Oasis, ABBA And Guns N' Roses Are Bands Fans Most Want To Reunite

ABBA is the group we’d most like to make a comeback.

The Swedish icons of 70s and 80s pop took 28% of a poll, with second place going to Guns N’ Roses. Oasis were third. A survey of 1,000 people was carried out by Samsung after Kate Bush’s long- awaited return to the stage.

When it came to previous comeback artists that people most regretted not going to see during their return performances, one in 10 people wished they had not missed the Rolling Stones followed by Kate Bush and Take That.

Whilst the nation had to wait 35 years to see the talents of Kate Bush back on stage , the singer’s comeback this week has also resulted in an increase in music streams on Deezer.

The Samsung partner recorded an increase of 120% in the number of streams of her biggest hits the day after Kate Bush’s comeback was first announced in March, whilst there was a 701% increase the Saturday prior to her first comeback gig last Tuesday when compared with her stream count from the same time last month.

Of the performers no longer with us, the flamboyant front man of Queen, Freddy Mercury (22%) was the act people most wished they had been able to see perform live in concert beating the hip swinging, Elvis Presley (14%) and ‘Smooth Criminal,’ Michael Jackson (12%).

Samsung’s Robert King said: “It’s great to see that music from previous decades still remains popular across all generations today.”

Oasis, The Killers, The Beatles And More Voted To Have Weirdest Song Lyrics

The Killers fought off competition from the likes of Black Eyed Peas and Taylor Swift in a competition to find the song with the weirdest lyric.

A survey suggests the line, "are we human or are we dancer?" in the song Human is the most confusing.

Carly Rae Jepsen's Call Me Maybe placed fifth with the lyric: "Before you came into my life, I missed you so bad".

The top 10 also included Michael Jackson's Earth Song and Champagne Supernova by Oasis.

The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers previously revealed the lyric in Human was based on a quote from the author Hunter S. Thompson, "we're raising a generation of dancers".

"I took it and ran," Brandon said. "I guess it bothers people that it's not grammatically correct, but I think I'm allowed to do whatever I want."

The research was carried out by online streaming service Blinkbox Music, which questioned 2,000 adults.

Managing director Mark Bennett said: "It's true that song lyrics are sometimes as crazy as a box of frogs, but then that's show business. It would be a really boring world if everything was logical and made sense."

Almost two-fifths of those surveyed said they do not usually understand the words they hear in pop songs.

The Top 10

01: The Killers, Human "Are we human, or are we dancer?"

02: The Beatles, I Am The Walrus "I am the eggman, they are the eggmen, I am the walrus, goo goo g' joob."

03: Michael Jackson, Earth Song "What about elephants? Have we lost their trust?"

04: Lionel Richie, All Night Long "Tom bo li de se de moi ya, yeah jambo jambo."

05: Carly Rae Jepsen, Call Me Maybe "Before you came into my life, I missed you so bad."

06: Black Eyed Peas, Boom Boom Pow "Beats so big I'm stepping on leprechauns."

07: Duran Duran, The Reflex "The reflex is an only child, he's waiting in the park."

08: Wham! Club Tropicana "Club Tropicana, drinks are free, fun and sunshine, there's enough for everyone, all that's missing is the sea."

09: Taylor Swift, Love Story -"Cause you were Romeo, I was a scarlet letter, and my daddy said stay away from Juliet."

10: Oasis, Champagne Supernova "Slowly walking down the hall, faster than a cannonball."

20 Years Of Gallagher Wit And Wisdom

Can it really be two decades since Oasis released their debut album? The music may not have always hit the same highs since, but Noel and Liam Gallagher have delivered some classic soundbites down the years. Here are some of their best...

NOEL ON LIAM...

“Liam’s the angriest man you’ll ever meet. He’s like a man with a fork in a world of soup.”

“To work with members of your family is pretty difficult. Especially when one of the members of your family is Liam Gallagher.”

“I remember him being furious that day (shooting the Whatever video) because it’s the one time I’ve been more drunk than he has.”

