Bono On How He First Met Noel Gallagher

Bono has spoken on how he first met Noel Gallagher when he was in Oasis.

Speaking to the new issue of Q he said "I'm not sure. I think it was in whatever his basement flat was. I can't remember the street but they were just out of the gate. I remember being in that basement and talking shite. And watching his shite turn into gold has been one of the greatest pleasures of my life. I think the next time I saw him, we talked about a support slot. And he said, "You'll do it then?" And I said "Yeah". He was talking about them giving us the support, which is why I love him. Because he makes me laugh. He gave me his autograph."

Noel Gallagher On The Tips He Gave Bradley Cooper For 'A Star Is Born'

Noel Gallagher has spoken about how he gave tips to Bradley Cooper for his movie 'A Star Is Born' that was released earlier this year.

He told the latest issue of Q "I've known Bradley for about six years now. We took him to Glastonbury for the first time and he wanted to see it all. He used to say to me "I want to get it right." The hardest thing in the world is pretending to be a rock star. I've seen the film and for somebody who isn't a singer or a guitar player he carries that shit fucking well. He was saying, "There's a bit of you in there." And I was like, "Really? I don't see that". And apparently it's when he walks across the stage doing this. [Bends both arms and claps twice] He said, "That's you." And I was like, "That is me. That's my patented fucking move".

Noel Gallagher On The Best Thing On Being A Solo Artist

Noel Gallagher has been asked what's the best thing about being a solo artist.

He told the new issue of Q "You don't have to do things by committee. I've taken a few projects now to the point where I thought they were shit and just canned them. You can do that. To be a solo artist and an independent artist is a great place to be because you don't answer to a record label, you don't answer to an A&R department. It can be hairy at times, trying to make it all work, but it's better than I thought it would be. I thought it would be hard work and it's been a breeze. If you can write and you can play, you've got it all".

When questioned on why he thought it would be hard work he said "Well, I'd never done it before. When bands break up and the guitarist goes solo you can count on two fingers the guitarists who have been any good. It's usually the other guy.  Robert Plant and Jimmy Page for instance, Ian Brown and John Squire for instance. What I had in my favour is I'd sung and done gigs, not through desire but necessity, to get the band out of the shit. So nobody was freaking out when they heard my voice. Usually when a guitarist goes solo you go, "Is that what you sound like? Fucking hell!"

The new issue of Q is on sale now.

Bono On Oasis' First Two Albums And Writing A Song With Noel Gallagher

Bono has spoken to the new issue of Q about Oasis and writing a song with Noel Gallagher.

On if Oasis' 'Definitely Maybe' and '(What's The Story) Morning Glory?' were on his radar at the time of their release.

"Of course. Both of those albums changed everybody's lives, including mine. They occupy that space where they own a moment of your life, they own you - you are no longer in control of your emotional life when you hear any of those tunes. Right up to recent times, he has me. He had that rare thing, its very un-Irish, where he refuses to surrender to melancholy. So when he does it just breaks you right open. But most of the time, hes defiant. And defiance is the essence of romance, is it not?

On if he has ever tried to write a song with Noel Gallagher.

"Yeah we have. But very late at night and probably not for human consumption. It might be interplanetary. Its a song that will finally prove that there's no life on earth".

The new issue of Q is out now.

Noel Gallagher On Oasis, Plans For 2019 And Being Nominated For A Mercury Prize

A few bits from Noel Gallagher's interview from the new issue of Q.

On what his outstanding contribution to music is.

"Oasis. Definitely Maybe. I'm not so far up my own arse that I don't recognise that what we did in the first half of the 90s will forever be a touchstone for generations to come".

On his plans for 2019.

"I start with David Holmes in January but I've been in the studio independently because David doesn't allow me to write on my own. I was in Abbey Road for a couple of weeks. It's good being on your own. I'm a middle child. I'm naturally a loner."

On did he rate his chances of winning a Mercury Prize for 'Who Built The Moon?'.

"No, not at all. it was fucking great to be nominated. I was in South Korea when I got the phone call and I was like. "Are you sure! Are you sure they've not got that wrong" it was a good night.

Marcus Mumford On How Noel Gallagher Helped Him With His Songwriting

Taken from an interview with Marcus Mumford about Mumford & Sons new album 'Delta'.

"I actually saw Noel Gallagher at a pub, and we were talking," Marcus recalled. "He's such a nice man - I mean, he's a prick as well, but he's a nice man. And he said to me, 'what are you doing at the moment?' I said, 'ah, man, I'm taking a little bit of a break from writing. I've just found it a bit hard.' And he was like, 'Man, what the FUCK are you doing with your life if you're not writing songs? You're a fucking songwriter. Get on with it!' So I went out and wrote 'Delta' and 'Guiding Light' that week, as a result of that conversation."
