Noel Gallagher Offered Role In Royle Family

Noel Gallagher was invited to make a guest appearance in the Royle Family.

Noel, 44, who wrote and sang the show’s theme Half The World Away, said: “Caroline Aherne and Craig Cash wanted me to be in the Royle Family.

“They were gonna get married and wanted me to come in as a gatecrasher – not myself. I can stare out of windows and look lost.” There’s a bit more to acting than that, mate.

Definitely Maybe United Still Have Edge Over City, Says Noel Gallagher

Roberto Mancini may believe Manchester City are primed for a title challenge after their recent spending spree, but at least one high-profile fan fears they will remain in the shadow of their neighbours at Old Trafford.

Samir Nasri's arrival, hot on the heels of Sergio Aguero, has given City a squad to compete with the best, but Noel Gallagher can see Sir Alex Ferguson's influence at Manchester United once more proving decisive.

Speaking to Manchester's Key 103 radio, the Oasis guitarist said: 'I gotta say, United look strong and the one thing United will always have over us is Ferguson can manage that team across the season and he'll always manage to get the best out of those players.

'I think we've probably got better players than they have, but I think Ferguson will always be able to galvanise that team, no matter what.'

Gallagher singled out unsettled Carlos Tevez, rather than Aguero, as City's best hope of a title breakthrough.

'I'm not sure about Aguero,' he said. 'He might need a few games. He looked like a fish out of water.

'Tevez is going nowhere. He's been for sale since last January. Nobody's suddenly going to find 'oh hang on a minute where's that 50 mil, oh I've just found it in a safe, shall we buy Teves'. No he's not going anywhere.

'I don't want him to go, either, cos he'll do it on the pitch. As much as he says he misses his kids and blah blah blag and Manchester and the weather and all that nonsense, he is incapable of not giving 100% and if he does it on the pitch, I'm not bothered if he thinks his back garden's rubbish.

'I'm not bothered, it doesn't bother me if he misses his kids. If he's doing it on the pitch then he's still one of the greatest players we've got.'

Below is an interview with Liam and Noel Gallagher in Orlando, Florida. The interview was originally broadcast on CDUK on August 24th 2002.

Liam Gallagher Calls A Truce With Brother Noel

Just as the peacekeeping envoy from the UN was being briefed by the Home Office, peace has suddenly broken out in Burnage, Manchester.

Well, Henley and Maida Vale to be precise - the homes of the warring Gallagher brothers.

Liam has dropped his High Court writ against brother Noel after the older sibling offered an olive branch during a webchat for the launch of his new single The Death Of You And Me.

Beady Eye frontman Liam heard Noel admit his brother's doctor's note for Oasis's cancelled V Festival gig at Chelmsford in 2009 DID exist - and Liam decided it was time to move on.

Speaking on a recorded fan chat with pal Matt Morgan, Noel said: "For the record, it is a fact that he was diagnosed with laryngitis and it is a fact that he had a doctor's note to prove it. I'd just like to say that if he gets offended by my opinions on such things then I apologise.

"It's all getting a little silly and out of hand and it's not very cool."

That was enough for Liam and the word was sent to his legal firm to get in touch with Noel's lawyers to put an end to the whole ugly mess.

And about time too.

A source added: "Liam had spoken to his mum Peggy and she was upset by the whole episode.

"That was playing on his mind then he had a moment of realisation that Noel wasn't being vindictive - he was just being cheeky. It was an anger that had built up over two years because he was so angry Oasis was over.

"In the cold light of day he realised his brother was actually being quite calm about it all, and decided a legal battle was a bad idea. Hopefully that will draw a line under it all and everyone can move on."

Noel also paid Liam a compliment on radio veteran Steve Lamacq's show on BBC 6 Music on Monday night.

Talking about going on tour as a solo artist, Noel said: "I couldn't do Supersonic or Cigarettes and Alcohol or Lyla, that is a shame.

"I wouldn't attempt to do the more rock Oasis songs as Liam has such a great rock voice.

"That is a shame, that those songs will not be heard for the foreseeable future anyway. I think it's sad as they're great stadium anthems.

