Liam Gallagher: 'Roses Were Right To Reunite'

Liam Gallagher has urged critics not to challenge The Stone Roses for breaking their promise to never reunite.

Since their break-up in 1996, the British rockers have constantly rebutted rumours of a comeback, with bass player Gary 'Mani' Mounfield speaking out as recently as April (11) to say he was "disgusted" by the latest reports.

But last week, the Fools Gold hitmakers performed an about-turn and announced they are reforming for a world tour next year (12) - and former Oasis star Gallagher, who is a close friend of the band, has urged critics not to accuse them of hypocrisy.

He tells Nme magazine, "I think people should just chill out man, and let them get back together. Reporters are gonna be like, 'You said this, you said that.' Who gives a f**k, man, they're there, and they're doing it, and everyone should be happy, because they're a mega band.

"It's just a waste of time all that, 'Well, you said this...'. Alright, well I've f**king changed my mind, you f**king little spotty c**t. People change their f**king minds, man."

Liam Gallagher Wants Stone Roses Support Slot

Liam Gallagher is eyeing a support slot at the Stone Roses' comeback gigs next year (12), insisting he'd "sell hot dogs" at the event just for the chance to be involved.

The cult British band smashed the U.K. concert sales record last week (21Oct11) when all 240,000 tickets for their reunion shows sold out in less than an hour.

The announcement of three gigs in Manchester, England has sparked speculation over which acts the rockers will choose to support them - and former Oasis singer Gallagher has already put his new band Beady Eye forward for a slot on the bill.

He tells Nme magazine, "Without a doubt (I'd support them). I'd sell hot dogs. Without a f**king doubt, I'd f**king love to. It's their gig, they can do what the f**k they want - but with these gigs they should put on a load of bands, man.

"Because there's nothing better than someone playing really good before you come on because it gives you a f**king kick, you know what I mean. If you're on with a load of DJs, well, I'm sure they'll be up for it, but you need a couple of great bands with great singers, having it, and then by the end of the night, it's just f**king on."

Should Beady Eye Play Oasis Songs?

Perhaps the biggest mistake Liam Gallagher has made with Beady Eye – a band containing four-fifths of Oasis's final lineup – is to refuse to play any Oasis songs live. Not only have Beady Eye's live shows consequently lacked the fist-punching highs of his former band's sets, but too distinct a line was drawn between the two acts, leaving Liam struggling to bring Oasis's fan base along with him. Not so Noel Gallagher. On Sunday night, Liam's elder brother performed several Oasis songs at the first live outing of his High Flying Birds solo project, in Dublin. As fan-filmed videos at youtube.com/beadyeysis prove, even played acoustically and sung by the wrong Gallagher, Supersonic and Wonderwall can prompt mass, beery singalongs. So, too, do the best of Noel's new songs – particularly the barrelling AKA… What a Life. Not surprising, then, that Noel has just announced a date at London's 20,000-capacity O2 Arena, while Beady Eye have yet to sell out November's 5,000-capacity Brixton Academy show.

Noel Gallagher Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere (Vol.2) Part Two

Yes comrades.

How art thou? So... we fuckin' smashed it, eh?

It was a nice surprise, the HFB album going in at #1. Thanks for that. A proud moment. Commiserations to young Mr. Cardle, whom I met the other night. Nice lad. Lovely hat AND scarf!!

The big story of the last few days was, of course, the righteous Man City's total and utter humiliation of The Evil Empire. A result so shocking my 4 year old, who knows nothing about anything that isn't a dinosaur, said, "That's really bad, isn't it dad?" To which I laughed into his face and raised him aloft like a human world cup until he requested that I put him down. A result so awe-inspiring that it rendered the 1st NGHFB gig almost irrelevant.

Was it any good? Don't ask me. I felt like it flew by in about 30 mins! I enjoyed it, mind. It did leave me with a bit of food for thought regarding the set list. All good though.

