#1 Definitely Maybe

Recorded for around £85,000, Definitely Maybe remains the benchmark by which British guitar music must be judged. Rejected by Factory boss Tony Wilson for being "too baggy" the band's hybrid of Sex Pistols aggro and Beatles melody caught the ear of Creation boss Alan McGee after they forced their way onstage at a Glasgow club, threatening to trash the place if they couldn't play. It was this attitude that informed Definitely Maybe's many high pionts, from Rock 'N' Star to Live Forever.

Taking the baton from The Stone Roses, Oasis led the charge for a post-acid house youth who felt that anything was possible. A manifesto for it's times, the album became the fastest-selling debut in British history at the time. The Gallagher brothers' combative reltionship saw tours cancelled, interviews collapsing in punch-ups and Noel briefly quitting the group. All in the first year. Rock 'N' Roll was back.

A second Oasis classic proved Oasis were no flash in the pan. Hello to the drug-frazzled Champagne Supernova, via Wonderwall, these songs elevated Oasis to the pantheon of British rock greats.

I first met Oasis in 2002. It was like chairing a therapy session for the recently divorced. I remember nodding and wincing a lot and not really asking many of my prepared questions. Liam described Thom Yorke as a morris dancer, his ex as a monster. Noel quipped he'd married for tax reasons. In May 2005 I went to meet them prior to the launch of Don't Believe The Truth. No one mentioned to me that my previous interview had been cited in Noel's court case with ex-wife Meg Matthews.

When my eyes met Noel's the look I got back was the sort of stare with which I've seen mutants kill people on Doctor Who. Five minutes later he'd walked out. It seemed unlikely we'd ever speak again. However, Q's Editor negotiated a truce and I followed the band to Milan. What came next was bizarre.

At first they called me a student and a stupid cunt and threatened to kick me. Then they cuddled me and licked my eyes. They plied me with wine and marched meoutside to meet fans.

Finally, Liam stole my phone and rang my then girlfriend at 3am to ask her what colour knickers she was wearing. She was livid. Far from starstruck, she was invigilating some important exams early next morning.

We split shortly afterwards and as part of the "settlement" I lost a much-loved Nico album. So in a roundabout way I like to think we are quits

Oasis Roll With New Hits

Noel Gallagher says Oasis are already planning a new album — even though their next is yet to be released.

The band are busy promoting their best of CD, Stop The Clocks, out on November 20.

But Noel admits they are more concerned about bringing out new material. He said: “We’ve got so much left over from our last album, Don’t Believe The Truth. I reckon there is enough material for two or three albums.

“Our next new record is more important than the best of album, but the compilation had to happen now.”

Noel Gallagher: "New Best Of Is For Future Generations"

The Oasis leader explains how he put 'Stop The Clocks' together

Noel Gallagher has explained how he picked the tracks for forthcoming Best Of, 'Stop The Clocks', declaring it "a manifesto for future generations".

After much discussion between fans as to what should and shouldn't have made the cut, Oasis recently ended speculation by revealing the tracklisting for the album to be released on November 20. Now, speaking exclusively to NME, Noel explained he had clear plans for the record. "I've always said if we ever did one [a greatest hits] it was going to be one CD with 12 tunes" he said. "So I started off writing down all the ones I thaught were great - 30 odd tunes - and because the songs are so long that would have been three CD's. So it went down and down and now there's about eight that should be on it but aren't - 'Fade Away', '(it's good) To Be Free', 'Listen Up', 'Gas Panic!', 'D'You Know What I Mean?' and a couple of others."

The Future

Noel is worried about the omissions, however, claiming the album is mainly for people who haven't heard of Oasis yet. "To me these things are about future generations," he said. "When I got into The Beatles, it was the Red and Blue [greatest hits] albums. So this is about 30 years from now, when I am an old man and there are kids going, 'Yeah, thats the f*****g band that me old fella's granddad was into!' It's me saying, 'This is our best work', I've had arguments this week with people going, "Rockin' Chair' isn't on it - thats wrong, man!' I've had stand-up rows with people! But that must mean we're pretty good. If people are arguing about what's not on it, it's brilliant! But I'm in charge! Someone has got to pick the tracklisting and I've picked it and thats the end of it. This is the manifesto for future generations. It's for 10 or 15 years from now, for when people are going, 'That's that band everyone was yakking on about'."

Label Pressure

If it was up to the band, Noel added, a Best Of would not be released until Oasis split, however, he claimed the band were pressured into doing 'Stop The Clocks'. "We said we wouldn't do it until we called it a day," he admitted, "but as were signed to Sony and we made it clear we weren't going to re-sign to them, we got wind they were going to do a greatest hits or a Best Of. We got told a greatest hits. Now, our greatest hits, ie all the singles, is not our best stuff, right? So we were faced with the decision of either standing back and saying in NME: "We're not getting on board, don't buy it', or going, 'Right, if it's got to be now then we'll get involved.' The way it's panned out, there are eight Number One Singles that aren't on it, 'coz it's all B-Sides and album tracks. They [the label] seemed a little bit arsed about that, but if we're going to do a definitive collection of where we are now, then our singles are not our best work. It's our album tracks, the famous songs. We all know what we are talking about: 'Half The World Away', Champagne Supernova', 'Talk Tonight'...our B-sides are some of our best work. So we thaught if we don't do it they're going to do it and bastardise it. If it has to be now, it has to be now."

