Warner Brothers Announce Distrubution Deal With Big Brother

After more than a decade with Sony Music, Brit-pop phenoms Oasis have found a new home, at Burbank's Warner Bros. Records. Today, Warner Bros. will announce a North American distribution deal with Big Brother Recordings, the Noel and Liam Gallagher-owned label, and the Oct. 7 release date of Dig Out Your Soul, the band's seventh studio album. The first single, "The Shock of Lightning," written by Noel, will hit radio in mid-August.

Earlier this summer, word had spread around Los Angeles that the Gallagher brothers were in town mixing the album, which was recorded at Abbey Road studios in London. The guys, seen at various psych-rock shows around town, were said to have almost 40 songs completed. Since then, that number has been truncated, but the record still features songwriting contributions by all four band members. Says Diarmuid Quinn, Warner Bros. Records COO, "The new music kicks ass!”

Liam Gallagher Is Enjoying The Sun-shee-ine

Here's Liam Gallagher getting his last sun-shee-ine holiday before a huge 18 months for Oasis.

The frontman was snapped relaxing and sinking rose wine with wife Nicole in the Costa Del Sol.

The pair were also joined by Nicole’s sister Natalie and other friends and family.

Sitting in his straw hat, Liam looked more like The Man From Del Monte than a Manc hardman.

Oasis release their first single from new album Dig Out Your Soul in September, with the album out in October.

Then they start a mammoth world tour.

I hear the tracks Liam has penned are good, with one being tipped as the best on the album.

He still needs a haircut, though.

Alan Mcgee Initially Thought Oasis Were 'Facists'

Creation records founder speaks to Uncut about his history with the band

Creation Records' boss Alan McGee has spoken to Uncut about his time with the band, from signing them in the early 90s to becoming in his own words "the people's band."

However in an exclusive cover interview in the September issue of Uncut magazine McGee explains some confusion about who the Gallaghers were, writing them off as right-wingers. McGee says: "I didn't put the name Oasis together with Noel. I just thought 'Fascist.'

He adds: "My little Manchester mate, Debbie Turner, shared a practice space with this band that had a Union Jack on the wall. I remember looking at the Union Jack and asking, “Are they fascists?” and she said, “Yes.” She was taking the p**s, of course. She added, “They’re called Oasis.”

"It was a psychedelic Union Jack, sitting alongside pictures of John Lennon and Yoko Ono. But it was still a Union Jack – and back then, before the whole Cool Britannia bollocks, a Union Jack meant you had to be right-wing. I truly didn’t have a clue. I didn’t put the name Oasis together with Noel. I just thought, ‘Fascist.’"

Rapper slams Oasis frontman after Glastonbury row

Jay-Z has hit back at Noel Gallagher, saying he copies other artists with his music.

The rapper was responding to the Oasis frontman claiming rap didn't belong at Glastonbury.

'He made a blanket statement,' Jay-Z tells Observer Music Monthly. 'He hasn't heard every hip-hop record and I haven't heard every rock record, so I can't make a blanket statement and say rock doesn't belong somewhere.

‘I can say that Noel Gallagher rips off The Beatles. I can say that because I’ve heard his music.’

The 38-year-old hip-hop star adds like he'd like to meet Noel, 41, for a chat about music.

‘I’d like to sit him down, play him some really great poetic music, some incredible, well-produced hip-hop,' he says.

‘Things have to change. Just because something has been a certain way doesn't make it right. To me, music is music.’

Noel Gallagher: We Had To Dig Out Our Cash

Oasis Star's Claims Over Winning Abbey Road Recording Slot.

Oasis rocker Noel Gallagher claims he had to give bosses of the famous Abbey Road studios a bag of cash to let the band record their seventh album there.

The mouthy musician and his bandmates, including younger brother Liam, were banned from the London studios, the former recording home of The Beatles, after laying tracks down for 1997 album Be Here Now there.

Guitarist Noel told MOJO magazine they were informed they'd no longer be welcome after turning their recording space into a late-night party hot spot.

