Noel Chat Is Jimmy Riddle

Even rock legends have heroes.

And Noel Gallagher was chuffed to bits on Monday night when he got a half-hour one-on-one backstage chat with Led Zeppelin guitar god Jimmy Page.

I’d love to tell you what they spoke about, but I don’t know. More alarmingly, neither does Noel.
The Oasis hitmaker was so hammered he has no recollection of the monumental meeting of minds following Zep’s triumphant comeback gig at London’s O2 arena — and he’s completely gutted.

A source told me: “Noel’s rubbed shoulders with some of the biggest musical figures.

“He was really looking forward to exchanging notes with Jimmy — but he’d overdone it on the Stella.

“He woke up the morning after the show and realised he couldn’t remember anything about their chat.”

So even legendary caners make schoolboy Stella Artois-related drinking errors.

Liam Gallagher In A Foo Fight

Dave Grohl caused a stir at the bar... by whistling at Liam Gallagher.

But it wasn't because he fancied him, he just wanted to catch his attention.

Still, Liam didn't like it one little bit. Sticking his fingers up at the Foo Fighter at the other end of the bar, Liam snarled: "What the f*** is that Dave? Come over here and f****** do that."

Calm down love. Dave got stuck into a couple of free beers instead.

As The Morning Rain Soaked Me To The Bones

Oasis fan Ashleigh went along to Abbey Road last week (6/12) to try to meet Oasis outside the world famous studios, this is his story.....

I got there for around 10 in the morning. It was pretty cold and pouring with rain all morning. I just waited outside all morning not 100% if the band would even be there. Around 11am, a black cab turned up and out came who I believe to be Dave Sardy. At around half-past 11 Jason Rhodes who I recognize from videos etc came out jumped in his car and drove off.

I then waited around for another hour when I saw Jason Rhodes driving back down the road and in the passenger seat is Noel Gallagher. I waited by the car as Noel got out, by now I'm pretty nervous and Noel is on the phone. So I wait a minute then he gets off and I say a very nervous "hello" and ask him to sign my Definitely Maybe and I get Jason Rhodes to take a pic of me and Noel. I then thank him then Noel goes off into the studio.

I wait around for 10 more minutes and a cab pulls up. Who pulls out of the cab Zak followed by Liam. Liam seemed really friendly and signed my Definitely Maybe cover and Zak took the pic the pic of me and Liam.

I decided not to wait for anyone else as I was absolutely freezing and soaking wet.

Arctic Monkeys, Oasis, Dave Grohl For Led Zeppelin Show Tonight

Paris Hilton is also going...

Members of the Arctic Monkeys and Oasis are among an illustrious list of names who have made the guestlist for Led Zeppelin’s one-off reunion show later tonight (December 10th).

Sir Paul McCartney and his daughter, Stella, Lisa Marie and Priscilla Presley and Snow Patrol are also set to watch tonight’s spectacle.

As well as a traditional guestlist, which reportedly includes Kate Moss and Paris Hilton, Led Zeppelin have their own private ‘list’ which features Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl.

Speaking about being included on tonight’s guestlist, Arctic Monkeys’ drummer Matt Helders told the BBC that John Bonham, the band’s original drummer, was one of his biggest influences.

“I will be attending on Monday, I only found out yesterday (December 8th) that I could go though, I kind of forgot about it, obviously it's a big thing but yesterday we were told someone had got us tickets as a gift so I am very excited about that,” he said.

The band’s performance at the O2 Arena in London tonight attracted over 1 million ticket applications for just 18,000 tickets.

Demand was so high that one fan donated £83,000 to the BBC’s Children In Need in order to get a pair of tickets to the show.

Support at tonight’s concert will come from a number of Atlantic Records artists, including, Pete Townshend and Paolo Nutini.

MOJO's Greatest Pics: Oasis, 2005

Oasis by Zed Nelson, 2005

The route that took MOJO, Oasis and Zed Nelson to South-East London’s Rivoli Ballroom was a weird one. Originally the cover shoot was set for The Water Rats club in King’s Cross – the venue in January 1994 of Oasis’s second London show. But the romantic, lager-fugged reminiscences of the MOJO art team were cruelly dashed by the daytime reality, the crushed velvet decadence of our memories turning into cig ash and gaffer tape before our eyes.

In the end, we transplanted our visions of deep reds and faded opulence south of the river. But the technical demands of the venue nearly derailed the shoot before it began.

