Alan McGee And Pete MacLeod In Talks To Make Sweet Music

Scottish singer / songwriter Pete MacLeod, seems set for even greater success on the back of his recent tour in Hamburg with gigs across the UK's 02 venues in  the coming months.

The musician and his work have long been admired by Alan McGee, who famously founded Creation records and now appears to be itching to set up another label, as Pete explains:

"Alan and I had been talking all week about him getting back into  the music business and starting another label, and I could tell he really had that fire in his belly again.

"We've talked about it before but he's told me his intentions are to get me signed to his new venture - I can't say much more than that at the moment but I do know that Alan won't be calling it Creation. I broke the news on twitter about us planning to work together and go back into the music business and it was almost instantly picked up by the press."

In the meantime, Pete is in the process off signing a single deal with a German label. Something that Alan McGee fully endorses in a recent email to Pete:

"Whatever form my new record company will take I can say I can't see it being called Creation.

"In the meantime, work with this dude and if you need me to come over and DJ the launch for single I am in as long term I want to work with you when we know what we are inventing as a business model."

It's good news for Pete following a year of turmoil while his father battled cancer. Pete had returned to Scotland when he heard the news and wrote 'Rolling Stone' for his dad who had inspired so much of his music. The single was sold as a way to raise money and awareness for Cancer Research UK; it was named BBC Radio Scotland single of the month by Janice Forsyth and entered into Q magazine's top 50 downloads of the month.

Sadly, Pete's dad lost his brave battle with the disease in June, but Pete has no doubt that his father's influence and guidance will live on in the form of his music for many years to come.

"My dad always believed in my music and never stopped encouraging me to write and play the music I love. While I'm sorry that he won't see this next stage in my career, I know he'll always be with me and that's what keeps me going."

Former Oasis Star Bonehead On Playing Special Gig With Pete MacLeod

Former Oasis rocker Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs has been tempted out of retirement to play a special gig in Scotland with singer-songwriter Pete MacLeod.

Bonehead, who left Oasis at the height of their fame in 1999, teams up with Pete for the Scot’s hometown concert at Coatbridge’s Soundwave studios on Saturday, February 25 — with Alan McGee as DJ.

The pals’ act came about after McGee suggested Bonehead check out Pete’s songs on MySpace. Bonehead, 46, recalled: “I’ve known Pete a few years. He is a friend of Alan McGee’s.

“Alan said he knew this singer-songwriter from Scotland that I would like. I checked Pete’s MySpace page and really liked what I heard.

“We ended up doing a tour together and it was a couple of the best weeks of my life. I really enjoyed it.”

Oasis’s former rhythm guitarist can’t wait for the gig, despite having played massive shows with Oasis and enjoying million-selling albums starting with 1994’s Definitely Maybe.

“With Pete it is a lot more intimate,” Bonehead explained. “It is just two guitars and one voice in front of a smaller crowd. I’m not planning on touring the world any more and it takes somebody a bit special to make me pick up the guitar and get on stage. Pete is a great person, great fun to be with and really intelligent. I love him. His songs are special.”

Pete, 33, added: “I grew up listening to a lot of bands Alan had signed and I looked up to him. I sent him a couple of songs and eventually met him in Los Angeles. We struck up a friendship. There are very few people I would take advice from because I am quite headstrong. I believe in my music and Alan does mentor me. I respect what he says. We talk a lot on the phone and it’s good to see Alan believes in me.

“I mentioned Bonehead’s name. Alan got in touch with him and that resulted in him listening to my songs. We struck up a friendship. We met in Manchester and rehearsed the songs. They sounded great and things took off from there.”

Oasis split in 2009. But Bonehead believes they should have called it a day immediately after two back-to-back sell-out shows at Knebworth in 1996.
More than 300,000 fans caught the massive outdoor shows after more than 2.6million people applied for tickets.

He said: “I didn’t walk out of Oasis. I drove out in the car. We had reached the heights, but I wasn’t enjoying it. The fun had gone. The more I thought about it, the more I realised that if I went on tour I’d be lying to the band and the fans.

“You can’t be a member of Oasis and not give 100 per cent. We should have called it a day when we did Knebworth. That was the ultimate peak. We should have bowed out. The spark had faded and it was time to go.”

But he admits he would join Oasis if the Gallagher brothers ever decided to reform the original line-up.