Despite deciding to engage with the release, the guitarist said he wondered about the relevance of Best Of compilations with the growth of MP3 players and playlist culture. "I got into the Doors, The Beatles, The Kinks and The Who by buying Best Of's. They are valid, but I'm not sure what they mean in our age of playlists and ipods and all that," he explained. "I'm sure somebody somewhere has got the exact tracklisting [of The Best Of] on their playlist or ipod. I'm not sure they're that big a deal any more. But as I say, we were kind of shoved into it."

The New Album

Noel, who joined Kasabian onstage last week (Sept 12) at London's KOKO for NME.COM's 10th birthday party, added that it was unlikely Oasis would play any shows around 'Stop The Clocks' release.

"I'm playing at KOKO in November for Russell Brand's tour, but we're actively trying to play it [the Best Of] down because it's not what we're about, really," said the guitarist. "We've got so much left over from the last album - at least another two or three albums' worth of material, but Russell asked me to do this thing so I said, 'F**k it, alright'. We're not trying to big this collection up. Our next new record is more important than this one, but this had to happen now. In a way it's liberating - we've done it and it's out there. It's finished now and it stops people asking about it, because we were getting asked about it constantly!"

Noel Promises More Future Releases

Compilation Tiding Over Label-less OasisThe greatest hits set "Stop the Clocks," coming Nov. 21 via Epic, will have to satisfy the appetites of Oasis fans for awhile, according to guitarist and chief songwriter Noel Gallagher. The band is also without a label, having fulfilled its worldwide deal with Sony Music.

"There's no plans to do anything," Gallagher says of future Oasis recording. "Saying that, there's no plans not to do anything, either. We're not like other bands in that respect. We're masters of our own destiny and take these things one album at a time. The last time we sat down and planned an album, it turned into 'Don't Believe the Truth,' and that took three years to record.

"Those sessions, however, yielded plenty of songs; Gallagher notes that of 11 leftover tracks, "there's seven that are good and four that are really great, so we could put an album out tomorrow if we wanted.

"But don't count on it. Instead, Oasis plan to focus on "Stop the Clocks" -- named after an unreleased Gallagher song -- which features 18 hits and favorites from Oasis' 12 years of recording, including the B-sides "Acquiesce" and "Half the World Away." Gallagher says he was approached about including some new songs on the album as well, but that he opted not to "because it takes the focus away from what you're actually trying to say with a retrospective.

"Gallagher promises that a boxed set and other unreleased and archival material will one day come out of the Oasis vaults. He also says Oasis won't be resigning with Sony, and the band is currently weighing its options for the future.

"I'd like to do something on our own, but it's a bit of a big step," he says. "It depends on what works best for all of us, really. [Oasis vocalist] Liam (Gallagher) will want the big advance of $900 million and be drinking champagne for the rest of his life. I, on the other hand, would rather put the records out and keep all the money. So I don't know which way we'll go."

Stop The Clocks Artwork Explained

Oasis team up with Beatles artist for Best Of sleeve...

We all know Oasis are massive Beatles fans, so how did they mark their Best Of? By getting Sir Peter Blake, the man responsible for the 'Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' sleeve, to design the 'Stop The Clocks' cover.

NME: What was the concept behind the Oasis cover?

Sir Peter Blake: "There are many levels of meaning to the pictures, but also I think in a way the point is that none of it means anything. I was choosing all the objects at random. I suppose in the back of my mind, was the cover of 'Sgt Pepper's.....'

After that came out there were so many theories about what the cover meant - that the flower bed was marijuana and that it signified Paul was dead. I suppose I was picking the objects subconsciously, so that I was leaving it for the fans' interpretation.

The 'Definitely Maybe' cover was in the back of my mind too. What intrigued me about it was that although some of those objects meant something to the band, you couldn't possibly know what some of the others meant! It's using the mystery of 'Definitely Maybe' and running with it."

You must have known Oasis were big Beatles fans?

"I did and I'm sure that's one of the main reasons they asked me to do it. it wasn't the original cover, though. We did a different design first. We used a image of the outside of Granny Takes A Trip on the King's Road as a canvas, but then I discovered the shop was bringing out an album, so we had to abandon that. What happened with the cover was that Noel came into the studio, looked at my work and said what he liked."

Tell us a bit about the objects in the locker?

