Noel Gallagher's In The Studio With Paul Weller

During this backstage interview with Absolute Radio's Geoff Lloyd, Paul reveals that he's turned down an MBE. The Modfather looks back at past festivals, including the first V Festival. He tells Geoff that they've changed because people just want to hear the greatest hits.

Weller also explains how he's been hit by loads of thrown objects and even admits to having lost it with members of the public! When asked about his Mercury Prize nomination, Weller tells Geoff that the award normally goes to someone who nobody has ever heard of, so he's doubtful that he'll win.

The Gallagher brothers also get a mention during the interview as Weller has hired Noel Gallagher as his drummer on some new material he's working on!

The former Jam star also says that he's visited Liam's shop and is going to be wearing a Pretty Green jacket on stage tonight.

The star hailed the British crowds saying, ‘They are the best and just get it and know all the words.’

"The Importance Of Being Idle" is a song on the British rock band Oasis' sixth album, Don't Believe the Truth, written and sung by lead guitarist Noel Gallagher. It was the second single released from the album in the UK, on August 22, 2005, where it debuted at #1. It was also the first time that Oasis earned two successive #1's in the same calendar year. It was written by Gallagher sometime during the summer of 2004, before the band made their final attempt at recording what would become Don't Believe the Truth. He got the title from the Mark Twain book of the same name which he found whilst cleaning out his garage (it belonged not to him but to girlfriend Sara McDonald.)

Musically, as Noel has commented, the song sounds like tunes from two British bands, The Kinks and The La's. In particular, the sentiment expressed is noticeably similar to The Kinks' "Sunny Afternoon" and "Dead End Street", and the use of falsetto for every other verse line recalls The La's "Feelin'". The guitar sound is similar also to The La's b-sides; "Clean Prophet" and "Over". It also is a breakaway from the sound of Oasis's latter albums, especially the straight ahead rock 'n' roll anthems of Heathen Chemistry. The keyboard used on the pre-chorus sections was bought by bassist Andy Bell from the auction website eBay.

Noel has said that the lyrics of "The Importance of Being Idle" are inspired by his own laziness. Some of the second verse, with the reference to begging his doctor for "one more line", seems to be referring to an actual event as this resembles Noel's account of how he gave up cocaine in 1998.

Most reviewers acclaimed the track as one of the highlights of Don't Believe the Truth, which itself was widely praised as a marked return to form. The band mentioned in interviews in June that it would become the second single, after the UK Number One "Lyla". The b-sides are Liam Gallagher's "Pass Me Down the Wine" and Gem Archer's "The Quiet Ones."

The promo film was directed by Dawn Shadforth, (whose previous videos include Kylie Minogue's award-winning "Can't Get You Out Of My Head"). Shadforth's film for "The Importance of Being Idle' starred Welsh actor Rhys Ifans and homages the style of early 1960s kitchen sink drama British films, and is set during the build up to a funeral procession in a northern town, with the extravagant undertakers parading the coffin at the video's climax and Ifans playing the part of a high-kicking funeral director. The video is based on the film and play Billy Liar with Ifans playing the role of Billy. Noel and Liam therefore play Shadrack & Duxbury, the owners of the funeral parlour where Billy works. The rest band (Gem,Andy and Zak) make a brief appearance as lazy workers playing cards in an undertaker's office. It was widely acclaimed at the time as being probably the best video Oasis had ever made, not least by the band themselves, who were said to be very happy with the finished product. The video is very similar in style and concept to the music video for "Dead End Street" by The Kinks.

Q Magazine readers placed the song at #1 in a list of 2005's greatest tracks.

The video for the song was voted the video of the year at the NME Awards.

The song is included on Oasis' 'best-of' album Stop the Clocks.

The Pretty Green Desert Boots Have Arrived

The long awaited Pretty Green Desert Boots have arrived and are shipping immediately.

Liam worked closely with the Clarks Originals design team in Somerset to develop a Pretty Green version of the classic Desert Boot. He had a clear vision of what he wanted; though still carrying the signature Originals design, the boot has a wider and more rounded toe and lower heel, creating a slimmer profile than the original.

Clarks Originals have looked to long standing family tanners, the Steads Tannery of Leeds and sourced the premium Janus Butt suede. This stands out for its quality, butter soft tactility and a beautifully textured finish.

