Noel, you are considered someone who usually prepares and goes to the studio with already finished demo songs. Through the producer David Holmes you have given the familiar control in part and even let him give you instructions. How hard was that for you?
To be honest, it was not hard. Of course, going to the studio without finished songs is brave, but I'm fuckin 'brilliant at improvising. I have reached a point where I can do anything. I can definitely afford it. However, I had a short-term fear that the recordings lead to nowhere. Ultimately, it worked, and I really enjoyed this way of working. David Holmeswas pretty strict to me. Whenever I came up with ideas that told Oasis, he said, "Stop playing that!" He gave me advice like, "Play it the way Blondie would play it." I was just sick of it, always with me my acoustic guitar to play songs about the weather. So it seemed like time to try something different.
On the bonus version of the album, " Dead In The Water " is a very touching song. Only you with the acoustic guitar and otherwise very Spartan instrumentation. My girlfriend had tears of emotion in her eyes. Why is not this piece on the new record?
I'll tell you a story: During the tour to "Chasing Yesterday" I had a longer period of free time, I sat in a hotel room and wrote the song within an hour. It just fell out of the sky. Some time later I was with my band at an Irish radio station where we played "The Dying Of The Light". After that we had some time left, and I started playing Dead In The Water. Just for me. Then the band got in - it was one of those magical moments you can not buy. I'm proud of the piece because it shows the essence of my work, the other Noel Gallagher . Stripped down. When we discussed the compilation of the songs of "Who Built The Moon?", The question arose as to whether there would be bonus content, and I said, "No, I have to disappoint you." But fortunately, this live version became recorded - which I did not know at this time. I am glad that the piece has not been lost. I can understand that your friend had to cry, because when I listened to it again, I immediately thought: girls will cry to this piece. Why the piece did not land on the regular album? Well, it's too fuckin 'good. I was just in the moment, started singing, and that's it . I'll do it all for myself, not you, not your girlfriend. I'm just trying to savor the pure moment.
We live in troubled times, the world has to endure , for example, Donald Trump . How can you act as an artist?
Two things: Why does the world have to endure Donald Trump? Why do people even care? Everyone has an opinion on Trump, people go on anti-Trump demonstrations. But honestly, he is not my president. Of course he's an asshole because he's a narcissist. If I lived in America, I would have an opinion on him, but that is not the case. I could not fucking care less . He has no influence on my life, in any way.
You supported U2 on her last tour. Bono is now a good friend of yours. He combines his role as a singer with political commitment. What do you like about him, when you seem to have opposing views on that point?
He is a very passionate person, full of dedication. He tries everything to have a good time. And that translates to the people in his environment. He just became a good friend. What can I say to the guy who is on stage? The lyrics are great and he has a great band in his back. He just finds the right words. That impresses me perhaps the most.
I do not want to upset you and ask you for the umpteenth time for a potential Oasis Reunion. Still, I would like to ask you one last question about your brother . Liam has released his solo debut. Did you hear the record , and if so, do you like it?
Eh. I do not actually listen to stuff from people I'm not a fan of. I listened to a few pieces. And yes, I can understand why the album works. Let's put it this way: People who love this kind of music will be able to listen to it satisfied. In any case, I'm not interested in what Liam says. Recently I met two people in the street, saying it was better than anything from Oasis. Really?

U2
Noel Gallagher had lunch with Irish President Michael Higgins while he was still nursing a hangover.
The 50-year-old star was on tour with rock icons U2 in July when Bono, the band's lead vocalist, arranged for Noel to meet with the Irish politician in Dublin straight after a heavy night of boozing.
Recalling one of the more surreal incidents during The Joshua Tree Tour, Noel said: "We do the gig in Dublin and we go the after show. I'm staying at his house and we leave at half five in the morning.
"The next thing I remember is my phone going and I'm in this place I don't know. It's him on the phone, and he says 'Oh you're alive, where are you?' and I was like, 'Well I'm supposed to be in your house, but I don't recognise, where am I?' I was in a guest house at the bottom of his garden right.
"So he says, 'Oh you're alive anyway, come on, everybody's here waiting for you' and I was kind of going 'What for?' He said, 'For the lunch I'm throwing in your honour, there's 75 guests have arrived'."
The former Oasis star admitted he wasn't in a fit state to attend the bash, which was also attended by the Irish President.
What's more, Noel couldn't believe how relentless the fun-loving band, and Bono in particular, were in their partying ways throughout their tour.
Speaking to Christian O'Connell on the Absolute Radio Breakfast Show, Noel recalled: "I said 'I've only just got out of bed'. He said 'Look the President of Ireland's just arrived and you're sitting next to him, so hurry up'. So I had to get showered, get up there 'whey, ey' and all that.
"The lunch started at three. Do you know what time it finished? Ten past four in the morning."
Noel also admitted Bono is more resilient to the effects of alcohol these days, despite being seven years older than he is.
Remembering another of their shows in Paris that followed a boozy night out, he said: "I'm sweating pure lager, and he gets up and sings like a 24 year old."