"Dorothy (from the Wizard of Oz) is there as my icon, rather then theirs. We had an image of Marilyn Monroe that we wanted to use, but there was ongoing litigation with the use of that image, so we ended up using Michael Caine. I put the seven dwarves in there because they're objects that I put in quite often. I've done a whole series of things that feature Snow White And The Seven Dwarves in various predicaments. It was no more then that."

Oasis Release Stop The Clocks EP

On 13th November 2006 Oasis release a brand new collectors EP of classic songs. The EP is led by Acquiesce, for many the finest Oasis song never to be a single, and book-ended by The Masterplan, the master-ful b-side to ‘Wonderwall’ released a decade ago. Also included on the EP are never before heard recordings of Cigarettes and Alcohol and Some Might Say, that were unearthed during the mastering of the forthcoming Best Of album.

As birthday surprises go, getting Noel Gallagher onstage for two songs at NME.COM'S 10th birthday party (September 12) was pretty special. Speaking to NME after the show, the Oasis leader explained why he dropped in to lend Kasabian a hand.

NME: Did you enjoy being in Kasabian for the night?

Noel Gallagher: "It's the smallest gig I've seen them do, well, ever actually because every time I've seen them they've either been supporting us or it was at Brixton Academy. They asked us to play Ibiza on a proper pissed-up, pharmaceutical night out. They said, 'Are you going to get up with us?', so i said 'Yeah, yeah!" But they're off to New York tomorrow, we're off doing our Best Of press so there was only one night when we were in town together and that was tonight! As luck would have it, it was the NME night, so we thought, 'Brilliant, let's do it!'''

Why did you play on those particular songs?

"Serge picked the two songs. If he'd have asked me I'd have said 'Club Foot', but then he said 'The Doberman' too and I thought 'Fucking brilliant!" 'Club Foot' is my favourite. It was the first bit of music I ever heard by them. When the interviews started two or three years I thought, 'They're gobby little fuckers, I hope they can back it up.' Then I heard 'Club Foot' and it was, 'Fuckin whoa, man! Is someone saying "Oosh!"? I went to see them live before before we went on tour with them and they were the fucking business!"

We enjoyed your "Ooshes".

"I fucking love that! When we first ever got to play with them we were going' Is that an "Oosh"?' and Tom Said, 'Yeah, "Oosh"'. What is that? It's where Serge taps into the dance music thing. They're up there with The Prodigy and the Primals. 'Screamadelica' is the definitive guitar dance record, it's not even indie dance or any of that shit. Kasabian are there now and they're making music which is unique."

Were you worried about the flying glowsticks?

"when they came on and there were glowsticks flying i was thinking, 'That would never happen at an Oasis gig, because someone would have said, "Throw them once more and you're out of here.''' I thought by the time I got on they'd all be on the stage anyway so it would be alright. I might have got hit in the head, but as luck would have it I smashed my own nose up with my guitar instead. I was on the drum-riser and managed to headbutt my own guitar and cut my nose!"

On This Day In Oasis History.......

"Little By Little" is a song by British rock band Oasis. Along with She Is Love, it made up the band's first double A-side single. The song appeared on the bands fifth album Heathen Chemistry. Noel Gallagher provides lead vocals on the track, considered by many critics to be a rather cavalier act as his brother, Liam Gallagher, is considered one of Britain's finest vocalists.




"Little by Little" was perhaps the most controversial song on the album, receiving mixed reviews from those who felt it was a classic example of an upbeat Oasis anthem and those who felt it was a twee, patronising, sycophantic melody. Regardless of this the song managed to peak at number two in the UK charts based largely on the publicity garnered by the song.

The promo video to the song featured a guest role by Robert Carlyle. The cover art for the single is an homage to Robert Indiana's LOVE artwork.

She is Love is a Noel Gallagher-penned track on Oasis' Heathen Chemistry album. It's a light, acoustic song about being in love. The song was written about Gallagher's girlfriend Sara McDonald.



Gallagher claims it was written in the Buckingham Gate Hotel in London, and that it took 30 minutes to complete.

It was released as a double A-side single along with Little By Little.

Liam Has An 'Uppy Birthday

It’s never a dull night when monkeyboy Liam Gallagher hits town.

The Oasis frontman went out with girlfriend Nicole Appleton for some posh nosh to celebrate his 34th birthday.

And as he came out of London’s Nobu restaurant with beer stains on his shirt, Liam flashed his famous “up yours” finger gesture at waiting snappers.

But he was obviously in a good mood because he couldn’t really bring himself to do a full-on Gallagher snarl.

Liam emerged wearing his shades in the dark and jumped into a waiting car with Nicole – who was full of smiles.

Earlier in the day, the All Saints singer had embarrassed the hardman rocker by telling Radio 1’s Chris Moyles that her birthday pressie to him was a “manbag”.

I can’t see him using it, can you?

Big brother Noel preferred to spend the day in New York with gorgeous girlfriend Sara Macdonald.

Noel will be pleasantly surprised to hear his baby bro wasn’t too badly behaved on his big day . . . till the next time, that is.

