Liam Gallagher On Playing Live With Coldplay's Chris Martin

Liam Gallagher has spoken about when he joined members of Coldplay to perform Oasis' ‘Live Forever’ at the One Love Manchester charity concert earlier this year.

Liam said that he was “fucking glad he did it”, and that he and Martin were “cool” now.

He told the NME “That was all right, man,” said Gallagher. “We were booked to do a gig in Germany. We were supposed to be on about seven. [Partner and manager] Debbie was going ‘you’ll never guess who keeps fucking emailing me’. I’m like, ‘who? It’s not fucking Noel is it? Tell him to fuck off’. ‘No, fucking Chris Martin’. I’m like ‘what the fuck does he want?’ ‘I dunno what he wants, he just wants to have a word with you’. I’m like ‘does he want a fucking scrap? I’m not in the fucking mood right now, man’.”

Gallagher continued: “Anyway, so then we get on Skype, and he says ‘the Manchester thing, are you up for doing it?’ I think he wanted to do like, ‘Imagine’, and I’m like ‘look, I’m not doing ‘Imagine’, it ain’t happening’. He went ‘oh go on, it’ll be great’. I was like ‘I’m sure it fucking will be great. I’m fucking great and you’re fucking great, but it ain’t happening’. So he goes, ‘oh, would you do an Oasis tune?’ and I said ‘yeah, of course, man’. So then it was ‘Live Forever’.”

Liam Gallagher Calls Calvin Harris "The Most Boring F*cking Person"

An insult from Liam Gallagher is a badge of honour. Whether he's calling Chris Martin "a geography teacher" or laying into the "fucking Amish people" that make up Mumford and Sons, the former frontman's acid tongue is only reserved for those at the top of their game.

So Calvin Harris will be happy to hear that Gallagher has a few choice words for him.

When asked about whether DJs had become the new rock stars in an interview with Huck magazine, the former Oasis singer said: "Not in my world, they haven't. What, Calvin fuckin' Harris? The most boring fucking person? Fuck off, mate... I'll tell you what they've become: the new accountants"

He was then asked if he believed himself to be the greatest living rock icon, to which he replied: "Others have said it and I do believe they're not fucking wrong".

"I think people are starting to realise what they've been missing.

"Someone who's completely 100 percent into it; someone who doesn't bullshit people or stand for bullshit."

Needless to say he took some time out to target Noel, too. He labelled his brother a "Tory boy" and accused him of arranging meetings with Johnny Marr and Paul Weller before Oasis broke up.

"I certainly didn't ruin Oasis," Liam said. "I fucking love Oasis. Why would I want to split it up? It proper fuckin' riles me, that. But real Oasis fans haven't picked sides. They're just like, 'Fuckin' hell, them two.'."

Pharrell Williams Wants To Work With Noel Gallagher

The Happy hit-maker is a massive Oasis fan and approached Noel for a collab.

Their unlikely link-up would be a world away from the “no-nonsense rock ’n roll” his estranged sibling bangs on about.

Noel explained: “Pharrell Williams is a dude, he’s a big fan of mine.

“He asked me to work with him recently. He told me that N*E*R*D were massive fans of Oasis.

“He was No1 in 105 countries when he asked so does he really need to work with the guy from Oasis?”

However, it wasn’t the Oasis songs that really excited fashionista Pharrell.

Noel went on: “He goes: ‘You know what was as important as the songs?’

“And I’m thinking: ‘Nothing was as important as the songs.’ And he goes: ‘The f***ing sweaters man. Your sweaters were cool. Where did you buy the sweaters?’ And I’m thinking: ‘The sweaters?! Better than Live Forever?’ Maybe that’s where I’m going wrong.”

Noel is close mates with Chris Martin these days but he reckons he nearly wrote Coldplay’s big hit before them.

He explained: “I believe that songs are out there and you’ve got to catch them and if Chris Martin hadn’t written it I believe I would have wrote Yellow six months later.”

