Noel Gallagher Admits He Loathes The England Football Team

Even though the former Oasis star was born and raised in Manchester, he insists he feels Roy Hodgson's men are "always a good laugh".

Football fan Noel Gallagher has said he loathes the England team so much he always supports the opposition.

Even though the former Oasis star was born and raised in Manchester, he insists he feels Roy Hodgson's men are "always a good laugh".

Speaking on US radio the 47-year-old went on to mock suggestions the team are world beaters after their recent 3-2 win over Germany while admitting he loathes all internationals who play for Manchester United and especially Wayne Rooney.

Noel blasted: "I am not a fan of the English team .

"I find the whole circus surrounding it annoying, that when they beat Germany in a friendly they are world beaters, but we all know Germany will win that trophy, and England will be lucky to get to the quarter finals.

“No, I'm not an England fan, though it would be great if England won anything, it would be truly staggering.

"I don't consider myself to be English, my parents are Irish, my wife's Scottish, my children have got some Scottish in them, but at the same time I don't feel a hundred percent Irish either because I was born in England.

"So internationally I don't really support anyone, but if England were playing Scotland tomorrow I would be supporting Scotland.

"If Ireland were playing England, I would be supporting Ireland, same for Wales, but I've been to England matches and it's always a good laugh.

"I don't like Wayne Rooney, most of the United players have coloured my judgement of England down the years, I know it's petty but it's just the way I am."

The die hard Manchester City fan said he feels only Raheem Sterling and Joe Hart deserve any international silverware.

He added: " Joe Hart is a legend and if anyone deserved a medal it would be him, and Raheem Stirling but the rest of them can f*** right off as far as I'm concerned."

The musician is also one of the few in the nation to bemoan Leicester City's potential win of the Premier League.

"I am not interested, if we don't win it it shouldn't be presented to anyone,” Noel said.

"Oh f*** no, of course I wouldn't want United to win anything, between the two, to be honest, I'd rather Tottenham win, I don't know why.

"Saying that it's over, Leicester are going to win it, they won it about four weeks ago, there's no way they'll stop them now.

“The Tottenham lads seem like pretty good lads, you know what I mean? I think they'd be worthy champions, and that Leicester team is going to break up at the end of the season and next season they might get relegated.

"It will be a bit of a flash in the pan you would have thought, that's the way it is.

Noel Gallagher On Manchester City, Leicester City, Tottenham, England's Euro 2016 Chances And More

Noel Gallagher believes Leicester and Tottenham players should make up the core of team following their high-flying Premier League season.

Roy Hodgson is set to reveal which players he will take to the summer’s European Championship finals in a squad announcement on May 12.

The Three Lions boss has previously insisted he will not overlook players who helped the side through their unbeaten qualifying campaign, although the emergence of a number of young stars have put the places of some of the regular crop under threat.

The likes of Tottenham’s Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Eric Dier plus Leicester striker Jamie Vardy have starred at club level this term and excelled on an international stage in recent games for England.

And Gallagher believes Hodgson would disgrace himself if he continues to stick with the old guard despite having a number of exciting prospects at his disposal.

“If Harry Kane, Dele Alli and all that mob don’t start that first game, then the manager is in disrepute I’m afraid,” the High Flying Birds frontman told the Sports Bar.

“And if Wayne Rooney gets on that pitch it would be a disgrace. If that happens it would just about sum up English football.

“For me, you would just pick the best English players from the Leicester squad and the best English players from the Tottenham squad, and all the rest will just make up the numbers.

“Between the two teams they’ve lost about five games [it’s actually seven] all season. It’s unbelievable.

“Rooney is the captain, so that would cause too much of an uproar if he doesn’t get in the team, but really he shouldn’t get anywhere near it.”

Noel Gallagher: England Have Been Cast Into The Wilderness

Noel Gallagher has delivered a damning assessment of the current state of the England national side, claiming they are ‘cast as far away into the wilderness as they’ve ever been.’

England endured a disastrous 2014 World Cup campaign, miserably failing to pick up a single victory as Roy Hodgson’s men fell at the group stages.

They have since recovered well to top their Euro 2016 qualifying group with a 100 per cent record to date, but Gallagher isn’t convinced any improvements have been made since the debacle in Brazil.
“England are as far away cast into the wilderness as they’ve ever been. I don’t see anything moving forward,” the rock star told the Sports Bar.

“I don’t think 11 English lads will ever be better than 11 German lads, it’s been proven. They go from these young lads who are surrounded by world superstars, who make them look twice the players they actually are, to the national team.”

Hodgson has gone some way to answering his critics following the woes of last summer, but uncertainty regarding his long-term future still remains.

Many believe that, because he is now 67, the FA will look for a successor after the European Championship finals in France, and Gallagher can see a foreign manager, like previous appointments Sven Goran-Eriksson and Fabio Capello, being considered again.

He added: “I don’t think he [Hodgson] will get one [deal]. There’s another crossroads coming.

Rock legend Noel Gallagher joined Andy Goldstein and Jason Cundy on The Sport Bar to talk all things football and mull over England’s qualification for next year’s World Cup.

The musician admits he doesn’t think the Three Lions will progress very far during the tournament insisting the fact they won’t be seeded has scuppered any chances of success.

And he now wants to see Roy Hodgson play some his young talents in their upcoming friendlies against Chile and Germany, so they can get vital experience.

He also talks about his trip to see comedian Micky Flanagan, where he met current Wimbledon champion Andy Murray.

Noel Gallagher Loves Steven Gerrard's Wonder-Ball

Rock star and football fanatic Noel Gallagher reckons Steven Gerrard has proved once and for all that he should get the vote over Frank Lampard in midfield.

Football has always been divided about whether the two can play together for England.

But crocked Chelsea star Lampard, 34, was ruled out of Euro 2012, leaving Gerrard, 32, to run the show.

And Manchester City fan Gallagher (below) says he has done a superb job.

He thought the Liverpool skipper was man of the match against Ukraine and said: “It was the best I have ever seen him play for England. Isn’t it ironic, the debate about him and Lampard? Blah, blah, blah, blah. No more.

“It just goes to show when he is the main man, he plays like the main man.

“He has had a hand in all of England’s goals so far. He has been brilliant, dictating play, taking free-kicks, running the show.”

Gallagher believes the only way to beat Italy tonight is to bring back Andy Carroll – and continue to rely on a huge slice of luck.

He said: “For as long as I can remember we’ve never had such luck, now we seem to be getting it for once. I can see our game against Italy being goalless, a grind and us winning on penalties.

“I don’t think England can improve, they can only change the system and play Andy Carroll up front – go for the Stoke City approach.

“The quality is going to step up tenfold now we are playing Italy and, in Pirlo, they have arguably the best midfield player of the tournament.”

Gallagher compared the Ukraine victory to a “Scottish third division match”.

And he added: “Roy Hodgson has been playing like that all his career. But I still think we win will.”