He admitted the rockers upset Abbey Road chiefs by "blasting out Beatles records at four in the morning" and "doing loads of drugs" so had to give them a bag of cash to record Dig Out Your Soul.

The singer also let slip he had to pinch the slot from Irish music giants U2, who he claims would take forever to decide whether or not they actually wanted the studio space. Noel said: "U2 were booked in with (producer) Rick Rubin.

"I was like, 'U2? They need to have a f***ing six-hour meeting (to discuss) whether to get tea or coffee in the rehearsal room! They are not coming in here any time in the next five years.'

"The guy from Abbey Road was like, 'I've got it block-booked for the exact time you want it.' We actually went down to Abbey Road with a bag of money and said, 'We can pay for the studio now!'"

Dig Out Your Soul is released on October 6 and before securing the Abbey Road studio Oasis borrowed guitarist Gem Archer's bedroom to rehearse in as pal Paul Weller was recording in their usual practice place.

But Noel admitted they had to rush through the initial recordings so they didn't disrupt Gem's family commitments.

He said: "We had to finish the tunes before Gem's kids got home from school. These demos were rushed and pretty sparse. No backing vocals, no acoustic guitars.

"I was looking at Gem, going, 'I'd have put trumpets on it but your kids were knocking at the door.'" Fans looking forward to the new release can expect a more "hypnotic, driving" sound.

Noel said: "I wanted music that had a groove, not following the traditional pattern of verse, chorus and middle eight.

"I wanted a sound that was more hypnotic and driving. Songs that draw you in."

There was no one available for comment at Abbey Road studios.

Gem Archer's Bedroom Served As Demo Studio

Oasis star Noel Gallagher had to rush through the initial recordings for the band's new album Dig Out Your Soul so he didn't disrupt guitarist Gem Archer's family time.

The songwriter couldn't use his regular rehearsal space because pal Paul Weller was recording there, so he decided to turn Archer's bedroom into a makeshift studio for a week.

He tells Mojo magazine, "We had to finish the tunes before Gem's kids got home from school.

"These demos were really rushed and they were pretty sparse. There were no backing vocals, no acoustic guitars.

"I was looking at Gem, going, 'I'd have put trumpets on it, but your kids were knocking at the door.'"

There's definitely something sweet about Gabriella Cilmi.

She’s even melted Liam Gallagher's heart of stone.

Liam might want to get a ticket for her first headline tour, which kicks off on October 2 in Birmingham.

Oasis Album Revealed

NME gets the first look at artwork and tracklisting.

Oasis have revealed the tracklisting and artwork for their new album exclusively to NME. 'Dig Out Your Soul' will be released on October 6 and will feature 11 songs.

The album was produced by Dave Sardy, who also worked on their last album 'Don't Believe The Truth', and will feature 11 songs.

'Dig Out Your Soul' will open with 'Bag It Up' which Noel Gallagher recently revealed was almost the title track until his girlfriend pointed out Geri Halliwell has a song of the same name. We're assured it's not a cover.

Other songs set to feature include comeback single 'The Shock Of The Lightning' (out September 29), 'The Nature Of Reality', the intriguingly titled , (Get Off Your) High Horse Lady' and 'Ain't Got Nothin'. An early demo version of the latter leaked in May, though none of the songs which appeared in that batch have made the final album.

Oasis have given the NME the artwork for their seventh album, which was created by London-based designer Julian House - who also designed the award-winning sleeve for Primal Scream's 'XTRMNTR' - after he heard the music.

A collage featuring clocks, a mushroom cloud, apples and solders, it implies Noel Gallagher has fulfilled the mission statement he set out for 'Dig Out Your Soul'.

"I really fancy doing a record where we just completely throw the kitchen sink at it," Noel told NME in 2007 as plans for the album were hatched. "We haven't done that since 'Be Here Now'... get a 100-piece orchestra and choirs and all that. I think since 'Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants' we've been trying to prove a point of just bass, drums, guitar and vocals and nothing fancy. But I kind of fancy making an absolutely f**king colossal album.

