Liam Gallagher Loves Lionel Richie's Hello

Liam Gallagher loves Lionel Richie's 'Hello' so much, he would choose the track to take with him on a desert island.

Liam Gallagher could listen to 'Hello' by Lionel Richie on repeat.

The 'Flick of the Finger' singer said if he was stuck on desert island with only one record he'd choose the smooth R&B vocalist's classic 1984 single, particularly for its irony towards the imaginary scenario.

Speaking to Music Unlimited, the music streaming service from Sony Entertainment Network, Liam said: "Lionel Richie, is it me you're looking for? 'Hello' Do you not get it?"

While he may like easy listening at home, Liam's band Beady Eye's latest album, 'BE' is anything but, after the introduction of experimental producer Dave Sitek.

The 40-year-old rocker credits the musician for helping the band break boundaries and exploring unseen places.

Liam added: "Dave got involved and it all went a bit cosmic, we got that s**t in us and he sorta just championed it. He's a good producer; a good producer for me is someone that doesn't just soft talk the band and tell them what they want to hear.

"We're the musicians, we make the records and there's certain places we can't go, and he went there."

Liam Gallagher Says Beady Eye's New Album Is 70% Rock 'N' Roll And 30% Weird Sh*t

Beady Eye's new album is ''30 per cent weird s**t''.

The 'Flick of the Finger' band have made much of the experimenting they did in the studio for their second album, 'BE', but singer Liam Gallagher promises they have abandoned their rock roots completely.

He told NME magazine: ''Seventy per cent rock 'n' roll and 30 per cent weird s**t and I'll be a happy man.''

Speaking about 'Second Bite of the Apple', the album's first single, Liam added: ''This is one where [producer Dave Sitek] said, 'Let's go f***ing out there'. We were like, 'We like this style, it's not too far out the box, we can do this'.''

Liam also said the group won't be playing ''so much stuff'' off Beady Eye's first album, 'Different Gear Still Speeding' in their live sets, and no more than two songs by his former band, Oasis, as he doesn't want to live in the past.

He explained: ''We'll keep it at two because there's too many people loitering in the past. We can't be doing 10 of them in the set because we're not Oasis. [Brother and former Oasis bandmate] Noel does quite a bit but that's his f***ing thing: Splitting up Oasis then putting half the f***ing songs in your f***ing set, its schizophrenic.

''If you want to lay f***ing Oasis songs put the band back together and stop being a f***ing gobs***e. But he hasn't got the balls to do [his band] High Flying Birds on his own, that's just the nature of the man.'

Liam Gallagher: 'I Didn't Want To Call New Beady Eye Album 'BE''

Liam Gallagher has revealed that the title of the forthcoming Beady Eye album – 'BE' – was not his first choice.

The former Oasis singer, speaking to NME in the new issue on newsstands now and available digitally, instead said he instead wanted to title the album 'Universal Gleam' but was outvoted by his band and label.

"[The title] is nothing to do with me," Liam said. "I wanted to call it 'Universal Gleam'. But at Columbia [their record label], a lot of people got their knickers in a twist, putting out a record called 'Universal Gleam' when we're not on [the label] Universal. So yeah, it's 'BE'. 'BE'. 'BE' who you are. 'BE' whatever you fucking want to be. 'BE'. Fucking bumble-'BE'. I find that a bit more hippy-ish than fucking 'Universal Gleam'.

Asked to explain what, exactly, 'Universal Gleam' means, Gallagher explained: "'Universal Gleam' was when John [Lennon] and George [Harrison] met up with [Beatles publicist] Derek Taylor when Brian Epstein died. They went to meet him and he just said that they had a universal gleam about them. I wanted to call it that, but other people were going, 'No no no', so I went, 'Look, call it what you fucking want.'"

Beady Eye this week (April 29) unveiled their brand new single 'Second Bite Of The Apple', which is taken from 'BE'. The album, which was produced by Dave Sitek, is due for release on June 10.

