Liam Gallagher On Oasis, Noel, And More

Nearly eight years after Oasis abruptly disbanded in 2009, Liam Gallagher is now saying he’s open to getting the group back together. On Monday’s Stern Show, Howard asked the band's former frontman about the possibility of an Oasis reunion.

“Without a doubt,” Gallagher replied. “That’s my band, you know what I mean?”

Perhaps the biggest obstacle to getting Oasis back on stage together is the longstanding rift between Liam and his brother Noel. Their disagreements throughout the years have earned a fair share of media attention and Liam admitted he and Noel would first need to learn to get along before they’d be ready to make music together again.

“When we start liking each other, inevitably, I think the next step would be to take the band out for a little spin around the block,” Liam told Howard. “I love Oasis. It’s the best thing ever.”

There’s no doubt Liam would be ready for a reunion tour, either. He sang one of Oasis’s biggest hits “Wonderwall” live in the Stern Show studio – the same song brother Noel sang when he visited Howard in 1997. Check out audio of Liam’s “Wonderwall” performance from Monday morning (below).

As for how and when his relationship with Noel turned sour, Liam suspects it has something to do with the night he peed all over Noel’s new stereo setup. Liam recalled being 15 and coming home drunk after having “too many sherries.”

“Me fucking room is spinning,” Liam remembered. He made his way into the bedroom he shared with Noel but couldn’t find the light switch. Lost in the dark and needing to relieve himself, Liam said he took a leak right then and there instead of finding his way to the bathroom. Unfortunately, it was Noel’s sound system that ended up soaking wet.

“I think he holds a grudge from that and that was a long time ago,” Liam told Howard. “But when you gotta go, you gotta go, mate. Simple as that.”

Howard was curious if Liam ever apologized for the incident.

“I said, ‘Listen, mate, it was either the sound system or your fucking head,’” Liam recalled telling Noel back in the day.

Howard then asked if Liam would attend Noel’s funeral, considering how contentious their relationship has become.

“Of course,” Liam quickly responded. “I love my brother. We’re just going through a little dodgy patch at the moment.”

Part of the appeal of being a rock star for Liam was acting like one during the height of Oasis’s fame. But for anyone who thinks Gallagher didn’t begin partying until after the band hit it big, he explained he’s always enjoyed having a good time.

“I was mushroomed out of my face when I was 15, 16 before I even joined the band at 19,” Liam said.

Experimenting with drugs and alcohol after the band’s success only made him a better rock star, Liam surmised. “I think you have to have life experiences,” he told Howard. “I’m not saying you need to be snorting drugs … but something needs to fucking happen.”

Though he’s definitely slowed down lately, Liam also joked about not liking being sober. “I just felt too good,” he told Howard with a laugh. “I was opening the door for people and stuff and getting old ladies’ bags of shopping.”

Liam even had trouble getting his hands on a cigarette while in New York. He tried purchasing a pack at a convenience store, only to have the store clerk ask to see his I.D. which he’d left in his hotel room.

“I look about 34 … I’m 44,” Liam said to Howard. “I look old enough to buy cigarettes, don’t I?”

He took to Twitter to vent his frustrations, as well.

As he’s asked other musicians who smoke, Howard wondered if Liam is concerned about the effects cigarettes might have on his voice. Liam revealed he no longer smokes the day of a performance but also said he didn’t like the sound of his voice after he hasn’t smoked in a while.

“I sound a bit square, a bit beige ... I like it to sound a bit rough,” he said. “I do like the screaming and shouting kind of side of the singing.”

With his debut solo album “As You Were” scheduled to be released in October, Liam performed his first single “Wall of Glass” (above) live on the Stern Show for Howard. As good as his performance was, Liam had to run out of the studio as soon as he was done singing in order to use the bathroom.

“We’ve never had that happen before,” Robin said while cracking up.

“You should have just peed right in my studio like you did to your brother,” Howard joked.

Liam Gallagher’s debut solo album “As You Were” is available Oct. 6.

Liam Gallagher On Being Depressed And Bored

The Roll With It star said that he'd been left planning an escape after hitting rock bottom due to divorce with Nicole Appleton.

He's not known for backing down from a confrontation, or being that shy and retiring.

But Liam Gallagher has revealed the true extent that his divorce from Nicole Appleton and a custody battle with ex-mistress Liza Ghorbani had on him, revealing he almost started things over with a new life in Spain.