Noel One Of 20 Covers For Q's 20th Anniversary Edition

LONDON - Music magazine Q is to celebrate its 20th anniversary with 20 different covers for its November issue, each one featuring a different musical icon ranging from Keith Richards to Britney Spears.

The list includes Sir Paul McCartney, who was Q's debut cover star in October 1986, and many other big names whose careers have lasted as long as the magazine, such as David Bowie, Paul Weller, Richards and Michael Stipe.

Despite her extended career break, Britney Spears made the 20 as one of few relative newcomers, who also include Beyonce and Richard Ashcroft. The newest face is Razorlight's Johnny Borrell.

All have given exclusive photoshoots and interviews, talking about their personal highlights and low points over the past 20 years, for the issue on sale September 30.

Paul Rees, editor of the Emap title, said: "The 20th anniversary of Q, the essential music guide, is a landmark moment, and therefore we were determined to mark it with a landmark publishing moment."

Subscribers will receive a specially produced edition featuring all 20 different cover images.

On This Day In Oasis History.......

"Stand By Me" is a song by British rock group Oasis, written by lead guitarist Noel Gallagher. It was the second single to be released from the band's third album Be Here Now and peaked at number 2 in the UK charts.

Though overall, Be Here Now received a cold reception from music critics, "Stand By Me" was acknowledged as one of the stand-out tracks on the album. A critically acclaimed acoustic version of "Stand by Me" was shown on television the night before the release of Be Here Now as part of a BBC1 documentary, featuring Noel, Liam Gallagher and drummer Alan White sitting by the side of a swimming pool, with Liam on vocals, Noel on acoustic guitar and White holding a tambourine.



However, due to Noel Gallagher's general dislike of Be Here Now, "Stand by Me" is rarely played live by the band at their concerts, as it is Noel who generally decides the song listings for Oasis' tours. A live version of the song from this tour can be found on the double-CD version of Familiar to Millions.

Noel Gallagher claims to have written the song whilst suffering from food poisening when he first moved to London. His mother Peggy would phone him to check on him and repeatedly told him to ensure he was eating properly. This spurred Gallagher to cook himself a proper English Sunday Dinner, which resulted in a bout of food poisening. Gallagher claims that he the songs first line - "Made a meal and threw it up on Sunday/I've got a lot of things to learn" - came to him as he lay on the floor and it was then that he began to pen the lyric to the song.

"Going Nowhere" - apparently Noel's attempt at a Burt Bacharach style song - can be found on The Masterplan, a collection of Oasis B-sides. It is one of only two B-sides from the Be Here Now era to be included on the album. Although it was not released until 1997, the song was written in 1990, before Noel even joined Oasis, let alone before they were signed. Despite this, it shows an uncanny level of perceptiveness from Noel with lines like I'm gonna get me a motor car/Maybe a Jaguar/Maybe a plane/Or a day of fame/I'm gonna be a millionaire.

The title of "My Sister Lover" is believed by some fans to be a reference to the band Sister Lovers, who were the group who invited Oasis to a gig at King Tut's Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow, Scotland in May 1993, where they were spotted by Creation Records chief Alan McGee, who reportedly offered Oasis a recording contract on the spot after the gig.

Liam's "Manbag"

Liam Gallagher's bad boy image has taken a beating, after girlfriend Nicole Appleton bought him a manbag for his birthday.

The Oasis frontman turns 34 today, and according to his All Saints singer girlfriend, is relishing the girly gift - which he picked out himself.

Speaking to Radio One DJ Chris Moyles, Nicole admitted: "It’s Liam’s birthday today.
"I took him shopping and we got a wool coat and a gorgeous leather bag."
Moyles mocked: "A manbag?"

Nicole joked: "Oh no! I mean suitcase, not a manbag! Yeah, I got him a Barbie."

William John Paul Gallagher (born September 21, 1972, Longsight, Manchester) is the lead vocalist for the band Oasis. He is famous for his erratic behaviour, distinctive singing style and abrasive attitude. Although his brother Noel Gallagher writes the majority of the band's songs, in recent years Liam has increasingly developed himself as a songwriter, and has contributed songs for the most recent albums of the band.
Despite differing opinions on his antics, Liam was one of the figureheads of the britpop movement in the 1990s and remains one of the most recognisable and charismatic characters in modern British music.














Lead Singer

Liam is well known for his original style of singing, and his voice on Oasis tracks is instantly recognisable. Liam once compared his vocal style to a blend of John Lennon and John Lydon. Noel has hinted that he uses certain words regularly in his songs because of the way Liam pronounces them when he sings. For example, Noel has included the word 'shine' in several songs because Liam famously sings it as 'Sheee-yienn-ah' (probably influenced in part by John Lennon's protracted, nasal phrasing on words such as "shiiiine" in the Beatles song "Rain" and John Lennon's song "Instant Karma") "We all shiiiiine on" Noel jokes that Liam now does this all the time, imitating Liam phoning him up and asking "D'yer wanna go for a piiiiiint-ah?"
The UK based music magazine NME have regularly proclaimed Liam as the "greatest British vocalist of the past 25 years."