Steve White Discussing Alan White

From a new interview with Steve White offering some insight into Alan and Oasis:

ZANI – You’ve mentioned your Brother Alan, and as we know he played drums with Oasis for nearly 10 years. We had Brit Pop, in the mid 90s with acts like Oasis and Paul Weller at the top of this ‘tree’, which featured you and Alan in both bands respectively. Not only are you and Alan part of Pop history, but I bet your parents must have been the proudest parents in southeast London.

Steve White- They were and still are. When Oasis was added to the mix of my family, we would get the Daily Mirror ringing my mum up, trying to catch her out. The good thing, about the Oasis mania, was the fact that I was there for Alan. To make sure he made the right business decisions. To make sure that the accountants and managers didn’t get their hands on his money. I was really glad I was there, because I was able to guide him. Alan did 10 years with Oasis, and maybe it was the right time to move on.

ZANI –What actually happened between Alan and Oasis. Why was he asked to leave in 2004?

Steve White – There were some disputes about meetings. I wasn’t there so I couldn’t comment. What you would get would be a story from either side. I am sure they’ve all got their opinions, and I respect that. The bottom line is that Alan got a call four days before Christmas from ‘The Manager’, and he was told he was out of the band. And he hasn’t seen or heard from Noel or Liam since.

ZANI – That’s a bit sad, seeing he had been with them for many years.

Steve White – All Alan wanted, was to have a pint of Stella, and the guys to say what we want is to get Zak Starkey in, as we don’t think you’re right for us anymore. Alan would have had no problem with that, as nothing lasts forever.

But it was just the circumstances of the events which were shocking. They shocked me, and they hurt Alan.

ZANI – What is Alan doing now?

Steve White – He’s a property developer. The bottom line is, he played on records that sold over 27 million copies worldwide, as a fully paid up member of the band. He’s done very well.

ZANI – So the elder brother’s business advice paid off?

Steve White – Alan is doing all right, thank you. He would love to play again, but I think he was really hurt the way it was done, with Oasis. But he wasn’t the first musician that it had happened to.

But for someone like Liam, and Noel, who presents this image,” I am tough, I am hard, and I can take on anyone.” They couldn’t stand there, face to face, with Alan, I don’t like that.

Have The Chemical Brothers Remixed Oasis?

A version of a song rumoured to be a track destined for the forthcoming new Oasis album has leaked online.

The track, which you can hear by clicking here, is purported by various blogs to be a Chemical Brothers remix of a song named 'Falling Down'. However the identity of the remixers is not confirmed, and the likes of Primal Scream producer Jagz Kooner are also in the frame.

The song features Noel Gallagher on vocals, and has been praised by users of various Oasis fan forums.

NME.COM understands the band have been looking at remixing tracks from their new record, and this could be from those experiments.

The Manchester band are set to release their seventh album, 'Dig Out Your Soul', on October 6.

The Creation Documentary

Formed in 1983 by Alan McGee, Dick Green and Joe Foster, Creation forged a name for cult indie releases before throttling the zeitgeist with Primal Scream's 'Screamadelica' and Oasis. Highs? Lows? They're all here...

McGee named the label after 60s band The Creation, of which he was a very big fan. Enthused by the punk ethos and his successful club night in London, he and his business partners began releasing singles. When their second single, by The Jesus And Mary Chain, sold 50,000 copies, they unwittingly found themselves in the music business.

Creation's golden period in the late 80s saw key releases by Primal Scream, Teenage Fanclub and My Bloody Valentine. Great things followed, but the label was never quite the same after that.

Sessions for My Bloody Valentine's 'Loveless' almost bankrupted the label and lead to a deal with Sony. After that, Oasis were signed, albums were sold by the bucketload until Creation was finally dissolved in 1999.

Chemical Brothers Remix Of 'New' Oasis Song Leaks

A new Oasis song, purported to have been remixd by The Chemical Brothers, has leaked online.

‘Falling Down’ is understood to be one of the tracks from the bands forthcoming album ‘Dig Out Your Soul’. It's not clear whether this is the album version.

The song appeared on various websites on Friday (July 11th), hours before it was due to be premiered by a Canadian radio station.