LIAM ON NOEL...

“The best bit about the early days was when our kid got chinned.”

“We get on better when we don’t see each other and don’t speak to each other.”

“His songs? They’re what gets me out of bed in the morning. He’s top. A fantastic songwriter. He’s the devil, isn’t he man?”

ON THEIR RIVALS...

“Mumford and Sons look like they’ve all got nits. Bloc Party look like they belong on University Challenge.”

“Just because you sell lots of records doesn’t mean to say you’re any good. Look at Phil Collins.”

“I’m sure she (Florence and the Machine) is a nice girl... but she sounds like someone has stood on her foot.”

ON OTHER STARS...

“For Michael Jackson to come over to this country and dress in a white robe thinking he’s the Messiah – I mean who does he think he is? Me?”

“Why is Posh Beckham writing a book of her memoirs? She can’t even chew gum and walk in a straight line at the same time, let alone write a book.”

“Wayne Rooney looks like a balloon with Weetabix crushed on top.”

ON POLITICS...

“Are they hoping one of these guys from the G8 sees Annie Lennox singing Sweet Dreams (at Live8) and thinks, “She might have a point there, you know”?

“Politics is like football for me. Labour is my team and even if you don’t like a striker you don’t give up supporting the whole team.”

“I asked him (Tony Blair) how he managed to stay up all night for the election and he said, ‘Probably not by the same means you did.’”

ON THEIR SUCCESS...

“I was a superhero in the 90s. McCartney, Weller, Townsend, Richards... my first album’s better than all their first albums. Even they’d admit that.”

“If I knew how to write another Definitely Maybe, I’d do one every year. It astounds me that I wrote those songs.”

“I wanted the big hairdo, big shades, big car, big house, swimming pool, jet, a mirrored top hat and a chimp. All of it.”

ON BEING FAMOUS...

“I stand in the queue at Waitrose. More rock stars should do that. The staff are really blase about me now. They’ll be like, ‘Him? Oh he’s in here all the time. And between me and you, he doesn’t eat very well.’”

“Without sounding arrogant, success fits my ego. I’d feel cheated without it.”

“Liam got a Rolex. I got a Rolls Royce. Which is brilliant, because I can’t drive and Liam can’t tell the time.”

ON A REUNION...

“You can never predict what you’ll be doing in 20 years’ time, but I guess if everyone remains vaguely slim and hasn’t gone bald, then it’s on the cards. Forever.”

Russell Brand Finds Liam Gallagher Sexy

Last year we revealed that Liam Gallagher had called Russell Brand a “dick” after we spent a boozy night with the ex-Oasis frontman.

But now Russell is having his say on the matter, admitting that despite Liam’s jibe he still finds the star sexy.

The funnyman, 37, confessed: “Liam’s music has given me pleasure, but it turns out he thinks I am a dick. That is the price I have paid.

“I am very good friends with his brother and they have a notorious spat.

“Noel is a proper serious good mate. But I like Liam. If you see him on the stage he is very sexy and a brilliant rock star.”

Russ added: “One of the cultural mistakes we make is we expect people who are good at one thing to be good at everything. Take Michael Jackson. He was very good pop star but he had issues in his private life.”

Which is clearly a lot nicer than what Liam had to say about Russ at last year’s Cosmo awards.

He blasted in November: “He’s a dick. I don’t care about any of his relationships. All I know is anyone can do better than go out with him.”

Rock Stars Are 'Extinct' Says Noel Gallagher

Rock superstars have died out because the music industry no longer makes them enough money, Noel Gallagher has claimed.

The Oasis star, feels artists such as Michael Jackson and Guns n’ Roses enjoyed the best years, benefitting from huge record company advances.

Gallagher, 45, said his finest work was now behind him. He was at his most creative while pushing to make the Britpop band he formed with brother Liam, 39, a success.

He said: “Rock stardom will die because nobody will make enough money any more to be rock stars.

