Oasis Fans' Tickets Joy

Fans queued overnight to buy tickets for Oasis' two huge Heaton Park gigs before they went on sale this morning.

The Gallagher Brothers will play in front of 140,000 fans at the park as part of their Dig Out Your Soul World Tour next June.

About 200 eager gig-goers queued from 11pm yesterday (Thursday) at Zavvi, in the Arndale Centre, to be the first to get their hands on Oasis tickets when they went on sale at 10am today.

The two 70,000 crowds at the 650-acre Heaton Park will be the biggest since the Pope visited north Manchester 26 years ago in 1982.

Online retailers said they had no more tickets available minutes after they were released to the public.

The sought-after tickets were sold for £45 - but online retailers were selling them for more than £100 even before box offices opened this morning.

Hit bands Kasabian and The Enemy will be supporting Oasis at the gigs on Saturday June 6 and Sunday June 7 next year.

Emma Guqiarrez, 18, and her friend Marie-Laure Simon, 20, who work as au pairs in Urmston, but are from Marseille, in France, queued from 11.30pm.

Emma said: "I've never seen Oasis I have to take the opportunity to see them in Manchester now I am here, I'm so excited I can't believe I am going to see Oasis in their home town.

"We've been queuing for ages, it feels like I have been here forever but it's been quite fun. We've got to know quite a few people here."

Nikul Shaw, 21, from Fallowfield, an economics student at Manchester University was in the queue from 11pm.

He said: "I had to be here early to guarantee I would get a ticket, I'm a massive fan of Oasis, I saw them in Wembley last week. I've seen them dozens of times but it's going to be amazing to see them in Manchester at Heaton Park.

"It has been a long night but it's definitely been worth it, they just keep getting better and better.

"The atmosphere's going to be amazing, now I just have to wait for the gig."

The Gallagher brothers will also play at The Stadium Of Light, Sunderland, Slane Castle in Dublin, Cardiff's Millennium Stadium, Murrayfield in Edinburgh and at Wembley Stadium next summer.

An estimated 250,000 people visited Heaton Park for the visit of Pope John Paul II on 31 May 1982.

Man Charged With Attack On Oasis' Noel Gallagher Due In Toronto Court Today

A man charged with attacking Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher at a Toronto festival is due in court today.

A man ran onto the stage during a performance at the Virgin Festival in early September and pushed Gallagher from behind.

Gallagher fell onto his speakers, bruising his ribs and hip.

He said later that he thought he had been stabbed .

Gallagher said he was "hit really hard" and initially didn't want to go to hospital and continued playing.

But he quickly changed his mind after feeling an "almighty pain."

At the start of October - a month later - he was still on pain medication for three broken and dislodged ribs.

The attack prompted Oasis to reschedule a performance in London, Ontario to December 15th.

Forty-seven-year-old Daniel Sullivan is charged with assault.

What's The Story? Morning Glory For Oasis Fans

About 1,000 Oasis fans queued at the Stadium of Light today as tickets went on sale for the Wearside leg of the band's UK tour.

Crowds were so large that stadium officials brought forward the sale of tickets from 10am to 8am.

Hundreds had braved strong winds and the cold night to camp outside, eager to see the concert on June 10.

Devotees of the Britpop supergroup began queuing on Wednesday to make sure they got one of the 4,000 tickets available at the stadium, and were joined by hundreds more this morning.

Christopher McGowan, 22, of Hylton Castle, who was first in the queue, had been waiting since noon on Wednesday.

He said: "It feels great now, having the tickets in my hand. This is the first time I've seen them. It's going to be mint!"

His friend Philip Young, 25, of Hylton Castle said: "It's been amazing queueing. It's been very cold but it feels great now that I've got them. It's been worth the wait. I'm over the moon but I'm going to bed now because I am shattered!"

Chelsay Scott, 18, of Fulwell has been waiting since 3pm yesterday. She said: "I've finally got them, it's taken forever and it was really cold last night. Now I can't wait to see them."

Stuart Metcalf, 25, of Fence Houses was still queueing at 8.30am. He had been waiting for 14 hours. He said: "I saw them last week at Cardiff but I really want to see them in Sunderland. I came straight from work and will be going straight to work so I hope I get them."

