Taken from Noel's tour diary for oasisinet.com

Sorry droogs. Forgot about you lot!

Now then - what's been happening?

Well, we went to Lisbon. I thought it wouldn't get any better than Barcelona and Madrid - how wrong I was. I think it was my favourite night of the whole tour so far. It may well have been the best gig too. Them kids sang it LOUD, man.

Gave our disc-jockey a lesson in heavy psychedelic rock music in the dressing room afterwards. I really should try my hand at that dj'ing malarky. I'd be fuckin' brilliant.

Left the people of Lisbon with a message of love for José Mourinho. We really do need him back in England. Preferably at Man City.

We were in Toulouse last night (that's in France, if anyone's reading this from The Daily Star). Them French kids are a bit more laid back than their Latino cousins. A quiet gig.

Watched 'Scarface' last night on the bus. Suddenly dawned on me that it's the first time I've seen it since "the 90s" and not been acting out nearly every scene with Tony Montana - political refugee. (I never did get that tiger I promised myself). Great film though.

I send you this message from Marseille (that's also in France). Gig tonight, then onto our spiritual home ITALIA.

In a bit.

On This Day In Oasis History...

"Don't Look Back in Anger" is a song by the British rock band Oasis, written by the band's guitarist, Noel Gallagher. Released as the fourth single from their hit second album (What's the Story) Morning Glory?, on February 19th 1996.

The song became the band's second single to reach #1 in the United Kingdom charts, where it also went platinum. "Don't Look Back in Anger" was also the first Oasis single to feature Noel on lead vocals instead of his brother, Liam Gallagher. The title is perhaps a play on the song "Look Back in Anger", from David Bowie's Lodger album or on the play, Look Back in Anger by John Osborne, from which Bowie's song took inspiration.

Music video

The video for the song, directed by Nigel Dick, features Patrick Macnee, the actor who played John Steed in the 1960s television series The Avengers, apparently a favourite of the band. While filming the video, drummer Alan White met future wife Liz Atkins. They were married 13 August 1997 at Studley Priory Hotel, Oxfordshire but later divorced. Macnee has no recollection of the filming of the video.

History

Noel said of the song, "[It] reminds me of a cross between All the Young Dudes and summat the Beatles might've done." Of the character "Sally" referred to in the song he commented, "I don't actually know anybody called Sally. It's just a word that fitted, y'know, might as well throw a girl's name in there. It's gotta guarantee somebody a shag off a bird called Sally, hasn't it?". Noel claims that the character "Lyla", from Oasis' 2005 single is the sister of Sally. In the interview on the DVD released with the special edition of Stop the Clocks, Noel also revealed that a girl approached him and asked him if Sally was the same girl as in The Stone Roses' track "Sally Cinnamon". Noel replied that he'd never thought of that, but thought it was good anyway.

Noel admits that certain lines from the song are lifted from John Lennon: "I got this tape in the United States that had apparently been burgled from the Dakota Hotel and someone had found these cassettes. Lennon was starting to record his memoirs on tape. He's going on about 'trying to start a revolution from me bed, because they said the brains I had went to my head.' I thought 'Thank you, I'll take that'!" "Revolution from me bed" most likely refers to Lennon's infamous bed-ins in 1969, both in the quote and in the song. The piano during the intro of the song highly resembles Lennon's "Imagine". Like many other popular songs, the chord progression for both the verse and the chorus are based on the classical piece Canon in D by Johann Pachelbel. The songs only differ slightly at the end of each phrase. Gallagher also admits that he was under the influence of substances when he wrote the song, and to this day he claims he does not know what it means.

The song has become a favourite at Oasis' live performances. Noel encourages the crowd to sing along and often keeps quiet during the chorus, allowing the fans instead to sing along while he focuses on his guitar playing. The volume of crowd noise that usually descends on the chorus at concerts is easily audible on the rendition of "Don't Look Back in Anger" on Familiar to Millions. During the Dig Out Your Soul Tour the song has been played acoustically at a slower rate by Noel. Which surprised some fans, but it is still sung by all the fans.

In a 2006 radio interview, Liam Gallagher said that it was he who came up with the line "so Sally can wait" as Noel was struggling with that particular line at the time. Noel confirms this on the bonus DVD, entitled Lock the Box, released with the Stop the Clocks retrospective album. In the interview with Colin Murray, Noel admits, "I was doing it in the sound check and the so Sally bit, I wasn't singing that...and he [Liam] says, 'Are you singing so Sally can wait?' and I said, 'No.' and he said, 'Well you should do.'"