“The Rivoli Ballroom was such a massive space,” recalls Nelson, equally well-known for his edgy reportage as he is for his fresh portraiture. “It looked beautiful, but lighting it was a nightmare. It meant a really slow shutter speed, which in turn meant the band had to stand really still. But controlling Oasis is hard enough at the best of times. It’s like going into a zoo and having to tame the silverback gorillas.”

Nelson’s team were blessed with an unexpected ally: Liam Gallagher’s hangover. While drink can often make the Oasis singer even more volatile, his pre-prandial crapulence rendered him as docile as a puppy. While Nelson got on with the snappery, it was up to other members of the MOJO team to defuse the entourage…

“I was trying to get good pictures of Liam and Noel,” says Nelson, “but the PR was agitating to make sure the other guys were in the pics – it became a diplomatic dance, almost a comedy really. It’s hard to get an interesting dynamic with a group – in the end, it’s four guys in a line – but with Liam and Noel it’s a more complicated relationship, and that’s what you’re trying to capture. Luckily, everyone got what they wanted in the end.”

Ultimately, reckons Nelson, if you keep thing in mind, rock portraiture should never pose insuperable problems.

“Basically, half the people that pretend not to give a fuck desperately do give a fuck. The people who really don’t give a fuck are actually quite easygoing.”

Dominant Mayweather Stops Hatton

Floyd Mayweather put on a vintage display to stop Ricky Hatton in the 10th round and retain his WBC welterweight crown in Las Vegas.

Manchester's Hatton, 29, applied most of the pressure in the early rounds and found some success with some big lefts.

But Mayweather let his hands go in the middle rounds, with his fierce left finding its target as Hatton attacked.

And the champion floored Hatton with two big lefts in the 10th before ending it with a devastating left hook.

Watch The News conference: Ricky Hatton
Watch The News conference: Floyd Mayweather

Official figures put the British attendance at 4,000, but there must have been close to three times that number in the MGM Grand Arena by the time the bell rang for the opening round.

With the strains of Blue Moon still ringing in his ears, light-welterweight king Hatton started quicker and wobbled Mayweather with two big right hands in the first round.

Mayweather started to find his range in round two, landing with one sweet right from way back, although Hatton appeared to nick the third courtesy of some powerful lefts to the body.

Hometown fighter Mayweather stepped up a gear in round four, sending home one huge right to the head and picking the challenger off with some dazzling combinations.

Hatton's corner went to work on a cut over his left eye at the end of the round and it was becoming clear that the champion's slick shots were taking their toll.

Mayweather was happy to soak up Hatton's constant pressure in round five, but round six proved to be the turning point of the fight, with Mayweather landing at will with flashing left hooks and jabs and Hatton having a point deducted by referee Joe Cortez for clubbing right to the back of the neck.

Surprisingly, Mayweather was happy to fight inside for long periods and by the seventh round it was clear he was as strong as Hatton and had the measure of him at close range.

He continued to pick Hatton off with counters before jolting 'The Hitman' with a crunching right hand just before the end of the round.

Mayweather started to show the full range of his talents in round eight, sending home a stinging right cross and a left-right combination to the body that had Hatton grimacing.

Mayweather then let go with two lefts that sent Hatton reeling before befuddling Hatton further with nine or 10 unanswered punches.

Hatton became an easier target the longer the fight wore on, and in the battle of the jabs, Mayweather was king, landing 40% to the Englishman's 17%.

Round nine was all Mayweather, the Michigan native teeing off on Hatton with quicksilver lefts and stiff rights and finishing off the round with two stabbing jabs.

Before the 10th round, Hatton's fans were acutely aware that their hero was in need of a knockout, but the fairytale ending was not forthcoming.

Mayweather landed with two huge left hooks that sent Hatton sprawling and sent him to the canvas again with a tremendous left hook.

Referee Cortez called a halt to proceedings before Hatton had hit the floor, a minute and 35 seconds into the round, leaving 'The Hitman's' legion of fans stunned.

The judges' scores at the time of the stoppage were: 88-82, 89-81, 89-81.

Mayweather, often maligned for being cocky, was admirable and gracious in victory, hurrying to check up on and praise his vanquished foe.

"He kept coming and I see why they call him the Hitman. He's one hell of a fighter but I took care of business and did the job," said Mayweather.

"I wanted to show the fans that I still got it. I have nothing else to prove to the world."

Hatton suggested that he would continue to box despite the pain of defeat.

"I'm the best at light-welter and I fought the best at welter. I'd rather give praise to my opponent. My pride is hurt more than the punches."
