Noel Gallagher Says Liam Needs Beady Eye Wake-Up Call

Noel Gallagher says someone needs to "waft" his brother Liam with a "wet towel" if he thinks he can eclipse Oasis' success.

The 'Death of You and Me' singer has scoffed at his estranged sibling's boasts his new band, Beady Eye, could become bigger than the super-group they were in together.

When asked what he felt about Liam's comments his new band will be more successful than Oasis, Noel told Q magazine: "Someone needs to lie Liam down and waft him with a wet towel."

The 44-year-old guitarist quit Oasis in August 2009 following a huge backstage fight with Liam, who Noel claims tried to take his "face off" with a guitar during the bust-up.

Despite the turbulent atmosphere in his former band, Noel admits he does "miss" certain things about the group, and says he didn't find it easy choosing which musicians to work with on his new project Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds.

The musician - who is releasing his solo album of the same name in October - explained: "I had two options: you either get a load of kids in, and then you end up looking like Bryan Ferry. Or you don't and you have mates - but then, I don't know many 44-year-olds that aren't bald. But it fell into place nicely. It's the noble thing to do, bands are for the young."

Noel Gallagher Almost Abandoned New Album

Noel Gallagher almost quit recording his upcoming experimental album after his collaborators forced him to perform endless re-takes.

The former Oasis frontman headed into the studio with British dance duo Amorphous Androgynous to lay down tracks for a psychedelic record to accompany his debut solo release later this year (11).

He was startled by his collaborators Gaz Cobain and Brian Dougans' attention to detail and their habit of recording the same piece of music numerous times - and they almost came to blows as his temper boiled over.

Gallagher tells Mojo magazine, "Gaz Cobain made me record and record, and when he heard something he liked he would film it. Then his colleague Brian Dougans would go off and cut everything up and use a bass line for one track and a drum loop for another.

"I almost called it off on the first day when Gaz made me play the same guitar line for five hours and 10 minutes... On the 27th take we nearly came to blows."

Robbie Williams Wants To Work With Noel Gallagher

British singer Robbie Williams wants to put his longstanding feud with Noel Gallagher behind him for good, by writing music with the former Oasis star.

The Angels hitmaker and the rocker enjoyed a short-lived friendship in the 1990s, but they later fell out and became embroiled in a public feud, in which Gallagher famously branded Williams "the fat dancer from Take That".

Now the singer has made moves to patch up his fragmented relationship with Gallagher, by posting a video of the star's new solo single on his official blog alongside the words, "I know it's pretty redundant, but I'd love to write with him."

Williams, who has reunited with Take That for the first time in 15 years, had reignited the spat earlier this year (11) by taunting the guitarist during a sold-out run of gigs with his band.

The star bragged about performing a series of eight concerts at London's huge Wembley Stadium, saying, "The Rolling Stones have done two nights here. Oasis did three - Take That are here for eight on the trot... Noel Gallagher can lick my a**e."

Noel Gallagher: These Films Changed My Life

Noel Gallagher has picked the five cinematic experiences that blew his mind, for the current issue of Mojo. In the 16-page MOJO exclusive Will Hodgkinson speaks to the former Oasis songwriter about his return to recording, his new album, the end of his old band, that fateful night in Paris and the essential films, books and music that define the man.

These are the films, and the reason Noel picked them.

THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY (1966)

"There's a great scene when Clint Eastwood's character leaves Tuco (El Wallach), the little guy to die in the desert. Tuco gets a gun and follows him through the desert, picking up his cigar stubs to keep track. It's epic, brilliantly written, the story is great, and they all end up in a graveyard in a three-way shoot off. It looks good as well, Clint Eastwood wears three outfits in the entire film and I'd were them all. I'd save the poncho for Glastonbury".

PULP FICTION (1994)

"There are so many great moments of great dialogue in that film. The sign of great art is what happens afterwards, and this film changed everything. Even the black suit and the black tie look came back in, and before that only waiters wore it. The beginning is the end, but you don't realise at first".

STAR WARS (1977)

"Not the silly edition with the f**king dinosaurs in it, the original. I was ten when this came out, and I still believe that galaxy is going on somewhere, a long, long time ago and far, far away. And even now it looks state of the art. You know it's a big guy from Cornwall in a furry gorilla suit, but it doesn't really matter. It deals with the most basic premise of good vs evil and someone got to rescue the girl, but you've got to admire someone with the vision to invent an entire language. It blew my mind, and I can't wait for it to blow my son's mind. Then I'll be able to say to him "wait until you find out who his Luke Skywalker's Dad is". That will bend his head. Fuck Blade Runner. Blade Runner is Radiohead. Star Wars is Oasis."