Click above to listen to the song, which comes from the Liam Gallagher fronted band's second album, 'BE', which will be released on June 10. Beady Eye will play live at Manchester Ritz on June 19 before heading to London for a show at Camden Centre on June 20. The short stint will then come to a close in Glasgow at the ABC on June 22. Tickets were only made available to fans who pre-ordered the new album.

Cocksure Liam Gallagher reckons Beady Eye are “ready for battle and tickling people” ahead of new album BE.

After previewing psychedlic first single Second Bite of the Apple on Radio 1, Liam, 40, explained their new spacious sound.

He said: “I wanted to sound like I sound around the house with a guitar, it’s like being bollock naked.”

Producer Dave Sitek, 40, was instrumental in making the record. Liam explained: “His music was blaring, I love it loud. All the other producers we worked with are a bit precious.

“In fact he even hired in more speakers.”

Song By Song Review Of Beady Eye's Album BE

Taken from the current issue of Q that features an interview with the band.

1. Flick of the Finger

A dramatically altered Beady: urgent Velvet Underground beat, blaring trumpets, fuzzy guitars and Liam proclaiming, "the future gets written today". The central riff's from a 2004 Liam/Gem demo called Velvet Building, because "it sounded like the Velvets, and it kept building."

2. Soul Love

The anti-Wonderwall, as Liam's loved-up strum is subjected to terrifying electronics from producer Dave Sitek.

Liam: The whole song fits with the end of 2001: A Space Odyssey, with the baby going to the moon. We might have to just whack it on the internet - I'm up for getting arrested, or sued.

Soul Love was remodelled beneath a giant screen showing 2001: A Space Odyssey, Sitek says he didn't want to change its acoustic flavour

Sitek: But I thought, What if the guitar belonged to an astronaut who's never coming back? He's on the spaceship strumming, as his home planet get's smaller through the window. So he underlaid it with gently ominous atmospherics.

Sitek: I was certain the band would say, Cut this shit out, but Liam listens to it at full volume and says, Whoever tries to cut out that ending is a fucking copper.

3. Face the Crowd

A terrific, gamboling riff in an odd time signature.

Liam: Andy always comes up with the fucking bangers, which is weird.

Andy: It's about the bravado of being in a band. I'm pretty reserved, but when you're on stage you've got to own it.

4. Second Bite of the Apple

A bassline like Joe Jackson's It's Different For Girls amid more fab brass and un-Oasis guitar effects. "The word is up, if you're tough enough," yowls Liam, Scott Walker's The Old Man's Back Again (from Scott 4) was an in-studio inspiration.

5. Soon Come Tomorrow

"What kind of love burns holes in your heart?", wonders Liam, among worried acoustics, bewildering synths and a contrastingly hot way-wah guitar solo.

Andy: It's pretty personal, about something that happened to me and Shiarra.

6. Iz Rite

Liam: It's like The Beatles on ecstasy, like a George Harrison-y Hare Krishna thing. Gem wrote it - I'm not saying it's fucking girly or anything, but he's definitely in touch with his feminine side at the moment.

7. I'm Just Saying

Andy: My gift to the Morning Glory fans - us doing what we do very well.
Super catchy and, yes, Oasis-y, but with that value-added, future-now Sitek zing.

8. Don't Brother Me

Liam: It's about a brother, but I do have two - and they're both fucking idiots.

Step forward eldest brother Paul Gallagher. Another Liam acoustic strum, wich launches off into the deepest, darkest Sitekville on hypnotic synths and a sitar-y clang.

9. Shine A Light

Tremendous opening riff in the style of The Stooges circa 1969 propels this way-out-there rocker with added backwards guitar. The rhythm came from a jam over Captain Beefheart's Mirror Man. Not even remotely Dadrock.

10. Ballroom Figured

First recorded with full band, but when it came to Liam to overdub his voice, producer Sitek stripped it back to just acoustic guitar.

Gem: It sounded amazing, so we kept it like that. That's production too- taking everything off.

11. Start Anew

Another acoustic track with Liam's sweetest vocal ever.

Andy: Dave coaxed the Neil Young solo out of me, and it spins into an ending that doesn't quite resolve. We never push the epic button too hard.

