Roger Daltrey And Liam Gallagher Form Supergroup For A Special Performance

The Who Frontman Roger Daltrey Teamed Up With Liam Gallagher To Form A Supergroup For A Special Performance On Revived UK TV Show TFI Friday.

Daltrey and Gallagher performed The Who's classic 1965 hit My Generation with The Lightning Seeds' Ian Broudie, original Oasis member Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs, and Ringo Starr's drummer son Zak Starkey live on the entertainment show on Friday (12Jun15).

The series, hosted by British DJ and TV presenter Chris Evans, returned for a one-off special with celebrity guests including Rita Ora, rocker Ricky Wilson, and Sir Kenneth Branagh, and performances from acts including Blur and Rudimental.

During the show, host Evans bowed out and enlisted Scottish actor Ewan McGregor to interview fellow Hollywood star Amanda Seyfried, while other guests included British funnyman Stephen Merchant, Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton and Olympic swimmer Tom Daley. Black Grape rocker Shaun Ryder, whose expletive-ridden appearances on the original show prompted TV bosses to stop the series being broadcast live, made a comeback, and walked on the set with tape over his mouth.

The programme originally ran from 1996 to 2000. After Evans left the show, the sixth and final series of TFI Friday was hosted by guests presenters including Sir Elton John and the Spice Girls.

Liam Gallagher Makes First Live Appearance Since Announcing The End Of Beady Eye

He appeared with The Who Band in London alongside Eddie Vedder, Ricky Wilson and Wilko Johnson

Liam Gallagher has made his first live appearance since announcing the split of Beady Eye.

Gallagher appeared at London's Shepherd's Bush Empire earlier this evening (November 11) as part of the The Who Hits 50 tribute night in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust, singing The Who's 'My Generation'. Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder also appeared at the event, which saw an all star cast singing songs by The Who of their chosing. Vedder sang 'Naked Eye', 'Won't Get Fooled Again' and lead all the performers - Gallagher not included - in an encore of 'Listening To You'.

Other artists to perform with the house band included Wilko Johnson, Kaiser Chiefs' Ricky Wilson, Geddy Lee of Rush, The Strypes, Tom Odell, Amy Macdonald, Andy Burrows and Rizzle Kicks. Ricky Wilson was joined by Phil Daniels, the star of the 1979 film Quadrophenia for 'Bell Boy', which was originally released in 1973.

The Who Band featured Simon Townshend, Pino Palladino, Billy Nicholls, Frank Simes, Loren Gold, John Coury and drummer Zak Starkey, who played with Liam Gallagher in Oasis. At the beginning of the evening Daltrey explained that his bandmate Pete Townshend was not present as he was "at home looking after the dogs. I think he'd rather do anything than hear his songs played back to him! He doesn't like playing them himself!"

Roger Daltrey also performed two of his own songs with the band, stepping in to sing 'Substitute' when the song's guest vocalist for the night - Manic Street Preachers' James Dean Bradfield - fell ill. Daltrey finished the night with 'Young Man Blues'.

'The Kids Are Alright' was performed by Wilko Johnson and The Strypes, while Def Leppard's Joe Elliott sang 'Love Reign O'er Me' and Rush's Geddy Lee headed up 'The Seeker', flying in especially for the performance from Canada. Scroll down for a full list of performers and the songs they played.

The evening also featured video tributes to The Who and Teenage Cancer Trust from Paul McCartney and Iggy Pop as well as performances from comedians Johnny Vegas and Rich Hall, and an emotional short film about the work of the charity by Shane Meadows. The evening was compered by BBC Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans.

The evening's setlist was:

'Can't Explain' - Andy Burrows
'The Kids Are Alright' - Wilko Johnson + The Strypes
