Noel Gallagher’s Pop At Ed Miliband

Rock star Noel Gallagher has blasted Ed Miliband as "utterly uninspiring and dull".

The former Oasis guitarist also slammed the Coalition — saying nobody voted for it.

Noel became a New Labour icon when he was invited to Number 10 by the then PM Tony Blair at the height of the Cool Britannia campaign.

But appearing on BBC2's Newsnight, Noel said the only thing he knew about Mr Miliband was that he defeated his brother for the leadership.

The star added: "Every time I have seen the guy who is head of Labour speaking he is utterly uninspiring and dull."

Noel, 44, also said he has been banned from Radio 1 — for being too old. He said: "I don't really have a problem with it because the internet has made radio obsolete in a way."

Noel Gallagher On Videos, Liam, The Spin Doctors And More

Noel Gallagher has released three music videos for his first solo project Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds before the record has even hit shops. This is notable for the former Oasis songwriter, who has traditionally shied away from appearing on film and generally deferred the spotlight to his brother Liam while in that band. In the video above, you can go behind the scenes of Gallagher's video for the new single "If I Had A Gun." Rolling Stone also caught up with the rocker to chat about his favorite videos, his plans for his next solo album and the status of his legal conflict with Liam.

Do you plan on making a lot of videos for this new record?
I’ve done a lot upfront. The reason is, I met this guy out in L.A. who really likes the music – he did the video for "The Death of You and Me" – and they didn’t want me in it. And I thought, "Well that’s cool, because I fucking hate being on film anyway. And he really likes it, and I really like him, and we get on great. And you know, him and his producer are fucking brilliant – and there was talk of him doing videos for the whole album, but I’m not sure that that will come off.

Are there any videos through your career that you enjoyed being in?
Well I’ve liked being in all these three so far, because the first thing I said was, "I’m not going to do any lip-syncing and I’m not going to play the guitar, because I fucking hate that on video sets; because you play the song a whole bunch of times and you get tired by – I don’t know, the fifteenth take – and you’re just thinking, "I actually don’t fucking like this song anymore; I fucking hate it.”

Do you like videos at all? Do you watch other people’s videos?
I used to, when I was a kid, and MTV was just starting, fuck yeah, man. It was like the new fucking revolution. But now, they’re nice to watch, but they’re not as important as the record. You see some other bands, and they put a lot more thought into the video than they have into the song, do you know what I mean? And I personally would not sit down and watch a video channel all day, because it’d fucking turn my brain to cheese. But I don’t dislike the genre. I just don’t think I’m very good at it, you know what I mean? I could sit and watch VH1 in the Eighties all night. Because some of those videos are batshit, but they’re great. Remember that band, the Spin Doctors?

That’s actually the ‘90s. That’s like ’91.
Is it?

They were at our office recently; they have a 20th anniversary thing out.
Get out of here. They actually got a fucking chance to do one? Those are the videos that I fucking hate. I don’t hate them. They’re just very of their time. You know, Mister Mister, all that shit. The rock videos are crazy, you know? The Mötley Crüe ones, the fucking Poison ones and all that. They’re great because they’re just fucking nonsense. Girls, girls, girls.

How is your next record coming along with Amorphous Androgynous?
Yeah, we could put it out tomorrow. We’re just fiddling with the mixes. You know, psychedelic pop record. Not electronic. If you actually like psychedelic music, you’ll love it, you don’t, you’ll fucking hate it.

When do you expect that to be out?
In an ideal world, next summer, but I couldn’t give you a definite release date. I could have made a double album, because all of these two albums are derived from the same sessions. There were different tracks on both if you know what I mean.

Are you going to be performing any of the songs from that record in concert, when you’re out on tour?
I’m not going to do the Amorphous stuff just yet because I think people would be stunned, and they’d be thinking, "I don’t know what this is, I don’t know what it is, I don’t know what he’s going on about. He’s actually talking..." So I’ll wait till it comes out before I drop it on people.

I wanted to ask you about the situation with your brother, Liam, who is suing you for defamation. Has that all been resolved?
It hasn't gone away, and I’m not allowed to talk about it, because he gets very upset. It’s almost like he’s turned in to the indie Elton John.

Noel Gallagher: I'm Not Young Anymore - I'm Happy With A Cup Of Tea

Noel Gallagher claims his rock'n'roll ways are behind him and that's he happy with just a cup of tea these days.

The ex-Oasis guitarist, who is launching a solo career, appeared on the Christian O’Connell Breakfast Show on Absolute Radio this morning.

He claimed he could no longer write songs about being young, drinking and smoking because he was all grown up.

He said: 'Well when you start off, I was 24, your audience is 24, you’re all in the same circumstances, you’ve not yet become a rock star, so that’s when the magic happens, when you’re writing songs about their life and your life mirrors theirs and visa versa.

'Then, as you go on, you become richer and more famous and all that, and they kind of stay the same, and you lose that magical connection that you had, so you have to write about different things.'

He added: 'I couldn’t write a song, an album like Definitely Maybe now because that song’s about being 24 and cigarettes and alcohol and all that, you know.

'And you just don’t feel supersonic at 10 past 7 in the morning changing nappies.'
Christian replied: 'Until you’ve had a Yorkshire Tea.'

Noel, who recently unveiled the new video for his next single AKA...What A Life! starring close pal Russell Brand, agreed.

'You know, you just don’t, it’s as simple as that. I’m just glad it happened then, and we were part of youth culture in the 1990s, and it’s only really dawning on everybody now what a great time that was.'

The musician is making his chart comeback as Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds.
