Canadian Officials Fear Media Circus And Turn Down Gallagher's Request

Officials in Canada have turned down Noel Gallagher's request to appear at his attacker's sentencing hearing amid fears it will become a media circus.

The former Oasis rocker was left with three broken ribs after Danny Pickering lunged at him during one of the band's shows in Toronto, Canada in September 2008.

The 48 year old pleaded guilty to assault and Gallagher formally requested he be present at the sentencing hearing in Toronto to read the victim impact statement in person.

A judge previously ruled that Gallagher was entitled to be present and postponed the hearing date to accommodate the musician's schedule.

But now prosecutor Ruth Kleinhenz-Nelson has revealed officials have decided Gallagher should not attend because of the publicity surrounding the case, according to the Toronto Star.

The sentencing hearing has been rescheduled for 23 March (10), while Pickering's defence lawyer, John Collins, has called the delays "frustrating for me and my client.

NME Awards Live Updates

Oasis failed to pick up any of the awards at the NME Shockwaves Awards at the O2 Academy Brixton, in south London.

Paul Weller closed the show after receiving the godlike genius award, presented to him by Bobby Gillespie and Mick Jones.

Weller performed songs from across his musical career, and was joined on stage by former Oasis guitarist Gem Archer.

UK Tabloid Apologises To Noel Gallagher

On Sunday one of the UK tabloids carried a story that Noel made derogatory comments about Liam's new band.

The claims made in the article and the quotes attributed to Noel were untrue.

Noel has never made any comment regarding Liam's new band.

The newspaper concerned has subsequently withdrawn the story and apologised to Noel for their error.

Oasis In Running For Three NME Awards

Oasis are in the running for three awards at a major music event as well as a number of individual awards despite splitting six months ago.

They received three nominations last month for the Shockwaves NME Awards 2010, including best British band.

Arctic Monkeys, whose third album Humbug topped the charts last year, have the highest hopes after landing nods for six awards at the event, which will take place at the O2 Academy Brixton, in south London.

Liam Gallagher Teams Up With Clarks

Liam Gallagher has teamed up with Clarks for a new range of Desert Boots, available through his clothing range Pretty Green later this year.

The Desert Boots will be available in three colours 'Champagne' (above), Black and Brown.

The rumoured price is £99, with a shelf date of July 2010.

Paul Weller is to receive a top honorary prize at this year's NME Awards, the annual Godlike Genius title.

The former frontman for The Jam will receive his award later this month and perform with ex-Oasis man Gem Archer at the event which takes place at the O2 Brixton Academy in south London.

EMI Is Not Selling Abbey Road Studios

Music giant EMI has responded to the recent rumors that it may sell off Abbey Road, the legendary Beatles recording studio in London.

In an official statement released over the weekend, EMI's parent company, Terra Firma, announced that it will not, in fact, sell the aging space, but revitalize it instead.

The statement comes after last week's public outcries from former Beatle Paul McCartney and swirling rumors that composer Andrew Lloyd Webber may swoop in to save the studio.

"In response to recent press speculation, EMI confirms that it is holding preliminary discussions for the revitalization of Abbey Road with interested and appropriate third parties," the company said in the statement.

"Abbey Road studios had, for a number of years, been losing money and we have developed plans to revitalize the studios," EMI added. "These plans would involve a substantial injection of new capital."

Abbey Road has not only hosted recording sessions by such classic rock legends as the Beatles and Pink Floyd; it was also the studio used to record Radiohead's Kid A, as well as albums from Oasis and Snow Patrol.

On This Day In Oasis History...

On February 22, 1998 Oasis played at the HKCEC Hall 3 in Hong Kong ,China.

The venue with a capacity of 10,000 was built in 1997 for the hand over to Chinese rule, Oasis were the first band to play there since the ceremony.

Tickets for the show were sold out many weeks in advance, support for the show came from YOU AM.

On This Day In Oasis History...