Liam Gallagher has vowed to always shun the celebrity champagne circuit, saying: “I’ve been to them parties… you only fool me once.”
The singer, who revels in his jack-the-lad reputation, says he would rather kick back on the sofa than party with stars.
He said: “The amount of parties I’ve turned down. I turn them down constantly. It was full of k**bheads in the Nineties, now it’s full of k**bheads with cameras on their phones. I’d rather stay in.”
The ex- Oasis frontman says brother Noel – who celebrated his 50th in May with stars including Madonna and Bono – is “lost in a celebrity world.”
Noel is to headline the reopening of the IS-bombed Manchester Arena next month alongside pop star Rick Astley.
Liam, 44, performing tomorrow night in Japan, said: “I’m loving singing, I’m not here for celebrity. I’ve done all that nonsense.
“I’ve seen through it. I’m just here to play some gigs, and try to turn the next rock ’n’ roll kids on to it. I’ve no time for partying with Brad Pitt.
“I’m sure he’s a nice guy and throws a great party, but I’m not interested. I want to do my gigs and try and muster up feelings for the youth to carry the torch on.
“That’s what it’s about. It’s time to build rock up from the bottom again.”
The singer added: “I don’t think I was seduced by celebrity. But I definitely like going to nice places to eat.”

U2
Former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher has hit out at U2, saying it's 'insulting' to describe them as a rock 'n' roll band, and called his brother Noel a 'stalker potato'.
Noel is supporting the Irish band on their Joshua Tree tour, but Liam is unimpressed, dismissing them as 'a band that use guitars'.
Liam, 44, who was promoting his solo album As You Were on a US radio station, said: “I dunno what planet they’re on, but they’re not on mine. They’re in a bubble.
“I’m walking the streets keeping it real.
"We walk and we lick our own plates.
“You know when you finish your food, I know them people get someone else to lick their plates for them. I lick my own f***ing plate.
The likes of U2, when they call themselves a rock ’n’ roll band I find that highly insulting.
“They play guitar music and they hit the drums and all that but they’re not a rock ’n’ roll band, they’re a band that use guitars.
“They haven’t done anything rock ’n’ roll in their entire life.”
Liam was once banned by airline Cathay Pacific for abusing passengers and staff.
After the break-up of Oasis and his band Beady Eye, he vowed he would not go solo.
He said of U2: “I’m not saying you need to be snorting drugs off a dwarf’s a***.
“But they need to do something. Have they ever broken a pencil? Have they ever stuck a rubber up their nose? They don’t seem to do f*** all, except for take big pay cheques.”
The Irish band, who began when Liam was four, have released 14 albums, selling almost 200 million copies. They are being supported on their 52-date European and Joshua Tree Tour by Liam’s older brother Noel, 50.
Liam said: “It’s nice to know while he’s out licking Bono’s a*** I’m sort of doing it for real.
“I love our kid, but every time I see him he’s got his arm around some crazy celebrity. It’s like he’s stalking them.
“Every time I see pictures of him, I just see a potato – a stalker potato when he has his arm around Bono.”

