Noel Gallagher Teams Up With Hozier, Florence Welch, Spandau Ballet And More For Charity Single

Hozier has teamed up with Noel Gallagher for a charity single with a difference, thanks to a Dublin radio DJ.

Greg McQuaid, who hosts a popular breakfast show in San Francisco, convinced a host of celebs to lend their talents to raise money for a good cause.

Greg and his team at KFOG FM in California wrote a quirky song entitled Boob Spelt Backwards Is Boob' to raise money for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, which funds research projects worldwide.

The title came from his co-host Mike Nelson's eight-year-old son.

The project began last January.

Every time a big name came through the studio, Irish Greg as he's known to listeners asked them to take part in the #Boob- project.

Despite having no melody or lyrics, the team aimed to have the song for sale by October to mark global breast cancer awareness month.

Florence And The Machine's Florence Welch was also keen to lend a hand.

Hozier and Gallagher contributed, as did 1980s legends Spandau Ballet.

"Getting Hozier was really huge. When you have one of the biggest artists on the planet involved, convincing others to contribute becomes a lot easier," Greg told the Herald.

"We recorded his part back in April. He didn't have time to come by the radio station so we recorded him at the Masonic where he was playing three sold-out shows.

"It was cute because his tour manager and road crew were all walking around backstage singing the chorus as we were trying to record it."

The song and video will be available on www.kfog.com/boobproject or it can be downloaded from iTunes. It is due to be released on Thursday.

Oasis Tip From Spandau Ballet

Comeback heroes Spandau Ballet have some advice for Noel and Liam Gallagher... have a punch-up.

Gary Kemp told us at the aftershow bash for their show in Dublin, their first since 1990: "Oasis need to learn from us. No one has had more fights than us. Going to the High Court for six weeks was hell. Not speaking for 19 years, I can hardly believe we've made it on stage tonight. I'm so proud. I can't believe we wasted all these years."

His bandmate Steve Norman, who teamed up with Tony Hadley and John Keeble to sue Gary for song-writing royalties and lost, said: "Oasis need to have a punch-up, take each other to court if that's what it takes to get it out of their system. But they are brothers like us and they love each other. Life's too short to hold a grudge. I was like a pig in s**t tonight - that's how happy I was."

Still, their gig nearly never happened at all. Steve, John and the tour keyboard player gatecrashed a beer festival and had one too many when security waded in.

Steve told us: "They warned us to stop dancing on the tables or we'd get chucked out. I didn't want to get in trouble before our comeback gig. Can you imagine what'd happen if I didn't make the first night?" True, so true.

Spandau Ballet Can Empathise With Warring Oasis Siblings

"Gary and I were in a similar situation where the pressure of the band came down on us all.

It was left to the brothers to sort things out. For a good 10 years with Spandau Ballet we were the pressure cooker and it was bound to explode now and again."

Spandau Ballet star Martin Kemp can empathise with warring Oasis siblings Liam and Noel Gallagher after years of feuding with his brother/bandmate Gary.

Spandau Ballet Want To Challenge Oasis To A Drinking Contest

The recently reformed band love partying on the road and believe they could easily beat Noel and Liam Gallagher - who are also famed for their wild behaviour - in any alcohol-fuelled challenge.

Drummer John Keeble said: "We can take on Oasis. They are nice boys, pussycats. We're real rock 'n' roll."

Bassist Martin Kemp added: "The longest stretch I've had is four days of no sleep, just being on the road partying. It goes with being in a great band and I've told my wife that. Let's be real, it'll be like we're 18 again."

The 'Gold' hitmakers have also revealed they insist on travelling with tequila on their tour bus.

Singer Tony Hadley said: "Everywhere we go we take a massive case of tequila we've called Slammer 1. It's been with Spandau since day one."

Guitarist Gary Kemp added to Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "We were in Montreal with the Beastie Boys. They heard we were hardcore so invited us for a drinking session on Jack Daniels. We kept going until one of them puked up, screaming for his mother.

"Another time, the night before we recorded for Band Aid, we had a drink-off with Duran Duran. Steve Norman was so plastered he had to be carried off in a stretcher."

Meanwhile, Tony has revealed he has been checking the band's lyrics on the internet ahead of their comeback shows in October.

He said: "I'm OK with classics like 'Gold' but for some songs I ask my wife to Google the lyrics. If I forget some on our new tour, I'll point the mic at the audience for our fans to sing. I'm sure they'll give me a ticking off if I forget though."