On January 22, 1996 Oasis appeared on Top Of The Pops and became the first act since The Jam to perform two songs on the same show, the band played 'Don't Look Back In Anger' followed by their excellent cover of Slade's 'Cum On Feel The Noize'.

Both songs appear on the 'Don't Look Back In Anger' single that was released on the 19th of February 1996 and reached #1 on the UK Singles Chart.

Noel Gallagher Is Consulting His Lawyers Over NOTW Article

Noel Gallagher is consulting his lawyers over an article in today's News of the World attributing derogative remarks about his former band members to the Oasis songwriter. Yet again this tawdry tabloid is fabricating lies about ex-members of Oasis, and has clearly sunk to new depths this time.

In today's paper they write that Noel has made derogatory comments about Liam's new band (which they still insist on referring to as Oasis, another of their many errors). The claims made in the article and the quotes attributed to Noel are simply untrue.

What's more, we have learned that the article was written by the same hack journalist who brought fans the ‘exclusive’ that Liam had recruited a female bass player recently.

The woman named in that article, who's actually a fan website editor, embarrassed the newspaper with a categorical denial within hours of the story surfacing.

Noel Gallagher & Hilda Ogden Set For Coronation Street's 50th Birthday Shows?

Coronation Street is sensationally plotting to bring back its most famous character Hilda Ogden for blockbuster 50th anniversary live episodes.

In a move that could blow EastEnders' huge 25th birthday show last Friday out of the water, a galaxy of Street legends is set to return.

They could also include Mavis Wilton, Curly Watts and Tracy Barlow, as well as a guest appearance by Oasis star Noel Gallagher.

Show chiefs have been hatching plans for dramatic shows featuring movie-style stunts for Corrie's birthday in December.

Our mole added: "This year is the ultimate war of the soaps. EastEnders set the bar high on Friday but Corrie will want to smash it. Whatever happens, they will make it go with a bang."

In an online chat, producer Kim suggested they may also talk to Kate Ford, 32, who played Tracy Barlow. She said: "There may well be some exciting returning cast. It would be fab to see Tracy Barlow back, wouldn't it? "Noel Gallagher would be great as well.

There are also plans for some new faces in the factory."

Noel Gallagher Lays Into John Terry

Few people are fond of love rat John Terry these days - and certainly not Noel Gallagher.

The die-hard Manchester City fan has never hidden his dislike for the Chelsea skipper and now admits he has joined the ever-growing Team Bridge.

I bumped into the mouthy Manc this week and he couldn't wait to fry JT - allegedly caught playing away with Wayne Bridge's ex-girlfriend Vanessa Perroncel.

The ex-Oasis star, 42, told me: "John Terry is a c***." (I'll let you work out the asterisks.)

"I've never liked the bloke but doing that to Bridgey shows what he's like. What an a***hole. If I ever see him I'm not sure what would happen.

"Everyone has got behind Wayne, which is great to see. When Chelsea come to play us Terry is going to get so much s*** and he'll deserve all of it. I hope our boys give him as much abuse as they can and here's a message to the fans - "Give it all you've got".

Noel was enjoying a night out at the War Child concert in London following the Brit Awards on Tuesday when he entertained me with his rant about Terry, 29, who was last month exposed for supposedly scoring with Vanessa, 34.

In July, at the time of speculation that Terry could be joining 29-year-old Bridge at Man City, Noel told of his utter disgust at the planned move. He said: "I don't like John Terry and I never have.

"He's got funny eyes and he's a cry-baby. He's also a Cockney."

His outburst was certainly well timed, as Manchester City visit Chelsea this Saturday.

Noel, left, added: "The best thing City ever did was not sign John Terry. It would have been a huge mistake.

"Now I can't wait to see the s*** he gets and I'll laugh my head off."

Noel Gallagher Reportedly Slams Liam Gallagher's Brits Speech

Star criticises his brother for failing to mention him at ceremony.

