The Next Big Thing Jersey Budd...

Leicester is a hotbed for musical talent at the moment, with Kasabian now one of the major forces in the UK music scene, and there friend Jersey Budd is about to join them at the top of the UK music charts.

Inspired by his fathers love of Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Lou Reed, Cat Stevens, Paul Weller, and also later captivated by Oasis, Jersey picked up a guitar as a teenager and taught himself to play.

The result is a collection of classically crafted songs, shaped by his peers, yet effortlessly his own; his unique voice, soul, and talent for a melody having led to Jersey being tipped as one to watch after only a handful of gigs, albeit supporting Kasabian, The Enemy, The Rifles and Hard Fi.

Jersey is currently recording his debut album in Leicester after the instant sell out of his debut single in August. His 2nd single is due out Jan 2008. Listen out for him and watch him grow.

Noel Gallagher "Jersey is colossal and he's going to be huge next year."

Serge Pizzorno "Great voice and a great talent."

The Sun “A plumber by day, Jersey is set to kiss kitchen sinks goodbye with his gravelly tones and Dylanesque guitar. This boy is going to be as big as fellow Leicester lads Kasabian.”

NME "Jersey has KOKO eating out of his guitar hardened hands, storming through Oasis go honky tonk rollock rockers like Shotgun Times to nothing less than adulation"

Tom (The Enemy) "Jersey's got one of the best fucking voices I've ever heard"

Leicester Mercury "There are loads of male singer/songwriters out there at the moment, and there will be the inevitable comparisons with James Blunt, Paulo Nutini and James Morrison, but the truth is, he's nothing like them."

Vodafone's Live At The Chapel Series 2

Vodafone's intimate chapel shows make their way onto the second instalment of the album releases.

Live compilation CD’s have a funny little dynamic…particularly when the songs making up the album span from a variety of shows. They tend to lose that sense of continuity that a good album possesses, it feels jerky and rough and it’s often an uncomfortable listen. Unfortunately, despite some fantastic performances, Vodafone’s Live at the Chapel follows the same fate. What it lacks in a steady ebb and flow though, it more than makes up with excellent live performances and impeccable sound quality, delivered straight from a 150 year old bluestone chapel in Victoria’s South Yarra.

Ranging from a variety of local favourites to a few international heavyweights, Live at the Chapel puts together a much loved line-up of artists spanning rock, blues and pop to deliver a 17-track collection that captures the intimacy of the venue and, for the most, the talent of the performers.

The album begins with a sombre rendition of Eskimo Joe’s ‘Black Fingernails, Red Wine’ before immediately hitting the peak of the album in a stunning live performance by Michael Franti & Spearhead. A soft, breezy version of ‘Sometimes’ is followed by ‘Everybody Deserves Music’ reaching a crescendo which isn’t matched for the rest of the album. While Franti lifts the album to another level, The Veronicas do the polar opposite…delivering a poor performance of a poor song that actually makes you wish they were miming this time.

Other highlights include Noel Gallagher’s crooning ‘Slide Away,’ a high energy performance of ‘Come On Come On’ by Little Birdy and a couple of great tracks by John Mayer that make this album an enjoyable listen for the most.

Live at the Chapel is a good album. You can listen to it start to finish and aside from a few jabs at the skip button, you’ll probably like it. It’s just marred by the fact that we’ve heard it all before…Something For Kate is on the radio every day, Evermore are inescapable and Wolfmother is aurally plastered across every ad, movie and TV show you stumble upon. The album covers a broad range of musical genres, with a focus on the commercial, so it’s very much a cut and paste of the tracks that have been on high rotation on commercial radio the last few years. While there are some golden moments, the solid gold is tarnished by far too many average versions of average songs and thus makes it an average album. It’s hard to criticise the album since I find myself going back to it to listen to Franti and Gallagher, but 6 or 7 songs don’t make an album and since the album spans so many genres, it’s likely there will only be 6 or 7 that you’ll like.

Live at the Chapel is an excellent purchase for anybody with a sonic range that covers the entire artist line-up, but for those that are a little pickier, you’ll struggle to listen to the album from start to finish without wearing out the skip button on your stereo.

Impressionist Stevie Ricks made the first promotional video for votes.

