Noel: Everyone's After My Girl

Noel Gallagher has a warning for blokes who fancy his missus – they have no chance because he’s the one with millions in the bank.

The Oasis legend has had to put up with his celebrity swordsman pal Russell Brand poking fun about how much he lusts after his stunning girlfriend Sara Macdonald.

When I told him Take That heart-throb Jason Orange also had an eye for the leggy Edinburgh lass, Noel marked his territory in his trademark, sharp-tongued style.

Noel told me: “Everyone fancies my missus. Russell Brand is always asking after her. I have no doubt he would have a go if he got half a chance. But he won’t.

“Jason Orange and all the rest of them haven’t got a sniff either — I’m the one with millions in the bank.”

Ever the gent, he apologised to Sara and gave her a big smacker on the lips.

I joined Noel and Kasabian at the plush Landmark Hotel in central London for a few drinks after the Shockwaves NME Awards.

Noel was in fighting form, stating his intentions to land a double in my Bizarre Caner Of The Year prize.

Noel, who pipped Sarah Harding to the title last year after a mega session with the Bizarre crew in Earls Court after a Kasabian gig, said he plans to get stuck in again in 2007.

Rolling up his sleeves for battle he added: “I put some serious hard graft in on the ale last year. I deserved it and I am up for it again this time round. Harding has got nothing on me.”

Oasis might have lost out on the best band gong to Muse but Noel was the man of the moment.

Arctic Monkeys, The View , Kasabian and new three-piece The Enemy were all drinking with their hero on the night.

Noel’s 2007 caner campaign got off to a strong start with a massive night on the lash after the Brits.

But Noel told me he lost his rag when Yank newcomers Orson sprayed the Oasis table with champagne.

He said: “I said, ‘Oi, you watch it!’ and gave him a poke in the ribs.”

Sara chipped in: “It’s just because Noel is funny about his hair.”

NME needs YOUR help to find out

NME is attempting to discover the Greatest Indie Anthems Of All Time - and we need YOUR help.

We're compiling the nation's top 50 indie anthems ever, and we want to know what you think. 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' or 'Debaser'? 'Live Forever' or 'Song 2'? And how about 'Naïve'?

Kieran Webster from The View thinks it's a Libertines track. Faris Rotter, meanwhile, reckons The Shangri-Las deserve the top spot.

Next month we'll be revealing the nation's favourites in a special issue of NME.

Email letters@nme.com with the subject line indie anthems with your top five, writing why you think the Number One track is the best indie anthem ever.

We'll be sending out some NME goodie bags to 10 lucky voters, so don't forget to include your name, age and address! The closing date is Friday March 16.

Gallagher: 'Even Robbie Knows How Bad He Is'

Oasis star Noel Gallagher has hit out at Robbie Williams after the pop singer won Worst Album at last night's (01MAR07) NME Awards - insisting even Williams knows the extent of his limited talent.

Williams was unable to attend the London ceremony because he is currently receiving treatment at a US rehab clinic. But Gallagher wasn't surprised when his old foe's Rudebox disc was named Worst Album.

He said, "I just wish he was here so I could say well done. "I don't think even Robbie himself thinks he's a credible artist. I could talk to you for three hours about how bad he is. Worst Album isn't really an award, is it?"

Noel Gallagher Oasis

Treasured Track

The La's
Looking Glass

(From the album ' The La's', 1990, Go! Discs)

"Does it have to be just one track? I treasure the whole of The La's album, but if I have to pick one track, then it's 'Looking Glass'. We met (singer) Lee Mavers in japan last year and I was asking if he'd make a new record and he said, 'yeah, we're recording the first one'. It's like, 'come on man, let it go!' it's a seminal record. I don't give a f**k whether he likes it. It's an amazing record.

My Hero

John Lennon

"A f**king great songwriter. He took risks - listen to 'My Lie' or 'Revolution'. McCartney was too safe; Lennon would never write 'Yesterday' or 'When I'm 64' -they're too soft. There's been no-one as gifted as him since."

My Week's Playlist

01. The Gossip - Standing In The Way Of Control
"I can't turn the radio on without hearing this song. I think I must have heard it three times today already!"

02. The View - Same Jeans
"I've got the album at home and I'm yet to listen to it, but they've got that spirit and that touch of the people. I love 'Superstar Tradesman' and 'Wasted Little DJ's' too."

03. The Good, The Bad & The Queen - The Good, The Bad & The Queen
"I love the bit at the end when it goes crazy. Ther's some nice passages of music on this."

04. Kings Of Leon - Molly's Chamber
"I've been listening to thier older stuff to get ready for their return this month. I'm really looking forward to seeing them play live. And this is a great tune."

05. Klaxons - Golden Skans
"They think I hate them but I like this one. We were at the Ibiza Rocks festival last summer and I got dragged in to see them and I was just like, 'what the f**k was all that about?' But I do like that tune!"

And Another Thing

The God Delusion

"This guy goes out to scientifically disprove the existence of god. F**king brilliant, if you can understand the words. Not that I can. It's good though. I don't read fiction, you end up thinking, 'Yeah but that wouldn't happen, bollocks'. I read books about actual things that happened. And if it's disproving god, bring it on."
