Liam Gallagher On Manchester City, Pep Guardiola And Joe Hart

Liam Gallagher insists Pep Guardiola cannot afford another trophyless season at Manchester City.

The Spaniard enjoyed hugely successful spells at Barcelona and Bayern Munich but had had a tricky first season at the Etihad.

City ended the Premier League campaign 15 points adrift of leaders Chelsea while they lost to Monaco in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Guardiola has already splashed the cash on Bernardo Silva and Ederson with Juventus full-back Dani Alves expected to join them.

And former Oasis frontman believes he can have no excuse if City fall adrift again next term.

"It is absolutely necessary to win the title next season, we cannot leave it to Chelsea again," he told French football magazine So Foot.

"If we [Manchester City] don't win anything then he [Pep Guardiola] won't be able to stay."

City finished above rivals United last term, but Gallagher doesn't think that is enough.

"We have gone beyond that stage. We have to win the title and we must do well in the Champions League," he added.

Gallagher was also critical about Guardiola’s treatment of England No.1 Joe Hart.

The 30-year-old goalkeeper was exiled on loan to Serie A side Torino last year and is understood to be up for sale.

"Pep made a mistake in getting rid of Joe Hart so soon. He shot himself in the foot," Gallagher said.

"He should have kept him for another season, especially with Kompany's injury. Without them two, there was a lack of leadership in defence."

Liam Gallagher On His Favourite Memories Of Maine Road

Liam Gallagher has told Vincent Kompany to win the treble with Manchester City next season in an entertaining interview.

Taking questions from readers and celebrities in a Guardian interview , Gallagher was asked about City's former ground by Kompany.

"I’ve called the Etihad Stadium home for the last nine years," it began, "but you were brought up going to Maine Road to watch City. What are your favourite memories of our old ground?"

The former Oasis star couldn't respond without referring to his views on Kompany and Pep Guardiola's team .

"Yes Vincent, first things first: good to have you back, you’ve been massively missed," he said.

"My Maine Road memories – and there are quite a few – but it’s gotta be when City battered United 5-1 and when Oasis played two gigs there in the 90s.

"To play at the ground of the football club you’ve supported all your life is without doubt the icing on the cake.

"It’s downhill after that – even Knebworth doesn’t come close. Anyway, stay cool, stay fit, enjoy your summer and let’s go win the treble next season."

Gallagher also replied to a reader who asked if he often referred to City as 'the Citizens', a term apparently often used when the team are broadcast on Fox in the United States.

He said: "No. Never. It’s: 'Come on, chaps, let’s go and watch the ******* mighty Blues.'"

Noel Gallagher On His Brother Liam And The Break Up Of Beady Eye

Noel Gallagher has said that his brother Liam is "making a fucking mess" of his personal life at the moment, but backed him to be able to get back to his best.

The last twelve months have proven tumultuous for Liam with the Beady Eye split and a long-running court case in New York over financial support for a baby he fathered while married to ex-wife Nicole Appleton.

Speaking to NME in the cover feature of this week's issue, which is on newsstands now and available digitally, his older brother Noel acknowledges things are not going well for Liam at the moment.

"He's making a fucking mess of things at the moment, but we've all been there," he says. "I've been there. Something like that can be a great thing because you get to the bottom and you cleanse yourself of a lot of fucking shit baggage and you start again. I’m the kind of person that says 'Fuck it, take it' and I'll start again. And that would be my advice to him."

Asked to pinpoint what went wrong for Beady Eye, who separated in October 2014 after releasing two albums, Noel identifies a key issue with the band's make up. "They’re a fucking great band but they're not great songwriters. They needed one great song. Not just a hit single, a great fucking tune. But I don’t think he’ll be out of the game forever."

The last time Noel saw Liam was at the Etihad Stadium on May 11 last year, the day Manchester City won the Premier League. "I was in the directors box, obviously, and he was outside selling burgers, and one of the directors asked if I wanted to go on the pitch with the team, and I was like, 'Fucking yeah' so I went on the pitch and in the tunnel before I said to [club captain] Vincent Kompany 'Give us your armband' and he gave me it, so I was wearing it in the bar afterwards, and I was sitting there talking to somebody, and someone came up behind me and tried to take the armband off and I was like, 'Fucking get off of it' and it was Liam. And he was like, 'Fucking hell man you knobhead, you shouldn’t have that, I should fucking have that'. And that's how it started. And I was like, 'Oh yeah, alright, and how are you?' Every time I see him he is still being a bit of a fucking cheeky cunt. And he’s still putting out the persona of the angry barking dog."

Meanwhile, Ed Sheeran has responded to Noel's remarks that he couldn't live in a world where Ed Sheeran headlines Wembley, stating "I can live in it, it's really enjoyable".

Earlier this week Gallagher revealed his new single 'Ballad Of The Mighty I' and reiterated his desire to play Glastonbury in June, suggesting that he might take his guitar and play regardless of whether he is officially booked for the festival or not.