Liam Gallagher On An Oasis Reunion, Noel, Chris Martin And More

Liam Gallagher has told The Times his brother Noel’s ego is “out of control” and he is preventing an Oasis comeback.

He said: “Mate, it’s not up to me, is it? It’s in the hands of Noel. He’s got the biggest power and that’s what p****s me off. It will depend on how his solo records go because his ego is out of control and he won’t be able to handle it if it dwindles, but he’s obviously got a massive problem with me. “As far as I’m concerned, it was a minor argument that broke up Oasis. We’ve had worse. I heard talk about him doing a solo career five years before, so he used it to jump ship. Right now I can’t give a s**t about Oasis, Noel or his s**t fans.”

Liam, had a go at Noel again for not playing at Ariana Grande’s One Love Manchester benefit concert earlier this month, even though Noel, 50, donated the royalties from Oasis’ ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’ to victims of the terrorist attack.

He said: “He’s made it clear that a reunion is not at the top of his priorities and right now it’s not the top of mine. I would prefer it if I was in Oasis, but that’s not what the Manchester concert was about. He could have got up and done Don’t Look Back in Anger and never even had to see me. Are you telling me that if Noel Gallagher rocked up with his guitar and knocked on the door they would say, ‘You’re not invited, mate’? So he can f**k off on that one. I don’t care if he was in the Amalfi Coast or wherever, it lacked sympathy on his behalf. We have family and friends in Manchester and me mam’s still there, and it would have been nice to do it for his people. End of.”

Liam performed ‘Live Forever’ with members of Coldplay at the gig and in the past has called Chris Martin a vicar, a geography teacher and a plant pot over the years, he said the pair got on well.

Liam explained: “I did say, after we rehearsed ‘Live Forever’ in the toilets, sorry to him for that. But [Martin] said, ‘No, no, carry on, we love it!’ So I was like, ‘OK, what’s that you’re wearing?’ They know it’s in jest. We’re all different. Not everyone can be as cool as me.”

Noel Gallagher On The People Of Manchester Singing Oasis' 'Don't Look Back In Anger'

Noel Gallagher has said that the way the city of Manchester co-opted the Oasis song Don't Look Back in Anger as a rallying cry in the wake of last month's terrorist attack left him lost for words.

Gallagher was speaking before a screening of the Oasis documentary Supersonic in Glastonbury's William's Green tent at Glastonbury Festival on Friday.

The former Oasis singer, who recently turned 50, said that when a minute's silence in Manchester following the attack was interrupted by a spontaneous rendition of the song, "for the first time in my life I was f------ speechless".

The song was used as a defiant hymn following the bomb at a concert by Ariana Grande which killed 22 people, including children and young music fans.

"The fact that people spontaneously rallied round that song is an incredible thing," Gallagher said.

He added that he has no idea who the song's central character Sally is. "Who the f------ hell is Sally? I don't know anyone called Sally," he said.

Gallagher's brother Liam, with whom he has long been feuding, is playing at Glastonbury on Saturday, but Gallagher refused to comment on whether the pair might reunite at the event.

Previously, many fans expected the warring brothers to  appear together at the Manchester One Love benefit concert, organised by Grande to raise funds for the victims and held earlier this month.

Afterwards Liam, who performed at the event and sung with Coldplay's Chris Martin, criticised his brother for not attending.

Liam Gallagher: I Take Back Everything I've Said About Coldplay

After making a surprise appearance at Ariana Grande’s One Love Manchester concert, Liam Gallagher has maintained his place among the headlines by attacking brother Noel.

Notably, the ex-Oasis frontman played classic ‘Live Forever’ with Coldplay’s Chris Martin, igniting a huge singalong around Manchester’s 50,000-capacity Old Trafford.

Gallagher has previously spoken harshly about Martin, once saying he “looks like a geography teacher” and likening the singer to a “plant pot”.