The biggest selling newspaper in the UK, calls the video 'The Best Thing On The T'internet'

Stevie Ricks made yet another video for the site, that was even funnier then the first.

Tonight the site wins Best Unofficial Site, at The BT Music Awards and the party begins.

Stay tuned there will be another video coming soon, the final in the voting trilogy.

I had no idea that the site had won the award, until I saw it come up on the DMA blog. I sent them a e-mail telling them that I could not make it to the show on Sunday, and that was the last I heard from them.

Once again thanks for voting, I have had a right blast on the voting campaign...

Lord Don't Slow Me Down Review

Video: Oasis: "Lord Don't Slow Me Down"

Is it better to slow down than fade away? The lads of Oasis don't think so. While contemporaries Radiohead are busy turning the music industry on its head, the Gallagher brothers' band's first digital-only single, "Lord Don't Slow Me Down", is a bluesy sub-Dandy Warhols addiction rave-up that probably wouldn't have merited a B-side during their (What's the Story) Morning Glory? heyday. "I'm tired, and I'm sick/ I gotta habit that a cat won't lick," Noel rasps. "I feel hungover and I'm all in love/ Let the lights go down, me and you are gonna shoot 'em up."

The video is a black-and-white montage of Oasis tour footage, presumably from the band's forthcoming Lord Don't Slow Me Down rockumentary. There they are driving into Hollywood or arriving in Japan, cameras flashing, roadies waving; Noel even celebrates a birthday with a little person bearing cake. Like the single, though-- a holdover from the Don't Believe the Truth sessions-- the video comes across as a bit of an afterthought. At least you didn't pre-order it for 40 quid.

Taken from the BT Awards 2007 website

More People’s Choice Awards now, and the Best Unofficial Website goes to the UK’s fastest growing Oasis fansite, Stop Crying Your Heart Out. Liam and Noel would be so pleased if they were here- either that or they’d be having a fight.

Oasis Borrow Inspiral Carpets' Organ

Oasis have been borrowing Inspiral Carpets star Clint Boon's organ to record their new album.

The Manchester band, who Noel Gallagher once roadied and auditioned with, revealed the news about the 'Wonderwall' rockers' latest album.

Lead singer Tom Hingley told Xfm: "I know that Oasis have been borrowing Clint’s Farfisa organ for their latest album that they’re working on."

Hingley added that they might even get the Gallagher brothers to join them on their forthcoming tour to celebrate.

He commented: "The last time I saw Liam and Noel was when we played at the V Festivals back in 2003 so yeah, they might come. It would be lovely if they came."

On This Day In Oasis History...

(What's the Story) Morning Glory? is the second album by the English rock band Oasis, released on October 2 1995. The album went straight to #1 in the UK, selling 347,000 copies in its first week. (What's the Story) Morning Glory? spawned four hit singles in the UK, two of which were #1s. It sold over 19 million copies worldwide, including over 4.3 million copies in the UK, 14x platinum, and is currently the third biggest-selling album in UK chart history. Morning Glory has gone 4x platinum in the United States In addition, the singles "Wonderwall" and "Champagne Supernova" went Gold in the United States.

The album, which was recorded in less than two weeks, contains arguably the band's two most famous songs, "Wonderwall" and "Don't Look Back in Anger", along with "Champagne Supernova" and their first UK #1 single, "Some Might Say".

In 1997 Morning Glory was named the 5th greatest album of all time in a 'Music of the Millennium' poll conducted by HMV, Channel 4, The Guardian and Classic FM. In 1998 Q magazine readers placed it at number 8, and in 2000 it achieved the same position in Q's list of the 100 Greatest British Albums Ever. The editors of Q magazine declared it the "album of the decade" in 1999. The readers of Q placed it seventh on the 2006 top 100 greatest albums of all time list. In 2003, the album was ranked number 376 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

History

The success of Morning Glory catapulted Oasis from being a successful Britpop band to being one of the biggest bands in Britain, with substantial international fame, and considerable press coverage in the mainstream and music press. The band played several massive open air concerts in the UK during 1996, which included two nights at Knebworth in front of a combined audience of 250,000 people (125,000 each night), with over 2.5 million applying to buy tickets.