THE RUTLES: All YOU NEED IS CASH (1978)

"You can't go on tour without The Rutles. The Beatles story is fantastic because Neil Innes took the piss out of it. It's the British Spinal Tap, and the songs Ouch! I Must Be In Love, Cheese And Onions - are all f**king great".

DOWNFALL (2004)
WATCH THE TRAILER HERE UNABLE TO EMBED

"This is the story of the last days of Hilter, and I love the black nihilism of it all. They're all staying to the bitter end, and it is the end of their world. We've been in the end of relationships, the end of tours, and the end of bands. But they know this is the end of their entire way of life and they're all going to die. They are dead. Best of all is the YouTube parody in which Hitler's going mad because Oasis have split up and he had tickets to the concert."

Noel Gallagher Wrote Third Solo Album

British rocker Noel Gallagher planned to launch his solo career with three new albums - but he abandoned the idea after becoming "sick" of writing new tracks.

The former Oasis guitarist hit a creative peak as he penned new songs following the band's breakup in 2009, and announced earlier this month (Jul11) he is to release two albums - a solo record and a collaboration with British psychedelic duo Amorphous Androgynous.

Now he's revealed he had enough new material to put out a third record, titled The Future Of Martial Arts, but gave up the plan because he was tired of songwriting.

Gallagher tells Q magazine, "Now I'm a free agent I thought I've got all these songs, so I'll make two records - but between you and me I made three, the third was going to be called The Future Of Martial Arts. I had nine great songs but had to split them up. I wanted to do some work with Amorphous Androgynous... so I made the albums concurrently. It was really exciting being that creative, but by the end I was sick of it."

Noel Gallagher Has No Opinion Of Beady Eye

In the current issue of Mojo (on sale now) Noel Gallagher is asked what's his opinion on Beady Eye.

Noel said "If I say it's shit, people will say that I'm only saying that because it's Liam. If I say it's great, people say the same thing. I have no opinion on it. I honestly haven't heard the album but I've seen them on the telly, and fair play to them, man, they're doing it. I hope that when my record comes out people don't compare the two because they're completely different things."

In the 16-page MOJO exclusive Will Hodgkinson speaks to the former Oasis songwriter about his return to recording, his new album, the end of his old band, that fateful plum and the essential films, books and music that define the man.

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, is set to release on October 17 and is his first new studio material since he left Oasis in 2009 after an argument with his brother and bandmate Liam. He is also planning a UK tour after the album's release.

"'The Death Of You And Me' has a windswept feel, with a slightly country influence and a big, stomping chorus," writes NME of the comeback single. The LP was recorded in London and Los Angeles with producer Dave Sardy.

Liam Gallagher Takes Supernanny's Advice

Liam Gallagher takes parenting advice from 'Supernanny' star Jo Frost.

The Beady Eye rocker - who has three children, Molly, 13, Lennon, 11, and 10-year-old Gene - and his wife Nicole Appleton met with the childcare expert when she appeared on Alan Carr's 'Chatty Man' show, and admitted they are big fans of her work.

Jo exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "I was on the 'Alan Carr' show the other day and I met Liam Gallagher and his wife. They were pleasant, very very pleasant. They both said how they love the work that I do in reaching out and helping the public.

"At the end of the day, celebrity or no celebrity - you're a mum and a dad when you go home. You may be an inspiration in the artiste world but to your daughter and your son you're good old mum and dad."

Miles Kane On Touring With Beady Eye And Recording With Noel Gallagher

Taken from an interview with Miles Kane from Gigwise, read the full interview here.

When you’re supporting big acts like Arctic Monkeys and Beady Eye – does that help attract a wider fan base?

Yeah, I think when we did the tour with Beady Eye, six dates in the UK and two in Europe and that was around March time. I think after that my confidence has just been growing, I should thank the boys in the band as they’ve helped me grow so much live. I absolutely love what I do, playing those songs and I love rocking out on stage. When I don’t do it for a night I hate it, I’m just totally so happy at the moment and I just want to continue it. Carry on the steady build that we’re doing.

You worked with Noel Gallagher on the album – how was that?

Well I think that was the press blowing things out of the water. For me, we’d been hanging out for a bit and I was mixing in the final stages of the album and he came down to the studio for a hang out and a coffee. I was going in to do my vocals and he was like can you just write down the words for me? And then he just went in and did it, which was ****ing great. So unreal, me sat at the control desk and I’m telling Noel what to do, just a nice afternoon. That story then got completely changed and people made out like he was all over the album, which wasn’t the case.

Fans Love Noel Gallagher's Debut Solo Single

Fans have reacted in an enormously positive manner to Noel Gallagher's debut single 'The Death Of You And Me', which you can hear by scrolling down to the bottom of the page and clicking.

The track, which is the first to be revealed from the former Oasis guitarist's debut solo album 'Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds', was debuted this morning and has had fans heaping praise on it ever since.