Thanks to Mr. Sifter

Liam Gallagher Wants £30million For An Oasis Reunion

Liam Gallagher is open to an Oasis reunion.

But it would take a Manchester City-size transfer fee to secure the deal.

The singer is currently on the promo trail with Beady Eye for new album BE.

Asked about making up with and performing alongside brother Noel, he said: “Listen, it’ll happen when it happens, but it ain’t a f***ing game — it’s the real deal.

“I read a lot of people going, ‘Oh, it’s just a blag, innit? So they can get some more noughts on their big f***ing comeback.’

“But I’m still me and he’s gonna be him.

“I ain’t changing for a million f***ing pounds... I might do it for £30million.”

Liam’s clearly exaggerating the final fee but the band would definitely make some serious cash if they returned to the stage.

It’s unlikely any reunion will happen for a few years given the success of Noel’s solo career and Liam having a new Beady Eye album to promote.

He’s ditched his parka jacket on the cover of the new issue of Q out on Tuesday next week, as a sign that the band have changed their sound for the second album.

He told the mag: “People didn’t like the first one. So we couldn’t do that again.

Jumpin’ Jack Flash and Lennon gear — that’s my thing. I could do that all day long but people don’t want that, so we had to do summat.”

That “summat” included drafting in producer Dave Sitek, who had the band watching 2001: A Space Odyssey in the studio. Liam says he’s put in serious effort on the new record, admitting he cares so much about music that it could one day kill him.

He said: “I won’t die of a drug overdose or a f***ing drinking habit.

“I’ll die of living and breathing and being in a band.

“It won’t be over snorting a line off someone’s head or drinking a daft drink. It’ll be because I’m into it too much. I’ll die of caring too much.”

According to Q, Sitek also had the band burning sage leaves before recording to “ward off evil spirits”.

Liam’s facial expression would have been a sight when that came up.
Like the face made when catching a whiff of what a bear might leave in the woods.

Beady Eye Announce Album Details

Beady Eye have announced their new album will be called BE and is out June 10.

Liam Gallagher's band's second album was recorded in London with producer Dave Sitek (TV on the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs).

The frontman has previously admitted the follow up to Different Gear Still Speeding will be more experimental and we are now told BE was created using a mixture of  'Protools, cassette tapes, samplers, recorded conversation, iphone apps and unusual instrumentation'.

"Working with Sitek just opened something up in us. He's without a doubt the best producer I've ever worked with, a real outlaw - he doesn't give a fuck, no rules," Liam Gallagher commented.

"We had a new found focus when we were writing it - we really got our heads down and got our shit together - clear heads, none of that crap from the 90s. It feels like a really special record for us."

A new Beady Eye track called Flick of The Finger leaked online earlier this week after being played on US radio.

The track, from BE, is not going to be a single.

The New Beady Eye Album Is Called...

Beady Eye didn’t spend too long coming up with their new album title.

Liam Gallagher and the boys have called their second release BE.

Out on June 10, it is more experimental than their debut thanks to Yeah Yeah Yeahs and TV On The Radio producer Dave Sitek.

Liam said: “Working with Sitek just opened something up in us.

“He’s without a doubt the best producer I’ve ever worked with, a real outlaw.

“He doesn’t give a f***, no rules. We had a new-found focus when we were writing it. We got our heads down and got our s**t together – clear heads.

“None of that crap from the 90s. It feels like a really special record for us.”

Liam Gallagher Uses Sound Of iPhone Apps To Create New Beady Eye Album

Liam Gallagher says he’s leaving the 90s behind him at long last after revealing he used the sound of people’s conversations and iPhone apps to make his band Beady Eye’s forthcoming album.

Talking about the follow up to 2011’s Different Gear, Still Speeding, the former Oasis singer said he called on London with cult producer Dave Sitek to help his band reinvent themselves.

‘He’s without a doubt the best producer i’ve ever worked with, a real outlaw – he doesn’t give a f***, no rules,’ Gallagher said of Sitek.