Jenny Cook, 28, of Gosforth, Newcastle had just arrived at 8.30am. She said: "I'm really hoping to get tickets. I've loved Oasis since their first album and I've been to see them twice before but to see them in the North East would be amazing."

The Mancunian band, which was propelled to fame in the Nineties with smash hit debut album Definitely Maybe, will be supported by two other massive acts - Kasabian and The Enemy - in what has been called a massive coup for the city.

Oasis Triumph Over Queues And Confusion

Rockers Oasis kicked off the first gig of their two-night stint at Cardiff International Arena in style last night.

It’s the Manchester band’s first UK tour for more than two years and coincides with the release of their seventh studio album, Dig Out Your Soul.

Having sold out last night’s and tonight’s gigs in a matter of hours it’s clear their popularity is still running high in Wales.

Confusion initially reigned outside as thousands of fans armed with tickets were left queuing in the rain just minutes before Oasis were due on stage.

John Appleby, 27, a civil servant from Rumney, Cardiff, said: “I’m one of many thousands going to see the Oasis gig. It’s 8.40pm now and the lads are going on at 9pm but there are still people queuing around the CIA and down Charles Street. They’re searching absolutely everyone, so half the people are going to miss at least the first 20 minutes of the gig.

“I paid £35 for my ticket but there are touts everywhere who have charged about £100 for a ticket. I just can’t believe it.”

After a mad scramble to get everyone in, Oasis finally got on stage about 9pm much to the crowd’s delight.

Strolling on stage enigmatic frontman Liam Gallagher launched straight into Rock n Roll Star, followed quickly by the smash hit Lala.

Songs from early albums including Definitely Maybe and cherry-picked from the best of less successful albums like Standing on the Shoulder of Giants featured. Tracks from the new critically-acclaimed album included The Shock of the Lightening, To Be Where There’s Life and the fantastic Waiting for the Rapture.

It was difficult to hear some of the classics such as Wonderwall or Don’t Look Back In Anger over the deafening sing-a-long coming back from the crowd.

Noel seemed to be showing no ill-effects of the fractured ribs he sustained when a fan pushed him over on stage in Canada last month. His injury had thrown the tour into a bit of doubt but his superb vocals proved he is back to his best.

These gigs will help to wet the appetite for next summer’s stadium tour when they will be supported by the equally-cocky, but also brilliant, Kasabian and outstanding young rockers The Enemy.

Tickets for next summer’s super-gig at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff go on sale this morning and last night’s show will have fans rushing out to buy tickets.

Oasis Are A Blast In Cardiff

The old ones are the best, says Gavin Allen, who was at Thursday's Oasis gig in Cardiff

Oasis at CIA

Oasis showed exactly what fans will be paying for at the Millennium Stadium next summer with the first of their two dates at Cardiff International Arena last night.

Having shifted around 15,000 tickets for these two CIA gigs they will be looking to at least double that number, if not quadruple it, on June 12, 2009 when Kasabian and The Enemy will join them to ruin the turf for Welsh sports teams.

On this evidence Oasis are still well worth the ticket price.

They compiled an interesting set list; heavy on hits and their first two albums in particular, with one B-side and a smattering of tracks from the new album, Dig Out Your Soul.

Live, the new album is seemingly not as good as their last, Don’t Believe The Truth, with The Importance Of Being Idle getting a great reception and Lyla, despite Liam destroying the vocal as badly as he might have in 1994, getting the place stomping.

It’s easy to say that Oasis are not as good as they used to be, and very true, yet there is no denying they still carry their primal power of yore at times.

From the eruption of excitement that greeted Rock N Roll star – the security guards earning their money as a river of people swelled dangerously against the crash barriers – to the stunning melody of The Masterplan, the best stuff was the oldest.

You cannot deny Slide Away, Columbia or Cigarettes and Alcohol, which an on-form Liam – lobbing tambourines into the crowd - dedicated to Katherine Jenkins for reasons unknown.