Noel was so excited of the potential of the song when he first wrote it, he used an acoustic set to perform a work-in progress version, without the second verse and a few other slight lyrical differences to the finished version, at an Oasis concert at the Sheffield Arena on April 22, 1995, saying before playing that he'd only written it the previous Tuesday (April 18, 1995) and that he didn't even have a title for it.

Liam Gallagher: Coldplay They Win Everything Don't They?

Liam Gallagher has tipped Coldplay to clean up at the Brits - saying they would probably even be crowned best new female act.

Coldplay were nominated for four Brit awards and earlier this month they bagged three Grammy awards, including song of the year.

Liam called in to Johnny Vaughan and Liam's wife Nicole Appleton, who was standing in for Lisa Snowdon on the 95.8 Capital FM Breakfast Show, to give his Brits predictions. Asked who should win the British album gong, Liam said: "Personally, I'd go with the Ting Tings."

But asked who would win, Liam said: "Well who do you think? Coldplay! They win everything don't they? They'd win the best new female act won't they!"

In the British group stakes, Johnny asked Liam if he was a Girls Aloud fan.

The Oasis frontman replied: "Not really no!

"They're all right, you know what I mean? Some of their tunes are all right!

"Coldplay have got to win it haven't they, I suppose."

In the British male solo artist category, Gallagher tipped: "Paul Weller man!

"Ian Brown is a dude, I like them all. I think James Morrison is a top songwriter. Ian Brown is obviously the man but I think Paul Weller should get it man, his album is mega!"

Women Don't Want Men Like Liam Gallagher

Women say the British man is a disappointment - with failings epitomised by the likes of Liam Gallagher and Russell Brand.

While beer bellies are a turn off, so too is the Neanderthal way modern men walk with slouched shoulders and slumped posture, with the Oasis frontman a typical example.

Neither do they like the ultra-skinny look of Russell Brand, said the research by specialist shoemaker MBT, with 98 per cent of women not liking men in eyeliner and skinny jeans.

Half of women believe both the posture and masculinity of men have worsened from their father's day, said a new study.

Although men may walk like cavemen, they don't behave like them - and women are tiring of the `metrosexual', guy-in-touch-with-his-emotions image too.

What they want is a gentleman, perhaps slightly flawed, but one who stands tall such as fictional figures like James Bond to Mr D'Arcy to rifleman Sharpe.

What they don't want is a slouch, with 94 per cent turned off by knuckle-draggers.

Alright there. Phew! Barcelona was a great gig. And a great night. Free Peace are still having it. Tuff Levi turned up. Played us some of his new tunes. Sounded great the first couple of times then it got a bit silly. Must've heard 'em 20 times in a row! All good though.

Couple of Swedish friends of ours were in town (they're DJs). Me, The Prophet, Romeo, Levi and a few stragglers went to some discotheque they were playing at after the show. A good night. If I remember correctly (which I don't!).

Currently in Lisbon. Dunno much about the place. We don't seem to come here often. Or do we? Fuck knows.

It's a nice day though.

In a bit.

NG.

Noel Gallagher's Manchester City Band

Noel Gallagher wants to form a Man City-supporting band to record an official club song.

The rocker says: “It wouldn’t be a bad supergroup — Johnny Marr, Billy Duffy, Doves, Damon Gough, Mike Pickering and Rick Wakeman. And don’t dis Rick — he’s one of us.

“There’s a guy out of the Super Furry Animals and two guys out of The Coral too.”

He adds: “I’d probably also say yes to doing an FA Cup Final record too — then sober up and say, ‘Hang on a minute, I can’t be writing an FA Cup song’.

Liam Gallagher's Flop Of The Chops

I can't decide which is more outrageous – Liam Gallagher’s monster sideburns or his fancy footwear.

The Oasis wildman was snapped heading out for a Valentine’s Day meal with wife Nicole Appleton at London celeb haunt The Ivy.

His mutton chops give Elvis Presley's a run for their money.

And Jimmy Savile would love those leopard-skin shoes.

Liam jetted home to be with his missus from Barcelona, where Oasis played a show on Friday.

Then he had to head off again to Lisbon to play the next gig in their Dig Out Your Soul Tour last night.

Liam must have been All Shook Up after all that dashing around.

He probably thinks he looks like The King with those burners – but I reckon he looks more like Amos Brearly from Emmerdale.

Are Oasis Going To Split?

Oasis are on the verge of splitting after gobby Liam Gallagher’s relationship with his brother Noel hit an all-time low.

The pair are putting on a united front for their fans during their current world tour.