“Everybody will be jobbing musicians. It’s unbelievable. The music industry has changed beyond all recognition. The music business we signed in to does not exist any more.

“What is fascinating about that is that there was a way of making money and selling records that got happened upon in the Sixties and it worked for 30-odd years then all of a sudden, in under a decade, it’s gone, never to return.

“It used to be about the A&R man going to see gigs, demos and people going into record labels saying ‘give us a chance’ and it’s not like that any more.”

Gallagher also feels his millionaire lifestyle has detached him from his audience.

He said: “You can’t be a hypocrite and write songs about the plight of the working man when you are sipping champagne at eight in the morning in the South of France with a supermodel.”

Oasis shot to stardom thanks to hits like Live Forever and Cigarettes & Alcohol.

Their second album, (What’s The Story) Morning Glory, sold 23 million copies worldwide.

Oasis, The Beatles, Rihanna, Madonna And More Feature In The UK's Best Selling Singles Chart

The Beatles have held off artist such as Elvis Presley and Madonna to be declared the biggest selling UK singles act since charts began 60 years ago.

The Fab Four notched up 17 number ones during their relatively brief eight year chart domination, but split more than 40 years ago.

But performers whose careers have decades longer in some cases - such as Sir Cliff Richard - have failed to outsell them, a new Radio 2 chart reveals.

A countdown to be broadcast today of the all-time biggest sellers since the singles chart began in 1952 - the year the Queen took the throne - shows The Beatles are still unsurpassed.

Presley, who continued to have strong sales in the past decade thanks to a reissue campaign with tracks such as A Little Less Conversation, is ranked second.

Sir Cliff who has had 124 top 40 hits and 14 number ones finished in third place in the list compiled by the Official Charts Company.

Madonna, who has made the top 40 more than 60 times, is ranked fourth.

There are some surprising entries with Rihanna, who charted for the first time in only 2005 is in tenth place, yet The Rolling Stones - who racked up their first hit in 1963 - make it to only number 13. However, although the wrinkly rockers have continued to release singles over the years, they have failed to dent the top ten since 1981.

Tony Blackburn will count down the chart from 2pm to 5pm which shows US rapper Eminem (placed 18th) is ahead of enduring chart stars such as Sir Tom Jones and U2.

DJ and producer David Guetta (ranked 49) manages to finish ahead of big names such as Coldplay (60) and Duran Duran (51).

Sir Paul McCartney is listed twice for his Beatles years and his solo career (number 11), and George Michael is similarly in the chart twice, for his own hits (21) and as a member of Wham! (43).

Blackburn, who will play each artist's biggest hit in the Bank Holiday show , said: "This chart offers a fascinating look at the past 60 years in music and shows the impact that modern stars like Rihanna and Katy Perry have had.

"The list is really varied and will provide something for everyone. There are definitely a few surprises in store - Coldplay being at 60 for one! It is sure to be an interesting listen and will be a great way to spend the Bank Holiday afternoon."

Radio 2's head of music Jeff Smith said: "This list is intriguing, Adele is missing and we've all forgotten just how huge artists such as Shakin' Stevens, Boney M and UB40 were in the UK in the Seventies and Eighties."

The Top 60:

01. Beatles

Noel Gallagher Compares Michael Jackson To Jade Goody

And says the King of Pop's death is 'dragging on a bit'...

Noel Gallagher has taken a a cheeky swipe at the intense media interest surrounding Michael Jackson's death saying it's “dragging on a bit”.

The guitarist even compared Jackson to the late Jade Goody in the 'Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere' blog on Oasis' official website.

Speaking ahead of their performance at Coventry's Ricoh Arena and the day of Michael Jackson's memorial service, Noel said: “This Mike Jackson thing's dragging on a bit, innit? Who do they think he is, Jade Goody?

“Listen out for the dedication tonight. There's bound to be one. If it's during Live Forever I may do a little poo-poo... then vomit.”

Gigwise was at the show and Noel must have been struck with a sudden bout of amnesia as he didn't mention Jackson's name once.