The song has been praised by many fans, with one saying it proves that "the only true rock and roll band left are back”.

Others, however, have remained skeptical about the origin of the song.

Oasis’s new album is released on October 6th and will be preceded by the single ‘The Shock of Lightnening’, which is out on September 28th.

Mix Version Of New Oasis Track Leaks Early

A Chemical Bothers ( remix or 'mixed by' ) version of Oasis' new track Falling Down which will make its radio broadcast premiere this afternoon on Toronto's 102.1 The Edge has leaked early.

Catch the tune this afternoon on Bookies show.

From The Edge Website earlier today

A new song from OASIS called 'Falling Down' will premiere at 5:00pm this afternoon with Bookie. It was mixed by the Chemical Bros. The label tells us it's NOT the first single from the new album 'Dig Out Your Soul' (in stores October 7th), that's 'The Shock Of The Lightning' which we'll debut that Friday August 15th.

Lyrics (thanks to Vixen at Stoptheclcks.org)

A setting sun that blows my mind
Is falling down on all that I've ever known
Time to kiss the world goodbye
Falling down on all that I've ever known
Is all that I've ever known.
Is all that I've ever known.
Is all that

Cry (die?) and scream... it makes no sound
Calling out to all that I've ever known
Here am I, lost and found
Calling out to all
A setting sun
That blows my mind
Time to kiss the world goodbye

We live a dying dream
If you know what I mean
A setting sun that blows my mind
Now we'll kiss the world goodbye

3. Waiting for the Rapture
4.The Shock of the Lightning
5. I'm Outta Time
6. (Get Off Your) High Horse Lady
7. Falling Down
8. To be Where There's Life
9. Ain't Got Nothin'
10. The Nature of Reality
11. Soldier On

Link : http://www.nrj.fr/music/news/0/oasis-tracklisting-nouvel-album-109109.html (has been removed)

After an absence of three years, the band from Manchester presents its seventh album. The English press has not lied by presenting the latest Oasis as an excellent album.

Dig Out Your Soul is a treasure trove of music and is undoubtedly the best studio album of the duo. Liam Gallagher said would compose songs out of the usual construction and moving towards a new sound. It's done!

The progression of pieces is very consistent. From the raw energy of the first titles to the more sophisticated pieces of the end, the auditor discovers new sounds by Oasis stages as if the group wanted to guide him throughout the hearing. The Gallagher brothers put aside their sound British pop music to focus on a sound much more rock, sometimes folk. And it's very heavy, especially the track (Get Off Your) High Horse Lady.

Never in excess, the rockers introduce arrangements of all kinds with the precision of a goldsmith. In addition, the drumming holds a prominent place in pieces and provides real effectiveness in securities.

The fans like refractory find themselves on an album of great quality.

Rock’s Most Anthemic Bands?

01. U2 -- If the word anthemic disappeared, U2-ish would be a good replacement. Bono always sounds like he's singing mass, the Edge's guitar rings like the trumpets at Jericho, and Larry Mullen's rhythmic stiffness is a virtue. Adam Clayton? He, uh, always looks stylish.
Signature anthem: "Pride (In the Name of Love)"

02. The Clash -- Any band dubbed "the only band that matters" has got to have some serious anthemic power. Punk rock is often associated with a kind of nihilism, but the Clash sounded like their hearts might explode from caring so much.
Signature anthem: "Death Or Glory"

03. The Who -- I'm thinking of the Who's Next stadium rock version of the band more than the early modfathers. Pete Townshend's power chords and Keith Moon's roiling drum fills were, and are, key touchstones for any band wanting to sound bigger than life.
Signature anthem: "Baba O' Riley"

04. The Arcade Fire -- Win Butler and Co. are more dour than the other bands on this list, but even when these guys are singing about the apocalypse, their rag-tag widescreen epics make me hope they put out a few more albums before the end comes.
Signature anthem: "Wake Up"

