"Supersonic" is the debut single released by British rock band Oasis, written by Noel Gallagher. It also appears on their debut album, Definitely Maybe. It was released on the 11 April 1994 and peaked at #31 on the official UK charts. It was the song performed by the band on their debut national TV performance on Channel 4's The Word, which aired on 18 March 1994. It remains to this day a favourite song of both the band and their fans (on the Definitely Maybe DVD, Noel cites it as his favourite Oasis song). The single went silver in the UK on June 30, 2006, 12 years and 3 months after its original release.

In spite of its popularity, Gallagher claims the song is basically a collection of nonsense lyrics written in a matter of minutes, just before the band entered the recording studios to record the track. The identity of the character "Elsa" caused some confusion — according to the song She done it with a doctor/On a helicopter/she sniffin' in a tissue/Sellin' the Big Issue. Noel claims, "Someone told me "Supersonic" was about teenage prostitution. Shit!". It has since been revealed that Elsa was a nine-stone rottweiler with a flatulence problem who was in the studio on the day the song was written, hence the line "she's into Alka Seltzer". It was written and recorded at The Pink Museum in Liverpool. The plan was for Oasis to record "Bring It On Down" for their debut single and another bunch of demos. However, "Supersonic" was written and it impressed everyone so much, it was chosen to be the band's first single. Gallagher has revealed in interviews that "Supersonic"'s distinctive lead guitar part wasn't a deliberate copy of the intro to George Harrison's 1971 single "My Sweet Lord". The band recorded two videos for the song, for UK and US release. The UK version of the video features the band playing on a roof, similar to The Beatles' rooftop concert.
It is included on the official music album for Euro 2004, Vive O 2004!

The song is included on Oasis' compilation album Stop the Clocks.

Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere Vol 3: The Good, The Bad And The Bubbly:
So... The dance is underway. I'm in for 2 weeks of pure mither... I shall be chased through train stations and across hotel lobbies mostly by girls shouting "Please sign, please sign!!"
Add to that the inevitable all round weirdness and bingo you got yourself a Japanese tour!
First stop Osaka. Did a Q&A with some of my fan club members...suitably awkward. Amongst other things I was asked questions about marriage, parenting, Sir David Gilmour, Sir Jeffrey Beck, pets, clothes, Oasis (obviously), the state of music in general and there might even have been some questions about my new album!!
The first of the 2 nights was very strange. I've been coming here to Japan for well over 20 yrs now and I can safely say that was the oddest gig I've EVER done. The crowd were silent in between songs. They usually are quiet but this mob were SILENT!! Not a sound...you could probably hear my heart beating I know I could! They were appreciative and all that but...
Next stop was here in Hiroshima...the gigs were most enjoyable.
I'm just about to leave and get the train to Fukuoka.
I have nothing more to say....oh it's pissing down!!
GD.

LONGY
Noel Gallagher
LONGY has written an open letter to Noel Gallagher, attacking his stance against the state of working class rock music.
Last year, the former Oasis turned solo star went on record as saying "Music is very middle class."
He continued: "My bass player summed it up, we’re constantly saying, 'Where is the next band coming from?' and he rightly says, 'Never mind the band, where are the people?' When I first started I wanted to get in the charts and wreck it, like stamp Phil Collins out and Wet Wet Wet, they've got to go, and all that '80s gear, we don't need that anymore. I don't see anything from the working class, I just don’t see it."
Sleaford Mods then went on to slam Gallagher's approach - arguing that he 'says nothing' about being working class in his music and lost his roots long ago.
Now, to launch the Gigwise premiere of the video for his scathing attack on Cameron's Britain Positively Unemployed, LONGY has written this open letter to Gallagher, calling him to take more action for other working class bands to break through the 'glass ceiling':
"Dear Noel Gallagher,
"You’ve shed some much-needed light of late on the fact that working-class British guitar music is under-represented at a commercial level, fair play, but saying it doesn’t exist just undermines the efforts of bands who are actually out here trying to break through. If I was in your position and I was pissed off about the lack of working-class talent getting through, I’d fucking do something about it instead of complaining about the fact that other people aren’t.
"I’d do my homework. Because at the moment it just looks quite a lot like a half-arsed attempt at giving a fuck in return for a few column inches promoting your new album. Why not point to the root cause? You should have read the i-D article about music becoming a hobby for the upper classes. It raised an interesting argument but only addressed one of two burning issues affecting hard-up musicians (that working for free is impossible to sustain unless you’ve got access to a healthy wodge of Daddy’s payola).
"It skipped-over the fact that most of the A&R’s, festival organisers, journalists and PRs are middle-class, which means in order for a working-class band to gain any traction, their music has to be screened by someone who has no frame of reference to anything they’re talking about. They may well enjoy jaunty tales of Stella multipacks and council estate woe, but the fact is they’d much rather work with that new dream-pop band whose bassist used to go to The Oratory or wherever.
"As someone who broke through the glass ceiling (at a time when it was still possible), wouldn’t it now be an idea to highlight the burgeoning talent pool of young, hungry musicians that never get any exposure? Ain’t it time you stepped up and created the platform for bands that the current framework has quite clearly robbed them of?
"Yours Sincerely,
"LONGY"
