Gallery: Liam Gallagher Playing Football With Legendary Players In Italy

Former Oasis star Liam Gallagher is used to playing in front of stadium-sized crowds, but his trademark sweary swagger is not quite suited to a left back role in top-class football.

But for the Italian equivalent of Soccer Aid on Tuesday night, that was exactly where the Definitely, Maybe singer was, tucked in behind legendary Czech Republic winger Pavel Nedved at the Juventus Stadium.

Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero and their manager who has led them to Saturday's Champions League final, Massimiliano Allegri, were also part of a side that took on an XI of Italian musicians for charity.

Forming part of a star-studden Wonderwall of players for the pre-match national anthem, Gallagher looked delighted to be taking part alongside Allegri.

But after just 20 minutes the 42-year-old succumbed to The Importance of Being Idle and was substituted.

And Gallagher admitted that he did not quite have the stamina to keep up with the likes of Champions League winners Nedved and Del Piero.

'They have something like this but I never get invited to it,' he said. 'Probably because I’m rubbish. They have a Soccer Aid thing, yeah.'

Liam Gallagher Wanted Alessandro Del Piero To Join Manchester City

New Sydney FC striker Alessandro Del Piero has revealed that he rejected pleas from Oasis founder and Manchester City fanatic Liam Gallagher to join the reigning Premier League champions.

Del Piero arrived in Sydney on Sunday to begin a two-year contract worth a reported $4 million with the Sky Blues. The Juventus and Italy legend's salary makes him the best paid footballer of any code to have played in Australia.

"Yeah, he (Gallagher) told me a lot of times about City, and the dream for him is me with a jersey of City," Del Piero told Fox Sports in an in-depth interview on Monday. "But, it’s a dream. Now the reality is me with a Sydney FC jersey."

Del Piero, who scored 314 goals in a club record 708 games with Juventus and won six Serie A titles, also turned down offers from Swiss club Sion FC and English Premier League giants Liverpool to sign on the dotted line with Sydney FC.

He has played 91 games for Italy and scored 27 goals, including the second of the Azzurri's two goals in their 2006 World Cup final win over Germany.

Noel Gallagher: I Was Italy's Lucky Mascot At World Cup 2006

Former Oasis man also reveals 'secret' about New Order's 'World In Motion'

Noel Gallagher has claimed he was a lucky mascot for Italy during their successful FIFA World Cup campaign in 2006.

Discussing his memories of the tournament on BBC's Football Focus programme, the former Oasis man revealed Azzurri player Alessandro Del Piero - a friend of Gallagher - believed he was a lucky charm for the side at the tournament.

The superstition started when Del Piero scored the winner for Italy in the semi-final of the tournament against Germany and ran towards Gallagher to celebrate.

"I was sat beside his wife. His wife reckons he was coming over to blow kisses at her, but what's actually happened is he's seen me and his wife happened to be there," Gallagher joked.

"He then gets it in his head that I'm his lucky mascot, so he said: 'You'll have to come to the final'. He made me wear the same clothes," he added.

Gallagher also claimed that New Order's 'World In Motion' - released to coincide with the 1990 World Cup - wasn't originally supposed to be a football song.

"They didn't write it specifically for that, I know for a fact it was just a song they had lying round and added a few words to," he said.

"I don't care what anybody says, the New Order song isn't really a World Cup song."

The full interview with Gallagher can be viewed on the BBC Sport website.