05. Thin Lizzy -- Too often thought of as a one-, or maybe two-hit wonder (if you count "Jailbreak" along with "The Boys Are Back In Town"), Phil Lynott's band fused streetwise swagger with mythology-infused poetry and a saber-rattling twin guitar attack.
Signature anthem: "Roisin Dubh (Black Rose): A Rock Legend"

06. The Hold Steady -- Craig Finn's finely wrought lyrics turn hardscrabble hardcore kids into heroes. Tad Kubler's soaring guitar solos and Franz Nikolay's baroque keyboard flourishes do the same for their band.
Signature anthem: "How A Resurrection Really Feels"

07. The Waterboys -- For a hot minute back in the '80s, the Waterboys were at the forefront of a wave of big sounding UK acts like Simple Minds and Big Country. But they were the best, and their densely detailed productions and stirring folkish melodies shouldn't be forgotten.
Signature anthem: "This Is The Sea"

08. The Killers -- Maybe the most self-conscious of all the bands here. They get a lot of grief for being so obvious about their influences (U2, Springsteen), but writing anthems ain't for the humble hearted.
Signature anthem: "All These Things That I've Done"

09. Oasis -- For a short time, Noel Gallagher's huge guitar sound and his brother Liam's sneering swagger had this band competing for the title of "world's biggest." They've since slipped, but their rip-roaring sound has never shrunk.
Signature anthem: "Live Forever"

10. Bruce Springsteen -- A no-brainer. The Boss has written a handful of songs that a lot of Americans--and everyone in New Jersey--would gladly adopt as a new national anthem.
Signature anthem: "Born To Run"

Russell Brand Defends Noel Gallagher

"I think that Noel has been treated very badly, I don't think he said anything. He came on my radio show the other day and all he would talk about was Jay-Z and 99 Problems But A B**** Ain't One," he said.

Ever the joker, Russell added: "That's all he cares about, Jay-Z. Noel Gallagher was put on this earth to appreciate the music of Jay-Z and anyone who said otherwise is a lunatic."

He also claimed he thought that Jay-Z's Wonderwall cover was better than the original.

"I think it was better than the Oasis cover of Wonderwall, I'd like to see Oasis do 99 Problems But B**** Ain't One - then we'd have some sort of competition," the cheeky chappie said.

On This Day In Oasis History...

"D'You Know What I Mean?" is a song by British rock band Oasis. And was realesed on 7 July 1997.

It was the first single from their third album Be Here Now. In the UK, its highest chart position was #1. The song was written by Noel Gallagher.

At the time "D'You Know What I Mean" was released, Oasis were at the height of their fame, and as a result, the single, along with the album, was highly anticipated. Upon its release it was critically and commercially successful, but as was the case with Be Here Now, once the hype died down, the single was seen as bloated and indulgent, embellished with lyrics and guitar parts played backwards and strange morse code and airplane sound effects. All Music Guide labelled it "Oasis' first boring single".

The guitar chords on both the verse and the chorus are essentially the same as the chords used for the verse in the Oasis single "Wonderwall" (Em7/G/Dsus4/Asus).

The song also shows more of Noel's influences. While the lyrics may seem inane and banal, reference are included to Bob Dylan ("Blood on the tracks and it must be mine"), and The Beatles ("Fool on the hill and I feel fine"), and even their own earlier work ("Don't look back cos you know what you may see"). The song also features a drum loop from N.W.A.

The Morse code in the background translates to include such sayings as "Bugger All", "Pork Pies" and "Strawberry Fields Forever."

However, despite the critical coldness to the A-side, one of the B-sides, "Stay Young", has become a popular Oasis song, so much so that fans voted it onto the B-sides collection The Masterplan - one of only two B-sides from the Be Here Now period which made the album. The song was originally intended to be the "Digsy's Dinner" of Be Here Now (the lighthearted novelty track, such as "Digsy's Dinner" on Definitely Maybe and "She's Electric" on (What's the Story) Morning Glory?), until Noel set it aside in favour of "Magic Pie". Gallagher claims not to be particularly fond of the track.