Liam’s best moment came during The Shock Of the Lightening when a white jumper flew from the crowd and landed on Noel’s head, refusing to budge; Noel looked like a caught fish as he tried to shake it off without disturbing this guitar line.

Liam strode over and stood in front of him protectively before surreally threatening, "if you want to make people look stupid I’ll make you look like your grandma."

Noel excelled where expected, in the big songs, and there were huge responses for Wonderwall and Don’t Look Back In Anger, on which a 7,500-strong Welsh choir offered their voices in full heart.

As the gig edged towards a climax they relied on older material, Champagne Supernova among a four-track encore that eventually closed on I Am The Walrus.

"See you next year at that stadium over there," concluded Gallagher senior.
Maybe, Noel, but not definitely.

The worldwide superstars were due to visit Eden on September 27 this year to kick-start their new UK tour, but were forced to postpone the gig after Noel Gallagher was injured on stage in Toronto.

Disappointed fans were left in limbo, not knowing if their sought-after tickets would come to nothing.

Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere

Fuck me! They were 2 big, big nights in London, 'specially the Friday. One of the best I've ever been to anyway. Apologies for the 1st night, it being filmed by MTV and all. It felt a bit like doing the Brits or summat. I've never seen so many TV presenters back stage. If someone would have let a bomb off at one point they could well have wiped out most of ITV's 2, 3 and 4!! Who are these people with?

Got to see the actual Wembley Stadium on Thursday. We had a photo call/press conference there. And much fun it was too. We were promoting the super-gigs that are happening next summer. Maybe you've heard? Maybe you've not!! Come along anyway. All are welcome. They're gonna be very brilliant nights. Decade defining nights. Don't be saying in 10 years time you were there if you weren't. The on-going war against hypocrisy and indifference takes us to Bournemouth tonight. If I don't see you there I'll see you in Cardiff maybe.

In a bit.

GD.

Enemy Rocking Like Oasis

The Enemy will emulate their idols Oasis by keeping it rock and roll on their new album.

They were hand-picked to support the Gallaghers’ outfit on their 2009 stadium tour.

And the Coventry trio got a huge big-up from Noel Gallagher, 41, when he declared: “I’ve liked The Enemy ever since I heard their first single.”

Now frontman Tom Clarke, drummer Liam Watts and bassist Andy Hopkins, all 20, are demo-ing tracks for the follow-up to No 1 debut We’ll Live And Die In These Towns.

Liam told me: “We’ve always been big fans of Oasis. They are normal lads who’ve always stayed true to themselves. That’s what we’re about.

“Just because guitar music has taken a dip in the charts lately doesn’t mean we’re suddenly going to start experimenting with electro or anything.

“We’re not going to change what we do best, like them.

“We’ve got about 30 new tracks that we need to fine-tune before going into the studio. The next album is going to be just as diverse but less polished.

“We wanted to get a raw, punkier feel to it, closer to the sound you hear when we play live.”

The lads are gearing up to headline Friday’s Freesports On 4 Freeze Festival at Battersea Power Station in London.

Oasis To Cover Rolling Stones At BBC Electric Proms

Oasis to cover Rolling Stones at BBC Electric Proms

Gallaghers to enlist a 50-piece choir

Oasis plan to rope in a 50-piece choir to cover a song by The Rolling Stones at BBC Electric Proms this weekend.

The Manchester rockers headline the Camden Roundhouse on Sunday (October 26) for the third year of the London-wide celebrations.

Traditionally rock bands have hooked up with classical musicians for the shows. And Noel Gallagher has revealed that the band are planning to cover the Stones' classic 'We Love You' with the Crouch End Festival Chorus.

The guitarist told BBC 6Music that the plans sprang from aborted sessions for new album 'Dig Out Your Soul'.

"Out of all the songs on the album, there's two that didn't make it that have got a 50-piece choir," he said. "The original idea for this album was to record it with this choir in Abbey Road and for whatever reason it didn't happen.

"When we got offered the Proms, we called them up and said, 'I know we let you down last time but do you fancy getting up and doing a few tunes?' I think they're going to sing on a third of the set and we're hoping to do 'We Love You'."

Gallagher did not reveal whether the abandoned album tracks will get an airing at the show.