However, talking about Coldplay and Martin with a Dutch radio station after playing Pinkpop Festival, Gallagher was much more positive.

“They’ve never sounded so good have they, Coldplay?” he said. “I was like, ‘F**king hell, you sound good man. I take back everything I’ve ever said about you. You sound f**king really good.'”

When asked about being linked with Coldplay into the future due to the duet, he said: “I don’t mind. Listen, man. They’re all right man. Chris is cool.”

Chris Martin Defends Noel Gallagher’s Absence From One Love Manchester Concert

The Coldplay frontman performed alongside Liam during Sunday's benefit show.

Chris Martin has defended Noel Gallagher over his absence from the One Love Manchester benefit concert, insisting that everyone knew that he wasn’t able to attend in person.

Following Liam Gallagher’s angry tweets about his brother’s no-show, the Coldplay frontman has said that Noel “gave his blessing” for him to perform in his place.

“Thank you @noelgallagher for giving your blessing and encouragement to play don't look back in anger and live forever on Sunday,” he posted on the band’s official account on Tuesday.

“Everyone knew in advance you couldn't be there physically, so thank you for being there in spirit and for lending us those incredible songs. love cm.”

Later, he added: “And thank you @liamgallagher, that was awesome x cm + jb.”

Martin performed Don’t Look Back in Anger at the concert to raise money for the victims of the May 22 terror attacks and then dueted with Liam on Live Forever.

Liam Gallagher Brings House Down With Surprise One Love Manchester Performance

The former Oasis frontman flew in straight from his show at German festival Rock im Park

Liam Gallagher brought the house down with a surprise set at One Love Manchester tonight.

The former Oasis frontman flew in straight from his appearance at German festival Rock im Park to perform at Ariana Grande's huge fundraising show at Emirates Old Trafford.

Liam opened his set with Oasis hit Rock 'n' Roll star before performing new solo single Wall Of Glass.

He was then joined on stage by Coldplay's Chris Martin for a tearjerking duet of Oasis hit Live Forever.

Chris, who is said to have persuaded Liam to come and perform at the show, was earlier accompanied by Ariana as they performed Oasis hit Don't Look Back In Anger.

The song has become an anthem of Mancunian defiance in the wake of the terror attack that killed 22 people after her concert at Manchester Arena on May 22.

The Courteeners led 50,000 fans in a mass singalong at Emirates Old Trafford last weekend - and the scene was repeated at the venue tonight as the crowds chanted along.

There had been frenzied speculation that Oasis might reunite at tonight's show after Black Eyed Peas star Taboo Nawasha tagged the band in a tweet setting out the line-up - before quickly backtracking.

Liam said he would be 'up for it' when asked if he would be performing but said it clashed with a slot at the Rock im Park festival in Germany.

The rumours were reignited earlier tonight by a tweet from The Sun's showbiz writer Dan Wootton, who said he had been told Liam would appear.

Noel Gallagher On Oasis' 'Wonderwall', Earrings, Tattoos, Leather Trousers And More

Noel Gallagher has said he does not "particularly like" Oasis song Wonderwall despite its enduring popularity and global appeal.

Gallagher penned the song, which was released in 1995 and has gone on to be remembered as a defining song of the 1990s and is considered one of the now-defunct rock band's best tracks.

The musician told Absolute Radio's Andy Bush that he always thinks the greatest song he has ever written is "the next one".

He added: "Wonderwall has become a worldwide hit, and I will get stopped all over the world, in any city you care to name, and people will sing Wonderwall.

"I don't particularly like that song - I think Cigarettes And Alcohol is a far superior song."

Gallagher said he struggles to understand why the group's second album, (What's The Story) Morning Glory? - on which Wonderwall appears - was more successful than their first record, Definitely Maybe.

"And for the life of me I still can't work out why Morning Glory would have sold 20-odd million, and Definitely Maybe only, like, five or six," he said.