But the Daily Star Sunday can reveal that off stage the Gallaghers are avoiding one another at all costs.

And fans fear the split could come as soon as they finish their world tour.

Guitarist Noel, 41, laid bare the breakdown by confessing as he jetted into Madrid on Thursday: “I haven’t spoken to my brother for two years.”

Last night a source close to the band, currently in France ahead of a two-month tour of the Far East, said: “Noel and Liam have always had a stormy relationship but things have never been this bad.

“They can’t stand being in the same room together, let alone speaking to each other.

“Noel has already talked about leaving Liam and going solo when the current tour ends but we’re worried things won’t get that far. They’ve been on the road since last August and the stress of being in each other’s pockets is definitely taking its toll.”

The source added: “Sometimes I wish they’d just have a good punch-up like in the old days.

“Watching two grown-up men talking to each other through their roadies when they have to communicate is pretty ridiculous.

“It’s a wonder they manage to perform so well when they’re on stage. This looks like the last tour.”

An insider at the Gallaghers’ hotel in Spain said: “Noel and Liam looked as if they were going out of their way to avoid each other.

“The only time I saw them together was when they checked in and they seemed more like arch-enemies than brothers from the look on their faces.

“They didn’t even get the lift up to their rooms together and they ordered their room service separately so they obviously ate apart. They were supposed to see some music journalists together but even that didn’t happen because Liam never showed.”

Noel broke Liam’s foot after a fight with a cricket bat during recording sessions for their second album (What’s The Story) Morning Glory?

The pair fought again in Barcelona in 2000 when Liam, 36, insulted his brother’s then wife Meg Mathews.

Noel declared he was quitting overseas touring but returned for an Oasis gig in Dublin later the same year and shook Liam’s hand at the end of the performance.

He recently declared all he cared about is whether Liam can still sing.

The split fears come as Oasis prepare for their first trip to China next month.

They are then due to play in Manchester, Sunderland, Cardiff and Edinburgh in June before gigs at Coventry and London in July.

Winners And Losers: Rock Star Brothers

There's always a black sheep in every family. It's inevitable, a law of nature. Have more than one kid, and someone will be left with a short deck.

For brothers, it's even worse. You're either the "cool" brother or the "other" brother. There's no way around it.

And if your brother is a rock star? Not pretty. The only thing worse is being the brother of a President (see Billy Carter, Roger Clinton, and President Obama's weed-smoking Kenyan half-brother).

Even when you're lucky enough to share a band, if you're the "other" brother, at best you'll be considered unobtrusive wallpaper (is anyone looking at Angus' older brother, Malcolm, during an AC/DC concert?), and at worst, everyone is waiting for your cool brother to ditch the band and make a solo record.

Sure, there are the odd lightning-strikes-twice exceptions. Noel and Liam Gallagher are equally obnoxious and equally ego-fuelled. It's hard to imagine the Everly Brothers as the Everly Brother, and the Kinks would be nothing without Ray and Dave Davies pissing each other off over the years.

But that's the extent of the rock brothers with equal talent billing. For everyone else, there just isn't enough musical mojo to go around. There are winners and losers. Here are some of the biggest winners and their less-fortunate siblings.

WINNER: PETE TOWNSHEND
The Who's songwriter, guitar god, and visionary is a rock legend. He's been given every conceivable award and had his songs live on TV crime shows, Broadway, and "Guitar Hero." Any self-respecting rock fan or budding rock star must kiss his guitar pick at some point.

LOSER: SIMON TOWNSHEND
Pete's younger brother released three solo albums that were met with less fanfare than say... a solo Pete Townshend album. In 2004 he formed the band Casbah Club with dudes from the Jam and Big Country. Oh, and there's his day job: playing second guitar on Who tours.

WINNER: MICK JAGGER
He's arguably one of the most influential rock singers and frontmen of the 20th century. He made chicken dancing look cool, and he dares you to tell him it's not OK to sing "Satisfaction" to his grave.

LOSER: CHRIS JAGGER
Chris has a group of his own called Chris Jagger's Atcha! Blues Band. In 2007 Chris' brother did join Atcha! for a cover of the Stones' "Dead Flowers" at a local pub. Apparently, it didn't help bookings. On his website, Chris says he "enjoys spending as much time as possible outdoors, looking after animals, and creating a garden with 'anything you can eat.'" No tour dates listed.

WINNER: EDDIE VAN HALEN
Although one could debate about how much of a winner Eddie is these days, he's rightfully claimed his spot as one of the most influential guitarists of his generation — even if he does have bad luck with lead singers.

