Noel Gallagher was "shocked" by the chart performance of Beady Eye's singles.
The 44-year-old musician insists he took no pleasure from the fact the group - made up of his former bandmates, brother Liam Gallagher, Gem Archer, Chris Sharrock and Andy Bell - have seen their tracks 'Millionaire' and 'The Roller' only reach numbers 71 and 31 in the UK singles chart respectively and says it was a "wake-up call" for his own fledgling solo career.
He said: "Do you know what? To be quite honest, it was a bit of a wake-up call. 'Cos I was like, right, well fing hell, maybe that's what's out there for me, do you know what I mean?
"So when 'The Roller' went in at 30 or whatever I mean, a lot of people were like, 'Fing hell, I bet you're happy with that.' And I was like, 'Not really', I was quite shocked, I thought it would do what Oasis singles do.
"So obviously, someone who puts my record out has got some fing work to do. I was a bit like, 'Wow.' "
Beady Eye released their first track, 'Bring the Light' as a free download but Noel insists he won't be doing the same when launching his solo career because he "values" his music too much.
He added in an interview with NME magazine: "No free downloads. I value my music. I don't sit in a studio, and fing make it up as I go along and go, 'This one's free then.'
"I think if you buy it, you as a listener value it more. I'm just not into free downloads and that's the end of it.
"I never considered it in Oasis and I'd never consider it now."

Noel Gallagher releases the trailer for his new single The Death Of You And Me but insists it is not about his brother Liam.
Noel Gallagher today released the trailer for his new single The Death Of You and Me - a song he has made clear is not about his acrimonious split with his brother Liam.
The debut single for his new band High Flying Birds will be released on 21 August, with the album coming out in October. It will feature 10 new songs he has written. Of his new single, Gallagher said: "The saying is that if you don't leave a place it will be the death of you. The song is about people escaping the surroundings they are in, it's not about me and Liam."
The tedious feud between the brothers came to a head in August 2009 when Noel Gallagher left Oasis two dates before the end of a world tour. Liam had thrown a plum at his brother and then threatened him with a guitar. Liam Gallagher is still embroiled in the feud. Last week he tweeted that his brother was a s---bag and, at a concert in London, talked about his brother while making a hand gesture to imply that his brother had 'height issues' about being the smaller sibling (Liam is 5'10" and Noel 5'7").
Noel Gallagher's new album was co-produced by Noel and David Sardy and recorded in London and Los Angeles. The trailer released today is 47 seconds long. Both Gallagher and its director Mike Bruce describe it as "amazing".
Liam's verdict is not yet in.

Oasis

Noel Gallagher does not think he will play at the same size venues as a solo artist, as he did with Oasis.
Speaking to the NME the former Oasis man said "I don't see me ever being able to stand on stage in a stadium, like a jobbing f**king minstrel with an acoustic guitar, and pull it off in a hour and a half. I just don't I've got that in me. Band's have got more power than f**king jobbing songwriters. Who was the last solo artist to play Wembley Stadium? George Michael.
He added "I don't ever see me playing stadiums. I don't think the demand will be there. I could probably do an arena in Manchester. Probably. But I don't know. I'm just going to see how it goes. it's a nice position to be in, and I've not been in this position since 'Definitely Maybe', where it's just like, 'Well put this album out, don't know what's going to happen.' Whereas in Oasis, you know what's going to happen. And that's great, but anything is possible and I'm not setting any limits on it. But I can safely say. it won't be anyway approaching being as big as Oasis were.never".
Noel Gallagher is set to release his debut album 'Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds' on through his own Sour Mash record label, on October 17th (this date will vary slightly internationally).
The album features ten new songs and was recorded over the past year in London and Los Angeles. It was co-produced by Noel and David Sardy, who Noel has worked with previously.

Noel Gallagher has told the NME that he thinks people stopped listening to Oasis.
He told the NME "people kept coming to the gigs, but stopped listening. It's like if I was sat here today, doing a press conference for a new Oasis album... well I wouldn't be doing a press conference, would I. it'd be like, 'Oh Oasis have a new album out, so what,' That's just the way it is when you go on for so long. Does anyone care for a new Rolling Stones album? They go and see 'em, don't they."

Noel Gallagher has told the NME that he will not give away his music for free as he values his music. He said that "I don't sit in the studio and f**king make it up as I go along, and go, 'this one's free, then.' I think if you just buy it, you as a listener value it more. I'm just not into free downloads, and that's an end of it."
He went on to explain "some of my favourite bands do it, like Kasabian for example, but it's not something I would even consider. I never considered it in Oasis, and I'd never consider it now."

Chris Martin
Coldplay
Noel Gallagher
Oasis

Noel Gallagher's first hurdle as a solo artist will be having to face Coldplay in a battle of the albums.
The guitarist will have a job on his hands to stay at the top of the charts for more than one week this autumn.
Chris Martin and the band are releasing their latest offering seven days later.
The former Oasis star issues his first solo album, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, on October 17.
It's certain to race to No1, but a week later, on October 24, is when Coldplay have scheduled the release of their fifth collection.
It's not the first time Noel and Coldplay have been involved in a chart battle.
Back in 2005 Oasis' Don't Believe The Truth hit shop shelves seven days before the rockers' third album X&Y.
The reign of Don't Believe The Truth at No1 lasted just seven days.
At least we can look forward to an autumn of brilliant new music.

As you can see from the pictures here and below, it was a pretty special moment, despite the weather!
