Liam Gallagher On Yoko Ono

Liam Gallagher has spoken to the NME Gold about Yoko Ono, he said "She was nice, really nice to me".

He said "I went to the Dakota once, I was in a hotel, and one of my mates went 'You should try and meet Yoko,' It was when (my son) Lennon was born or a couple of months after, I went, 'nah, I'm not into all that bollocks, meeting people.' And he's like, 'Just let me make a call.' So he does it, and then he goes 'You'll never guess what's happened. They've just got back and said do you want a morning meeting or an evening meeting?' I was sat at the bar, going 'Leave it out.' So for a joke I said, I'll have a morning meeting. Next morning. I'm having breakfast and he's like 'We've got to go, it's on.' We were at a hotel down the road, so I had a quick little quick drink to calm my nerves, walked up the roadand the geezer's going 'Can I help you, sir?' and I went. 'yeah it's Mr Gallagher.' So we go through the forecourt into this little lift, one of those old wind-up lifts".

He added "We go to her floor - I won't say what floor she's on - press the number, and she opened the door. She's like 'D'you want a cup of tea?' and we start talking. She was nice, really nice to me. On one of her banners it says "While I've been hibernating I've been gathering wings'. I've been trying to get that in a song for ages. I could never get it in, but I got it on 'I've All I need' on the new album. Got it in, man. After all these years."

How Yoko Ono Inspired Liam Gallagher's 'I've All I Need'

Liam Gallagher has told Radio X's Chris Moyles how a meeting with the icon influenced the lyrics on his I've All I Need track.

Liam Gallagher has revealed how a meeting with Yoko Ono 18 years ago inspired the lyrics on his new album.

In an interview with Radio X's Chris Moyles, the former Oasis frontman unveiled a world exclusive first play of I've All I Need, which is the last track on his debut record.

Talking about the track, he told Moyles: "I can tell you an interesting fact. There's a line in there that says 'I hibernate and sing/While gathering my wings'.

"I was over in New York once, and I got a call saying, 'Yoko wants to meet you,' and I'd just called my kid Lennon," recalled the Oasis man.

"We go in there. In the kitchen she invites me in, makes me a cup of tea and she's got this massive banner around the kitchen and I said, 'What does that mean?'

"She goes, 'Ah John asked the same question when we went to Japan to meet the parents.' Anyway it says, While i've been hibernating I've been gathering my wings. And it was when he'd stopped making music. So I thought, 'Write that down.'"

The rocker added: "Anyway, so years go by and I've been trying to get that into a song and could never get it in. And then it happened on that."

Yoko Ono has thanked Liam Gallagher for his support he has given to the people of Japan, following the devastating Tsunami that hit the country last month.

Yoko Tweeted earlier today today: 'Thank you, Liam. It's nice to know that you are there with us. Love, yoko http://bit.ly/ATUjap @Beady_Eye AcrossTheUniverse £→BritRed+'.

She included a link to download Beady Eye's cover of The Beatle's 'Across The Universe', which they performed live during Sunday Night's Japan Disaster Benefit at the Brixton Academy in London.

The concert also featured The Coral, Graham Coxon, Paul Weller, Kelly Jones, Primal Scream and Richard Ashcroft. Beady Eye closed the show with their first ever performance of 'Across The Universe'.

The day before the charity event, during an 8 hour session, Beady Eye went into RAK studios to record and mix their version of the song from The Beatles' 'Let It Be' album.

Beady Eye have made the track available for a limited period to download through their website.

You can download the single here.

All proceeds from the sale of the track after VAT, credit card fees and mcps (62p) will go directly toward the British Red Cross Japan Tsunami Appeal.

Liam Gallagher 'Overawed' When He Met Yoko Ono

Liam Gallagher and Yoko Ono did not speak much when they met recently.

The Oasis rocker visited the widow of his hero John Lennon at her New York home, but Yoko admits they were so overawed they didn't engage in much conversation.

She said: "Our meeting was really very interesting. We didn't chat so much though. Instead we were just looking out of the window, because my apartment has beautiful views of the park."

Yoko, 76, also revealed she never leaves the house without wearing a badge carrying the slogan 'Imagine Peace'.

She said; "My badge today says 'Imagine Peace' in Arabic. I have 'Imagine Peace' on badges in 24 different languages and I just draw one out. It is very interesting because every region has a need for peace."

It was previously claimed that Liam - who is married to former All Saints star Nicole Appleton - was planning to set up home in the Dakota building where Lennon was shot dead outside of in 1980 and where Yoko still lives.

A source said: "Liam has always been fascinated with everything about John Lennon and has long fantasised about having an apartment in the Dakota building like he did.

"He loves that part of New York and feels he'd be very much at home there - he would feel close to Lennon's spirit."

Previously speaking about his meeting with Yoko, Liam insisted he felt inspired and "couldn't stop writing songs" afterwards.

Oasis' latest album, 'Dig Out Your Soul', features the Liam-penned track 'I'm Outta Time' which is a tribute to Lennon and features a snippet of him talking at the end.
