From Noel Gallagher's 'Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere' tour diary.
I'm pleased to report that there's at least SOMETHING to report from our stop over in Copenhagen.
A lovely place. Wonderful people, so here goes.....
The day started with a trip to national Nordic television. They (whoever "they" are) had me on some breakfast TV show called "Weekend Weekend". So good they named it twice!!!! As you can imagine the show itself was a bit odd. It consisted of a few TV presenter types stood round an elbow high table talking about… well, I'm not quite sure what they was on about as my Danish is a bit rusty these days. It was a bit like that thing that Tim Lovejoy does back in England on a Sunday.
So there's me, some Danish singer-songwriter, a guy who is - and I quote - "Denmark's foremost authority on that holy instrument the Mellotron" (I made the holy bit up), and somewhat predictably...... a celebrity chef, who was gonna cook me an English breakfast.
Now… why is it called an "English" breakfast? Does anyone know?
One of the presenters did refer to the chef as a Michelin star cock at one point!!!! (She meant cook, one would have thought?)
So anyway, after the usual exchanges… you know the ones? They had me and the Mellotron expert stood round a Mellotron and discuss the virtues - of which there are many - of that wonderful piece of machinery. We discussed great Mellotron moments in rock ie. Nights In White Satin, Strawberry Fields, etc…
Now why any of this would be interesting to your average Nordic breakfast telly punter is beyond me but, y'know… whatever. The show was rounded off with a Beatles quiz!!
The gig was in some concert hall. Incredible place. It was like playing inside a hexagonal wooden box. Beautiful.
We played in the round and I must say, it was mega. Being totally surrounded by a load of Nordic beauties is good gear, let me tell you.
At one point a little lad ambled onstage!! He was only 5 years old!! Just think of how many t-shirts he could potentially buy in his lifetime!!! I think his dad sensed a photo opp' in between songs and shoved him up there. Charlie, his name was (I think). He was from Manchester, I believe!!
A top, top night. My favourite gig of the entire tour so far. Well done.
You find me back in Germany. Cologne, to be exact.
Looking forward to getting hold of the Sunday papers. City bagged another 5 goals yesterday. We are struttin' at the minute. None more so than Super Mario, who scored the goal of the season so far. Check it out, it's hilarious. That kid kills me.
In a bit.

Liam Gallagher
Oasis

Liam Gallagher dedicated a song to 'Scientologist weirdos' at Beady Eye’s show last night (December 3) at The Wiltern in Los Angeles.
Playing in the city with the largest concentration Scientologists anywhere in the world, Gallagher made the dig before 'Bring The Light'.
Gallagher asked the crowd: "Do we have any Scientologists in the house tonight?" Following cheers, the former Oasis frontman said: "Some? Well this for them weirdos."
In a green parka jacket and paisley scarf, Gallagher dedicated a number of other songs throughout the evening, saying 'Man of Misery' was for the fan "wearing Pretty Green down the front", referring to his own clothing line. He also said the band's final song, their cover of World of Twist’s 1991 single 'Sons of the Stage' was "for the Manchester posse".
While playing their last track, Gallagher addressed a heckler in the audience, saying "it’s not a good look telling someone to fuck off when they look like Mr Bean," before going down into the photo pit and shaking hands with fans.
Liam Gallagher recently confirmed that Beady Eye will definitely be playing Oasis songs during their live shows next year. The move follows his brother Noel's decision to play tracks by their former band on his solo tour.
He told LA Weekly: "It takes balls to go onstage and not play Oasis songs. I don't miss those songs yet, but we're definitely going to play them on the next tour".
Beady Eye continue their North American tour with a show tomorrow (December 5) at Minneapolis First Avenue and they head to New York's Terminal 5 on December 9.
Beady Eye played:
'Yellow Tail'
'Four Letter Word'
'Beatles and Stones'
'Millionaire'
'Two of a Kind'

'Three Ring Circus'
'The Roller'
'In the Bubble With a Bullet'

'Standing on the Edge of the Noise'
'Kill for a Dream'

So… Brussels? Nothing to report, really. Gig was a bit livelier than usual. It rained. I had a great nights sleep… and that's about it.
I'm in Copenhagen. It's raining. And I've just had a great nights sleep.
Who said rock'n'roll was dead? The guy what just delivered my breakfast!! (He didn't really.)