Legged it straight off stage to the airport where my private jet THE G-FIRM was fired up and ready to fly home to London. Had to be on top form at them Q awards. Got myself a nice little Q ICON award and more importantly, and somewhat surprisingly, a blimmin' standing ovation!!!! I liked it a lot!!!! More of those, please.

Spent the rest of the day drinking and smoking my arse off. Which meant yesterday was spent on the couch watching the repeats of the total and utter humiliation of Man United (which was where aforementioned child-lifting took place).

I am currently on a high-speed train up north heading to the great city of Manchester. Playing the Apollo tonight. Coming on to 'Blue Moon'. Should be interesting!!!

IN A BIT!

Noel Gallagher, High Flying Birds, Olympia Dublin, Review

4 Stars out of Five

Noel Gallagher had confessed to feeling jittery ahead of the live debut of his High Flying Birds project. Apparently the thought of playing mid-tempo Beatles-esque guitar pop to a room of swooning fans was enough to bring him out in a cold sweat.

Hang on, cynics will mutter, hasn’t he been doing precisely the same thing with Oasis for the past decade and a half? The difference, of course, is that this time it’s Noel Alone. Two years after his relationship with Liam imploded in a firestorm of expletives (and, if rumours are to be believed, airborne guitars), his new ensemble is finally here in the flesh, ready to spread its wings on stage for the first time. Since Liam’s Beady Eye turned out to be all swagger, no songs, the opportunity to prove he was the heart and soul of Oasis all along is within grasp.

Accompanied by a brisk light show and an unfussy four-piece group – he has described High Flying Birds as a collective but, really, it’s a glorified solo vehicle – the nerves Noel had been predicting in interviews were nowhere in evidence. Perhaps the edge was taken off by his new album’s romp to the top of the charts. Either that or the stage fright was buried beneath an avalanche of beetle-browed intensity. Gallagher could have been frowning for England: if they start handing out awards for scowling, he’d best invest in a fresh mantelpiece.

The new record, called simply Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, is a satisfying blend of the surprising and familiar. Occasional experimental flourishes – there are unlikely winks towards Eighties electronica and mid-Nineties indie pop – are offset by Gallagher’s patented spit and sawdust song-writing. Above all, the album is electrified by the sense anything is possible. Noel still isn’t much cop at lyrics ( inevitably he rhymes of “gun” with “sun”) but, for the first time since the late Nineties, you get the impression he is writing for himself rather than a vast expectant fan base.

True to his word, he threw in several Oasis tracks, starting off none too subtly with It’s Good To Be Free and prompting mass scenes of grown men blubbing into their lager during Wonderwall. However, the focus was clearly on the new material. Recreated with extra oomph, Everybody’s on the Run is a stomping ballad which, unlike practically every Oasis torch song ever composed, skirts around treacly Let It Be pastiche.

Rock ace Noel Gallagher doesn’t mind his songs being used on The X Factor as he always gets asked beforehand.

The 44-year-old Q Award winner, at No 1 with his debut solo album, told me: “I don’t get precious about my songs. I don’t take the show seriously, musically. As long as they’re not crackheads or robbing my house it’s all good.”

And although Noel is grounded about his position as a legend, he still gets excited about making music. He added: “Recording in Los Angeles is pretty much living the dream as a musician.”

Liam Gallagher On A Possible Oasis Reunion

Being the guy from Oasis
"I'm not running from the guy that was in Oasis. That is me. We just go under a different name. And I sing the same, I'm in the some bands, I dress the same, so..."

On playing Oasis songs again
"I might do it. You know, I'd like to. I mean why not, man? I like those songs."

On an Oasis reunion
"I'm definitely up - well, Noel is the one that started this kind of thing. But I'm definitely up for doing a tour. I mean, as long - I don't think me 'n' him'll ever be in a full-on band again, you know what I mean? That's done, I think. But Noel was mentioning like a tour for the 2015 'What's the Story Morning Glory', and I think by then, three years, I will have grown up a bit and so will he."