Liam's stage presence has been both praised and derided. He is famed for going against rock and roll tradition by rarely touching the microphone or its stand. Instead, he stands, hands behind back or in his pockets, with a bent knee and sideways bend at the waist, his neck bent upwards towards an angled-down microphone. This recognisable singing pose has been suggested by some as a contributing factor to his distinctive vocals.

But many years of singing in that pose, along with years of heavy smoking and drinking may have taken their toll, with many fans feeling Gallagher's voice may now lack the range and power he exhibited in his youth. Although it is a subject regularly debated and argued about by Oasis fans, neither Liam or Noel Gallagher have made much public comment about it, although in a BBC interview on June 2002, Liam admitted he couldn't sing certain older songs live "because I'm not 21 these days", and in December 2005 Noel expressed frustration at the lack of variation in live setlists because "We draw up a list of songs we'd like to play, Liam crosses them all off, and then he draws up a list of songs that he's capable of singing, and then we kind of look at it and go 'but that's the fucking same as last time'."




















Songwriting

Liam's first known dabbles into songwriting came in the early days of Oasis, before Noel Gallagher joined. Liam and Bonehead co-wrote a handful of songs, Liam writing the words and Bonehead writing the music, including "Take Me" and "Life In Vain" (both available on bootlegs). Of these songs, only "Take Me" met the Noel Gallagher seal of approval, with his wish to re-record and release it being turned down by the writers.

Liam also co-wrote a song (titled "Love Me and Leave Me") with former Stone Roses guitarist and songwriter John Squire for The Seahorses' debut album in 1997.

With 2000's Standing on the Shoulder of Giants came a slight relaxation in Noel's songwriting monopoly. Liam's first successful attempt to produce a song adequate for an Oasis album was "Little James", written about his stepson James. The song was ridiculed by a lot of fans and critics who mocked it's childlike rhyme scheme and heavy Beatles influence.

This more democratic approach to songwriting, save Liam further chances to showcase his abilities in this particular area, with three songs being included on 2002's Heathen Chemistry; a "deep-thinking" rocking ballad, "Born on a Different Cloud", the sneering rocker "Better Man" and the mellow, acoustic "Songbird", written for his fiancée Nicole Appleton. Noel claimed that his brother had written five songs for the Heathen Chemistry sessions and from these they took the best three. His tunes, along with the record, received a much warmer reception from fans and high sales, despite receiving bad reviews from critics again.

The latest Oasis album, 2005's Don't Believe the Truth, features a further three of Liam's songs - "The Meaning of Soul", "Love Like A Bomb" and "Guess God Thinks I'm Abel". The second is described by Noel as "Songbird's bigger brother" and a "song for the ladies", while the latter - as a song in the vein of "Born On A Different Cloud", but without the guitars. Another Liam song is the acoustic ballad "Won't Let You Down" - also inspired by Lennon's "Give Peace a Chance" - which appeared on the single "Lyla". Noel stressed that most of the batch of 70 tunes written for the turbulent Don't Believe the Truth sessions were written single-handedly by Liam. Another new Liam-written song was released as a b-side to the single, "The Importance Of Being Idle". The song, entitled "Pass Me Down The Wine", features an acoustic-led melody in the vein of "Songbird".

However, in an interview following the release of Don't Believe the Truth, Liam stated that he doesn't believe he is improving as a songwriter and often needs guitarist Gem Archer's assistance. As a consequence, Gem is credited as co-writer of "Love Like A Bomb" on the new album. He commented "Gem helps me out a lot, I struggle with lyrics sometimes... I can't find the words. The words I find hard 'cos I'm fucking thick."

A new Liam song "The Boy With The Blues" was planned for a stand-alone single release in Summer 2006, but the planned recording sessions for the song didn't take place.

Noel: I'm Only In It For The Money

Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher has admitted he wouldn't keep the band going if it wasn't for the money.

Noel revealed he is fed up of doing all of the group's press and promotion work and says his troubled relationship with brother Liam makes life on the road difficult.

However, he has decided to keep the group together because he rakes in millions of pounds a year.

He told MTV: "Because I'm so eloquent and Liam is the opposite of it - whatever that is - I always get nominated to do all the press interviews.

"I'm working from 11 in the morning 'til 4 in the morning and it's a pain in the arse for me. He gets to walk around in stupid clothes, swearing and getting p****d.

"I'll be frank, if we didn't get paid as much as we do I probably wouldn't bother.

"I love performing and getting up on stage for an hour and a half, but being on tour with our kid is not a walk in the park.

"It's difficult 'cos he's always getting on my case for something or other. We are always not talking to each other."

Oasis are to release a greatest hits album, 'Stop The Clocks', on November 20.