Wonderwall, on which his brother and former Oasis co-star Liam sang lead vocals, has been named the greatest British song in various different radio station polls over the years.

It reached number one in several countries, including Australia, Canada and Spain, although it only peaked at number two in the UK charts, and spawned several cover versions.

Ahead of turning 50 next week, Gallagher said he is not currently going through a midlife crisis because he is "not that kind of person" and is refraining from the stereotypical signs of such a moment.

He said: "Not as yet. No earrings, no tattoos, no leather trousers.

"I'm not that kind of person, I've never owned a licence, like a driver's licence. Maybe I'd be buying a quarter million-pound motor this morning, if I had a licence and could be bothered learning to drive, or even a motorbike.

"I've never dyed my hair."

The High Flying Birds frontman said there are "no rock stars any more" in the charts, and that he thinks the music industry has become too much of a business.

"I have sat down and thought, if the rate of your share price depends on people like Bobby Gillespie, Liam and Richard Ashcroft, wouldn't you rather it rest on the reputation of Chris Martin and Ed Sheeran, d'you know what I mean?" he said.

"So, the people in the bands, the outlaws, people who came from council estates, have been marginalised now by the music business, because it's become more of a business.

"Chris is a very good friend of mine, but he is a very nice boy."

The full interview with Noel Gallagher will air on Absolute Radio at 8pm on Monday May 29.

On October 29th 2002, Noel Gallagher played an acoustic set set at the Fairplay charity gig at London's Astoria to raise money for the Make Trade Fair campaign.

Below is the NME.COM's review of the night, and a number of videos.

NOEL GALLAGHER and CHRIS MARTIN teamed up to perform a cover of Smiths' 'STOP ME IF YOU THINK YOU'VE HEARD THIS ONE BEFORE', as part of an amazing night of collaborations at the LONDON ASTORIA.

As previously reported, 'Fair Play' (October 29) was organised by Emily Eavis, the daughter of Glastonbury founder Michael. The show was intended to raise cash and awareness for Oxfam, helping to raise the profile of their Make Trade Fair campaign.

The bill featured Lamb, Idlewild, Noel Gallagher and Coldplay, who were billed as featuring 'special guests'.

After a solo set from Gallagher, which featured the likes of 'Wonderwall', 'Slide Away' and 'Married With Children', Coldplay took to the stage, and performed a handful of their own songs.

They were then joined by Ms Dynamite for a cover of  'Three Little Birds', and her own songs 'It Takes More' and 'Dy-Na-Mi-Tee'.

She was then replaced by Noel, who performed a duet of Coldplay's hit single 'Yellow', and Oasis' 'Live Forever'. During the duets, Martin appeared overcome, telling the audience that it was one of the best moments of his life. Their set also included a cover of [a]' 'Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before', a song that originally featured on the legendary Manchester group's 1987 album, 'Strangeways, Here We Come'.

Noel Gallagher And Barry Gibb Have Made Plans To Go For A Curry

Barry was shocked when the 'Don't Look Back In Anger' songwriter made a beeline for him to reveal he's a big fan of his group the Bee Gees and the pair are going to go for an Indian meal in London.

The 'Night Fever' singer told The Daily Telegraph newspaper: "Noel Gallagher told me he always listened to my music. That to me is staggering. Because in the period when Oasis became big, we were gone. That was not our time.

"We're going to go for a curry. We can talk about what it was like being in a band with brothers."

The Bee Gees were comprised of Barry and his late younger siblings Maurice and Robin, while Noel was in Oasis with his younger brother Liam Gallagher before he quit the rock group following a huge bust-up between the pair in 2009.

Following their backstage hook-up at Glastonbury, Noel, 49, took to his Instagram account to upload a picture of him and Barry together and described their meeting as the "highlight" of his weekend at Michael Eavis' annual event at Worthy Farm in England.