Tracklisting

01: "Hello" (Gallagher/Glitter/Leander) – 3:21
02: "Roll with It" – 4:00
03: "Wonderwall" – 4:19
04: "Don't Look Back in Anger" – 4:48
05: "Hey Now!" – 5:41
06: Untitled (aka "The Swamp Song - Excerpt 1") – 0:43
07: "Some Might Say" – 5:31
08: "Cast No Shadow" – 4:52
09: "She's Electric" – 3:40
10: "Morning Glory" – 5:03
11: Untitled (aka "The Swamp Song - Excerpt 2") – 0:41
12: "Champagne Supernova" – 7:27

Notes:

* Tracks 6 and 11 are officially untitled. In fact, the track listing bears no title whatsoever for these songs, merely a blank space.
* The excerpts from "The Swamp Song" are parts of the instrumental B-side to the "Wonderwall" single.
* The vinyl LP edition of the album features a bonus track, "Bonehead's Bank Holiday". This song appears as the 7th track on the album, immediately after the 43-second untitled track.
* "Step Out" had to be removed from the album at the last minute. The song, sung by Noel, was intended to have been the original track 8 (after "Some Might Say" and before "Cast No Shadow"), but was removed as the chorus was similar to the chorus of Stevie Wonder's 1965 track "Uptight (Everything's Alright)". Wonder's publishing company were alleged to have demanded a substantial amount of royalties from the album which Oasis weren't prepared to pay, so the track was removed, although not before the first promotional copies of the album had been released with "Step Out" included. The track was eventually released as a B-side on Oasis' 1996 single "Don't Look Back in Anger", with an amended song writing credit of 'Gallagher/Wonder/Cosby/May', and was included on the live album Familiar to Millions.

Miscellanea

"Hello" contains elements of Gary Glitter's "Hello Hello I'm Back Again" as Liam jokingly sings part of the song's chorus when the song begins to fade out.

On the cover of the album a man is seen brandishing what looks to be a vinyl record in its sleeve. This is in fact the master tape for the album. The man in question is Owen Morris, the producer. The photo was taken on Berwick Street in Soho, a London street well known for its independent record shops. The other man is BBC London's Sean Rowley.

Liam Gull-agher In New Picture

Liam Gallagher confessed earlier this week that he thought his voice on Oasis’s early songs sounded like Looney Tunes cartoon favourite Tweety Bird.

And judging by this picture, it seems brother Noel also reckons Liam’s a bit of a bird.

The painting by James Wilkinson, of pop art company paintpop.com, shows Noel holding a cage. Inside is a seagull-like bird with Liam’s head attached.

Inspired by 2003 Oasis hit Songbird, James began working on the piece the following year and completed it last January. He said: “Noel signed it and added some of Liam’s lyrics from Songbird.

“Noel found it amusing — although he was a bit worried about Liam’s reaction to using his lyrics on the painting.”

Andy Bell's DJ Set From London

Oasis bassist Andy Bell spun some tunes for an hour at the This Feeling clubnight on Friday night (September 29), prompting an attack of camera-phones around the DJ booth.

Bell wasn't amused by the scurry, and snubbed fan requests for pictures, while he span his Gallagher-approved set, which featured the likes of The Chemical Brothers and Simian Mobile Disco.

He'd obviously cheered up later though, as he was spotted drinking champers with a few wags.

Liam Gallagher Has Advice For Arctic Monkeys

Liam Gallagher has given Arctic Monkeys some advice during a recent interview with Mojo.

The charismatic Oasis front man said, "I look at bands now, Arctic Monkeys, and they're uncomfortable, and I think, 'Where's your head at, man?'. I love 'em, but it's just like, 'en-fucking-joy it.' They're embarrassed by fame? Yeah, it's embarrassing being fam... well, it's not embarrassing being in a rock'n'roll band."

He also added, "If you're embarrassed about your dream then God fucking help you. I'd be more embarrassed to call myself a poet. Fucking right."

Speaking of his own success with Oasis, Liam Gallagher also said: "Everything just felt right. Everything that we'd worked for. Nothing felt weird - it felt deserved, and I didn't feel uncomfortable with any of it. I fucking loved it. And I think you were able to tell I fucking loved it."