In an interview with the BBC for their documentary Seven Ages of Rock, Gallagher said of the song, "Its eight and a half minutes, the first single, the drums havent fuckin' come in for two minutes- its all feedback!". He also says that he expected someone to ask them to edit the introduction to the song down, but such was their status in Britain at the time, nobody did. They even performed the song on Top of the Pops, still playing most of the lengthy introduction.

Cover Information

The single cover photograph, by Michael Spencer Jones and directed by Brian Cannon of Microdot, was taken in front of the 'Blind Steps', a staircase in Wigan so called because they run past the Blind Workshop, which can be seen to the left of the shot. The steps can still be found on Darlington Street.

The shoot was shrouded in secrecy to protect mass media coverage, but newspaper The Wigan Evening Post got exclusive rights to cover the event and subsequently sold the photos to the Daily Mirror. At a lunchtime break, Liam Gallagher and sleeve designer Brian Cannon enjoyed a pint of beer in the nearby Crispin Arms pub by Birkett Bank.

Noel Gallagher: 'Oasis Will Never Do A Radiohead'

Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher says it's unlikely that the band will ever follow Radiohead by allowing fans to name what price they pay for their album.

“I wouldn’t have thought so. That’s not our bag,” he told the BBC.

“I didn’t spend a year in the most expensive studio in England, with the most expensive producer in America, and the most expensive graphic designer in London to then give it away. Fuck that.”

Radiohead shocked the music industry last October by ignoring traditional release methods with their latest album 'In Rainbows'.

Fans were allowed to pay anything from 1p to £100 for the album.

Despite saying that Oasis would never follow Radiohead's example, Gallagher did praise the band for the “marketing” methods they used to sell the record.

“To be honest, to me it looked like marketing. Y’know? A great way of getting a load of marketing for free really, but good for them. That’s what they do, they’re rebels and outsiders,” he said.

Oasis release their new album 'Dig Out Your Soul' on October 6th. It will be preceded by the single 'The Shock Of Lightening' on September 28th.

Goldenballs David Beckham and Oasis singer Noel Gallagher are to become stars of a new internet site.

Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller has spent a year working on the project with former Soccer AM host Tim Lovejoy.

On Saturday they launched Channelbee.com with Tim fronting the site from a purpose-built London studio.

Along with a daily show, there will be video sketches, a dating show, concerts with bands and anecdotes and interviews which web surfers can email to friends.

Tim, 40, who is fronting the site, is confident it will be a success - particularly with youngsters - as it is completely free to view.

He told the Mirror: "David Beckham and Noel Gallagher have said they are going to do something with us.

"The technology means we can film something and have it up in half a day."

Noel Gallagher Takes It On The Chin

Noel Gallagher has dismissed disliking Jay-Z and defended his comments about the rapper headlining Glastonbury.

The 41-year-old music legend stuck up for his freedom of speech at yesterday’s O2 Silver Clef awards in London.

The axeman has been widely quoted as saying hip-hop had no place at the Worthy Farm festie.

Insisting his comments had been taken out of context, Noel said: “I was making a comment about ticket sales. That was my opinion on it and that’s the end of it.

“Then it got picked up by the Church Of England brigade and the broadsheets – bulls***.

“For the record, I like Jay-Z – that’s my opinion.

“But you know I got asked a question about ticket sales. I should have gone along like one of those s***bag pop stars that says everything is amazing.

“It’s been amazing for our record sales though.” Jay-Z, 38, used video footage of Noel and mimed along to the Oasis hit Wonderwall when he played the festival.

The track is now back in the charts.

Oasis collected the O2 Silver Clef award at the event at the Hilton in Park Lane to raise money and awareness of Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy.

Boxing wonder Ricky Hatton presented Oasis with their gong, and in tune with his new-found mission of using a certain word, Noel branded him “amazing”.

He said: “When you see him in his dressing room before a fight listening to Morning Glory then that really is amazing.”

Manchester City fan Ricky, 34, said: “Along with my family and my football team Oasis are one of my three big loves.

Presenting an award to them was a dream come true.

“I love them because they’re working class lads from a council estate in Manchester.

“I train to their music and always sing Wonderwall on the karaoke.”