He captioned the image: "Just got back from Glastonbury. This was THE highlight for me. One of my favourite songwriters of all time. BG and NG. (sic)"

Barry - who has sold more than 220 million records worldwide during his career - was thrilled to be asked by Chris Martin to join Coldplay on stage for their record-breaking fourth headline slot and he was touched that the crowd knew his two songs 'To Love Somebody' and 1977 disco classic 'Stayin' Alive'.

He said: "I was a nervous wreck ... but it was nice that people knew the songs."

Liam Gallagher Slates Kanye West In New Interview

Liam Gallagher has slated Kanye West in a new interview.

Gallagher has spoken to various outlets over the past few weeks ahead of new Oasis documentary Supersonic and his forthcoming solo album.

Speaking to The Sunday Times, Gallagher weighed in on Kanye, saying that he was "not having" the star and his brand of "designer rap".

It's not the first time that Gallagher has criticised West. Last year Gallagher hit out at West's Brit Awards performance, describing it as "utter shit".

He went on to explain why the US never "got" his Britpop band: "I knew Americans weren’t going to get us. They want razzamatazz. Five lads stood there, staring you out? It’s going to be intimidating for them, the poor souls. But in England, I was the fucking man, and still do believe I am today. The thought of someone else being the main frontman in England? My hair would’ve gone grey."

Elsewhere in the Sunday Times interview, Liam called out today's young bands for failing to behave like proper rock stars. Gallagher shared his view that "any band worth their salt is not just music".

Asked whether he really means this, Gallagher said: "Without a doubt. If it's all about music, then it's Coldplay. The most rock’n’roll thing Chris Martin did was wear a leather jacket. I thought, 'Go on, lad. That's a start.'"

Encouraging today's musicians to cause more mischief, Gallagher said: "If I was a 20-year-old in a band and somebody stuck [an iPhone] in my face, I’d stick it up their arse, or mine. There is no excuse for young bands to act like grown men. When you're older and have kids, cool it out a bit, but I get up to more mischief in my butcher’s than [they] do on their fucking tours. Maybe it's just where we're from."

He added: "I guess it goes back to the working-class thing. The shit-kickers aren’t breaking through. A lot of music these days is by middle-class kids."

Speaking in another interview to promote Supersonic, Gallagher criticised brother Noel for dressing like Gary Barlow.

This week saw bookmakers slash the odds of Oasis reforming to tour in 2017, while former guitarist Bonehead said he'd 'be there like a shot' if a reunion seemed likely.

Liam Gallagher Says Coldplay Look 'Beyond S*it'

Liam Gallagher has spoken to the new issue of Q Magazine about Chris Martin and Coldplay.

He said "There's are a lot of singers out there who are one step away from the Vicar. And very few that stare at you in the eyes. They've all got something to hide. They know they've done wrong. You ever get Chris Martin to look you in the eye? I'm sure he does put on a good gig, Chris Martin, the amount of money he gets paid. He looks like he's in the Tweenies, though. The whole band looks beyond shit. Have they got any pictures of The Rolling Stones? Probably not."

The current issue is on sale now and available in stores or digitally.

Chris Martin On Oasis And Working With Noel Gallagher

Coldplay‘s Chris Martin is in awe over Beyonce and Noel Gallagher, both of whom made contributions to the British band’s forthcoming album, A Head Full of Dreams, set for release December 4. In an interview with Kevin & Bean this morning, Martin explained this is the first time the group has collaborated with famous musicians on one of their albums.

“Some of the record is about trying to make dreams come true, and humans’ ability to fix things by coming up with new ideas. And one of our dreams was to have Noel play on something because we used to love Oasis so much.” According to Martin, Gallagher doesn’t sing, but he does offer “a big guitar solo.”

When asked what went wrong with Oasis, Martin paused. “I love Oasis. I think it’s dangerous when you change the lineup of something; the magic… it always comes out different.”