Watch (here) as the Oasis legend reflects on his biggest anthem with Radio X's John Kennedy.
Noel Gallagher has discussed the impact of Don't Look Back In Anger, which he says has become something like a "hymn".
When asked about the importance of the 1995 Oasis track, he told Radio X's John Kennedy: "Honestly as the years have gone by, that song is more important than I'll ever be."
"There’s footage on the internet now of people singing it in Manchester with candles and all that," he said, referring to numerous performances made by members of the public following this week's terror attack in the city.
"It is incredible to think that a few generations have attached some kind of importance to that song."
The 49-year-old rocker added: "That song now has become a hymn to something or other".
Talking about performing (What's the Story) Morning Glory? single live, Gallagher mused: "You sometimes think; 'I probably only need to introduce it and play the first chord. I could probably walk of then and nobody would notice.'
"You know 'cause there's just people with their eyes shut, crying and - yeah. It's an amazing thing. It's something I never take for granted either".
Asked whether penning the 1995 track ever made him feel humbled, he replied: "It makes me feel - is it proud the word I'm looking for?
"I don't ever sit there and think I wrote that. I think it came from somewhere else. If I hadn't written it, Bono would have wrote it".
He concluded: "If they fall out of the sky and land on your lap, then lucky you."
You can hear What A Life! Noel At 50 on Radio X on Sunday 28 May at 8pm.

U2
Noel Gallagher will have a very special guest at his upcoming support slot to U2 in Croke Park – his mother Peggy.
The former Oasis star is determined to bring his Mayo-born mother back to Ireland to see him perform at Croker this summer.
A showbiz source revealed: “Noel is planning on bringing Peggy over with his wife Sara, daughter Anais and two sons, Donovan and Sonny.
“He knows it will be a special night supporting U2 in Croke Park and doesn’t want his mum to miss it.
“Peggy loves coming back from Manchester so it’s a perfect opportunity for her to take a trip home.”
Peggy made an appearance in the recent Oasis documentary Supersonic and spoke out about the strained relationship between her world-famous sons.
“I think there was that bit of jealously with Liam and Noel,” she said. “Noel was beautiful as a baby and then Liam comes along – it takes the limelight off you.
“You could tell disagreement was there with them. I was glad they were in a band together. I would not have wanted Liam in a band without Noel.
“But it all happened too quick.”
Peggy, 74, also recalled the day Liam came back with a recording contract. “Of course, I thought ‘this is great’,” she said.
“I never really thought it would go the way it did, though. Liam said: ‘All I want, mum, is to earn a bit of money and get myself some new clothes’. And then it all went haywire.”
Noel will take to the stage on July 8th in Croke Park ahead of U2 on their sold out Joshua Tree tour.
The singer is close pals with Bono and he and wife Sara holidayed with the Hewson family at Eze in the South of France last summer.
Meanwhile, Noel is spending this weekend celebrating his 50th birthday part in New York. And stunning Sara had one hell of a surprise for him when she arranged a private meeting with his hero Gerry Seinfeld while in the city.
Sara posted a picture of a happy looking Noel with the comedian, before later that night posting an image of him at dinner sitting between Sienna Miller and Helena Christensen with the hashtag #ifCarlsbergmadewives.
Noel turns 50 on May 29th.

