Noel Gallagher Says Morrissey Is ‘The Funniest Guy Ever’

Noel Gallagher has praised Morrissey as ‘the funniest guy ever’ – after the pair shared a night out together and The Smiths legend took a shine to his wife.

Today saw Gallagher announce his return with his upcoming new High Flying Birds Album ‘Who Built The Moon?’, along with details of a huge UK and Ireland arena tour. To mark the occasion, the Oasis turned solo star gave an interview with Christian O’Connell on the Absolute Radio Breakfast Show this morning – where he revealed details of his evening with Moz and wife Sara MacDonald.

“I love that guy, he’s unbelievable,” said Gallagher. “I had a night out with him a few years back in LA, and he was just, he kills me, he was just the funniest guy ever.

“I bumped into him in a hotel and me and Sara were out one night. We were sat in a different bar, and I went to the toilet.  And I said ‘Oh can I get my wife to come and meet you?’  He went ‘Oh I don’t know, is she nice?’  And I said ‘Yeah, she’s gorgeous’.

“She came and he kind of looked at her and he went ‘ooh’. I was like ‘Wow, what a dude’.  Yeah he’s unbelievable, funny.”

Noel Gallagher 'Was Never Asked To Play One Love Gig By Organisers'

Noel Gallagher was reportedly never asked to perform at the One Love Manchester gig by organisers.

Following Noel's 'no show' at Sunday's concert, his younger brother Liam took a very public dig at the High Flying Birds frontman on Twitter.

However, reports suggest Noel had never been invited to play by organisers or Ariana Grande's manager Scooter Braun in the first place.

“Noel has been getting a real bashing for not being at the gig, which is totally out of order," a source said.

“The fact he wasn’t asked to even perform at any point by any of the organisers makes a mockery of Liam’s claims.”

They added to The Sun: “Noel also felt the concert was aimed at fans of pop, not rock, a belief shared by Manchester icons Johnny Marr, The Stone Roses, Happy Mondays and Morrissey."

It comes as it was revealed the 50-year-old rocker had quietly made an incredible gesture by donating all the proceeds from Oasis’ 1995 hit Don't Look Back In Anger to the We Love Manchester fund.

The song, written by Noel, became an unofficial anthem for the victims of last month’s Manchester bombing after grieving people attending a memorial broke into a spontaneous rendition following a minute’s silence.

A source told the Mirror: “Very soon after the attack, Noel contacted the charity and offered to donate subsequent royalties from the track to the victims’ families.

“But he insisted it was done on the proviso that it was not publicised.”

Earlier Simon Kelner wrote in the i newspaper: "I happen to know that Noel has been donating all profits from sales of ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’ since the bombing to the We Love Manchester campaign.’

Noel acknowledged those claims as true, as he retweeted a link to the article on his official Twitter account.
Since the gig, Don’t Look Back In Anger leapt to No. 27 in the Official Charts midweeks on Monday, after re-entering at No. 66 in the wake of the attacks last Friday.

A spokesman for Noel said last week: “Sadly, Noel will not be at the concert this weekend. "He’s been out of the country on a long-standing family trip since before the concert was announced and is unable to attend.

“Needless to say he is very supportive of the event and wishes everyone huge success on the day.”

Russell Brand Describes Noel Gallagher As A 'Chippy Bloke'

The 41-year-old comedian has a long list of celebrity pals, including the former Oasis band member, who he believes is a ''normal'' person, and will occasionally show a hint of ''wisdom'' when the air are together.

Speaking to NME magazine about the musician, the 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall' actor said: ''Sometimes he's just a normal, quite chippy bloke from Manchester, but t other times you glimpse his wisdom.''

And Russell has revealed musician Morrissey - whose full name is Steven Patrick Morrissey - is ''always obtuse and vague''.

Noel Gallagher Regrets Forgetting His Time With David Bowie

The 48-year-old former Oasis star was introduced to the music legend - who passed away in January from cancer at the age of 69 - backstage at his concert at Wembley Stadium in London in 1995.

Noel wishes he hadn't been so intoxicated at the time and admits if there wasn't a photo of the two pop icons together he'd have no memory of their encounter.

Speaking as he hosted a special show for Absolute Radio - which can be listened to at Absoluteradio.co.uk - he recalled: ''I went to see Bowie at Wembley Arena and he was being supported by Morrissey. ''Somebody came up to me and said would you like to come and meet David. And I was like, 'Yeah of course.' There's a picture of it, of me and him and I've obviously said something funny to him, because he's in hysterics and I've no idea what I've said to him. Had that picture not existed I don't think I'd have any recollection of ever meeting him. Apart from where I remember being taken into his dressing room and it was like I was too young and too wasted for it to dawn on me that I was meeting one of the greats.''