Available in Green, Black, Brown and Champagne.

Be Here Now is the third studio album by the English rock band Oasis. Released on August 21 1997, the album was highly anticipated by both music critics and fans as a result of the band's previous worldwide successes with their 1994 debut album Definitely Maybe, and its 1995 follow up (What's the Story) Morning Glory?. The album's pre-release build up led to considerable hype within both the music and mainstream press. At that point, Oasis were at the height of their fame, and Be Here Now became the UK's fastest selling album to date, selling over 420,000 units on the first day of release alone, and over one million within two weeks. As of 2007, the album has sold eight million copies worldwide.
Oasis' management company Ignition were aware of the danger of overexposure, and before its release they sought to control the media's access to the album. Ignition's campaign included limiting pre-release radio airplay, and requesting that journalists sign gag agreements. These tactics resulted in the alienation of members of both the music and mainstream media, as well as many industry members connected with the band. Ignition's attempts to limit pre-release access to the album only served to fuel large scale speculation and publicity within the British music scene.

Artistically Be Here Now failed to live up to the expectations that preceded its release. Although initial reviews were positive, retrospectively the album is viewed by much of the music press and by most members of the band as over-indulgent and bloated. In 2007, Q magazine described Be Here Now as "a disastrous, overblown folly—the moment when Oasis, their judgement clouded by drugs and blanket adulation, ran aground on their own sky-high self-belief." The album's producer Owen Morris said of the recording sessions: "The only reason anyone was there was the money. Noel had decided Liam was a shit singer. Liam had decided he hated Noel's songs [...] Massive amounts of drugs. Big fights. Bad vibes. Shit recordings." None of its songs were included on the band's 2006 "best of" compilation album Stop the Clocks.

Album cover

The cover image to Be Here Now was shot at the Stock Hotel in Hertfordshire in April 1997. It features the band standing outside the hotel surrounded by assorted props. At the centre of the image is a Rolls Royce floating in a swimming pool. The photographer Michael Spencer Johns said the original concept involved shooting each band member in various locations around the world, but when the cost proved prohibitive, the shoot was relocated to the Stock Hotel. Spencer remarked that the shoot "degenerated into chaos", adding that "by 8pm, everyone was in the bar, there were schoolkids all over the set, and the lighting crew couldn't start the generator.

It was Alice in Wonderland meets Apocalypse Now." Despite various meanings people have tried to read into the selection of the cover props, Johns said Gallagher simply selected items from the BBC props store he thought would look good in the picture. Two of the props that had considered thought in their inclusion were the inflatable globe (intended as a homage to the sleeve of Definitely Maybe) and the Rolls Royce, which was suggested by Arthurs. The release date in each region was commemorated on the calendar pictured on the sleeve; Harris said the dating "[encouraged] fans to believe that to buy a copy on the day it appeared was to participate in some kind of historical event."

Noel Gallagher Denies Being Russell Brand's Best Man

Noel Gallagher is set to head into the studio "this week" (beginning August 16) to record drums for another unnamed musician, he has confirmed.

The former Oasis guitarist revealed his plans in an interview with Talksport.

Gallagher wouldn't say who the mystery musician he is teaming up with is, though he did admit that it's someone he has "thrown up" with in the past.

Elsewhere in the interview, Gallagher denied he is to be Russell Brand's best man, though he did say he's going on the comedian's stag do ahead of his wedding to singer Katy Perry this winter.

Noel Gallagher And Paul Weller Catch Up At Starbucks

Starbucks may be the most ubiquitous coffee chain on the high street.

But for these two icons of popular music, a greasy spoon is more than adequate for catching up on each others news.

Oasis star Noel Gallagher, 43, enjoyed a brew with Paul Weller aka The Modfather, 52, at a cafe in West London.

Chilling: Two of the music world's most famous artists, enjoyed a quiet cuppa at a greasy spoon in West London today

Looking like an ordinary pair of middle-aged men, albeit with a penchant for youthful clothes, the pair were seen deep in conversation outside the neighbourhood cafe.

No fancy lattes or double macchiatos for these two, just a couple of cuppas, as they enjoyed a friendly chat.