Life On The Road

Lord Don't Slow Me Down is a rockumentary film, looking back on British band Oasis' Don't Believe The Truth world tour from May 2005 to March 2006. The film is directed by Baillie Walsh.

Oasis official website states that a number of cities around the world will be showing the film at dates to be confirmed in November 2006. It's as yet unknown whether this means a worldwide cinema release will follow, or if these dates are special events prior to a DVD release.
The album is being released to coincide with Oasis' best-of album "Stop The Clocks", released on November 20, 2006. A preview of the film was included on the Let There Be Love DVD single, released in November 2005.

There is also an unreleased Oasis song called "Lord Don't Slow Me Down", written by Noel Gallagher and recorded during the Don't Believe The Truth sessions, Gallagher has confirmed as being "finished, recorded, mixed, and mastered". He also commented, "I'm singing it, and let me tell ya, man, it's one of the best things, like The Who, The Yardbirds and the Jeff Beck Group combined, and it's got two drum solos on it!". He has also said that his girlfriend thinks it's the only Oasis song you can dance to. The song was left off 'Don't Believe The Truth' because Gallagher felt that including it would have meant he'd have been singing too many songs on the record, but hopes are high amongst Oasis fans that the song will have some place in the film.

Liam Excited About All Saints Reunion

Liam Gallagher has splashed out on a diamond necklace for his fiancée Nicole Appleton to celebrate her return to All Saints.

The Oasis star spent £4,000 on the gift during a visit to Selfridges in London while his wife spent time with bandmates Shaznay Lewis, Mel Blatt and sister Natalie Appleton.

A source told the Daily Star: "Liam wanted to do something nice for Nicole as he is so proud she is back in the band. He is really excited about them releasing their new single Rock Steady and has been giving them all tons of advice.

"Liam loves the single and thinks it will be a winner. He has also been really happy about helping them."

Noel Takes Swipe At Liam

Noel Gallagher has admitted to MTV he’s fed-up of being Oasis’s spokesman while brother Liam swans off partying.

The band release their greatest hits album ‘Stop The Clocks’ in November and Noel admits doing the brunt of the promo work has started to get to him.

Noel: I'll Pay Star For City

Rocker Noel Gallagher nearly left himself broke by drunkenly offering to pay a football star £7.8mil-lion a year to play for Manchester City.

The Oasis guitarist jokingly asked AC Milan star Paolo Maldini if he would play for his beloved team at a party.

But he had to backtrack next morning when he was told Maldini had taken him seriously.
Noel, 39, said: "I said to him in a drunken ramble if he promised to play for City I would personally give him £150,000 a week.

"My manager rang me to tell me he thought I meant it. I had to phone him to say I didn't."

If Maldini, 38, had taken up the offer, Noel would have lost his £25million fortune in three years.

It is not the first time Noel has tried to tempt an Italian superstar.

Earlier this year he told his friend Alessandro Del Piero he would love him at City.

But World Cup winner Del Piero, 31, said: "I couldn't leave Juventus - I owe them too much."

Noel Rocks 'N' Rolls Home

Noel Gallagher proved he's still Rock 'N' Roll Star at NME.com's 10th birthday bash.

The mono-browed Manc,39, spent the night reacquainting himself with Cigarettes and Alcohol and Champagne Supernova... and we don't mean the Oasis songs.

But he did get music bigwigs emotionally reliving the halycon days of Britpop, by playing with Kasabian for the bash at London's Koko club. And he spent the rest of the night - and following morning - toasting the head-swelling reception he received.

However, he contained enough bubbly to fill Ivana Trump's bath by the end of the night. And it showed when he fell out of the car as he was driven home.

An insider said: "His girlfriend Sara MacDonald thought it was hilarious.

Oasis Finally Unveil Best Of Tracklisting

Oasis have finally released details of the true tracklisting for their Best Of collection 'Stop The Clocks'. The order and contents of the album, which is due for release on November 20, has been the cause of fevered speculation.

The exact tracklisting is keenly contested by fans, with over 20,000 entering the band's competition to predict the correct running order.

Picked by the band themselves - and there are a few surprising omissions.

Stand-alone Christmas single 'Whatever' and Britpop chart battler 'Roll With It' do not make the cut, while neither the original version nor the UNKLE remix of 'Cast No Shadow' are included.

However, classic-era Oasis does make up the bulk of the Best Of, with the group selecting14 of the 18 tracks from their first two albums and related B-sides. 'Songbird' meanwhile, is the sole Liam Gallagher penned inclusion.

Oasis are currently finalising plans for a single to precede the album, with 'Some Might Say' B-side 'Acquiesce' expected to get its first full release.

Meanwhile the record will be accompanied by the band's first ever film Lord Don't Slow Me Down. Stills from the movie - reveal that filming took place during the bands world tour between May 2005 and March 2006.