Gallagher's upcoming record 'Chasing Yesterday' will be his second solo studio album and features his new single 'In The Heat Of The Moment'.

Noel Gallagher: Title Win Shows Manchester City's Success Is Not 'A Flash In The Pan'

The former Oasis guitarist was in the stands as Samir Nasri and Vincent Kompany netted to seal a second league crown in three years

Noel Gallagher has hailed Manchester City's second Premier League title in three years.

Goals from Samir Nasri and Vincent Kompany saw City sweep West Ham aside and seal the league crown.

The former Oasis guitarist was in the stands and has insisted the win proves they are no one hit wonders.

"This shows we're not a flash in a pan, like Blackburn that season and Leeds in the old Division One.

"Samir Nasri's goal was great, this was great and we ran the clock down.

"And I've got Vincent Kompany's captain's armband - I saw him in the tunnel and blagged it off him!"

Former Smiths man Johnny Marr was also on hand and found himself in the thick of the Etihad celebrations.

"It appears that I'm on the pitch with Man City getting the Premier League champions cup and being hugged by Sergio Aguero. So... what's up?," he tweeted.

Noel Gallagher Joins The Party As Manchester City Win The League Cup

Manchester City's stars gave supporters a behind the scenes glimpse of the what the euphoric Wembley dressing room looked like following the Capital One Cup triumph before kicking off the celebrations with Noel Gallagher.

The former Oasis star posed for a photo with City frontman Sergio Aguero on Sunday night - and the Argentine was delighted to be pictured with one of the club's most famous fans.

Posting the picture on Twitter, Aguero tweeted: 'With Noel Gallagher!!'

Aguero's team-mate and countryman Pablo Zabaleta also posed for a snap with the High Flying Birds singer. The Argentinean described Gallagher as a 'top man' in his tweet.

Manuel Pellegrini's side came from behind to beat Sunderland 3-1 on Sunday to clinch the first silverware of the season.

Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri notched twice within two minutes to turn the final on its head after Fabio Borini's early strike.

Jesus Navas added gloss to the win as stoppage time approached, and City's players were understandably jubilant once Martin Atkinson blew for full-time.

Victorious skipper Vincent Kompany took to Twitter to post a group picture of the squad alongside the trophy.

But he wasn't the only one.

Sergio Aguero featured in his first game since January and played a part in the second goal before being hooked by the manager. He had a proud thumb up next to the silverware.

Alvaro Negredo and Aleksandar Kolarov also tweeted snaps of themselves clutching hold of the trophy.

The togetherness was there for all to see, with players not picked or injured looking as pleased as those who were handed a starring role.

Pellegrini will need that spirit in the coming weeks.

City have ground to make up in the Premier League and need to turnaround a two-goal deficit away at Barcelona in the last-16 of the Champions League if they want to progress in Europe.

Umbro 'Show Your City' - Noel Gallagher And Vincent Kompany Show Off New Kits

Back in May, Umbro and Manchester City asked fans of the club to come up with ideas on how they would reveal the club's new shirts.

We wanted the interesting, the unusual, the outlandish -- and we got them! Picking our favourites from all the ideas entered, we then sent a film crew to make those ideas a reality. Following City fan Kevin Cummins getting his wish to picture Noel Gallagher and Vincent Kompany together, this video shows some of the other great ideas that Umbro and City have helped to bring to life.

Climbing mountains, recreating classic MCFC moments and shooting the new Manchester City home shirt into space via a balloon -- these are certainly some of the more unusual ways in which a football shirt has been unveiled!

Watch a short video of the Manchester City squad traing to Oasis' Definitely Maybe album here.

Noel Gallagher's Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere (Vol.2) Part Sixty Nine

From Noel Gallagher's 'Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere' tour diary.

Comrades . . . this will be a long one.

So, the last time we spoke was when? 2 weeks ago? Must have been? Was it? Hang on . . . let me check . . . that's right . . . it was the night before the festival in Belgium. OK . . . right I'll get my thinking cap on and give you the lo-down (as best I can anyway!).

So . . . I remember the festival being quite a big one. Massive crowd. Big guns headlining. Think it was them Red Hot Chilli Peppers on my night (yes it was!). The show itself was OK. Not bad. It certainly broke the run of amazing shows that's for sure. The best thing about it was I was introduced onstage by Vincent Kompany, Manchester City's captain. He's from Brussels see? And me and him were going to do the launch of the new Manchester City kits for next season. Both of these occurrences were a true honour. Vinnie's a top boy. Might actually be the coolest lad on the planet. We hung out after the show and watched the Euro Championship final. Happy days!!