Noel Gallagher's Mum Will Be Guest Of Honour When He Supports U2 In Croke Park

Liam’s most explosive interview yet
Calls Noel out for being jealous
Admits he still loves his brother
His Views on Coldplay
Liam speaks exclusively to Q magazine this month about his return to music, his emotional past few years, his thoughts on politics, throwing stones at Jamie Oliver’s window and of course, his brother Noel. Liam really didn’t hold back in what could be his most explosive interview yet.
The New Liam
Liam on the last few years… These last few years have been emotional. Eye-opening. Mind-bending. But emotional.
Liam on his girlfriend… Debbie saved me. No bullsh*t. Debbie swooped me up as I was falling, she just said, ‘Stop being a dickhead.’ She got me out of the house, introduced me to all kinds of people outside my world, got me doing new things. I’ve lived in London a long time, but I only really knew Hampstead. She took me to new places. I’ve been to Dalston, man.
Liam on his new fitness regime… I run around seven miles every day, leaving about 5am. Unless I’ve been out on the sauce, then I’m getting in at 5am. Normally, though, seven miles.
Liam on climbing trees… Climb the odd tree too. Climbed one the other day. I was running on the Heath and I thought, ‘That looks like a nice tree, I’m going to climb that f*cking tree.’ Climbed it and sat there with my hood up for about 10 minutes.
Liam on waking up Jamie Oliver… It’s like Stella Street, round here: Jamie Oliver lives up the road. I got told off for throwing stones at his windows p*ssed-up, asking him to chuck down some bacon rolls.
Liam on becoming friends with his milkman… He’s f*cking top, he gave me a pint of lactose-free milk for nothing the other day.
Talking about Noel Gallagher... When Noel loses his fame… Nobody will really understand what it’s like to leave the bubble unless you’ve been in the bubble. When our kid falls out of the bubble he will fall hard. That big machine around him. The itinerary. Noel Gallagher’s life is all mapped out for him from the moment he wakes up.
Liam on laying off Noel… Oh, I know. I know. Lots of people say I need to chill out about Noel. Not until they stop Twitter. That c*nt will always get it from me.
Liam on Noel hitting back… He slagged me off when we were in the same band! He’d do his interview, I’d come in to do mine and they’d go, ‘He doesn’t like you, does he?’ I’d be saying how great he was. He still has pops. He needs to know that I ain’t going away.
Liam on Oasis splitting… I was more disappointed that Oasis split up. I wonder if he was. I’ve never heard him say he was disappointed about Oasis. No, he’s got what he wanted.
Liam on Tweeting about Noel… Well, yeah. I’ve heard they really annoy him. Someone told me the other week that the only thing that does his nut in are my tweets. Good. They will carry on and they will get bigger and better
Liam on reuniting with Noel…. Do you think I want to be in a band with that c*nt? He says, ‘Liam has to change.’ Get to f*ck. So I just tweet when he drops the ball because I will not let him get away with murder.
Noel was quoted as saying Oasis wouldn’t get back together “not even if all the starving children in the world depended on it”
Liam’s thoughts on this quote… It doesn’t hurt me mate, doesn’t hurt me. If the guy doesn’t want me back in our band then I don’t want to either. I don’t want to be in a band with someone who doesn’t want me.
Liam on Noel’s celebrity friends… Whatever next? Robbie Williams turning up on his next record? I’d have to send the police round. Put it this way, Noel lives in a £17million house. That changes you, I reckon. You have appropriate furniture, appropriate kitchens, appropriate red wine that Bono’s recommended. And Damon Albarn becomes your mate. Fair dos, but not for me.
Liam on missing Noel… I miss the Noel in the film, that’s the Noel I know. And I do love him. I don’t sit at home crying into a picture of him, though, and I’m sure he doesn’t of me either. But I’m an energy and I bet he misses that energy.
Current affairs
Liam on Politics… I am partial to Prime Minister’s Questions though. I’m not bothered about politics, Theresa May and that other c*nt can get on with it
The boring music of today
Liam on retiring… No, it’s f*cking sh*t. It’s boring without me, isn’t it? On my game I will roast anyone. Anyone. Whether it’s interviews, photoshoots, on record or on that f*cking stage. And there are a lot of people getting away with murder on that stage from my generation.
New music
Liam on his new songs… We’ve demoed some songs and it’s sounding…I am not embarking on a solo ‘career’. Everyone should know that. There are just 10, 11 songs I’ve written that are eligible to be recorded. They’ve got flair, attitude, the melodies are sick and the words are f*cking funny.
Liam on when they will be released… We’ll record them this year and release it next year. It’ll shock people. It’s a record written by me, that’s got all the right ingredients and sounds well tasty. You won’t be scratching your chin. It’s not Pink Floyd and it ain’t Radiohead. It’s chin-out music.
Liam on his influences… Music isn’t influenced by music, I don’t think. It’s influenced by life. To have good music you have to have an interesting, varied life. Sh*t music comes from boring lives. The reason why so much music is boring, no matter how many bells and whistles and strobes they stick on it, is because they have boring lives. My wonky life over the last few years is going to make for better music.

That was Noel. We went to George Michael’s house after the Olympics. He was there, might have been with one of Take That. He was down at the bar at the end of the garden. George Michael was on at the Olympics, we [Beady Eye] were on at the Olympics, and where’s Noel? Watching it on telly, drinking a cocktail in George’s garden. This is the same man who slagged George off for Shoot The Dog. You’ve got some f*cking nerve. I said, ‘You alright, you seen that?’ ‘Yeah, it was alright.’ ‘You’re weird, you c*nt.’