Speaking about the state of his mental health during one of his rockiest years, the 44-year-old Oasis icon said he'd been left close to broke by his £800,000 divorce and a battle over access to his daughter Gemma had seen all his money go on legal fees.

Speaking candidly to GQ about his fall to the bottom and subsequent rise back to the top, Liam said: “Two years ago I was depressed and just really f***ing bored. All my money was going on lawyers."

And it seems that his money woes led him to plan an escape to the sunshines, with Liam almost quitting Britain and fame for a fresh start.

“It was time to get real," he revealed. "I knew that whatever happened with the money I would be left with, I wouldn’t be able to live where I wanted to live in London, so I might have to f*** off for a bit and get a nice place abroad — get a bit of sun, eat some nice food, and try and come up with a plan. Just start again.”

Though it seems there were a few barriers to his plans to flee to the sunshine, with his girlfriend Debbie Gwyther - who he fell for during the break-down of his marriage in 2013.

Speaking about her reactions to his plans to flee the country, Liam said: “Not the best. But I said it wouldn’t be far, a couple of hours on the plane."

And though he may have been experiencing some dire financial straights, it seems that Liam wasn't ready to slum it just yet, adding: “I got this close to going by myself. Googling properties. It weren’t f***ing Magaluf - I’m not that broke, but not far off.

“My kids weren’t bothered. They were just asking if it would have a pool or not, the cheeky f***s.”

But it was at this point that the Beady Eye frontman experienced a flash of inspiration, as "the music came" to him. Something which led him to abandon his plans and start recording his first solo album, As You Were.

Liam Gallagher On Going Solo, Oasis, Family And More

From his first time at the mic until Britpop's bubble burst, no one lived life like Liam Gallagher. And when that lairy, lager-fuelled rock rolled on, it left behind not just its figureheard, but a generation of men who idolised his swagger and front. For most of his life it's like the song says: don't look back in anger. Not so for the man himself. In the latest issue of GQ, he explains why those who walked away - including Noel - have much to fear from his return

Read this extract from the full Liam Gallagher GQ interview in the September 2017 issue of British GQ, available as a digital edition and on newsstands from Thursday 3 August.

Liam Gallagher on whether singing in Oasis was enough for him, without writing any songs

“Always. Honestly. I knew the score. That was Noel’s thing. My thing was the whole cliché: the sex, the drugs, the rock’n’roll. I lived it, mate. I was it. And that’s why Oasis worked. We couldn’t have both been boring f***s and neither could we have both been headcases like me. And I know how much it annoyed him. He did the graft while I went out and undid the graft. But Oasis wouldn’t have worked with two Liams or two Noels. The Rolling Stones wouldn’t have worked if they were nuns, would they? Listen, I’m sorry he got dealt the card he did to write the songs, but who’s the one with eight houses now? As he says himself, he might have the rock-star life, but who is the real rock star here?”

Liam Gallagher on going solo

“I’m f***ing glad I’m back, mate, because I know for a fact they’re sitting there – and you say they might be happy – but they’re sitting there going, 'F*** me, mate. He’s come again, man. Two divorces, f***ing illegitimate kids, f***ing two failed bands behind him, three bad haircuts and he’s still f***ing coming.' Oh, and I’m gonna f***ing come even more, mate, do you know what I mean? Because that’s the way it is. That’s who I am. That’s what I do. I’m not gonna sit back and let them win. So they should be f***ing scared. They should be afraid. Without a doubt. This is the third coming.”

On Lisa Moorish, mother of his eldest child Molly Moorish (conceived whilst he was married to Patsy Kensit)

“She’s had her day in the sun… The kid I haven’t seen. We’ll see one day, but, no, not seen her. But if I met her, she’d be cool. She’s welcome in my world and that, you know what I mean? Without a doubt. But I just ain’t met her because her mam’s... Listen, we don’t work. We don’t get on.”

On whether he’d be open to Molly contacting him

“I would be, yes. I mean I’m open to everything. But at the moment it ain’t happening. Got no problem with the girl whatsoever. The girl’s been looked after and clothed and fed and sent to lovely schools. I bought them a house and all that tack. I just think she’s best off with her mum… They aren’t good when they are forced, these things. I think we leave it be. See what happens. If it happens it happens. Certainly, wouldn’t turn her away, man. Let it be.”