Our Guide To Cardiff

With Oasis set to play two nights in the Cardiff International Arena this week, this is stopcryingyourheartout.com guide to the wonder full city that is Cardiff.

Cardiff is the capital and most populated city in Wales.

As well as being the political capital, it's Wales's centre for business, education, sport, tourism, culture, media and government.

The city of Cardiff is the county town of the historic county of Glamorgan renamed later to South Glamorgan).

It was a small town until the early 19Th century and came to prominence as a major port for the transport of coal following the arrival of industry in the region.

Cardiff was made a city in 1905, and proclaimed capital of Wales in 1955.

During the past 10 years Cardiff has firmly established itself as one of the UK’s top tourist destinations.

Cardiff is a lively, engaging and cosmopolitan city with something to offer every visitor.

From top sporting events at the Millennium Stadium, to World-class stage performances at the Wales Millennium Centre, not to mention the UK’s biggest free outdoor summer festival, and home to Cardiff City Football club the list goes on...

Cardiff is regularly voted one of the best drinking destinations in the UK, little wonder, with over 40 pubs and bars in and around St Mary Street alone!

Historic and cultural attractions include the National Museum, Cardiff Castle, Castell Coch and the Welsh Folk Museum in St Fagans.

The central location of the Cardiff International arena means that the city centre is awash with fans before and after a big concert

Oasis first played in Cardiff on the 2nd June 1994 at the University city hall and have returned to the city numerous times since then.

Oasis last played in Cardiff at The Millennium Stadium on 10th December 2005, when they were joined with The Foo Fighters, RazorLight And The Coral for Noise & Confusion 2005.

Oasis return to the city to play The Millennium Stadium next summer on June the 12th with special guests Kasabian and The Enemy.

Current Bass player Andy Bell was born in the city on August 11th 1970 and stopcryingyourheartout.com was created in Adamsdown, Cardiff in 2004.

Oasis Has Sunderland Buzzing

News that Oasis are stopping off in Sunderland has excited local musicians.

Kenny Sanger, of The Bunker, and The Futureheads bassist Jaff, believe the Rock 'n' Roll Stars' announcement that they will play the Stadium of Light will put the city on the country's music map.

And they reckon it will inspire a generation of young musicians across Wearside to get out their guitars and start strumming.

"It's great news," said Kenny, who is behind Sunderland Music Forum (SMF). "I think for young aspiring bands and musicians to see big artists come to the city will motivate them and generate more interest.

Hopefully, that will filter down to some of the smaller gigs in the city."

Jaff, who is also involved with SMF, added: "I think this will give people a push to learn how to play instruments, and that's exactly what the North East needs.

"I think sometimes we miss out on these things. Travelling tours don't really stop off here and touring bands coming to the area will definitely inspire a lot of people, especially a band like Oasis."

Washington-born singer Martin Stephenson, who found fame with his band Martin Stephenson and the Daintees in the 80s, also welcomed the news.

He said: "Wow. On a basic level this will definitely really help things like tourism and the city's reputation nationally. I think it's great."

Last week, the band, who exploded on to the music scene in 1994 with Definitely Maybe and went on to sell more than 50 million records worldwide, announced they would play six open air venues across the UK next summer.

"This is great for the area," said Jaff, who plans to see Oasis, who will be supported by Kasabian and The Enemy.

"Often big bands miss out Sunderland, and Oasis could easily have gone to Gateshead or the Metro Radio Arena.

"It's great that they've chosen Sunderland because the more things that come into the area, the more people there are that want to be in bands."
Kenny added: "We have a lack of venues or established music venues that can attract bands like these so it's great to see the hard work people at the club have put in."

Coun Mel Speding, member for culture and leisure at Sunderland Council, said: "It's fantastic news for Sunderland that Oasis will play at the Stadium of Light and in view of our aspirations for Sunderland to develop as a music city, it's hugely important.

"A performance by Oasis in Sunderland will have a major impact, not just on fans of the band, but also on all young people in the city with a love for music.

"Congratulations to Sunderland Football Club and all those who have worked so hard to make this happen. Let's hope it's the first of many high-profile events to come.