"You're quite lively for a Belgian crowd aren't you?"
Due to me leaving too late in a combination with a lot of traffic jams, I totally missed the opening act and only arrived about 10 minutes before the High Flying Birds were ready to take off! Nevertheless, using our female forces, we managed to wrestle ourselves halfway through the venue, to a good spot about in the middle with, most importantly, a good view on our Noel.
When the AA remix of IIHAG started, a few people were singing along already, so it promised to be a good gig!
Opening with It's Good To Be Free, followed by Mucky Fingers, as usual. It left a lot of people in doubt though: 'Was that an Oasis song? It's not on the album! Is it a new song?' Pretty funny, although I still think he should open with something else!
Then Everybody's On The Run. A lot of people singing along! And even in Dream on, people were shouting along through the whole venue! You could already see on Noel's face that he was quite surprised about the reception he was getting!
If I Had A Gun started of amazing. A lot of people singing along again! This could really be the new 'Wonderwall' if he would play it acoustically!
In between songs Noel mentioned that we were "quite lively for a Belgian crowd" and that he "played here with Oasis before, but it never was like this". He seemed genuinely impressed with us, which only made us even louder of course!
The Good Rebel was better live, but I still find the song a bit bland. Not many people knew what it was either, and the people next to me were trying to assure me the song was called 'Black Rain'
The Death of You And Me, being a single, of course got a great reception. Not many people singing along though. Then Freaky Teeth! What a tune that is! People were jelling the title before he started and his reply was “I’m going to play it, but not because you asked it. I was going to play it anyway, so shut up.”
Then the acoustic bit. Wonderwall was amazing! A lot of confused people in the beginning, since it was the Ryan Adams version of couse, but after the first few lines they were over it and singing their hearts out! Same for Supersonic! One of the best Supersonics as of yet in my opinion! Great quality video here BTW!
A lot of of people singing along with Record Machine as well, which surprised me again! It seemed like the whole venue had listed to the album a million times before coming to the gig!
What A Life wasn't nearly as good as on the record, and the first time that Noels voice didn't hold up very well (in the high parts). It has been a single but hasn't been played much over here, so it was about the first song (bar the two opening songs) that didn't get great reaction. It stayed that way for Talk Tonight and Soldier Boys And Jesus Freaks.
The banter was again Noel picking on some people on the first rows. “Come to Columbia? Why? You’re here, I’m here, fuck the rest of them!” and “You want a picture? With me? No”
The next song was announced as "This is a song for all the ladies". Broken Arrow! A favourite of mine! Then Half the World Away, a lot of singing (or shouting) along again!
Closing the set was of course Stranded On The Wrong Beach. Starts of very psychedelic. Love it! Most of the people didn't really seem to know it though, but it was a good closer!
Then the encore. Needles to say that was amazing! Little By Little blew the roof off! Importance of being Idle, was never the biggest fan of this song, but it was good! And then, Don't Look Back In Anger'! The whole venue had it's hands in their air and was singing their lungs out! Amazing! Noel stepped back during the chorus and watched us singing our hearts out with a big smile appearing on his face (1.50)! You could clearly see he enjoyed it as well!
What a gig! You could clearly see the whole band enjoyed it very much! The bass player looked pretty stoned by the way and had this stupid smile on his face for pretty much the whole gig! Also, the guitarist got boo'ed again after introducing him as being from the USA
Also remember him looking and smiling at Noel at some point when we were all singing along. Great gig!

Liam Gallagher Transfixes Seattle With His Beady Eye
British rock musicians have always had a love-hate relationship with the media, and there’s no one the critics love to hate quite as much as Liam Gallagher. As frontman for Oasis he has already secured his place in the pantheons of rock history, but there remains a question mark over Liam’s every move, as if he’s still that bratty young pretender who burst onto the scene in the early Nineties. I guess when you have serious, restrained songwriter Noel Gallagher as your older brother you’re always destined to be cast as the clown.
Last night, Friday November 30, offered Liam a chance to rewrite his image, at least as far as Seattle was concerned, when he took to the stage at the Showbox at the Market with new band Beady Eye. They may have a new name, but Beady Eye are plainly Oasis in another guise – only elder statesman Noel Gallagher jumped ship, to start his new project the ‘High Flying Birds’. When your songwriter and driving force has moved on to pastures new, though, you definitely have something to prove.
Before Beady Eye brought their British rock’n'roll to the home of grunge, the Showbox was treated to Belgium’s Black Box Revelation. BBR have a strong following in Europe, and if their short-but-loud warm-up slot was any indication, then they should kick up a storm on American shores too.
Despite being a two-man band BBR make an incredible amount of noise, guitarist/singer Jan Paternoster contributing most of it while Dries Van Dijck thrashes out some impressive rhythms on the drums. If you haven’t heard them, you may want to check out their Shiver of Joy EP – a combination of Oasis-like rock attitude, squealing blues guitars, and more than a few pop tunes swimming beneath the feedback.
As good as BBR were, however, there was little doubt about the main attraction. The crowd seemed to swell in the minutes before Liam Gallagher swaggered onto the stage, as the testosterone-heavy mass of bodies pushed forward to be closer to their hero. He certainly had a lot to live up to.
Perhaps it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Liam Gallagher we experienced at the Showbox sometimes felt like a shadow of his former vitriolic self. He still has that swagger – and the parka jacket – but Liam is approaching 40 now, and even he looked as if he was struggling to summon enthusiasm for his carefully-crafted, arrogant, opinionated stage persona. The only time he showed a slight flare of his former temper was over an ongoing problem with the vocal mix, and even then he played the part of the frustrated perfectionist rather than the petulant rock’n'roller. Maybe time really can tame the monsters of rock.
As for the songs, while they didn’t quite scale the heights of Oasis at their peak, they still packed plenty of punch for a band that only has one album to its name. ‘Millionaire’, ‘The Roller’ and ‘Kill For A Dream’ offered obvious highlights, but with those blown early in the show Beady Eye struggled to deliver a true crescendo at the evening’s close – although that didn’t keep them from trying. In particular a piano-driven ten minutes of Fifties-style rock suggested a potential new direction for the Oasis stalwarts, one that hasn’t already been subsumed by Noel’s influence. Clearly they’ve been taking lessons from fellow Brits The Jim Jones Revue.
Despite their pedigree, seeing Beady Eye still isn’t quite as satisfying as enjoying Oasis in their prime – but then few things are. As Liam wore his sweat-sodden parka like a badge of his rockstar prowess, you couldn’t help feeling that he’s still a long way from reaching his final act. And any band that pairs a Gallagher with Ride virtuoso Andy Bell, as well as Paul Weller collaborator Gem Archer, will always be worth your hard-earned dollars.
