Moving Portraits Of Liam Gallagher To Be Shown At Free London Exhibition

The three-minute HD video portraits, 16ft tall, will be projected onto the Royal Albert Hall's gallery walls.

"Moving portraits" of artists including Liam Gallagher and Miles Kane are to be shown at a free exhibition in London later this week (June).

Face To Face: The Moving Portrait will also feature video portraits of The Maccabees, Azealia Banks and Wretch 32, among others. The exhibition's free open evening takes place from 6pm-9pm this Sunday, June 16 at London's Royal Albert Hall.

During the exhibition, the three-minute HD video portraits - which are 16ft in height - will be projected onto the Royal Albert Hall's gallery walls. According to the exhibition blurb, "this enables the viewer to study each subject up close and personal, providing them with an intimacy into the character of each artist that they have never been seen before".

Face To Face: The Moving Portrait is the work of Tom Oxley, who has created several new works especially for the Royal Albert Hall exhibition, including portraits of Queens Of The Stone Age, Haim and MS MR.

Further information about the exhibition is available on the Royal Albert Hall website.

Noel Gallagher Wins 'Outstanding Song Collection' Award At Ivor Novellos

Emeli Sande and Calvin Harris also among those to take home gongs.

Noel Gallagher, The Maccabees and Alt-J have picked up major awards at this year's Ivor Novellos in London.

Gallagher collected the award for Outstanding Song Collection, which was presented to him by Kinks singer Ray Davies, and thanked "my publishers, who I've only just met after 20 years – Sony, apparently," to guffaws of laughter from the industry audience. He dedicated the award to his wife, who, he said, once told him she'd never seen him write any songs. "This is proof that I do," he said.

Asked on the red carpet why he wanted to attend the ceremony earlier, Gallagher had replied: "Because they don't let clowns like One Direction in, so it must be a good one."

The Maccabees, meanwhile, won Best Contemporary Song for 'Pelican', which was presented to them by Manic Street Preachers frontman James Dean Bradfield. "It's a nice way to close the last record, coming to this and winning the award," said the band's Rupert Jarvis afterwards. "We're actually in the process of writing the next record, so this is a nice way to take a day off." Asked what the band would do with their five awards, frontman Orlando Weeks told NME they intend to Sellotape them all together to make "a totem pole of Ivors for our studio". The band beat Plan B's 'Ill Manors' and Alt-J's 'Fitzpleasure' to the award.

Alt-J won the Album Award for 'An Awesome Wave', which was presented to the band – minus absent singer Joe Newman – by Lily Allen. Speaking afterwards, they said they were celebrating the album's second win (after the Mercury Prize) by dubbing the achievement "El double-o". "We expected the album to be a cult thing that some blogs might pick up on, so to be recognised with an award like this is incredible," said the band's Gus Unger-Hamilton. With a gig at Brixton Academy to play tonight, the band said they'd be remaining teetotal for the rest of the ceremony. Asked how they'd celebrate, Thom Green said, "Jelly and ice cream." The other nominees were Ben Howard's 'Every Kingdom' and Lianne La Havas' 'Is Your Love Big Enough'.

Other big winners included the ubiquitous Emeli Sande, who picked up the prizes for Most Performed Work and Best Song Musically And Lyrically. Calvin Harris picked up the award for Songwriter Of The Year, who said in his acceptance speech that he had a vivid dream last night that he was heckled by Brian Enough. He also said, "Like my lyrics, I'm going to keep this speech brief and repetitive". He went on to describe the award as "the greatest achievement of my entire life".

The industry-focused awards, hosted by radio DJ Paul Gambaccini and now in their 58th year, are currently taking place at the Grosvenor House Hotel.

Other guests include Chris Martin, who presented International Achievement award to Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale. The pair jokingly argued onstage about which of them has the most beautiful wife.

Liam Gallagher And Miles Kane Feature In New Portrait Exhibition

Liam Gallagher, Miles Kane and The Maccabees are just some of the artists that feature in a groundbreaking new "video portrait" exhibition in London.

Face to Face: The Moving Portrait is the debut solo exhibition by acclaimed music photographer Tom Oxley, and features unique moving portraits projected larger than life onto the gallery's walls. Each portrait is accompanied by a music track of the subject's choice. Other personalities featured include Azealia Banks, Professor Green, Rizzle Kicks and Mark Ronson.

"The idea behind this project is to combine both the media of photography and video, and push them forward together," says Oxley. "I really want people to stop and think, then instantly connect with what is in front of them. This allows the viewer to stand back and truly take notice of what they are seeing, where subtle movements from the subject create a striking visual impact"

The exhibition opens on October 19 at the Londonewcastle Project Space in East London and runs until 28 October 2012. Admission is free. For more information, see londonewcastle.com.

The Maccabees Love Noel Gallagher

The Maccabees want it known that they are huge fans of Noel Gallagher.

Yesterday, guitarist Felix White, 26, told me he wasn’t that keen on Britpop-era bands and he said some pretty controversial things about them.

But I’m happy to report that the 44-year-old former Oasis axeman and now solo BRIT- nominated superstar wasn’t who Felix meant at all. Perish the thought.

In fact, they’re playing together at this month’s NME Awards. Bromance cuddles all round.

The Maccabees Blast Noel Gallagher

Hot rockers The Maccabees have hit out at Noel Gallagher for being a big gob.

The London lads, who hit No4 last month with latest album Given To The Wild, find singers who shoot their mouth off boring.

In a thinly-disguised attack on Noel, 44, guitarist Felix White told me: “There’s an attitude from Britpop-era bands that you have to say intentionally controversial things. It’s as if to be in a band they think you should be as arrogant as possible by having an opinion on everything.

“I don’t think that’s right as most people don’t often have firm opinions, whether about music or life.”

While The Maccabees are steadily rising to the top, they have no interest in fame.

Felix, 26, continued: “We’re honest about our insecurities and I think that’s more interesting than shooting your mouth off all the time. That ties in with the idea of wanting to be a celebrity.

“There’ve been enough TV shows depicting the soul-destroying reality of what it’s like to be a celebrity. Who’d want that?”

Felix’s band may be dodging celeb status but they’ve become big enough to headline London’s Alexandra Palace on June 8.

New single Feel To Follow comes first on March 12.

Felix laughed: “Headlining arenas is a huge step.

“We’ll make that show an event but I don’t think we’ll be challenging Muse by suddenly getting a load of sci-fi special effects on stage.”

Speaking about a fourth album, Felix revealed: “I’ve said to the boys that our next record should be a double album but they told me to shut up as we’ve only just finished this one.”
