GLOK / Timothy Clerkin - Alliance

RIDE’s Andy Bell, recording under his electronic alter ego GLOK, and the producer and Insult to Injury label boss Timothy Clerkin have joined forces for Alliance, a brand new seven-track album released by Bytes on November 8. The collaboration finds Andy and Tim with their freak flags flying, working in a freewheeling environment where nothing was off limits, with influences ranging from Death in Vegas and Boards of Canada to James Holden and New Order.

The woozy ‘Empyrean’, which combines the analogue-decayed production of Boards of Canada and the ethereal vocals of ‘Xtal’ from Aphex Twin’s Selected Ambient Works 85-92 with a fizzing behemoth of a synth line, is a fitting way to launch the album as it was the first track they worked on together. “It’s basically a Timothy Clerkin remix of a demo I sent him,” Andy explains. “I can’t get enough of it. To me, it’s one of the best tracks I’ve ever been involved with since I started making music.

Bonehead speaking to me about playing in Japan.

"I'll always remember the first time we went over to Japan not knowing what to expect. You’re on the other side of the world and you’re in this small little club and you go over there and you just got this idea of Japanese people being really reserved and polite and sat there. They just went ape shit, they were just jumping and screaming and we didn't know what to do, it's the first time we had been there, you’re never going to forget that, any one of the early Japanese gigs would stick into my mind".

On September 13th 1997, played the first of two nights at the Westpoint Arena in Exeter, England. It was the first time the band had played in the UK for over a year.

Manchester City Launch 2024/25 Definitely City Kit In Collaboration With Noel Gallagher

Speaking about his involvement in the design of the Definitely City kit, Noel Gallagher said: “I loved City before anything, I was into City before I was into music, I was into City before I knew what music was.

“Definitely Maybe is what set us on our way, the record lasting as long, you can’t predict that kind of thing. It’s a great working class, Mancunian record – it’s real.

“When PUMA approached us at one of the games about designing a kit it took about five seconds to agree to it. It’s the same colour palette as the cover of Definitely Maybe: it’s unique but it’s definitely striking, and I think it looks great. When you see people representing your Club, it’s important that they look good.

“Definitely Maybe has never lost its magic to me, I just think it’s an amazing snapshot of what we were about. With the anniversary, I’ve been listening to it a lot more than I would ever listen to it, it makes me smile – they were great times. It’s spawned a great football kit, it’s legacy lives on.”