The rocker has revealed he prefers the quiet life now as he prepares to launch his solo comeback.
Now, as he launches his solo comeback — which I revealed he would but he denied — the ex-Oasis frontman is a self-confessed recluse.
In a stunning interview, Liam reveals he’s cut ties with most of his former allies since his split from Beady Eye in 2014, dedicating himself to his “saviour”, girlfriend and manager Debbie Gwyther.
That’s despite their huge fights, as revealed by The Sun on Sunday and Bizarre.
Liam told Q Magazine: “I can count my friends on no hands. I don’t have any apart from Debbie. I do my own thing. I’m a lone wolf.”
In his Nineties heyday Liam was a regular at celeb haunts like the Met Bar in London, with models and hangers-on desperate to be in his company.
Now he prefers more down-to-earth company — like his north London milkman. Liam said: “He’s f****** top. He gave me a pint of lactose-free milk for nothing the other day.”
But that doesn’t mean he’s gone soft.
The string of insults Liam throws at his brother shows his venom is as strong as ever.
He blames Noel for the break-up of Oasis in 2009, saying: “Every f****** soundcheck he’d stand in the middle and sing. The geezer’s got small-man syndrome.
“He never had the nerve back in the day, so he joined my band and slowly wormed his way to the front, got his balls together.
“You know when your kid puts on make-up and tries to look like a grown-up for a laugh? It’s like that. They’re playing at being frontmen. They look stupid.”
Liam compares Noel to “Dermot O'Leary with a guitar” and lays into him for being pals with former nemeses Damon Albarn.
He said: “Whatever next? Robbie Williams turning up on his next record? Noel lives in a £17million house. That changes you.
“You have appropriate furniture, appropriate kitchens, appropriate red wine Bono’s recommended. And Damon Albarn becomes your mate.”

Paying a fitting homage to David Bowie is no easy task, but the Brit Awards are trying their hardest.
I can reveal bosses are putting together an A-list supergroup in a bid to lay on the ultimate tribute at next month’s bash.
The band, which will hopefully include former Britpop foes Noel Gallagher and Damon Albarn, plus Bono, will perform alongside iconic British acts Coldplay and Adele.
Organisers are even considering asking ITV to extend the show by 30 minutes to give the spectacular the time it deserves.
Yesterday a music insider revealed: “A few artists approached the Brits to ask if they could be involved in the David Bowie tribute as they want to make sure it is done properly.
“He was a British icon and they want to provide a credible farewell which can honour that.
“The band will be full of musicians who grew up with Bowie and were inspired by him, meaning artists like Noel, Damon and Bono.
“It is unlikely to involve young acts such as Sam Smith or Ed Sheeran, but there will be a few artists who are already singing on the night who will be asked if they want to take part too.
“The organisers are putting everything into it. If they get it right, it will be epic.”

U2
Noel Gallagher has described teaming up with U2 at their London gig earlier this week as a "dream come true".
The former Oasis guitarist joined the band onstage during the band's O2 Arena show on October 26, performing their hit 'I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For' before segueing into a cover of The Beatles' 'All You Need Is Love'.
Gallagher joined the Irish four-piece at the end of their two-hour-plus show on acoustic guitar and backing vocals, footage of which you can watch below.
"I'd like to bring out of one my heroes, one of the band's heroes to help us out with this next song. Will you welcome to the stage the high flying bird himself Noel Gallagher," Bono announced to the crowd before Gallagher took to the stage.
Now speaking to Audioboom, Gallagher said: "It was a dream come true to be asked to get up [on stage] with them and then it was a dream come true to be asked to sing that song ['I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For']."
"They're friends of mine. I've been friends with Bono for about 20 years. It was a great moment. I was stood in the wings and they were introducing me and I was thinking 'This is actually going to happen now, this is amazing'. They are one of my favourite ever, ever bands and that's one of the best songs ever written. It was a blast, a real honour."
Gallagher added: "I thought my catering was pretty good until I was at U2 the other night, which was honestly something else."

Rock critic and editor of The Quietus John Doran interviewed Gallagher for Noisey’s The British Masters series and asked him who could drink more: Morrissey, Bono, or Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie. Gallagher responded with a predictably entertaining answer:
Bono, hands down. Bobby don’t drink. Morrissey is good crack. He can drink, and remains—doesn’t really get drunk though—he remains equally as vicious from the f—king minute you meet him until seven hours later. I lighten up once I’ve had a drink. Not Morrissey.
But Bono, he is really f—king brilliant company. I’ve been drinking with him, and I’ve been leaving a bar at 6 in the morning and he’s on the bar singing opera. And he’s got a f—king gig the following night with 70,000 people. And I’m being escorted out like James Brown—f—king pissed.