LOSER: ALEX VAN HALEN
When the Van Halen kids were growing up, Eddie played drums while Alex played guitar. Maybe he actually plays guitar better than Eddie. Rumor has it that Alex has become an ordained minister so he can preside over his brother's wedding. Hopefully, it will lead to a new career that doesn't involve a gong.

WINNER: KEVIN BACON
Personally, I like my Bacon on the screen more than on the concert stage. Still, there's no denying that the younger Bacon brother has rock star charisma. Plus, how can you NOT be cool when everyone in Hollywood is only six degrees of separation away from you?

LOSER: MICHAEL BACON
When you're the lesser-known half of a side project, things are not looking so good. Yes, Michael has a long and respected career scoring a boatload of PBS movies. So what? His brother is Kevin Bacon. He just can't compete.

WINNERS: LIAM & NOEL GALLAGHER
Oasis' lead singer and songwriter-guitarist are rock god brothers-in-arms, always ready for a pint, a brawl, and a grandiose statement more outrageous than the last. Love 'em or hate 'em, they are keeping rock's unruly heritage alive.

LOSER: PAUL GALLAGHER
And then there's Paul, the third Gallagher brother. "There's a third Gallagher brother? " you ask? Yes. "Is he the Scottish football player?" No. "COO of Forbes magazine?" Wrong guy. "A distant cousin to actor Peter Gallagher?" Nope. Noel and Liam's older brother is the author of "Brothers: From Childhood to Oasis" and a screenplay writer. 'Nuff said.

WINNER: THOM YORKE
As the angst-ridden frontman of Radiohead, Thom Yorke possesses a beautifully tortured voice and has pushed the boundaries of how pop music is made and sold. He's one of the singular artists who come around once every so often, inspiring legions of fans and budding musicians alike.

LOSER: ANDY YORKE
Thom's younger brother had a late '90s band called the Unbelievable Truth (named after the Hal Hartley cult film). They disbanded after three albums, and Andy released a solo record, "Simple," in 2008. Needless to say, he stands in a big shadow.

WINNER: MICHAEL JACKSON
I know, there are really no winners in the Jackson family — only freakish stories. Still, if you have to put one on top, it's gotta be the King of Pop. Despite Bubbles, the Elephant Man, questionable underage slumber parties, and going out one too many times in his pajamas, Jacko's musical legacy is undeniable.

LOSER: TITO JACKSON
Could you name Tito in a Jackson 5 photo? Hint: he's the guitar player. According to his website, he's soon announcing dates for his blues band and putting the finishing touches on a solo album. Wanna bet if it hits stores before Michael's comeback?

WINNER: PAUL McCARTNEY
He's Paul McCartney for chrissakes! A knighted Beatle. He wrote every song you know. There's no bigger winner in rock.

LOSER: MIKE McCARTNEY
Paul's younger brother did not want to capitalize on his famous surname while performing in the early '60s, so he invented the stage name "Mike McGear." After some moderate U.K. hits (including one with Wings as his backing band —ditch the family name but use the brother's band?), Mike turned full time to photography. Among his published works? Beatles pictures. Lots of Beatles pictures.

WINNER: SEAN LENNON
Although he hasn't had the chart success of his half-brother, John and Yoko's only kid has the artistic cred that can only come from a lifetime of hanging with New York hipsters and being... well... John and Yoko's only kid. He's the poster child for indie-music cool chic, hanging with Rufus Wainwright, Cibo Matto, and every other artist with a lower Manhattan zip code.

LOSER: JULIAN LENNON
Even though he gets points for having a Beatles song written for him ("Hey Jude") and having two Top 10 hits in the '80s, Julian stills comes up short in the sibling coolness department. Aside from his well-publicized battles with stepmom Yoko, his cover of the Fab Four's "When I'm Sixty-Four" number for an Allstate Insurance commercial didn't help his case.

Noel Gallagher: This Could The Last Tour

Noel Gallager told TV3 of Spain that this may be the last Oasis tour. A visibly tired Noel explained: " I feel it more this time then anytime previously...It can never feel like the first time because I'm twenty years older"

Taken from Noel's tour diary for oasisinet.com

Hola.

Great show last night. We were a bit rusty after a week off but the gig was mega. Possibly the loudest crowd yet.

Free Peace were outrageous. The kid who plays the electric guitar is far out, man. No plectrum!! I'm being a bit of a muso, but it was stunning.

Off to Barcelona today. Tuff Levi's coming over for a night out. Should be messy.

I'll be out of the game for the next 48 hours. See you on the other side.

"All we are saay-ing is give Free Peace a chance".