The millionaire musicians sat outside at the pavement side tables in front of the cafe's windows which were plastered with signs advertising the cafe staple 'All Day Breakfast' at the bargain price of just £4.95.

Weller, amazingly, has managed to stay friends with both Gallagher brothers, despite Noel and Liam's well-publicised fall-out last year which resulted in him leaving the band.
Noel Gallagher and Paul Weller enjoy a cuppa at a cafe in west London

Music icons: Noel and Weller have known each other for 12 years... and the Modfather is also friendly with Noel's estranged brother Liam

Weller has enjoyed a 12-year friendship with the father of two. He is also expecting a third child, his second with wife Sara McDonald.

And he has recently signed on to design clothing for Liam's fashion label Pretty Green.

Noel has said of the former Jam frontman: 'I guess Weller’s my oldest friend... I’ve known him for about 12 years”, said the guitarist.

'There’s an unwritten law that I never go out with Paul Weller, he’s a nightmare.

'He’s hardcore – if you go out with him, if you come home at all, there’s bumps and bruises. There’s been scuffles in the street and you’ve probably fallen out with him.'

Last year Noel quit Oasis after a fight with his brother and lead vocalist of Oasis, Liam Gallagher.

He posted a statement on the band's website that read: 'It's with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight.

'People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.'

The remaining members of Oasis have formed a band together called Beady Eye.

Princess Mary Of Denmark Has Her Beady Eye On Liam Gallagher's Pretty Green

Class and elegance are not two words we would usually associate with Liam Gallagher, but earlier today the former Oasis frontman had to muster up as much of those two traits as possible (if indeed that even is possible) when he met Crown Princess Mary of Denmark at the Copenhagen International Fashion Fair where he was promoting his clothing label Pretty Green.

Considering Liam tends to swear pretty much every other word, we’re almost certain he must’ve said something vile/crude/offensive/derogatory to Crown Princess Mary at least once during the course of their conversation.

But if he did, Mary certainly didn’t let the surprise show in her face – cos she’s a true pro and that’s what royals do - or so we hear.

P.s. Why are our royals so fug in comparison to the Danes’? Watch the video here

Noel Gallagher Features In New Manchester City Magazine

As predicted last month here on How-Do, Manchester City FC has binned its former supporters' magazine - named City Mag - and emerged with a new, bigger, bolder and more expensive title for the new season. The name, as previously intimated, has been changed to ManC.

Issue one of the new look title is out now. With 100 pages it easily outweighs City Mag’s pagination of 68, but also costs an extra pound (on sale for £3.50).

However, this, as the club stresses on its site, “is purely for production costs.”

Explaining more, David Clayton, the magazine’s editor, writes: “Virtually every feature is new and the interviews are longer and more substantial.

“This is a club magazine like no other - City fans have always loved their fashion, music and Mancunian culture and ManC captures the spirit of both the City and Manchester.”

In a nod to this objective, the first issue features not just interviews and features with players, but also pieces with Noel Gallagher, a Stone Roses feature and a chance to win Muse tickets.

The title is available to subscribers and is on sale now around the City of Manchester stadium and at open training sessions.

City has said that demand is “already high” for issue one.

Noel Gallagher TCT Petition

One of our sites visitors has started a petition to get Noel Gallagher's TCT performance tapes officially released. Have a look at his website and the statement below to see how you can help out !

This year Noel Gallagher played 2 nights for the Teenage Cancer Trust at The Royal Albert Hall. Proceeds from ticket sales went to the charity, originally founded by Sir Roger Daltry of The Who fame. A full soundboard recording of both audio and video was made on one, if not both of these nights and a few tracks have been made available online, on TV and on athe Radio. What the fans really want is a CD of the complete gig Pro recorded as well as a DVD of the Pro recorded video. So instead of letting these recordings remain unused, why not release them and use the money made by the sales to assist the charity further. Its all for a good cause and will be a great bit of memorabilia for any Noel Gallagher/Oasis fan.

On August 10th 1996, Oasis played the first of two nights at Knebworth. Support for the two days included TheProdigy, Ocean Colour Scene, Charlatans, Manic Street Preachers, Kula Shaker and Dreadzone.

Below is a review from THE TIMES of the show.