“I feel bad for for them,” interjected Bean, “because they’re both very talented and I feel like Oasis was something that was so special that they can’t get out from under it. No matter how great Noel’s records are now, all anybody wants to ask him is ‘When is Oasis getting back together?'”

“I’ll give you my serious answer if you really want it,” offered Martin. “I think a band by its very nature is only as good as the chemistry between the players. None of us in rock bands, or whatever kind of bands we’re in, are virtuosos, otherwise we’d be concert pianists. So the only thing you have in your favor as a band is your unique chemistry. And if you’re lucky enough to have a great songwriter like Noel then those songs get fed into this weird arrangement of people. I feel like the great bands respect that chemistry.”

Noel Gallagher Bemoans Q Awards Design

There are some music awards that matter and others that some artists couldn't give a sh*t about.

Luckily for Noel Gallagher, his latest gong is in the latter category.

Staying true to his 'I'll say whatever I f***ing think' mantra, as soon as the star was on stage accepting the Q Award for Best Album for 'Chasing Yesterday' he was off...

Noel stated: "First of all, I've been coming here for years. They need to f***ing sort this sh*t out, these (the awards) are bobbins, rubbish I've got hundreds of these you can't put them anywhere. This would have been interesting if this was the 90s in that category, I would've been going 'You're f***ing sh*t!'

The former Oasis star, who posed up with Coldplay's Chris Martin at London's Grovesnor Hotel event, also revealed he’s already won too many awards to keep track of.

Asked how many gongs he’d won during the course of his career, Noel told BANG Showbiz: “I've got too many! I give them away, I've lost a few. I don't keep awards at home, I think it's bad for my children.

“My mam has got some stuff at her house, she's got stuff I don't even remember winning."

Meanwhile, Florence + The Machine beat Muse, Foals, The Weeknd and Miguel to win Best Video and The Libertines’ ‘Gunga Din’ was voted Best Track by readers of Q magazine.

Noel Gallagher On Jay Z's Streaming Service Tidal

Noel Gallagher has taken aim at Jay Z's streaming service Tidal. saying "I don't sell enough records for that shite."

Asked by Noisey's John Doran about his throught on the lavish launch Gallagher seemed particularly unimpressed. He took particular exception to Alicia Keys introduction at the New York launch.
"Alicia Keys is up there giving a speech, like something out of the UN," said Gallagher. "I think 'This has got to be fucking bollocks. Nonsense!' I'm not surprised nobody's been bothered with it."

It echoes Gallagher's recent comments he made to Rolling Stone regarding his concerns for the service. "I think ultimately that the spiel they came out with, it was like, "Do these people think they're the fuckin' Avengers? They're going to save the fuckin' [world]." I was speaking to Chris [Martin] the day after, and I said, "Are you after a Nobel Peace Prize? Is that what you're after?" They were like, "We're going to fuckin' save the music business." And I'm just sitting there, thinking [imitates smoking weed] you might want to write a decent chorus for a fuckin' start. Never mind fuckin' royalties and the "power of music." Write a tune. Fuckin' start with that."

Gallagher's comments come in the wake of a number of artists casting doubt on the service. Death Cab For Cutie's Ben Gibbard recently said: “I think they totally blew it by bringing out a bunch of millionaires and billionaires and propping them up onstage and then having them all complain about not being paid.” Similarly Billy Corgan cast doubt about how Tidal was marketed as beneficial for all artists. "To try and sell it as an altruistic thing is disingenuous because it's not. He is taking his slice of the pie, which he has every right to do -- he is a powerful man and he works with powerful people....To sell it as altruistic - I don't buy it." My Morning Jacket's Jim James went one step further describing it as 'elitist and weird'.

Noel Gallagher will have a spectacular summer ahead of him including summer headline spots at Latitude Festival, Calling Festival and Summer In The City. He's also would rather that people would stop ask him about the Oasis reunion everyone is expecting.