The next day I had to be up early to do the football kit thing. Hadn't actually gone to bed 'till 4am so I wasn't feeling (or looking!) the best. Vinnie on the other hand had managed an early night and turned up looking like the super-cool, well oiled athlete he is. I on the other hand stunk of cig's and alcohol looking every bit like the 45yr old father of 3 that I am. Not good. Not good at all. In all my time in this game that might have been the single most difficult thing I've ever had to do.

At one point I think I was sweating pure alcohol. Imagine doing that while one of your heroes looks down on you and asks if you're alright, while a photographer snaps away asking you if "you could just get a bit closer?" Did it though and the kit looks the bollocks.

So, after that I remember we flew to Montreux in Switzerland for a show at the "Montreux Jazz Festival"!! That's right, you heard . . . "the Montreux JAZZ Festival". Not sure what I was doing there but a gig's a gig and what a gig!! A right good laugh and all. And I got presented (on stage which was a bit weird) with a very expensive watch by the founder of the festival Mr. Claude Nobs (pronounced CLOUD NEBZ). Worth €3000!! Or so he informed the audience anyway. Thanks very much Mr.Nobs . . . just what I've always wanted . . . my very own jazz watch!!

After that we drove overnight to Milan. I love Milan and Italy in general. Weather was mad hot. Must've been nearly 100 onstage!! Not as hot as Coachella but proper sizzling all the same. Show was alright. Nothing more, nothing less. I remember being taken out for dinner after to some swanky footballery type gaff. Very nice it was too . . . Beckham used to go there I'm told.

So . . . after that would have been T In the Park? Yes, I think so!! Horrific weather. Dark black clouds. Torrential rain, rain, rain. Mud every-fucking-where. Horrible . . . and that was just BACKSTAGE!!! Lord only knows what it was like out front? Still (and this is truly amazing) it never spoiled the atmosphere. The crowd up there are something else. Unbelievable behaviour. Well done!

We had a great show bar a couple of hic-ups here and there but we smashed it!! We were on before the Stone Roses. It was great to see them AND to see them enjoying themselves. A great night all round.

After that we flew to Birmingham to do a little acoustic gig for that radio station Kerrang!! That's right, you heard. A heavy metal radio station. Don't ask . . . I didn't. It was good though.

So . . . after that we flew here to the south of France. Fucking plane was full of young people (off on their holidays one would imagine). Giggling girls and boys with sideways haircuts and girls jeans on . . . that's what it looked like to me anyway.

I think that's about it. Got a festival tonight. A big one . . . it must be big 'cause the mighty Franz Ferdinand are headlining!! What was that?? Of course they're still going!!!!

ONWARDS.

GD.

Noel Gallagher On The New Manchester City Kits

Following their first Premier League title win, Manchester City fan Noel Gallagher has taken the stage with Blues captain Vincent Kompany to reveal the club’s new kits.

The Burnage-born rock legend is pictured with captain Vincent Kompany wearing the new Manchester City home and away shirts which the team will wear during the 2012/13 season.

Earlier this season, Manchester-based sportswear company Umbro and City invited fans to come up with ideas to launch the Blues’ new kits.

Over the coming weeks, a series of ‘Show Your City’ fan launches will be released; starting with shots captured by music photographer and City fan Kevin Cummins.

Cummins – famous for his images of iconic Manchester bands such as Joy Division, The Smiths and The Stone Roses – captured the shots of Gallagher and Kompany in Belgium.

Kompany surprised gig goers at the Rock Werchter music festival in his native Belgium by introducing Gallagher prior to his performance. The 80,000 strong crowd cheered as the Belgian centreback embraced the musician on the main stage before his set.

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany said: “I always look forward to returning to Belgium but this really was a special occasion and a moment to savour. Noel is obviously a huge star so I was happy to introduce him in front of 80,000 fans in my home country.”

Noel Gallagher said: “The new home kit is pure class. It might be the best one we’ve had in a decade. As modern and radical as it is though, it’s nice to see Umbro keeping our heritage alive in the new away kit. The best dressed defending champions of all time? No doubt.”

The Home shirt retains City’s iconic sky blue colour and also incorporates black detailing and trim which takes influence from the 1969 FA Cup and 1970 League Cup winning kits.

The new Away shirt sees a return to the classic maroon colour worn by the FA Cup winning teams of 1934 and 1956, also tailored by Umbro.

Both kits are available to pre-order from 6 July at The City Store. The away kit is available on general sale from 14 July and the home kit on 26 July.

Noel Gallagher's In Good Kompany

Noel Gallagher is keeping Robin van Persie’s future shirt nice and warm.

The singer helped launch Man City’s new 2012/13 strip alongside skipper Vincent Kompany as part of the Umbro Show Your City campaign.

The big Belgian returned the favour by introducing Noel on stage to a crowd of 80,000 at the Rock Werchter festival in his home country last weekend.

Vincent walked on stage in his City training top and gave Noel a hug after announcing the singer’s arrival.

The new shirt is launched officially tomorrow.

Maybe just in time for Van Persie’s big move.