The 40-year-old frontman added: ‘We had a new found focus when we were writing it – we really got our heads down and got our s*** together – clear heads, none of that crap from the 90s. It feels like a really special record for us.’

The outspoken frontman previously set the bar high for his band’s success, when he said: ‘F*** being as big as Oasis. I want to be bigger than The Beatles, man.’

The first single from the album will be track ‘Flick of the Finger’ before the album is released on June 10.

Beady Eye To Premiere New Single Next Month

Beady Eye will play the first song from their forthcoming second album on April 15, it has been confirmed.

A spokesperson for Liam Gallagher's band tells NME that the song will be played on Zane Lowe's Radio 1 show on the Monday night after fans began speculating that the song would receive its premiere as soon as next week.

Beady Eye have recorded their new album with producer and TV On The Radio member Dave Sitek. Discussing the band's new album earlier this year Gallagher said: "I hate the word 'experimenting', but we are definitely experimenting. In five words, it's 'majestic', 'imperial', 'out there' and, er, what was the other one? Oh yeah, 'heavy'." A new track was played at London club night This Feeling earlier this month when Beady Eye guitarist Andy Bell was DJing.

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that Beady Eye will perform at this year's Summer Sonic Festival in Tokyo and Osaka. The festival is headlined by Muse and Metallica and takes place between August 10-11. Linkin Park, MIA, The Smashing Pumkins, Fall Out Boy, Two Door Cinema Club and The Weeknd will also perform across the two day event.

Beady Eye released their debut LP, 'Different Gear, Still Speeding', in February 2011. The album peaked at Number Three on the UK albums chart and spawned the Top 40 hit 'The Roller'.

In this weeks NME, Beady Eye producer Dave Sitek admits that he’d never heard of Oasis.

Gem Archer On Working With Dave Sitek And More

Beady Eye's Gem Archer has been speaking about working with producer Dave Sitek on the bands new album.

He told the NME "I didn't know whether he was going to build it up bit by bit: bass drum, drum track, drum machine, whatever. But no: it's like we're getting live takes down, but then he'll say stuff: 'It needs to be more this, it needs to be more that'. You know really getting in there. And this coming from a guy who apparently hasn't miked up a guitar amp for 10 years!"

Beady Eye, are working with the TV On The Radio musician on a new album, and It's fascinating them as they are making it.

Gem explained: "It's fascinating us as were making it. There are sounds there that we would never come up with. And I'm sure there are sounds there that he's never had to manipulate before, that he's never had his hands on. There's a real tug daily, because both of us are pushing each other. Sometimes it'll just go out there."

Liam Gallagher: Dave Sitek Is A Musical 'Outlaw'

Liam Gallagher thinks Dave Sitek is a musical ''outlaw''.

The singer's band, Beady Eye, are working with the TV On The Radio musician on a new album and Liam, 40, is impressed at how fearless the producer is.

Liam explained: ''I don't know f**k all about [Dave], I didn't want to know anything about him, I just wanted to know he was up for it. I'm not blowing smoke up his arse... He's the best producer I've ever worked with, ever.

''His eyes are wide open, he's got no fear. We feel like a f***ing new band. He's out there, man. To me, he's a f***ing outlaw. He's got no fear, man, and he's right up for ripping everything into pieces and experimenting.''

Beady Eye - which also includes Chris Sharrock, Gem Archer and Andy Bell - plan to take their music to a new level on their second album and while established fans may be surprised by the changes in sound, Liam's only aim is to make a ''great record''.

He added to NME magazine: ''Well, we haven't got many [fans] to lose anyway, so it doesn't matter! And that's not me dissing fans: I do what I want for everyone, not just them. If we pick 'em up, we pick 'em up. If we lose 'em, we lose 'em. That's not the point.

''That's not what I'm doing it for. I'm doing it do make a f**king great record, so that I can sleep at night. Maybe the average Joe might go, 'Ohhh, no'. People don't like f***ing change. I don't like f***ing change! But you gotta do it sometimes.''