Review: Oasis at Knebworth, 1996

One in 20 Britons applied for tickets to see Oasis in concert at Knebworth. Our critic joined the crowd on Saturday.

Three million people, 5 per cent of the population, applied for tickets and those lucky enough to get them were treated to two new songs, My Big Mouth and It's Getting Better Man , along with tried and tested hits. With a guest list of 7,000 there were plenty of opportunities for star-spotting: Mick Hucknall of Simply Red, Jarvis Cocker and Kate Moss made their way to the celebrity enclosure to compare bodyguards with Liam Gallagher and Patsy Kensit, and all looked disingenuously surprised when mobbed by amateur paparazzi.

For those not chosen as Kate Moss's plus one, there were tickets still available at a price. Cro-Magnon touts were willing to get you into "The Gig of the Decade" for £300, a sizeable mark-up from £22.50. Once inside, many would have gladly paid £300 to avoid queues. There were 400-yard tailbacks for each bar and toilet. But with the temperature into the 70s and a PA so powerful everyone was guaranteed to leave touched by tinnitus, such matters were of little importance. Oasis took to the stage at 9pm, greeted by a roar so huge that flocks of birds took to the sky from Knebworth's old oaks.

"Hello, hello, hello," Liam said, making a fairly good job of John Lennon's famous "retard" impression. "Let's go." And off they went, kicking out the music that has made the Top 40 truly exciting for the first time in ten years and working hard for the estimated £5.6 million the weekend accrued.

Joined for the inevitable encore of Champagne Supernova by The Stone Roses's ex-guitar player John Squire, Oasis bowed out in a blaze of guitar solos and a firework display. As many tired and emotional punters fell over backwards, disorientated from staring at the sky so long, Martin Carr of the Boo Radleys said: "Everyone in Britain - except Damon from Blur - loves Oasis. They can do no wrong." He would appear to be right.

How times have changed for the former Oasis frontman.

He spent Saturday at his local in Hampstead, north London, sitting on the Pup Idol panel - having been roped in to judge the dog show by his missus Nicole Appleton.

And Liam lapped up the action, planting kisses on the furry mutts, laughing at the cute doggies while mulling over the pros and cons of the canine contestants.

He's barking mad.

"Live Forever" is a song by British rock group Oasis. Written by guitarist Noel Gallagher, the song was released as the third single from their debut album Definitely Maybe on 8 August 1994, just prior to that album's release.

Gallagher wrote the song in 1991, before he joined Oasis. Inspired by The Rolling Stones' "Shine a Light," "Live Forever" features a basic song structure and lyrics with an optimistic outlook that contrasted with the attitude of the grunge bands popular at the time. The song was the first Oasis single to enter the top ten in the United Kingdom, and garnered critical acclaim.

Background and recording

Noel Gallagher wrote "Live Forever" in 1991, while working for a building company in his hometown of Manchester. After his foot was crushed by a pipe in an accident, he was given a less-strenuous job working in the storeroom, allowing him more time to write songs. One night he was listening to The Rolling Stones' album Exile on Main St. While playing one of his own chord progressions, Gallagher noted that it sounded good against one of the vocal melodies from the album: "It was the bit from 'Shine a Light' that goes [sings], 'May the good lord shine a light on you,'" Gallagher recalled. Gallagher incorporated the melody, changing the line to "Maybe I don’t really want to know". For a period afterwards, that was the only part of the song Gallagher had completed.

The song was later instrumental in helping the band secure their record deal with Creation Records. Reflecting on when he first heard the song, Creation boss Alan McGee recalled "It was probably the single greatest moment I've ever experienced with them."

The demo version of "Live Forever" begins with an acoustic guitar intro. While recording the album version, the record's producer Owen Morris cut out this intro and replaced it with a drumbeat played by Tony McCarroll. Morris further cut a second section in Noel's guitar solo. Although Gallagher was upset, Morris felt the part had sounded "a bit like fucking Slash from Guns N' Roses".

Reception

"Live Forever" was released on 8 August 1994 as the band's third single, a month before the release of their debut album Definitely Maybe. The song had been part of the band's set for longer than a year at that point, and had amassed so many mentions in reviews of the group that "its release [as a single] had long seemed inevitable." In its review of the single, NME found "Live Forever" to be an improvement over Oasis' previous singles, concluding, "Basically, what thus far looked like obnoxious Manc arrogance suddenly looks like sheer effortlessness. A terrific record."

