Domestic relations between Liam Gallagher and his girl Nicole Appleton are about to be put through the toughest test possible.
Never mind arguing about money, who does the dishes or who left soggy towels on the bedroom floor.
Liam’s band Oasis are going head to head with Nicole’s re-formed girl band All Saints in an epic album chart battle next month.
And that can mean only one thing with hothead Liam and gobby Nicole — brace yourselves for fireworks!
Oasis are releasing their greatest hits album Stop The Clocks on November 20.
That happens to be exactly the same date for the All Saints relaunch and eagerly anticipated comeback effort Studio 1.
I bumped into Liam on Wednesday night in North London boozer The Hawley Arms and asked him if there was any possibility of Nicole and Co leaving him red-faced.
Defiant Liam barked back: “No f*****g chance.”
The couple were out for a few sherries after an exhibition opening in Camden.
And it could be their last civil night on the town before they get down to business in a battle for the top spot.
It is a rare occasion when couples, siblings or even close relations take each other on in the charts. I think this could even be the first time. If you know otherwise, email me.
Oasis are the obvious favourites, with a massive fan base already queuing up to get the definitive back catalogue of the Manchester band’s hits.
But the All Saints revival has drummed up a lot of interest too.
And if the Take That comeback is anything to go by in judging the nation’s hunger for pop reminiscing, then I reckon Shazney Lewis, Mel Blatt and the Appleton sisters Nicole and Natalie will do well.
But there is no question Oasis will come out on top.
The real battle facing Liam, brother Noel, Gem Archer and Andy Bell will come from across the Irish Sea.
Dublin supergroup U2 are also launching a “Best Of” album in November.
Oasis versus U2 has to be one of the most exciting chart battles for years.
And even if Oasis beat All Saints hands down, there is still a good chance Liam will be in a strop if U2 do the business.