Noel is a massive fan of the 'Space Oddity' hitmaker and is expected to take to the stage at the BRIT Awards as part of a super-group that will pay tribute to Bowie.

The 'Lock All the Doors' singer can remember listening to his music all the time when he was younger and cites him as a major influence on his own career.

Noel - who covered Bowie's hit 'Heroes' as a B-side to the 1997 Oasis single 'D'You Know What I Mean?' - recalled: ''I was into him like right early on. I used to have this cassette that when we were driving round Manchester on the dole and it was two songs of David Bowie followed by two songs of T Rex followed by two songs of Slade on a C90 cassette.''

Noel Gallagher Says Beyoncé, Rihanna And Madonna Have Nothing Of Interest To Say

Gobby Noel Gallagher claims singers such as Beyoncé, Rihanna and Madonna have nothing of interest to say.

The ex-Oasis star no longer buys music mags or reads interviews with musicians.

He said: “Ninety nine per cent of artists having nothing interesting to say. I don’t give a s*** what they have to say.

“If Morrissey is on the cover of a mag I will buy it as he has something to say – or Kanye West, because he is funny.”

Noel also claims no interviewer has ever asked him a decent question.

He said: “If I could interview myself I’d ask me: ‘Why am I so f***ing brilliant at what I do?’”

The singer-songwriter, 48, also dismissed rumours that he will reform Oasis with his estranged brother Liam, 42.

He said: “We don’t talk. He is not a nice person. For me it’s not worth getting back together. What would it take for us to reform? A hell of a lot of money.”

Outspoken Noel hasn’t been playing Oasis’s biggest hit Wonderwall on his current tour. But he claims he still likes the song, which he penned back in 1995.

He said: “I just don’t feel like playing it. I have no problem playing Oasis songs because – after all – I wrote them.”

But in a blast at Liam, who used to perform the track with his band Beady Eye, Noel said: “If I were Mick Jagger and I performed songs on stage on my own that I’d written together with Keith Richards then I’d feel a fraud.”

Asked if he thought Oasis fans should listen to his new music, he said: “No. I would never tell people to listen to my music. I don’t give a s*** what you’re listening to.”

Noel Gallagher On The Drinking Skills Of Bono, Morrissey And Bobby Gillespie

Noel Gallagher—who recently said he’s lost “a f–king shitload of money” since Oasis split and, in potentially related news, advised One Direction’s Zayn Malik to “f–kin’ get a good accountant because life is very f–kin’ long”—is back with more colorful insights about the rock world.

Rock critic and editor of The Quietus John Doran interviewed Gallagher for Noisey’s The British Masters series and asked him who could drink more: Morrissey, Bono, or Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie. Gallagher responded with a predictably entertaining answer:

Bono, hands down. Bobby don’t drink. Morrissey is good crack. He can drink, and remains—doesn’t really get drunk though—he remains equally as vicious from the f—king minute you meet him until seven hours later. I lighten up once I’ve had a drink. Not Morrissey.

But Bono, he is really f—king brilliant company. I’ve been drinking with him, and I’ve been leaving a bar at 6 in the morning and he’s on the bar singing opera. And he’s got a f—king gig the following night with 70,000 people. And I’m being escorted out like James Brown—f—king pissed.

Noel Gallagher Chooses His Favourite Smiths Songs

In an online chat with fans, the former Oasis guitarist and songwriter talked about another bunch of Manchester greats, The Smiths, and which of their tunes he loves the most.

Ever wondered which songs top Noel Gallagher’s Smiths playlist?

In an online chat with fans, Noel named There Is A Light That Never Goes Out, The Queen Is Dead, Rusholme Ruffians, These Things Take Time, Rubber Ring and Asleep as the best songs that Morrissey, Johnny Marr, Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce wrote during their short five year career.

“Amongst others,” quipped Noel, who has recently welcomed Johnny Marr on stage with him at some of his solo shows, at the end of the list.

The Smiths, who released four albums between 1984 and 1987 and had more than a dozen hit singles including Panic, How Soon Is Now? and This Charming Man, often top reader polls as the Manchester band most people would like to see reform - alongside Gallagher’s own Oasis.

In the same chat, on website Reddit, Noel also confessed a guilty admiration for 1980s pop band Tears For Fears and said he’d love a chance to duet with Pink Floyd’s Dave Gillmore, Yardbird’s guitarist Jeff Beck and Davie Bowie.

“If he (Bowie) would even shake a maraca for one tune, that’d be great,” he said about the 1970s superstar.

On classical music, Noel expressed an admiration for celebrated conductor Ennio Morricone - famous for his soundtracks to films such as A Fistful of Dollars, Once Upon A Time In The West, The Good, The Bad And The Ugly.

“I’ve seen ’im twice in the last five years,” Noel said. “And his music does bring a tear to my eye. I think he’s a genius.