While Oasis' first two singles, "Supersonic" and "Shakermaker", were modestly received, it was "Live Forever" that "got the world's attention." "Live Forever" became Oasis' first top ten hit, reaching number ten on the British singles charts in 1994. In 1995, the song became the band's first chart success in the United States, reaching number two and ten on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks and Mainstream Rock Tracks charts, respectively.[8] Noel Gallagher commented on the praise given to the song: "People said to me after 'Live Forever', 'Where are you gonna go after that?' And I was like, I don't think it's that good. I think it's a fucking good song, but I think I can do better."

"Live Forever" has garnered additional acclaim years after its release. In 2006, "Live Forever" was named the greatest song of all time in a poll released by Q; the song had ranked ninth in a similar Q poll three years before.[9] In 2007, "Live Forever" placed number one in the NME and XFM poll of the 50 "Greatest Indie Anthems Ever".[10] The song was selected by Noel Gallagher for inclusion on Oasis' compilation album Stop the Clocks in 2006.

Music videos

Two music videos were made for "Live Forever" for British and American airplay. The original video, directed by Carlos Grasso, features unusual imagery such as Liam Gallagher sitting on a chair affixed to a wall, and a number of scenes are devoted to the band burying drummer Tony McCarroll alive. Some of the UK version of the promotional video was filmed at the Strawberry Fields memorial, the area of New York City's Central Park dedicated to John Lennon—the single cover features 251 Menlove Avenue, the childhood home of Lennon. The American video, directed by Nick Egan, features the band playing in an office with pictures of Sid Vicious, Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison, John Lennon, Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Marc Bolan, and Bobby Moore on the wall. Both videos are included on the 2004 Definitely Maybe DVD.

An Oasis Of Fashion

Liam Gallagher's clothing range, Pretty Green, harks back to the supercool 1960s with parkas, polos and all-round polish.

The links between music and fashion are tighter than a G-string but it can be hit and miss when musicians turn their hands to clothing. Some win real credibility – Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B. label, for example – others not so much. Slip into biker jackets and snakeskin bodysuits of Richie Sambora’s White Trash Beautiful, launched in June, and basically you’re ready to sleep with the band.

So when news came out last year that ex-Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher was bringing out a fashion brand, it could have gone either way.

Happily, Pretty Green – named after a Jam song – is pretty good: well-made, clean-lined parkas, polo shirts, tailored trenches and blazers with design roots clearly in the 1960s.

Gallagher is mainly frontman again but all pieces are subject to his approval; he also appears in campaign shots.

And he wears the stuff well, his hirsute features and oddly girlish haircut setting off red velvet jackets inspired by Jimi Hendrix and an impressive camouflage parka – although various farmyard animals will fly before you catch him smiling in shot.

Autumn winter sees the first suit, a three-button single-breasted jacket with wide lapel – a popular feature of the late 1960s – and 8in vent at the back. Footwear is covered in Pretty Green’s collaboration with Clarks to produce a Gallagher-approved desert boot: a wider, squarer toe with a lower heel and slimmer profile.

Independent stockists snapped up the collection but last week the brand opened a space of its own, a pop-up on – appropriately, given its history – London’s Carnaby Street.

It sounds like a slice of Gallagher’s ideal world, with a panoramic image of Liam on Brighton beach and a Lambretta Li 150 series 3 replica scooter lounging around. Maybe that’ll make him crack a smile.

Lionel Messi Is Not In Oasis Cover Band

What is this 'Wonder-wall' you speak of?"

For a couple months now, odd stories of Lionel Messi's newfound, yet obsessive love for Oasis have been coming from The Sun. From Messi's doomed vow to beat Germany for the English band to his invitation for Noel Gallagher to visit him in Barcelona, the delightful stories have spread, affirming's Messi's Oasis preoccuation for all to read. Even we were seduced by Messi's tale of first falling in love with the band introduced to him on the plane to South Africa by Manchester resident Carlos Tevez.