“I’m not for bands getting back together for the sake of it,” said Bonehead. “If a band is finished, a band is finished. But if Oasis did get back together and asked me, I would be up like a shot. I’d play with them but I don’t think that’ll happen.”
Pete used to live in San Francisco, but returned to Scotland to help look after his dad who has bladder cancer.

Looking ahead to the show, he said: “It’s a hometown gig for me in Coatbridge and it’s a local studio with rehearsal rooms. I thought it would be a good setting to perform this acoustic gig with Alan and Bonehead.”

He is also releasing a single, Rolling Stone, which was inspired by the experience.
You can hear a video performance of the song, performed by Pete and Bonehead at the Daily Record here.

Pete said: “Alan has told me 2012 should be my year and that I have the songs and the talent. That is good but I’m not really in this for fame and fortune. “I’m just happy playing my songs.”

Bonehead And Pete MacLeod Live Date In Newcastle And More

Pete MacLeod and former Oasis band member Bonehead, have announced an acoustic show on December the 10TH, 2011, at Newcastle's Riverside venue. Speaking of the show and Pete's music Bonehead said, "I first heard about Pete's music through Alan Mcgee's recommendation back in 2008 and followed his progress. I really liked what I heard with his songwriting and vocals. I think Alan mentioned this to Pete and through that we got talking about working together. We then did a UK/Irish acoustic tour together with me playing on all of Pete's songs and that was top! We had a right good laugh and the songs sounded great, we both really enjoyed it. His recent single, Rolling Stone, is a GREAT tune and I'm really looking forward to Newcastle in December." Speaking of the acoustic show Pete said, "I love playing acoustic gig's and I found in LA that there are many venues that are built for that purpose. When you play an intimate venue or show with everyone listening, nothing beats it. I guess it's a songwriter thing? At the end of the day without my acoustic guitar I wouldn't have any songs. That's where they all come from and I think it's good to keep it simple like that. Having Bonehead playing on my songs again is great. He's done it all and still has a passion for new music. He's one of the good guy's and I'm really looking forward to joining up with him again for the gig in Newcastle."

After performing a solo acoustic show at Glasgow's King Tut's in 2010, Pete realised he had some musician friends gathering around him for general support. Little did Pete know at the time that it was all beginning to fit into a fateful line-up. "I started to acknowledge that I had a few friend's around me when I came back from the Los Angeles. Fergy, bass player (Cancerian), guitarist Kev Donnelly (Cancerian) and guitarist Pedro (Cancerian). All three musician's were in previous band's with me at different times in the past. Not knowing if I was going to form a band again, I allowed things to develop naturally and let time go on to see if this was indeed the right path for me." The three musician's were keen to be involved musically again with Pete but he wasn't convinced just yet if that was the right thing for him to do, as it's a tried and tested road he has been on before. The band went into the rehearsal studios listening to Pete's song's and performing it by ear with several different drummers to see how thing's felt. Thing's weren't working out for various reasons and Pete had accepted that this was to be the way fate had turned out, until he had heard of young drummer and local musician, Martin Johnston's talent's. After a chat on the phone with the conversation ending on asking Martin what his star sign was and Martin replying "Cancerian, why?", Pete began to realise that this was to be fate's handling in some weird way. (It also turns out Martin's family actually worked with Pete's Dad back in the day, small World). The band went into rehearsals in Glasgow and played Pete's songs with the outcome being very impressive. After a few weeks of rehearsals Pete wondered if he should name the band or not. "I'm a Leo, so I thought about calling the band Leo and The Cancerian's but decided not to risk being sued by Leo Sayer and so I left it for a few day's. I then looked at it again after I typed it into my iPhone and noticed that the star sign LEO was already in my name!" Pete MacLEOd & The Cancerian's. Pete named his previous band thestar69. He got a tattoo on his arm when he was 22 with the ying yang and the 6 and 9 in the circle instead of the dot's. Weirdly, 6 and 9 is the Cancerian's symbol. It just might be that some thing's are in the stars...

Pete and his band, (Pete MacLEOd & The Cancerian's), will be swapping Hollywood for Kirkwood over the next two months as they prepare to perform a monthly residency at local bar The Eagle Inn on September 30TH and October 28TH. They will then be playing in Newcastle's Riverside on the 11TH of November and a headline Christmas show @ King Tut's, Glasgow, on the 23RD of December. This will be the first time that Pete has ever performed in the place he grew up, having spent all of his childhood in Kirkwood. You can follow Pete's progress on Facebook, Twitter and Youtube.