Directed by Baillie Walsh, the man behind last year's 'Let There Be Love' video, plus clips for the likes of New Order and Massive Attack, the film is currently due to come out around 'Stop The Clocks'' release.

Shot mainley in black and white, highlights include Liam Gallagher lamely flirting with Sarah Harding, the band getting totally bemused by some over-zealous Italian radio hosts and, remarkably, Noel Gallagher lifting the lid on a few rock-star secrets, as he discusses his pulling technique.

The film, which is set to hit cinemas around the world with a series of global screenings, is named after a unreleased Oasis track from the Don't Believe The Truth sessions, which Noel described at the time as: "I'm singing it and let me tell tell ya man, it's one of the best things - like The Jeff Beck Group combined. And it's got two drum solos on it!"

The track is expected to feature in the film.

Noel Reckons Lads Are Kas Act

Noel Gallagher is back at his partying best — thanks to Kasabian.

The Oasis wildman got stuck in with the Leicester lads on stage at the nme.com tenth birthday party on Tuesday.

Frontman Tom Meighan drove fans wild with his energetic performance. The fun continued backstage, with Noel leading a conga. Judging by the way he stumbled out of the bash with girlfriend Sara Macdonald there was no Maybe about it — he’d Definitely had a few.

Tom said: “Noel came down before the gig, we did a run through and he got it all straight away.

“It’s strange to think he’s playing with us, but he’s a friend of ours now so it all felt so natural.”

Tom says he became really depressed after the band’s last tour and was delighted to be back on stage.

He said: “I didn’t literally crack up and need to see a doctor but I went mad for myself really, all by myself.

“It’s just the biggest comedown of my life. On the road for over two years and then that’s it — nothing to do any more.”

Supergroup Oasis are said to be planning a series of TV appearances to promote their upcoming greatest hits album. Unfortuneatly, vocalist Liam Gallagher has had a bit to say about appearing on early morning breakfast television.

"Cant we just record a batch of special promo's? I hate getting up that early.'"He is quoted in saying. Poor boy.

Happy Birthday Zak Starkey

Zak Starkey (born September 13, 1965 in London, England) is the drummer for two British rock 'n' roll bands, The Who and Oasis. Before that he had also worked with prominent acts such as Johnny Marr, Icicle Works, the Waterboys, ASAP, and the Lightning Seeds. Zak is the first-born son of Beatles drummer Ringo Starr (real name: Richard Starkey) and his first wife, Maureen Cox.

Early Life
Starkey received his first small starter drum kit from his father, although legend mistakenly reports that it came from his idol, Keith Moon of the Who. Moon did, however, give Zak his first professional kit – one he previously used in Who recordings, and also gave him some drumming lessons.

At the age of eight, he became interested in music. At ten, he started teaching himself how to play drums after receiving only one lesson from his famous father, who reportedly did not want him following in his footsteps. Although Ringo praises his son's undeniable skills and talents, he said about his son's musical dedication and endeavour that he "always regarded Zak as a lawyer or as a doctor", not a drummer like himself.

By the age of 12, Starkey was already performing in pubs with a band. In his teens, Starkey was a member of the garage act the Next. He eventually landed work with a re-formed Spencer Davis Group. In 1985, shortly after getting married, Starkey released a musical version of Wind in the Willows with Eddie Hardin. On September 7, 1985, his daughter was born making his father, Ringo Starr, the first grandfather of all Beatles' members. He suffered the tragic loss of his mother in 1994 when she died of leukemia, despite a bone marrow transplant in which Zak was the donor.

Career

1996-present) The Who

In 1996, Starkey left his band Face, to fulfill a childhood dream of joining The Who. He has received very good reviews in this role – especially from Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey – for being a strong drumming presence but without explicitly imitating Moon. Zak has been the full-time drummer for The Who since their 1996 Quadrophenia Tour. Both Townshend and Daltrey have stated that he is the best drummer The Who have had since the death of original drummer Keith Moon. He has provided the drum work for The Who's new album Endless Wire, set to be released in October 31, 2006, and the two tracks released in 2004 on The Who: Then and Now. Starkey however was unavailable to lay down the drumline for the recent Who single "Wire & Glass" because he was on tour with Oasis. Starkey is currently on tour with The Who.

(2004-present) Oasis

In 2004, Starkey joined the famous Britpop band, filling a void left by longtime drummer Alan White's departure. In May 2005, Noel Gallagher revealed to the BBC that Starkey had recorded in recent recording sessions for their new album, Don't Believe The Truth. Starkey performed on all but one of the tracks on "Don't Believe The Truth" and subsequent b-sides. In an official promotional video for the album, Zak commented on the band and the sessions, saying, "It was amazing. They're all singers, They're all guitar players, they're all songwriters, they're all producers... and they're all fucking drummers."

Starkey participated in every show on Oasis 2005/2006 world tour and also appeared in the promo videos for the singles. However, as he isn't an official member of the band yet, Starkey very rarely appeared with the rest of the band in promotional activities such as interviews and photo-shoots.

