since the guitarist and songwriter hinted to Q Magazine that he was working on a solo project after a show at London's Albert Hall.

But now he say's "I'm not doing a solo album as I'm taking time off.

"I'm enjoying bumming around watching Coronation Street. I much prefer it to East Enders. That show is too depressing for me."

Noel was at the Music Industry Trust dinner and, with his arm wrapped firmly around Playlist's Natalie Edwards, he told her: "I never tire of being told I'm a legend or people wanting their photo taken with me.

"As long as it's with girls like you."

What a charmer.

We Can See It Now - Neu! News

"My current new favourite German band of all time. Proper tour bus music. Spiritual!!"

That was how Noel described the band Neu! this time last year.

Oasis are big fans of Neu! and you can hear their influence on songs such as 'Falling Down' which Noel described as "3 chords, 1 note - Krautpop!!"

So it was nice to read today on The Quietus that Michael Rother - legendary guitarist and founding member of Neu! - praised the Oasis track 'Can Y'See It Now? (I Can See It Now!!)' which was featured on the Neu!-influenced compilation 'Brand Neu!' earlier this year.

"I very much enjoyed listening to that compilation. To be honest, I also quite like the Oasis track. I mention that because I read in some reviews that they got a bit of a beating. It was of course surprising to read that Noel Gallagher expressed his admiration for Neu! and that he convinced his brother to adopt some of the ideas. When I heard that Oasis single 'The Shock Of The Lightning', I immediately understood the idea behind that, the fast-forward movement, the strong surge in combination with a Beatles-esque sound. To me that's an interesting combination, Neu! crossed with Beatles ideas."

If you're unfamiliar with Neu!'s music then you should definitely check them out. Noel's particular favourite is 'Hallogallo' off their debut album, but you can't really go wrong with any of their albums.

Noel Gallagher: I'm Quitting London For Manchester

Noel Gallagher has revealed he is quitting London to head back up north because the capital “has no vibe”.

The 42-year-old star announced his plans at the Music Industry Awards held last night.

The revelation comes just over two months since Oasis split after a bust-up between the Gallagher brothers before a gig in Paris on 28 August. Noel said he “could not go on working with Liam a day longer”.

Speaking at the awards at the Grosvenor House hotel, Noel said: “I'm leaving London to go back up north, to Manchester. I've been advised to do a Rod Stewart, as in a tax exile, but I don't want to do it. But London has lost its spark.”

The Mancunian songwriter moved to the capital in the wake of the band's smash hit 1994 album Definitely Maybe. The news is the clearest sign yet that Noel is now settling down with girlfriend Sara MacDonald and their two-year-old son Donovan.

Bee Gee Singers Reveal Their Feud

Bee Gee singers have revealed that infighting between the Gibb brothers caused the group to split.

At times the fighting got so bad that their parents had to intervene. But now they want to get back after their band mate Maurice died. The brothers also compared their infighting to the Gallagher brothers of Oasis who also recently spilt, mirror.co.uk reports.

“They’re just copying us. Oh, we’ve been through all that. To be honest, I’m surprised they stayed together for as long as they did and I think they’ve gone as far as they can be together,” 59-year-old Robin said.

“They remind us of ourselves, but on a more physically violent level. We’ve been there and we came full circle,” 63-year old Barry added.