But as ridiculous as each installment has been, the latest was just a bit too ridiculous. Again, from The Sun:

SOCCER superstar LIONEL MESSI has formed an OASIS tribute band - and is taking them on a secret European tour.

The Argentinian World Player Of The Year has revealed he performs as guitarist NOEL GALLAGHER.

Hitman Messi, 23, has also recruited a Barcelona team-mate to play singer LIAM - but won't say who it is yet.

He said: "Our disguise is based on how Oasis looked in the mid-90s. We have our wigs, clothes and glasses sorted.

"I also spent a lot of time getting the mannerisms right."

Messi says his band will tour soon - and says he's invited Noel to see them play.

He said: "We'll visit the UK. If you're at a pub or club where we are performing and see past our disguises there'll be a decent prize in it for you."

Like the others, this story of the man who supposedly just discovered Oasis on the plane to South Africa somehow already having a cover band formed, disguises set, and mannerisms down pat is spreading. It's so fantastic and smothered in whimsy that we want it to be true, but it seems no part of the Messi hearts Oasis affair actually is.

On June 27, weeks after Messi was reported to have become a Gallagher lover, award-winning Argentine journalist Clemente Cancela tweeted:

End of a myth: Messi does not know Oasis. I repeat: does not know Oasis. He told me.

So it's the word of a man with legitimate access to Messi against the showbiz section of The Sun. Believe what you want.

Liam Gallagher Has Donated A Signed Guitar To Help Dogs

Former Oasis singer Liam Gallagher has donated a signed guitar to raise money for dogs charities.

The former Oasis frontman has given a classic Epiphone Casino guitar adorned with his signature to launch PUP AID 2010 - the UK's first charity boutique music festival and celebrity-judged dog show.

Liam stopped off at the Gibson Guitar Showroom, in London, with wife Nicole Appleton and their Dachshund dog Ruby Tuesday to hand over the instrument to TV vet Marc Abraham.

Marc - who is the resident vet on UK television shows 'This Morning' and 'My Pet Shame' - said: "As a massive Oasis fan I'm honoured Liam and Nicole are involved and helping me to promote dog welfare as well as raising much-needed funds for both rescue and the research into the health and happiness of all dogs."

PUP AID 2010 takes place in Brighton, England, on September 19 and is aiming to raise awareness about the cruel industry of puppy farming.

The guitar will now be taken on a tour of music festivals to gain more signatures from mutt-loving rock stars before being auctioned off at the event.

All money raised from the sale will go to three dog charities - the Dogs Trust, Kennel Club Charitable Trust and the Oldies Club.

Gloucestershire Builder Helps Out Liam Gallagher With Mod Cons

A Builder from Gloucester with a penchant for the mod revival has been mixing with the stars as he helped to promote former Oasis man Liam Gallagher's clothing range.

Dave Wyburn, from Abbeydale, was partying with the likes of Kelly Jones from the Stereophonics and Nicole Appleton of All Saints fame in Carnaby Street on Friday at the opening of a new shop for clothing range Pretty Green's.

Dave first met Liam two years ago after forming a friendship based on their mutual love for the mod era and scooters.

Dave took one of his scooters to the shop launch on Friday by the request of Liam himself.

Dave said: "It was great. Liam's such a nice bloke, he really is. I think the media just paint him in a certain way.

"We both love scooters and I first worked with him a couple of years ago when he did a photo shoot with my scooters.

"I'm a huge Oasis fan too so it was great to meet him, and we just got on really well.

"When he asked if he could use one of my scooters as part of the shop launch, I jumped at it."

Dave's scooter took pride and place outside the new shop on Friday for the passing punters to marvel at.

This is not his first brush with fame though as he owns the original customised mirror-endowed Vespa scooter ridden by Ace Face, who was played by rock legend Sting in the classic 1979 film Quadrophenia.

"The bike is now in Littledean Jail so everyone can see it," said Dave, 42.

"I found it by accident in a shed in Staffordshire, but brought it back up to scratch.

"I just love the whole mod revival, that's why I got into Oasis in the first place. To now have the opportunity to meet Liam is amazing. I haven't met Noel yet and I don't think I will to be honest, they don't exactly get on at the moment!"

Oasis Fan Katy Perry

Katy Perry has revealed that she is a fan of Oasis.