NME.com user Ahmed Salem loved it, saying he believed that Noel had stolen all of brother Liam's thunder with Beady Eye, he wrote: "Better than Beady Eye's entire album. I wouldn't want to be Liam at the moment."

Tom Wells loved it too, he wrote: "The Chief has come back with what is arguably one of his best songs ever!" Chris Kinloch felt the same, he wrote: "Liam just had the smile blown off his face. Beady Eye is now revealed as being totally shit in comparison now. Welcome back Noel."

Will Whitby felt the same, he wrote: "I missed this sound so much! Pure perfection", while Alexandre Duvauchelle wrote on NME's Facebook page Facebook.com/nmemagazine: "Great song! I've been waiting for that for so much time and I'm not disappointed at all! Noel rules." Jade Wong did the same, simply writing: "Love it."

A few users compared the song to Oasis's 2005 single 'The Importance Of Being Idle', but didn't see this as a bad thing.

Jamie Baker wrote of this: "Sounds 'Importance of Being Idley'' which definitely isn't a bad thing as that's one of his best songs!" Jason Murphy agreed, he wrote: "Top notch. Very 'Importance Of Being Idle' if that makes sense. Love the sound and production. Looking forward to the album!"

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, 'The Death Of You And Me' Review

Whichever side of the great Noel / Liam schism you’re on (presuming, of course, you feel compelled to take sides), it’s pretty universally agreed the pair have always done things differently. In one corner, the “shitbag”-tweeting headline generator, who’s dissed his brother and former band from every conceivable angle and in the other, a more, shall we say, reserved sibling who said everything he needed to say in a short press conference and NME interview.

While Liam’s posturing is better documented than the downfall of Murdoch, Noel’s opted for a quieter, humbler, more down-to-earth approach, seeing himself as that guy playing guitar stage left, insisting there’ll be no new music until he’s finished changing nappies - that sort of thing.

So while Beady Eye blazed out of nowhere all bluster and ‘Bring The Light’, Chatty Man chinwags and Man City tie-ins, Noel announces his return through Absolute Radio early on a Monday morning, with a much slower and less in-your-face offering.

A trademark acoustic strum and soft flute flourishes herald in Noel’s falsetto and he’s in fine form, delivering Noel-esque couplets that bounce off each other with rhyming glee but turn somewhat dark as they progress: ”High time, summer in the city / Kids are looking pretty / But itsn’t a pity that the sunshiiine / Is full of black thunder / With thoughts of going under / And is it any wonder why the sea is calling out to me / I seem to spend my whole life / Running from people who will be / The death of you and me / Cos I can feel the storm clouds / Sucking up my soul”.

Gloomy. And it’s at this point we’re mugged by some properly demented strings - a short but psychedelic interlude complemented by several retro brass breakouts later on that gift the whole thing with a captivating sheen. If we were forced to tie it to his previous, ‘The Importance Of Being Idle’ springs to mind.

In the accompanying video we meet Noel at the Last Chance saloon, a subtle allusion to his fears this might not work perhaps, sitting near a gibbering weirdo. However this isn’t New Cross, rather somewhere in the Californian desert, and before long he’s pushing his waitress in the pool, some guy from Red Dead Redemption’s turned up with a marching band to take the waitress away and we’re left with the words “To Be Continued...”.

Noel, no need to worry, we’re hooked. Still think you should be called Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Angry Birds though. As for Liam’s reaction? We’ll have to wait and see.

Water Way For Noel Gallagher To Launch Solo Career

Noel Gallagher plunges a waitress into a swimming pool in the video for his first solo single.

The promo to The Death Of You And Me is set in a dusty, American desert motel.

Noel is seen sitting in a diner booth before throwing the young woman into the water.

She then escapes the drudgery of work by joining a caravan of travelling musicians.

The Death Of You And Me marks Noel's first release in three years.

It's credited to Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds.

And the legendary songwriter explains that the Birds are a loose collective.

He said: "My manager asked me who the High Flying Birds are. They aren't anyone in particular. Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds is me and whoever is around at the time of whatever it is that I'm doing, a loose collective kinda thing"

The track, which features a brass section, echoes later Oasis tracks such as The Importance Of Being Idle.

It's released on August 21.

Album Noel Gallagher's High flying Birds hits shop shelves on October 17.

Oasis bit the dust in 2009 after 18 years.

Noel's brother Liam launched his latest project Beady Eye last year.

Vincent Kompany To Have Guitar Lessons On His Signed Guitar By Noel Gallagher

Vincent Kompany won't strum the Noel Gallagher-signed guitar he got for £6,000 at a charity auction - because he can't.

The Man City star wanted the Gibson because of its links with the Manc.

He says: "I know a lot of people who do play, so I'll invite them around."