After the end of tours in April, Noel Gallagher confirmed that the official drummer place is offered to Starkey, but future work of Oasis with him in the band is expected to begin, not before his current working engagements with the Who are over with. Noel also said that he felt Starkey had strong emotional ties with The Who and that he didn't think Zak would ever leave them completely.

Other work

Zak had established himself as a sought-after session musician and as a gifted and proven drummer, playing drums for artists such as Icicle Works, the Waterboys, ASAP, and the Lightning Seeds. In addition, he continued to work with other acts, including touring with the Lightning Seeds. In 2000 Starkey was a founding member of Johnny Marr & the Healers, debuting with Boomslang three years later.

Kasabian have stormed NME.COM's tenth birthday celebrations in London tonight (September 12).

The band were joined by pal Noel Gallagher on guitar for 'Club Foot' and 'The Doberman'.
The set proved a special one for the Leicester band as they tore through highlights from their two albums, 2004's eponymous debut and recent chart-topper 'Empire'.

Crowd favourites included stomping glam opener 'Shoot The Runner', the epic 'By My Side' and set closer 'L.S.F.'.

They also played new Serge Pizzorno-fronted album track 'British Legion' for the first time ever live.

Speaking afterwards to NME.COM frontman Tom Meighan said: "It's a really great little venue, I'm really buzzing. It's an honour to play the party."

He added that getting the Oasis leader to play with them had being a real highlight: "He just came down, we did a run through at soundcheck and he's got it all straightaway. It's strange to think he's playing with us, but he's a friend of ours now, so it all felt so natural."

Gallagher was just happy to praise the band, simply asking NME.COM, "How good was that?"

Oasis Video Nasty

Oasis are set to boycott their own video shoot and infuriate hundreds of fans.

They invited die-hard followers to star in a promo for the new single Acquiesce being shot at a top-secret london gig venue tonight.

But last night no-one knew if Liam, 33, and Noel, 39, or even guitarist Gem Archer, 40, would be there.

A confused fan got in touch with me to say: "I got an e-mail from Oasis website saying there was a chance to be in the new video. ""We were under the impression that since it was at the venue, the band would be performing.

"But now we've been told not to get our hopes up. They aren't coming.

"We've been told it'll take four hours of our time, so if the band aren't there, they'd better have some free booze." Fans were also waiting to hear where the shoot would take place.

Yesterday Oasis did confirm the tracklist to their greatest hits Stop The Clocks, out November 20.

Interestingly there are no songs from Be Here Now and only one each from Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants and Heathen Chemistry.

The Grange Hill druggie has lost best pal Roly Browning to Oasis star Liam Gallaher.

It’s an unlikely friendship but I can reveal Roly, real name Erkan Mustafa, has become Liam’s No1 boozing buddy.

A source said: “Erkan is a DJ. He met Liam in a studio and they really hit it off. They’ve been out for beers.”

Roly sang on the Grange Hill anti-drugs hit Just Say No in 1986. I wonder if Liam was a fan . . ?

Brandon Flowers Digs Noel Gallagher

The Killers have paid homage to Noel Gallagher saying the Oasis lycnhpin is “real regular dude.”

The Las Vegas band supported Oasis on tour last year, in which time they forged a close bond with the older Gallagher.

Frontman Brandon Flowers also said that Noel helped them with the recording process on their second album ‘Sam’s Town.’

He explained to MTV: “I saw Noel a few months before we started the album. He had the same mentality about our band as he had for his own – just go and make the album.”

Flowers continued: “He likes our band, but we’ve hung out after one of our shows and he was a real regular dude. He’s funny, real funny. He’s a happy guy.”

Stop The Clocks Track Listing Revealed

After much speculation Oasis announce the final track listing for their definitive collection Stop The Clocks.

Unlike most albums of this nature, Oasis have sat down and undertaken the almost impossible job of picking what they consider to be their finest moments ever. So Stop The Clock is imbued with the sort of wilfulness that has helped make Oasis the favourite band of millions of people worldwide and its running order will no doubt provoke equal parts adulation and bar discussions from the millions of Oasis fans worldwide. Could it ever be any other way? Oasis have been at the helm of the world's music scene for over ten years and, on 20th November 2006 the first ever Oasis retrospective will draw together the years of multi platinum albums, Number One singles and, unique to Oasis, instantly familiar B sides into one 18 track double album entitled Stop the Clocks.

Champagne Super Rover

A swanky Range Rover once owned by Oasis star Noel Gallagher is up for sale on the internet auction site eBay.

Civil servant Andy Iles - who bought the 4x4 from the rock star - aims to get £12,000 for it.

The 1999 model boasts blacked-out windows, leather seats and has clocked up 10,000 miles.

Andy, 40, of Didcot, Oxfordshire, said: "It's in great condition - and it gives you a real buzz driving round in a car which Noel owned.

"If you're an Oasis fan this will appeal to you."