“Like me.”

Noel Gallagher's: Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere Vol 3: The Good, The Bad And The Bubbly (Part 8)

Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere Vol 3: The Good, The Bad And The Bubbly:

Now then... What's happening? Out or nowt? Probably nowt eh?

So I get to Korea... South Korea to be precise... Seoul in fact to be exact. I do fucking LOVE that place and here are a few reasons why:

I'm met by quite a few fans at the airport after a deeply unrelaxing 13 hour flight...

Has anyone seen that film BIRDMAN by the way? If you haven't then don't... You're not missing much.

I'm given a present in a large bag which had drawn on the front: FUCKing AMAZing PRESent...

It was a painting of our Liam... AMAZing indeed!!

Managed to make it to the hotel just before a quite spectacular electrical thunderstorm. I had a sensational view from the 32nd floor... Good gear!

The last time I was out there it was my birthday and the kids really did push the boat out. This time they outdid themselves... It would seem everyday is my birthday in Seoul!!

The gigs were just unbelievable, not for anything I did I might add, simply because those fans are truly incredible...very special...seemingly mostly teenage girls (which is nice). Not quite sure what I've done to deserve that at such a late state in the game but...nice one!

The screams are fucking loud. You have to hear it to believe it. The synchronised hand waving is psychedelic, the singing is breathtaking and on top of all that they la,la,la all the guitar solos and brass parts. Not to mention the entire crowd singing Live Forever word for word, note perfect, in the gap before the encore!!!! I wish you could experience it, it really is summat else.

So sadly we leave on Easter Sunday. We head for Japan. The flight on Korean Airlines takes about an hour and a half. Very uneventful. The perfect flight. We get to immigration to be greeted by huge signs saying: SPECIAL INSPECTIONS TO PREVENT TERRORISM... It takes us two hours stood in the same queue inching slowly towards a counter that is literally 20 feet away... The flight was an hour and a half! It was brutal. There was some old Hitler-esque woman randomly shouting "mister you no push in!!!". At no-one in particular I might add... Just as I get within one person of actually getting through to the other side a Korean Air Stewardess appears out of nowhere holding what looks like a black clipboard, walks up to me and shows it to me without saying a word. I'm not sure what the fuck is going on at this point. On 'the clipboard' is a post it note with some random numbers written on it...K175-2c??? She's looking at me... I'm looking at her... There is a long silence.........??..........??...........??..........??

"Sir is this your flight number and seat number?"

"Erm..dunno...KEV!!!???"(Kev is my security guard and yes it was my flight number and seat number)

"You left this on the seat next to you."

It was my fucking iPad which I hadn't even realised I'd lost and this lady had gone out of her way and somehow managed, after 2 hours I might add, to find me in amongst a mob of angry tourists. Do we think that would have happened at Heathrow or anywhere else in the western world? Oh I think fucking not!!

People of South Korea.

You are amazing.
Your presents are fucking amazing if a little weird.

Your enthusiasm for a tune is unbelievable.

Your synchronised hand waving should be made into an Olympic sport.

Your air hostesses are angelic in the extreme and your devotion to barbecued meat stuffs is exceptional… (Do NOT tell Morrissey I said that!).
I love you very much.

You currently find me in the great city of Osaka...pissing down.
Keep it livid yeah?

ONWARDS.

GD.

"My wife. My mum is a staggering individual. McCartney because he's McCartney and he's still a dude. There's no such thing as The Greatest, but David Bowie would be way up there. Neil Young, he's just a fucking dude. I want to be Neil Young when I grow up - that's what I want to be. John Lydon is initially intimidating, but really he just wants a cuddle and for you to tell him you love him. Weller is a genius. Johnny Marr is a genius. Morrissey is fucking devastatingly cutting and funny and he's not got a good word to say about anyone or anything and I love him for that. He's misunderstood for sure."

On his kids.. 'I don't want my fucking kids talking like Ali G, I'd like them to get on in life.'

On his life... "A champagne cork popping and the Pogues' track Fiesta - that's the sound of my social life.

On his opinions... 'my opinion is not wrong or right - it's just an opinion.'

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds Next Single 'Riverman' Will Be Out In February

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds' next single will be the 'Riverman' and available on February 23, 2015 according to AMAZON.

Album opener 'Riverman' drifts on a blissful acoustic grove, before building to a skyscraping guitar solo and a gentle sax solo.

Noel says "It's the sound of 1970's Sunset Boulevard with Santana playing lead guitar over a pothead groove, and a Pink Floyd saxophone player in the background".

He said the track was inspired by a night out with Russell Brand and Morrissey in Los Angeles.

The solo in 'Riverman' is very good and performed by Paul Stacey and very reminiscent of David Crosby.