Ex-Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher has reportedly criticised his brother Liam Gallagher's acceptance speech at the Brit Awards 2010 earlier this week.

The singer attended the ceremony to accept the honour for Brit Album Of 30 Years award for the 1995 Oasis album '(What's The Story) Morning Glory?', but failed to mention his brother during his acceptance speech.

The singer then threw his microphone and award into the audience as he walked offstage.

Noel Gallagher is believed to have later told a fan: "If he wants to take credit for my band then that's up to him. But every fan knows the truth and that's all that matters."

He also apparently criticised his brother for carrying on with the rest of the remaining band members, reports the News Of The World.

"It's like the fucking Sugababes now," he joked. "They'll be kicking (bass guitarist) Andy Bell out next and replacing him with a leggy blonde.

"Oasis fans don't care what the band look like. But our kid doesn't get that. Fashion is for women and gay men."

Liam Gallagher had an eventful night at the Brits, with the singer also giving an insightful backstage interview where he insinuated that somebody else at the awards had had an argument with him. He was then heard saying that he wanted to get "loads of class A drugs" as the interview ended.

Liam Gallagher and Gem Archer went on the Late Late Show in Dublin, Ireland and played Songbird on February 21 2003.

Liam was also interviewed by host Pat Kenny, but I can't find any video of the interview.

Noel Gallagher Originally Filed $2 Million Statement Of Claim Against Attacker

An intoxicated Daniel Sullivan pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm when with a drunken violent shove pushed guitarist/song writer Noel Gallagher from behind and off stage into a bank of speaker amplifiers breaking three of his ribs.

The incident occurred back in September 2008 during the Virgin Music Festival on the Toronto Island.

Earlier this month of February, Toronto man Daniel (Danny) Sullivan, a now 48 year old from Pickering Ontario, attended a sentencing hearing at downtown Toronto's Old City Hall courthouse.

However, the 'sentencing hearing in front of Mr. Justice Richard Schneider was delayed so that Oasis vocalist Noel Gallagher could attend to make a victim impact statement.' Sourced: CHART Attack

Daniel Sullivan, who is married with children, has never before been in trouble with the law and John Collins (Daniel Sullivan's lawyer) said that this incident was “totally out of character" and that in light of his client's otherwise “exemplary” track record, he would be seeking a conditional, non-custodial sentence. Noel Gallagher stated that it took him about eight months to fully recover. Parallel to the criminal proceedings, Gallagher filed a statement of claim against his attacker Daniel Sullivan (originally charged with aggravated assault), seeking more than $2 million in damages from Sullivan for compromising his ability to perform and having to cancel five gigs. However, prosecutors eventually agreed to the lesser charge of assault.

Mcgee's Sobriety Led To Oasis Success

Creation Records boss Alan Mcgee owes Oasis' success to his own sobriety - because the band would not have made it as big as they did if he'd joined their wild life.

Now retired from the music industry, the man who orchestrated the Britpop trend in the mid 1990s insists the best decision he ever made was to stop drinking and taking drugs as his record label took off.

MCGee tells Nylon magazine, "I stopped doing both (drink and drugs) in 1994... although sometimes I feel it would have been easier if I'd been off my nut.

"It (sobriety) helped me keep hold of them (Oasis)... I needed to be a sober-minded individual to look after Oasis."

The Scottish svengali admits he had "a brief relapse with alcohol" in 2002, but he quit again after his wife made him realise he was becoming "an embarrassment".

He adds, "It started with one glass of wine and ended up with a couple of bottles (a day)."

King Tut's Celebrates 20th Birthday

Biffy Clyro have played a special gig to mark the 20th birthday of an iconic Scottish music venue.
King Tut's Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow made musical history as the place where Manchester band Oasis were discovered and signed by Creation Records during a gig in 1993.

Brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher turned up uninvited with their band and managed to secure a last-minute spot on the bill.

They caught the eye of Creation boss Alan McGee, the rest is history.