The 'California Gurls' singer - who got engaged to comedian Russell Brand in India on New Year's Eve (31.12.09) following a whirlwind romance - admits she loves the defunct rock bands work, even if she doesn't know all of their records yet.

Russell is a close friend of Oasis songwriter Noel Gallagher, which Katy admits has influenced her taste in music.

She said: "I've met Noel Gallagher a few times but we haven't been in London a lot recently. I'm a big fan of Oasis, though I don't know the catalogue front to back."

The British funnyman has even been keeping his fiancee up-to-date on the controversial rockers' long running feud with rival band Blur so she didn't embarrass herself in front of either Noel or his estranged brother Liam Gallagher.

She explained to Q magazine: "Russell schooled me on that whole battle between Oasis and the Blur, so at least I wasn't going to make a faux pas there."

The American beauty also revealed she loves the different accents British rockers have- even when they are swearing.

She said: "They're like different dialects, but when you check it out, they're all just cursing a lot but basically saying the same thing."

Liam Gallagher Launches Clothes Shop

Liam Gallagher launched his own clothes shop on London's famous Carnaby Street.

The former Oasis frontman opened the branch of Pretty Green with his wife Nicole Appleton and sister-in-law Natalie.

And he couldn't resist striking the odd pose for the invited snappers - and planting a smacker on his missus Nic.

Liam's also bent the ear of Stereophonics frontman Kelly Jones, who popped in with Gem Archer and Andy Bell, Liam's Beady Eye bandmates.

But other invited pals, who already have suitcases of the clobber, sent their apologies.

Kasabian are on tour, Joe Cole's in Liverpool and Spurs' David Bentley was banned by his gaffer Harry Redknapp.

Until now the threads were only available online.

I'm sure the tourists will go mad fer it.

Liam Gallagher Launches Pretty Green Store

"The main thing is to try to get our own little store, our own little shop out here at some point…we're looking at a place in London.”

Pretty Green is now just over a year old. An idea that started as a means to produce custom desert boots has now evolved into a two storey boutique in the heart of London’s West End. The store accommodates floor to ceiling artwork featuring label figurehead Liam Gallagher. The shots overlook the new Black and Green Label Spring/Summer 2010 collections as well as exclusive one off Pretty Green pieces. These include custom ‘Carnaby Street’ T-shirts, desert boots and jeans, which will be available for the first time. The Autumn/Winter 2010 collection will be presented both online and in store in August.

“Everything’s important. Pretty Green, the whole package, it’s the real deal... I’m proud of it.”

There could have only been one home for Pretty Green’s first flagship store; Carnaby Street. Under the stewardship of fashion legend John Stephen, Carnaby Street styled a generation of British youth in the 60’s, creating an image and lifestyle still devoted to by people all over the world. Not simply a tourist spot, Carnaby Street is home to some of the leading high street brands and in 2010 celebrated 50 years as a focal point for fashion, culture and arts in the Capital. Despite having only an online presence until this month, endorsements from leading figures in the world of music, sport, fashion and Hollywood have firmly placed the label in the top rungs of the high end fashion market, and established the label as a central body in men’s fashion, selling to over 80 countries in its first year.

“I’m liking the way it’s expanding...it’s been great and people seem to like it.”

So at number 57 in the south corner of Carnaby Street, sits Pretty Green’s new pop-up store. The ground floor and basement of the 2,000 square foot building displays both the Green and Black Label collections featuring all the major pieces available online. The newest edition to Pretty Green is a range of jeans only available in store with desert boots set to go on sale in August. Upstairs there is a show room for Industry buyers which currently previews the Spring/Summer 2011 collection. On the ground floor customers will find t-shirts, knitwear, jackets, shirts and jeans whilst the larger items such as parkas (both the ivory and camo parkas are on sale) can be found downstairs along with hats, scarves and other accessories. Large prints of Liam hang on the minimalist white walls which haven’t been altered since the space belonged to St Martin’s College or Art and Design, so it feels a bit like an art gallery with a cash register. One point of interest for fans will be the soundtrack; all the music played in-store has been mixed by Andy Bell.