"We've all got to move on. I might do a jazz fusion version of them further down the line."

Noel Gallagher Says Brother Liam Had A Great Rock Voice

Noel Gallagher says Chris Martin and his band's headline slot at this year's Glastonbury was one of their best.

Speaking to 6 Music's Steve Lamacq, he said: "I got half way through it and said to the missus, 'They are having the gig of their lives here'.

"It was pretty spectacular and the way they lit up the pyramid on the Pyramid Stage, that means no one else can ever do it now."

Noel's comments about Jay-Z and Glastonbury a few years back meant some assumed he was no longer a fan of the festival but nothing could be further from the truth:

"Glastonbury is a one off, the rest of the festivals with all the best will in the world are just big gigs in fields," according to Noel.

"Glastonbury is a festival in the truest sense, the music is secondary to your festival experience, you could go there for 3 days and not see one single band and have a great time."

Noel and his High Flying Birds are on tour this October, having just added three extra dates. Unlike Beady Eye, he will be playing Oasis songs:

"There's only 10 tracks on the album. That's only 42 minutes, so I don't have enough material to not do Oasis songs," he explained.

"I don't really see them as Oasis songs now, I wrote those songs myself, they are my songs."

However, there are a number of Oasis tracks that you won't be hearing at his solo gigs:

"I couldn't do Supersonic, Rock n Roll star or Cigarettes and Alcohol or Champagne Supernova or Lyla.

Noel continued: "The more rock ones I would never attempt to do because Liam had such a great rock voice, that is a shame those songs will never be heard for the foreseeable future.

"I think it's sad because they were great stadium anthems but we've all got to move on, I might do a jazz fusion version of them."

Noel also told Lammo plenty of offers were on the table after Oasis split up for Noel to write his autobiography:

"I went for a few meetings with people out of politeness who were offering me silly amounts of money," he explained.

"I didn't want to write about my life in Oasis because my life with the Inspiral Carpets was equally as valid. It's all part of the story and the story ain't finished yet.

"You can't write an autobiography at 44. What happens to me in the next 15 years is going to be equally as interesting."

Four Or Five Oasis Songs In Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds Setlist

Former Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher would like to be Knighted, but he doesn't want to receive ''an MBE or something lollipop ladies get''.

Noel Gallagher would like to become a Sir.

While the former Oasis guitarist would like to receive the official title that comes with a Knighthood, he's not sure he'd like to become a Member of the British Empire (MBE) - an awarded given by Britain's Queen Elizabeth to people for acts of community service, as well as to civil servants and entertainers for great achievement in their job - because he thinks they are accolades for "lollipop ladies".

During a live web chat last night (22.08.11), he said: "I'd make everybody call me Sir Noel. 'Good morning, Sir Noel.' Not an MBE or something lollipop ladies get. I'd love the queen to touch me with a sword - every middle-aged man's dream."

Unlike Liam and his new project Beady Eye, Noel is still planning to play Oasis songs he wrote live, as he regards them as his own, rather than belonging to the group.

He explained: "There are four Oasis songs in the setlist. I may go as far as five.

"I don't really see them as Oasis songs any more, I see them as my songs. I wrote them myself.

"We've all got to move on."

Noel Gallagher: I'm Sorry If Liam Is Offended By Oasis Comments

Noel Gallagher has confirmed that his brother Liam has begun legal action against him after he claimed Oasis cancelled a festival date because the singer had a hangover.

In a statement last week, the now Beady Eye singer said his brother had lied and he also endorsed the original line that Oasis dropped out of the V Festival in Chelmsford in 2009 because he had laryngitis.

Liam decided to take legal action at the High Court after Noel ignored a letter sent to his lawyers demanding an official apology, according to The Sun.

In a live webchat with fans last night (August 22), Noel admitted Liam did have a doctors note to prove he was ill and appeared to apologise to his younger brother.

''Yes there is truth in that story that Liam is suing me,” he said.

“For the record it is a fact that he was diagnosed with Laryngitis and it is a fact that he had a doctors note to prove it.”

He added: “I’d just like to say that if he gets offended by my opinions on such things then I apologise. It's all getting a little silly and out of hand and it's not very cool.''