Liam Gallagher Says Beady Eye Have Gone For The Full Pink Floyd Trip On New Album

In Oasis's heyday a call going out to a brass band to join a studio session would have been a sign the drug threshold had been reached.

But Liam Gallagher insists his new band Beady Eye are willing to do things a bit differently on their second album in a quest for more rock ’n’ roll success.

Last week he had a pop at Mumford & Sons for looking like they might have nits — but the brass section isn’t a sign he’s joining a colliery band.

Speaking at the launch of his new fashion range for Pretty Green, he said: “We’ve gone for the full Pink Floyd trip, man.

“There’s the psychedelic stuff and then the rock ’n’ roll bangers.

“Our producer Dave called up our manager and told him to get a brass band round sharpish one day.

“If it makes it a better record, I’m having it man. I’m buzzing for it. It’s going to blow people’s minds.”

It was a brave move getting Dave Sitek on board. He’s in a band called TV On The Radio and produced Foals and Yeah Yeah Yeahs records.

They are the kind of characters you might expect to be mingling with the Derek Zoolander fashion crowd with ironic facial hair.

But Liam and his team have done the business slipping into the fashion world over the last four or five years — and they are cashing in.

Pretty Green unveiled the new face of their brand, Jesse Wood, the guitarist son of Rolling Stone Ronnie.

He’s a top bloke and a great shout for the brand. He brought his heavily preggers missus Fearne Cotton along, but they did the back door shuffle when her feet couldn’t take any more.

Inbetweeners hero James Buckley was in his element, too.

The actor, who owns so much he must keep Liam’s label ticking over, joked that he was trying to steal some threads. He tweeted: “Tried to walk out with those suit jackets.”

Speaking about being newly married to Scottish girlfriend CLAIR MEEK, he said: “My father-in-law came over to me at the wedding and said, ‘Don’t you ever be doing a Scottish accent in any films now, you hear me?’ I got the message loud and clear.”

Kasabian’s Tom Meighan was out for the night too. And being out for the night, he’s probably still going as you read this.

More On The New Beady Eye Album

A few quotes about the new Beady Eye album, that I typed up from the current issue of Mojo.

Liam Gallagher: "It feels like a really special album, You know when you normally go through a door. Errr, I'm not really sure about that... Well, we've f*cking booted the door of the hinges. We've steamed in... I hate the word experimenting, but we are definitely experimenting."

Gem Archer: "We've had a few mates in, there's been the sound of jaws dropping."

Liam Gallagher "We tend to work 12 to 12. Maybe have a drink at the weekend. But theres a lot of sage being burnt. keep out them evil spirits. That's Dave - you know what Americans are like. Scaredy cats aren't they? it smells nice though.

Gem Archer: "It's broader, wider, deeper. It's not stripped-down rock 'n' roll, that's for sure. The constant is Liam's voice and he's truly on form. He sounding outrageous."

Producer Dave Sitek on Liam's voice: "It's unreal. When you can just turn on a microphone and do nothing to the vocals and you're like, that sounds like a goddam record! It's one of those. It's rock band instrumentation, but it's used in a different way. There's a lot of slowed-down and sped-up and outer space. It's trippy. The Strength of the songs is so high that we got to be real playfull."

The album features some unusual instrumentation - including celeste, plus cymbals played with a violin bow.

Liam Gallagher On The New Beady Eye Album

Liam Gallagher is abandoning Britpop on the next Beady Eye album. The former Oasis man has been working with TV On The Radio and Yeah Yeah Yeahs producer DAVE Dave Sitek.

He said: “I hate the word ‘experimenting’, but we are definitely experimenting “In five words, it’s ‘majestic’, ‘imperial’, ‘out there’ and, er, what was the other one? Oh yeah, ‘heavy’. “It’s different to the first. It’s been heads down, none of that nonsense from the Nineties. We’ve got our s*** together.”

Liam’s in bullish mood about his band’s second release, which is due out next year. He added: “It feels like a really special album. You know when you normally go through a door and go, ‘Er, I’m not really sure about that’. “Well, we’ve f***ing booted the door off the hinges.”