It’s the first time that fans have been able to see the extensive Pretty Green collection which up until now has only been available in select stores. It also provides another point of call for ‘Oasis tourists’ in London. Clothes and music have always been interchangeable and for Liam, and both areas have run together seamlessly during the last year. Liam has travelled to Tokyo, Milan and New York promoting the label as well as preparing a debut album with new band Beady Eye. The new store draws parallels with The Beatles opening the Apple boutique in 1967, and fittingly, Liam will also be involved with turning the memoirs of Apple ‘house hippy’ Richard Di Lello into a film as announced this year.

“We’ve only just started”

Pretty Green: Carnaby Street opens at 57, Carnaby Street, London on Friday 30th July 2010 at 11:00am. The rest of 2010 will see Liam concentrate on Beady Eye with a new single expected before the year end. If the bricks and mortar store is as successful as the online version, Liam has spoken of opening others, rumoured to be in Glasgow, Manchester, Tokyo and New York.

Thanks to Pretty Green for arranging the viewing, a number of HQ images can be found here.

Liam Gallagher Says There Will Be No Oasis Reunion

Liam Gallagher has told Sky News his new band's album will be the "the best record you'll hear for the next 50 years".

The former Oasis star made the bold claim at the launch of the first store dedicated to his best-selling clothing range Pretty Green, in London's famous fashion-mecca Carnaby Street.

"Everything we do isn't a flash in the pan otherwise there's no point in doing it," Gallagher told Sky News.

"I'm not here to sell papers or get a little headline, but if we're gonna do something we are gonna do it proper, whether it's music, film, clothes, drink or whatever it is. We don't fart about."

Liam's new band Beady Eye - which features his Oasis bandmates Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Chris Sharrock - have been hard at work on their debut album.

All the songs have been recorded now, but it will still be some time before they are unveiled to the fans.

"It's not gonna be out until next year, " Liam explained.

"We'll probably get a single out October or November, and there's no point in doing gigs if people haven't heard the music. I'm looking forward to it."

Liam says Beady Eye will have a similar Beatles vibe to Oasis, but he is also been heavily influenced by T-Rex, and bizarrely notorious rock 'n' roller Jerry Lee Lewis.

"Without a doubt!" Liam shouts when I mention Lewis' name.

"We have this tune and it was a bit Rolling Stonesy, and I didn't like it. It was slow and boring.

"So we just got on a piano and ****** it up, Jerry Lee style, and stuck a John Lennon vocal on the top. It's good."

Some sneery critics might have been cynical when Liam announced he was launching his own fashion label, but its been a massive success.

The Carnaby Street store is currently just a temporary Pop-up, meaning it will not live forever of course.

Although if it's a success, more permanent dedicated Pretty Green stores will be opened in the capital, as well as Manchester, of course, and Scotland.

Meanwhile, Gallagher's mate Paul Weller is just about to help co-develop some new designs, which seems apt as the name Pretty Green comes from a Jam song.

Liam is also keen to move into women's clothing, though not in a literal sense of course.
"I have my fair share of women's clothes on the weekend," he laughs, "it's nothing new for me. But yeah, we might do a few bits and pieces.

"We're definitely doing some kids stuff man. I'd like to get my kid looking as cool as me. And maybe our Kid (his brother Noel) could get some cos he's a little fella isn't he."

Actually before the mention of Noel, it is easy to forget Liam's former band given how many other projects he is involved in right now.

But do not go thinking they are about to 'do a Take That' and get back together soon.
"We won't be back by the end of the year," Gallagher laughs.

"The only reason why Oasis will come back is when we're ****** skint and I'm far from skint as you can tell and I wont be skint for a long, long ****** time believe me, it ain't gonna be happening."

So there is no Oasis reunion then, but Noel is getting to indulge his Beatles obsession in another way by entering the world of movie-making.

He has been helping produce a new feature film based on the book The Longest Cocktail Party, which told the story of the rise and decline of the Fab Four's company Apple Corps in the late 1960s.

He will not act in it, but will help make the soundtrack, and by all accounts, it is a labour of real love.

"It's a good book and we can't balls it up now so the heat is on," says Liam.

"I'm more worried about getting that book right than getting the clothes right, and my record right. I'm not gonna be in the film but I'm worried about getting it right cos it's other people's lives."
